Nate Rau is set to begin teaching a hunter/bowhunter education class at the Crawford Fire Station from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on August 22 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on August 23 and 24.

A Combination Course will provide instruction from knowledgeable and dedicated volunteer instructors in the safe use of firearm and archery equipment, fundamentals of hunting, shooting and hunting techniques, game identification, conservation management as well as hunter ethics.

Students&nbsp;11 years of age and older&nbsp;on the examination day will be able to take the test and complete the course and may be issued certificates of successful completion of both Firearm and Bowhunter Education.&nbsp;

The City of Scottsbluff would like to notify the public of an upcoming closure of both lanes on East 42nd street between 5th Ave and Hilltop Estate PL. The closure will start on Monday, July 28th and last approximately one week.

The closure is needed as contractors will be installing a new sanitary sewer main. This is part of a project extending the city’s sanitary sewer main from Hilltop Estate PL to the cemetery. Please plan travels accordingly and be mindful of construction work.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced hay harvesting permit applications for the public will be accepted through an online application portal beginning July 30 at 12:01 a.m. CST. Individuals must have a permit to harvest hay on State Right of Way.

Hay harvesting permits can be purchased online from July 30 until the permits expire on September 15, on a first-come, first-served basis. Each permit is limited to five miles of roadside hay, and only one permit is allowed per person. The hay is for private use only. All baled vegetation shall be removed from the right-of-way within 10 days after being baled or by September 15, whichever comes first. Applications will be processed in the order they are received during normal business hours beginning July 30.

Customers and staff can utilize an integrated online map to assist in selecting miles to mow. The map will be routinely updated showing miles available for permits.

Landowners are given the opportunity to renew last year’s permits between March 1 and July 29.

The tables are based on data gathered and calculations made by Gary Stone, Nebraska Extension educator, and Dr. Xin Qiao, Extension Irrigation and Water Management Specialist, both based at the UNL Panhandle Research and Extension Center in Scottsbluff.

Crop water use will vary across the noted areas due to variations in ET, crop growth stage, temperature, soil type, wind, and precipitation events. Crop water use will assist growers with irrigation scheduling and efficient water application and use.
