In 9 hours of photo time, 59 groups visited us, 400 exposures taken and 103 treat bags were handed out!!&nbsp; And…..over 100 pumpkins and gourds were picked and brought to the studio for the fall backdrops. 

Steph's Studio would like to thank the community for their donations above and beyond what was requested!

A donation of $1,213 was given to the group to purchase toys for the upcoming Christmas party December 15, from 4-6 for families with invitations, at the Eagles Club in Alliance for Santa's Helpers.

Family invitations have been mailed out and Sata's Helpers would like to remind families to return their postcard ASAP.

The Water Department will only access properties during the business hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Employees will be wearing some form of high-visibility clothing and will be accompanied by a City vehicle.

CHADRON – Comedian Larry the Cable Guy will perform in Chadron March 2, 2025, at the conclusion of a six-week tour called Larry’s Nebraska Road Trip. The tour will offer fans live comedy, all-new material, and include special guest Nick Hoff. Proceeds after production costs will be donated to the CSC Theatre department.&nbsp;

The performance will be in Memorial Hall at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50 each and will go on sale to the general public on Nov. 22 at&nbsp;<a href="https://chadronstate.hometownticketing.com/embed/all" target="_blank">https://chadronstate.hometownticketing.com/embed/all</a>.&nbsp;Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Athletic Offices in the Chicoine Center during normal business hours.

North Platte, Neb. –&nbsp;Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol arrested four people this weekend after finding more over 30 pounds of cocaine and nearly 30 pounds of marijuana in separate traffic stops.

Saturday at approximately 8:45 a.m. CT, a trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2023 Acura MDX for improper passing. During the stop, the trooper became suspicious of criminal activity. A search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 33 pounds of cocaine in a hidden compartment.

The driver, Raquel Rocha, 34, and the passenger, Jonathan Cardenas, 45, both of New Jersey, were arrested on charges of possession of cocaine, possession with intent to deliver, and child abuse without injury. Both were taken to the Hamilton County Jail. The child in the vehicle was placed in protective care.

At approximately 11:04 p.m. MT Saturday, a trooper preformed a traffic stop on a Jeep Compass for a speeding violation. During the traffic stop, the trooper detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle revealed 29 pounds of marijuana located in a large black duffle bag. The driver, Anthony Lewis, 27, of Lincoln, and the passenger, Demitrius De Shun, 31, of Lincoln, was arrested for was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of marijuana (more than one pound). Both individuals were lodged in Keith County Jail.

CHADRON – Angelyse Perez of Newcastle, Wyoming, is Chadron State College’s Project Strive/TRiO Student of the Month for November.

Perez, a junior, is majoring in art studio.

“I really enjoy art. It is something that brings me a lot of joy and I’ve done it for such a long time. It gives me a way to communicate who I am,” Perez said

Perez, who has been involved in Project Strive for about two years, is the treasurer and social media coordinator for the United Club, participates in the Art Guild, and occasionally works with the Campus Activity Board, Sigma Tau Delta, and Tenth Street Miscellany by making posters and social media flyers. Perez has helped with two activities sponsored by the United Club, The Clothesline Project and the Trans Visibility event.

“Angel has been a great member of the Project Strive family. She is quick to help others in the program and give them guidance and support. These are just a couple of the many values that make Angel a great student and person. Her passion for art and photography will take her far in life,” said Project Strive Director Jennifer Schaer.

Perez learned about CSC through a friend and decided to tour campus, even though her original plans were to attend college in Oregon.

“I like the atmosphere, it’s small and quaint. I enjoyed the professors when they showed me around the art department. I also come from a small town. I was afraid that if I went to a big school, I might experience some major whiplash,” Perez said.

Perez has always had an interest in art. She practices both digital and traditional art and enjoys surrounding herself with other artists, students, and professors, as they have impacted the way she views art.

While at Chadron State, Perez has enjoyed taking classes from faculty members Mary Donahue, Laura Bentz, and Trudy Denham, and writing classes taught by Markus Jones.

“Angel Perez is a bright and creative student whose intellect and imagination shine in everything she does. She has an extraordinary ability to notice the nuances of the world around her, transforming these observations into powerful stories and insightful class discussions,” Jones said.

Jones said Perez is a deeply curious and studious individual.

“Angel seamlessly blends creativity with analytical thinking, producing remarkable class responses and impressive projects that reflect her originality and dedication. Her unique writing voice and sharp intellect make her work a joy to read,” Jones said.

Some of Perez’s favorite classes have been Painting I (ART 232) and II (ART 332) with Bentz and Ceramics II (ART 428) with Denham.

“I had only worked with oil painting for a brief moment in high school, so I was excited to be able to explore that a little more in Painting I. It’s a beginner class so she lets us start where we are at and then builds on it. Painting II allowed for more experimentation. In this class, painting was not only used as a way of communicating, but we also mixed media into it. Ceramics can be irritating sometimes, but it can also be relaxing and calming. Plus, I enjoy Trudy as a teacher,” Perez said.

Bentz said Perez, as a first-generation student, has fearlessly faced the challenges of college.

“She is curious about the world and has taken a broad range of classes outside her Art major. All of those classes feed her creativity and inform the images she creates,” Bentz said.

When not working&nbsp;<a>on</a>&nbsp;assignments, Perez enjoys hanging out with friends, doing personal art projects, playing video games, writing stories and poetry, and practicing photography.

Perez plans to graduate in December 2025, but is unsure what her future holds.

“I hope to work in an art museum or art-related field. Maybe a studio,” Perez said.

Chadron State College’s Project Strive/TRiO program, located in the lower level of the King Library, is an academic enrichment program committed to help students succeed. United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Tyler Denby, age 39, formerly of Alliance, Nebraska, was sentenced on November 21, 2024, in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska for one count of transportation of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis sentenced Denby to 262 months’ imprisonment.&nbsp; There is no parole in the federal system.&nbsp; After Denby’s release from prison, he will begin a 10-year term of supervised release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.

On July 30th&nbsp;of 2021, Alliance Police Department received two separate calls for assistance concerning an individual threatening others in the Alliance area. Denby, who was then a Montana resident visiting the town of Alliance, was identified as the suspect, and was contacted at a local gas station.&nbsp; During the encounter, responding officers gained probable cause to search Denby’s vehicle when a marijuana pipe was spotted in his pocket. A stolen firearm was then located on Denby’s person. During the search of his vehicle, a large number of electronic devices, and a pillowcase filled with stained children’s underwear, were discovered by the searching law enforcement officers with the Alliance Police Department and Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office. The items were seized from the vehicle and Denby was arrested for several state crimes.

A search warrant was received for the numerous electronic devices. The devices were later reviewed by the Alliance Police Department. Three microSD cards which had been located in Denby’s wallet contained a substantial amount of child pornography files. While Denby was in custody, he was interviewed by law enforcement, and he admitted to having child pornography on those devices.&nbsp; He also admitted to travelling from Montana to Nebraska with the child pornography on his devices.

The case proceeded to a jury trial in August of 2024, and Denby was convicted of possessing and transporting child pornography.

In pronouncing Denby’s sentence, Judge Bazis told him “There is no question in my mind you are a danger to the public and to children.” Stressing the need of a sentence to protect the public, the Judge also commented “I don’t think you think you did anything.”&nbsp;

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and CEOS, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. Former Alliance man sentenced to nearly 22 years for child pornography charges

Scottsbluff, Neb.&nbsp; — Investigators with the Nebraska State Patrol, Scottsbluff Police Department, Gering Police Department, and Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office conducted alcohol compliance checks in Scotts Bluff County last weekend.

In total, 83 businesses were checked. One of the businesses sold alcohol to a minor. The checks throughout the county had a 99% compliance rate.

Businesses that sell alcohol to a minor are referred to the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission. Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor are cited for procuring alcohol for a minor.

This effort was made possible thanks to funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Division of Behavioral Health.

Alcohol Compliance Checks Held in Scotts Bluff County

Early this morning, the Alliance Police Department received a tip that a runaway juvenile from Lawrence, KS may be in Alliance. Kuel Karbino Kuel, M/B 16 years old, had been missing since October 18 th .

 Throughout the morning our communications center received several calls from citizens stating that they had spotted the juvenile, however, he continued to elude officers. 

At approximately 12:30pm, officers received another call that the juvenile was in the area of 1 st St walking east toward Yellowstone. The clothing description was aired to all units and officers converged on the area. Officer Dahlberg spotted the juvenile who fled on foot. 

After a brief foot chase, Officer Dahlberg was able to apprehend the juvenile and detain him to check his welfare and confirm his identity. The juvenile will also have local charges for marijuana possession.

 Arrangements are underway for an interstate transfer to have the juvenile transported back to Kansas. 

This is another great example of the exemplary work done by our officers here in Alliance!

APD apprehend runaway juvenile; charges underway for marijuana 

OMAHA, Neb.&nbsp;–&nbsp;The Omaha Supernovas,&nbsp;Nebraska’s professional volleyball team and first Pro Volleyball Champions, are thrilled to announce its six-person 2024 draft class, which was selected during the 2024 PVF Draft earlier on Monday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Supernovas second full draft class includes middle blocker&nbsp;Toyosi Onabanjo&nbsp;from Kansas, opposite&nbsp;Emily Londot&nbsp;from Ohio State, outside hitter&nbsp;Ally Batenhorst&nbsp;from USC, outside hitter&nbsp;Lindsay Krause&nbsp;from Nebraska, outside hitter&nbsp;Valeria Vazquez-Gomez&nbsp;from Pittsburgh and setter&nbsp;Kendra Wait&nbsp;from Creighton.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Today is a phenomenal day for our sport and an opportunity to celebrate the incredible success of these athletes,"&nbsp;Supernovas head coach Laura "Bird" Kuhn&nbsp;said. "We’re thrilled with the depth we’ve added on both pins and excited to see the young talent grow and develop in our gym. Last season taught us the importance of depth and competitive chemistry, and this group will play a key role in strengthening our 2025 Supernovas squad!"

Omaha bolstered its middle blocker group with its first selection at No. 8 overall with Onabanjo for the final pick of the first round. &nbsp;

Onabanjo spent her first two seasons at Iowa before transferring to Kansas ahead of the 2023 season. She put up 1.82 kills per set with 101 total blocks during her junior season, but it’s her senior campaign that has made her into one of the top middle blockers in the country. The Houston, Texas native is averaging 2.58 kills per set this season on a .408 hitting percentage with 101 blocks (1.2 B/S). She’s put up double-digit kills in nine matches this season including a season-high 22 kills in a match at Duke earlier in the year. &nbsp;

The Supernovas followed up with Londot two picks later for the second selection of the second round at No. 10 overall, which was a draft pick Omaha acquired last season in a trade with the San Diego Mojo.&nbsp;

Londot comes to Omaha after being one of the best offensive players in college volleyball since she won the AVCA National Freshman of the Year award in 2020. Named a second team All-American in 2020 and 2022, Londot has a career 4.22 kills per set mark in over 140 career matches. &nbsp;

She’s continued that stellar play during her fifth and final college season in 2024, posting a 4.41 kills per set mark. She’s also improved her blocking during her final college season, posting 102 blocks (0.88 B/S) with 30 aces. A three-time All-Big Ten first team selection, Londot entered the 2024 season top five in program history in kills and points while being in the top 20 in block assists, total blocks and digs. &nbsp;

The Supernovas picked again in the second round at No. 15 overall, drafting USC outside hitter Ally Batenhorst, who returns to the Cornhusker state after spending her first three college seasons at Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Batenhorst has excelled in her first season as a full-time starting outside hitter, averaging 3.82 kills per set to lead the team on a .228 hitting percentage with 2.09 digs per set, 86 blocks and 26 aces. The former Husker spent three seasons in Lincoln appearing in at least 26 matches during each year. Her best season came in 2022 as a sophomore where she recorded 2.33 kills per set, 1.06 digs per set and 0.57 blocks per set in 72 sets across 26 matches. &nbsp;

The Supernovas continued its Nebraska trend by drafting NU outside hitter Lindsay Krause at No. 19 overall in the third round. &nbsp;

A 6-foot-4 senior for Nebraska, Krause will return to her hometown when she joins the Supernovas after coming out of Omaha Skutt High School as the No. 1 overall recruit in the country. Krause has played in 99 career matches for Nebraska, recording 2.36 kills per set with 185 total blocks and 24 aces, with 15 of them coming this year. &nbsp;

“Being a drafted as a Supernova means the world to me,” Krause said. “I am so beyond grateful to get the opportunity to continue to represent and compete for my home state of Nebraska. The rich culture this team Coach Bird has already created in just one season is something I cannot wait to be a part of! GBR forever, and go Novas!”&nbsp;

11 picks later the Supernovas selected Pittsburgh outside hitter Valeria Vazquez-Gomez in the fourth round at No. 30 overall.&nbsp;

Vazquez-Gomez has helped Pittsburgh to its first two Final Four appearances in program history, with the Panthers amidst another great season in which they could reach a third consecutive Final Four.&nbsp;Vazquez-Gomez is a complete six-rotation outside hitter. She’s already matched her career high in aces (34) this season while adding 2.15 kills and 1.98 digs per set with 28 blocks. &nbsp;

The Puerto Rico native has racked up numerous accolades including an AVCA Second Team All-American honor and All-ACC Firrst Team selection in 2022. She was also named to the All-ACC Second Team in 2023 after hitting a career high .258 on the year. &nbsp;

Omaha rounded out its draft class in the fifth round at No. 37 overall with the selection of&nbsp;Wait.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Wait will go down as one of the greatest players in Creighton Volleyball history and has become one of the best setters in the country. A three-time AVCA All-American honree, Wait has a career 10.74 assists per set mark in over 125 matches with 3.19 digs per set, 476 kills, 343 blocks and 83 aces. &nbsp;

She’s in the middle of another phenomeal season for a top-ten Creighton team with 10.99 assists and 2.98 digs per set with 91 kills, 87 blocks and 21 aces. &nbsp;

2024 Western Conference All Conference Softball Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Led by first-team nods for two members of the Eagle defense, Chadron State football was well represented on the 2024 RMAC Football All-Conference Teams, announced Wednesday by the league office. 

Senior defensive end Hunter O'Connor and junior safety Dax Yeradi both earned spots on the first team, with O'Connor receiving a first-team selection for the third consecutive season while Yeradi earned first-team status for the first time in his career.

Chadron State had three second team picks in wide receiver Tommy Thomas, linebacker Xavier Harrell and punter Brodie Eisenbraun. 

The Eagles had eight players earn all-conference honorable mention – cornerback Omar Ali, offensive lineman Nicholas Gossage, tight end Peter Krohn, linebacker Logan O'Brien, safety Tucker Peterson, defensive tackle Tanner True, kicker Wilson Yee and Yeradi, who in addition to his first-team defensive selection picked up an honorable mention nod as a punt returner. 

The All-RMAC teams are voted on by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players. Any student-athlete not named first or second team that receives at least one first team vote or two second team votes is considered honorable mention.

Hunter O'Connor, a senior from Broomfield, Colorado, put a cap on a decorated career with a third straight First Team All-RMAC selection. The 2022 All-American finished 2024 with 7.5 sacks, 12.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and 49 total tackles while being the focus of every defensive gameplan. O'Connor had three games with multiple sacks, with two of them coming against nationally-ranked opponents in Colorado School of Mines and Western Colorado.

On November 9 against Western Colorado, O'Connor recorded two sacks to become Chadron State's all-time program leader with 35.5 career sacks. O'Connor already held the program sack records for a single season (16) and a single game (five), both set in 2022. 

Dax Yeradi had a breakout campaign in 2024, vaulting from an honorable mention selection in 2023 to the first team. The safety from Wright, Wyoming finished the season tied for the RMAC lead with four interceptions, including a 51-yard pick six against Fort Lewis. 

Yeradi also finished with 51 tackles, including 40 solo stops, and recorded four pass breakups. He earned the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week award on September 23 of this year. As a punt returner, he ranked second in the RMAC in 17th in Division II by averaging 11.5 yards per return, with a high of 103 return yards on six attempts against Adams State. 

Both O'Connor and Yeradi were defensive leaders for an Eagle team that finished second-best in the RMAC in most defensive categories, including total yards allowed, passing yards allowed and interceptions while ranking third in scoring defense.

Tommy Thomas followed up a First Team All-RMAC season in 2023 by still earning second team honors during an injury-shortened 2024. Despite missing three games, the junior hauled in 36 receptions with 419 yards and four touchdowns, all marks which led CSC for the season. Thomas starred during the rivalry game against Black Hills State, catching 11 passes for 146 yards. 

Xavier Harrell lands on the second team after captaining the linebacking corps for the Eagles defense. Harrell finished with 66 tackles and ranked eighth in the RMAC with 42 solo tackles. The senior added 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, an interception and four pass breakups. Harrell earns a second team selection a year after being named honorable mention in 2023. 

Brodie Eisenbraun earns a second-team selection at punter for the second straight season, but after sharing second-team honors with two other punters due to a tie in voting a season ago, Eisenbraun has it all to himself this year. The junior averaged 43.26 yards on 53 punts, hitting 15 punts for 50 yards or more. Eisenbraun pinned 17 punts inside the 20-yard line against just three touchbacks. 

CSU Pueblo receiver Reggie Retzlaff took home Offensive Player of the Year honors, Western Colorado defensive end Ricky Freymond was the conference's Defensive Player of the Year while Colorado School of Mines punter Blake Doud was the Special Teams Player of the Year. Western Colorado's Jas Bains took home RMAC Coach of the Year.

C1-7 All District Football Teams Announced (2024)

BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings used a 22-6 margin at the free throw line as the springboard to a 77-60 win over Chadron State in a nonconference women's basketball game played in Billings on Friday night. 

Chadron State senior forward Ashayla Powers led all scorers with 24 points. She made all nine of her field goal shots in the first half, finished 11-of-17 from the field for the game and sank both of her free throws.  She also was the Eagles' top rebounder with six. 

Montana State Billings led by just two points, 32-30, at halftime but outscored the Eagles 45-30 in the second half. Kylie Krise added nine points and Camren Morris and McKenzie Petersen six apiece for the Eagles, now 0-2 for the young season. The Yellowjackets, ranked No. 6 nationally in the WBCA Coaches Poll, improved their record to 5-1.

Powers got off to a great start early for the Eagles, scoring 10 points in the opening quarter on 5-for-5 shooting then adding eight points in the second quarter to have 18 at the break. In the first half, Powers was 9-for-9 from the field while the rest of the Eagles were a combined 5-for-14.

A senior named All-RMAC First Team in 2022-23 and Second Team in 2023-24, Powers has now gone over 20 points for the first time this season after doing so twice last year and nine times two years ago. The 11 field goals made in a single game are tied for the second most in Powers' career.

Montana State was 6-of-12 and the Eagles 1-of-3 at the line in the first half. The hosts were 16-of-22 and Chadron State 5-of-5 at the charity stripe in the second half to account for much of the difference on the scoreboard. Each team finished with 25 field goals, with the hosts making five 3-pointers, one more than the Eagles.

Aspen Giese, a 5-8 senior, led Montana State with 19 points, followed by Dyauni Boyce and Kaitlin Grossman with 13 apiece.  Kortney Nelson was 7-of-9 at the free throw line, finishing with nine points and a game-high eight rebounds. The Yellowjackets out-rebounded Chadron State 36-24 and had 14 turnovers, compared to CSC's 22.

The Eagles will play Simon Fraser of Canada in Billings, starting at noon Saturday. They'll be home at 6 p.m. Wednesday night to play Southwest Minnesota State in the Chicoine Center.
