As per the winter storm warning, a Snow Emergency has been declared for the City of Crawford from 12:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, once accumulations reach 3 inches, through 5:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.

 In reference to City Ordinances, a snow emergency means that motor vehicles, boats, trailers etc. CANNOT be parked on the street during the indicated time period along the emergency snow routes. 

Vehicles, trailers or obstructions remaining on the routes may be ticketed or towed at the owner’s expense. 

Efforts will be made to not tow vehicles during normal business hours, unless the predominate weather dictates such actions.

Box Butte Co. to hold 'Celebrate 4-H FUNdraiser'

Alliance- United Way of Western Nebraska serving Box Butte and Dawes Counties surpassed their 2020-2021 campaign goal of $90,000 by raising $93,605 exceeding the campaign goal. &nbsp;

$84,633.56 was raised in Box Butte County and $8,972.04 was raised in Dawes County. &nbsp;Funds are raised annually through individual donations, corporate donations and United Way special events.&nbsp;

United Way Director Karen Benzel highlighted how important the community is in raising funds for United Way. She noted, “We are grateful for the generous community support and helping United Way raise over $90,000 for the community. When we were setting the goal for the upcoming campaign we had no idea what to expect. Businesses and schools had been shut down, it was very difficult to set a fundraising goal as we wanted to be cognizant of the current environment due to the pandemic, but we recognized that the ongoing needs of our partners still existed and in many ways their funding needs increased due to the pandemic. We were conscientious all year long and encouraged the community to give what they could and the amazing support we received demonstrates the wonderful community we live in. Whether you participated in one of our events this past summer, donated&nbsp;through payroll deduction, on our site or via one of our promotions, we want to thank you!&nbsp;We were able to raise $93,605 for the community during a pandemic and we are appreciative of every donation to support United Way.”

Funds raised are used to support United Way community impact initiatives and local non-profits partner agencies in Box Butte and Dawes Counties.&nbsp; United Way partner agencies apply for funding each year and funding is open to non-profits that focus on financial stability, education and better health.&nbsp; Funds available are based on the amount raised in each county as Box Butte County funds are utilized for Box Butte County agencies and Dawes County funds raised are used to support Dawes County agencies.&nbsp; Last year, ten non-profits in Box Butte County and three in Dawes County received funds from United Way.&nbsp; Non-profit agencies like East Point Horspice, CAPstone, The Doves Program and Community Table rely on United Way for support.&nbsp; Current community impact initiatives include the Community Cares Food Box Program, Stuff the Bus, Imagination Library and the Box Butte County Thanksgiving and Christmas food boxes. &nbsp;

The deadline for entering the annual Stars of Tomorrow contest sponsored by the Chadron Kiwanis Club is Monday, March 8. 

The contest will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 14 in the Chadron High School Auditorium.

There will be four divisions: Division I, students in kindergarten through the third grades; Division II, fourth through sixth grades; Division III, seventh through ninth grades; and Division IV, 10th through 12th grades.

The first place winner in division IV will receive $150.00 scholarship and the right to represent the Chadron Kiwanis Club at the district contest later this spring.

The top three place winners in each division will be awarded tropies.

There is no entry fee. The acts should last no more than about 6 minutes. Both soloists and small groups may compete.

Alliance – Story Time resumes in March on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and Thursdays at 1 p.m. for children ages 3-6 years at the Alliance Public Library.&nbsp;

 Our featured themes: Dynamic Dr. Seuss (March 2 and 4), Nebraska, Our Home (March 9 and 11), St. Patrick’s Day (March 16 and 18) and Music Maestros (March 23 and 25) with several books to share, rhythm music, birthdays and crafts. 

We also have Story Time Read-a-long videos produced by Alliance Public Library staff, available on our website at <a href="https://libraries.ne.gov/alliance/services/childrenandyouth/story-time-read-a-long/">https://libraries.ne.gov/alliance/services/childrenandyouth/story-time-read-a-long/</a> -- our website and Facebook page contain a wealth of knowledge with available resources, programs, contests and more!

March 1-17 during library hours will be a Search for Lucky Dog with children through second grade.

 When they find Lucky and bring him to the Circulation Desk, they will receive a prize.

 Children through third grade can participate in “Read Across America” featuring our Dr. Seuss collection which continues through March 31 with reading and coloring contests. 

Grades 4-8 can participate in “Read Your Way Across the USA” which they can begin and finish at any time. 

“Youth Art Month” will be celebrated for youth through age 17 by reading any YA book, then creating an art/craft project based upon the book or writing their thoughts about the book with at least 250 words.

 Those who participate in “Youth Art Month” at the library will have their name entered in a drawing for one $50 gift certificate to Steph’s Studio.

 The library is also hosting a “Winter Blues” contest for adult patrons. 

If a patron checks out a book with the word “Blue” in the title, they can sign up to win a $15 Starbucks gift card. 

The contest runs February 16th- March 12th, with a drawing every Friday at 3:00 p.m. 

We have a display table of books with the word “Blue” in the title to make the selection easier. 

For these contests, books need to be checked out from the Alliance Public Library.

In this week's annual Eagle Radio sales conference, longtime on-air personality Jason Wentworth was honored with the 100/0 Individual Performance Award.

The award is given to an employee-owner who represents the 100/0 principle of taking 100 percent responsibility for themselves and the company and having zero excuses for not giving their best.

Jason Wentworth has been an asset to Eagle since he packed up his life and moved over 20 years ago to Alliance, Neb," said Olivia Hasenauer, Eagle's regional manager in Nebraska. "Jason gets up religiously every day before the sun comes up to do a live morning show and he loves what he’s doing. The Alliance Christian Ministerial Association&nbsp;Lenten Lunch 2021 Schedule has been announced.&nbsp;

-February 25,&nbsp; Alliance Berean Church, Rev. Glenn Johnson

-March 4, Holy Rosary Catholic Church,&nbsp; Father Tim Stoner

-March 11, First Baptist Church,&nbsp; Rev. Gary Belk

-March 18,&nbsp; United Methodist Church, Rev. Gideon Achi, Ph.D.

-March 25, St. John’s Lutheran (ELCA),&nbsp; Pastor Tim Stadem

· All food will be served restaurant (plated and served) or cafeteria style.

· Masks must be worn unless you are seated at your table.

· Please do not attend if you are feeling ill.
