'Fighting for Foster Care' concert to be held at Sandhills Drive-In 

SIDNEY — Sidney Fire and Police are on a mission to help save lives by collecting blood for hospital patients in need during the Battle of the Badges blood drive.

Battle of the Badges is a friendly competition to see who can recruit the most eligible blood donors to join them in this lifesaving effort. The community is encouraged give blood on Thursday, June 3, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Free t-shirts are available for all presenting donors, while supplies last!

The need for blood is constant. Joining first responders to donate at this special event can help ensure blood is on the shelves before it is needed.

The American Red Cross is testing all blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies, providing donors insight into whether they have been exposed to this coronavirus. COVID-19 antibody test results will be available within 7-10 days in the Red Cross Blood Donor App or donor portal at RedCrossBlood.org.

Nebraska Extension and Nebraska Beef Quality Assurance will be offering Beef Quality Assurance Certification.

Jesse Fulton, Director of Nebraska Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) will be presenting the latest on the Nebraska BQA program and certifying producers in BQA and BQA Transportation (BQAT). The BQA program educates beef producers on animal health best management practices, proper stockmanship, and proper animal welfare guidelines. Beef cattle producers, who are committed to producing a quality, wholesome and safe beef product for consumers, are encouraged to attend to stay up to date on BQA practices.

All producers are invited to attend. BQA certification is valid for three years. If your last BQA training occurred prior to 2018, your BQA certification could be expired. Beef producers are encouraged to attend to keep their BQA certification current. The BQA certification fee for these events is waived for those wanting to become BQA certified/recertified.

A meal sponsored by Multimin will be served for producers who attend the Chadron BQA training. Producers who plan to attend the Chadron meeting need to RSVP by May 27th.

Alliance – Have you been wanting to do something interesting after being cooped up for a year? Well her it is! The Knight Museum &amp; Sandhills Center staff and volunteers will be hosting a “Grave Witching” program and demonstration on Friday, May 28 at 2 p.m. at the Alliance Cemetery. 

Grave Witching, also known as Grave Dowsing, is a process to determine if a grave has someone buried in it or not, along with other fascinating information. Staff and volunteers will be showing the process, teaching you how, and answering other cemetery questions until 4 p.m. 

This is a fascinating procedure, similar to divining water that is very helpful and intriguing.

The Staff will also be at the Alliance Cemetery Saturday, Sunday and Memorial Day to help patrons in locating graves.
