The Nebraska State Patrol is currently investigating a death of an inmate at the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center.
Scotts Bluff County Attorney Dave Eubanks said in Monday press release that an adult male inmate was found unresponsive on Friday at about 6:30 p.m. at the Detention Center.
Officers performed CPR and used an AED in attempts to revive the male, who was transported to Regional West Medical Center by Valley Ambulance.
Medical staff declared the male dead at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
Eubanks says that because this was an in-custody death, Nebraska law requires a grand jury investigation.
An autopsy took place Monday morning, and the investigation is ongoing.
It is reported that the man was alone in a cell at the time of this occurrence. At this time, authorities say there is no sign of foul play or self-harm.
The man’s identity is withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
