The Hemingford Bobcats are hoping to get some big wins in their basketball doubleheader tonight, As Hemingford girls (0-3) hosts 3-2 Hay Springs.

&nbsp; On the boy's side, the Bobcats have lost two straight games to fall to 1-2 and hosts a Hot Springs team that is undefeated at 3-0 after a home win against Alliance on Saturday.

In other local doubleheaders Hyannis is at Gordon-Rushville, Crawford at Minatare, and Pinebluffs and Bridgeport.

In local high school wrestling, Alliance travels to Scottsbluff for a boys and girls dual at 5 pm.

Nebraska had a total of 103 student-athletes earn Fall Academic All-Big Ten recognition as announced by the Conference Office on Monday.

The group of Husker student-athletes includes 50 football players, 22 soccer student-athletes, 16 women’s cross country athletes, eight volleyball student-athletes and seven members of the men’s cross country team.

The Husker honorees included three student-athletes who earned a 4.0 grade-point average for the academic year, including&nbsp;Alea Hardie, a cross country runner from Sioux Falls, S.D.,&nbsp;McKenna Lovehaug, a cross country student-athlete from Fargo, N.D., and&nbsp;Abby Vacek, a soccer player from Lincoln.

The 50 football honorees were led by seven players who earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for a fourth time. That group includes offensive tackle&nbsp;Bryce Benhart, tight end&nbsp;John Goodwin, linebacker&nbsp;Nick Henrich, defensive lineman&nbsp;Jacob Herbek, offensive lineman&nbsp;Ethan Piper, linebacker&nbsp;Luke Reimer&nbsp;and linebacker&nbsp;Garrett Snodgrass.&nbsp;A total of 11 football student-athletes made the academic list for the third time in their career.

Soccer student-athlete&nbsp;Marissa Popoola&nbsp;earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition for the fourth year, while teammates&nbsp;Audra Clark, Eleanor Dale, Gwen Lane&nbsp;and&nbsp;Reagan Raabe&nbsp;were recognized for the third time.

After dropping their first two games of the season, the Alliance girl's basketball team earned a big bounce back win on Saturday evening, using tough defense to win 53-26.

Alliance hopes to continue the defensive effort on Tuesday when they host 0-3 Torrington, with radio coverage on KCOW and kcowradio.com.

On the Boys side, Alliance had a tough weekend as they fell to both North Platte and Hot Springs, and are h0ping to snap their 0-3 start to the season as they host 0-3 Torrington WY.

Alliance girls basketball gets first win of season at Hot Springs

LINCOLN, Neb. -&nbsp;The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team advanced to the NCAA Semifinals with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over third-seeded Arkansas Saturday evening in front of 8,713 fans at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Nebraska erased a late five-point deficit to rally and win set one, 26-24. The Huskers then cruised to a 25-14 victory in set two but Arkansas (28-6) battled over the next two sets. The Razorbacks won set three, 25-21, handing the Huskers their first set loss of the NCAA Tournament. Arkansas then led 19-17 in set four before NU rallied for a 25-23 victory.

Nebraska (32-1) will head to the NCAA Semifinals for the 17th time in program history and the sixth time in the last nine years. The Huskers will face No. 4 Pittsburgh on Thursday at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. A match time has not yet been announced.

The Huskers, who finished 21-0 at home this season, hit just .194 in the match, but Nebraska held Arkansas to a .100 attack percentage. The Huskers had the advantage in kills (57-47), blocks (17-9) and digs (78-62), but the Razorbacks served up eight aces while Nebraska's lone ace came on the first point of the match.

Merritt Beason, the NCAA Lincoln Regional Most Outstanding Player, finished with a match-high 19 kills. She recorded a double-double by adding 11 digs and nearly posted a triple-double after finishing with eight blocks, tying her career high. Harper Murray had 15 kills and 12 digs for the Big Red. Bergen Reilly also had a double-double with 40 assists and 16 digs.

Defensively, Bekka Allick had a career-high 12 blocks. Her 12 stuffs were the most ever by a Husker in an NCAA Tournament match during the rally-scoring era and were just one shy of the program record for any postseason match. Lexi Rodriguez had a match-high 20 digs to lead the Nebraska floor defense, as five Huskers finished with double-digit digs.

Reilly and Rodriguez joined Beason on the Lincoln Regional All-Tournament team.

Three Razorbacks finished with double-digit kills, led by 14 from Jillian Gillen.

Set 1:&nbsp;Arkansas went up 6-3 after three straight kills. The Razorbacks led 12-6 after a kill and ace by Gillen on back-to-back rallies. Murray and Beason posted back-to-back kills, and Beason and Allick combined for a block as the Huskers pulled within 12-10 after a 4-0 run. Arkansas answered with three points in a row and held a 16-11 lead before a kill by Batenhorst and Arkansas hitting error made it 16-13. However, the Razorbacks restored their five-point lead at 18-13. Back-to-back kills by Jackson brought NU back within three, 19-16, but once again Arkansas had an answer with a kill and block by Gillen to go up 21-16. Murray posted a sideout kill, which brought Kennedi Orr in to serve. From there, Murray terminated again and then added a block with Allick. A hitting error by Arkansas cut its lead to one, 21-20, after the Huskers' 4-0 run. The Razorbacks led 23-21 when a service error and block by Allick and Beason tied the score at 23-23. Beason terminated a kill for the Huskers' first lead since 2-1 and set point, 24-23. An Arkansas kill tied it 24-24, but Beason once again put down a kill to earn a second chance at set point. This time, a block by Beason and Jackson won the set, 26-24.&nbsp;

Set 2:&nbsp;Allick had a block and kill, and Beason, Batenhorst and Jackson combined for six kills as the Huskers went ahead 9-2. Back-to-back kills by Jackson and Reilly kept the lead at seven, 11-4. Arkansas cut it to 15-10, but a kill by Beason and block by Beason and Jackson made it 17-10 Huskers. Arkansas got within five again, 17-12, but Beason recorded a kill and Jackson terminated on the slide to make it 19-12 Huskers. Jackson and Murray had kills for a 23-13 lead, and a kill by Beason and block by Allick and Reilly closed the set out, 25-14.&nbsp;

Set 3:&nbsp;Arkansas held an 8-7 lead when kills by Allick and Beason put the Huskers on top, 10-8. Back-to-back aces by Gillen put Arkansas back in front, 13-12, but Batenhorst and Murray terminated two straight kills for a 15-14 NU lead at the media timeout. But the Razorbacks responded with a 4-0 run out of the break to claim an 18-15 advantage, and the Huskers used a timeout. A solo block by Murray ended the run, and a kill by Murray and block by Beason and Allick cut it to 19-18. But after a timeout, the Razorbacks got a kill and a block to go up 21-18, and the Huskers called timeout. Beason then tallied her 14th kill, and a back-row kill by Murray got NU within 21-20. The Razorbacks answered with a 4-1 run to win the set, 25-21.&nbsp;

Set 4:&nbsp;Nebraska led 9-8 when a kill by Murray brought Orr in to serve again, and she delivered a 4-0 Husker run that put the Big Red up 13-8. Reilly and Allick had a block in that run, and Reilly dumped a kill. A kill by Murray put the Huskers ahead 14-10, but two straight hitting errors and a net violation allowed the Razorbacks within 14-13. Arkansas tied the score at 16-16, but Beason hit off the block and out to put NU back on top. But a service error and hitting error put Arkansas in front, 18-17, and an ace made it 19-17 Arkansas. Batenhorst terminated after a timeout, and a kill by Beason tied the score at 19-19. Arkansas regained a 20-19 lead but the committed a service error and attacking error to give the Huskers a 21-20 lead. Gillen answered with a kill, but the Huskers won the next three points on a pair of blocks and a third Arkansas attack error. The Razorbacks then fought off two match points before a service error sent Nebraska into the NCAA Semifinals.

NU punches ticket to Tampa, to face Pittsburgh

“I’m proud of our guy for an unbelievable bounce back game after a really difficult night in Minneapolis where we could not have played worse in the second half. Give Minnesota credit for the pressure they turned up on us, but I thought we learned a lot from that game. Our guys were locked during the film session the next morning and went out and had two really good hard physical days of practice preparing for a very tough Michigan State team. I thought the second half we got out, we talked about the starts obviously that have been an issue for our team, and to come out and get off to an 11-2 start in the second half and take a lead. They got a little lead on us there late, but for the most part we kept it for the entire 20 minutes. We made really smart decisions unlike the other night, and that’s something I give our guys a lot of credit for is learning from the mistakes we made in Minnesota. We had 12 turnovers in the second half (against Minnesota), tonight we had two. When you get the ball to the elbow, we worked a lot with that, getting movement, getting it to the elbow, cutting, and trying to use pressure against the defense. I thought our guys did a masterful job of getting the job to Rienk (Mast) and continuing with that, doing the things that made us successful.&nbsp; When I look at that box score, obviously Juwan (Gary) and Rienk with the nights they had, but you could argue anybody that stepped on the floor tonight was the player of the game. Eli (Rice) and Matar (Diop) go out and give us huge minutes especially with Josiah out of the lineup today with his ankle. Start to finish, I was just really pleased how the guys went out there and played a complete 40-minute game. Really talked a lot about that, and it couldn’t have happened at a better time.”&nbsp;

On Juwan Gary’s first start of the season and the game overall

“We’ll see. We’ve got a week to make that decision. Juwan’s energy out of the gate was great. It is just exactly what he does when he comes off the bench. It doesn’t change the person or the player that Juwan is. He is going to go out there and compete every time he’s on the floor. Made some huge blocks for us late in the game. Shot looked phenomenal tonight. He had great balance, and great lift, and knocking down shots when he was open. He had a really nice play to Rienk (Mast) after the timeout play. Just really made winning plays all night long. Rienk was an absolute monster on the glass. Got it handed to us the other night. Minnesota was much more physical than us. Again, that was a huge emphasis for us going into this game. Getting back in transition. We gave them too many in the first half, did much better in the second, but transition and rebounding were the two keys and for the most part, I thought we did a solid job.”

On shooting from 50% from the field and team decision making

“We executed. We talked about playing with pace but playing with smart pace. If we didn’t have anything, I thought we did a really nice job of getting into a set, and I thought we executed very well, especially in the second half. I think we were 65%, and that is not easy to do against a Tom Izzo team. We just kept going back to what was working, and I can’t call a timeout every possession. These guys have to go out there and execute. When we didn’t have anything, we didn’t press, we didn’t force, we got the ball where we needed to get it. You look at Rienk with six assists. It showed a little bit of what Derrick (Walker) did for us last year, and again the guys cut and withstood runs. I thought they kept their poise and composure. One thing I was really pleased with our team was how well they were communicating in huddles, and talking to each other, and taking constructive criticism, and then going out and executing. That makes our job as coaches a lot easier when those guys are over there talking about things that they need to figure out on the floor, and I thought our huddles were the best they’ve been all year tonight.”

Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo&nbsp;

“Disappointed is the word. There’s some things we did better. Couldn’t believe some of the shots we missed early then made a decent amount of shots. When they hit those threes banged in a two. 30-40 quarters in the shot clock. That kinda you know instead of being up eight or nine at half we were up to three or four. Give them credit. They made some plays. Third game of five that we’ve lost that we were up four minutes left in the game and found a way to win it.&nbsp; I think A.J. (Hoggard) played well on both ends. Tyson (Walker) played okay. I thought they did a good job at the end. Give Fred (Hoiberg) credit. Good job on him. Malik (Hall) had a tough game overall. I had to move him all over. There’s a lack of production I got out of my two centers. I’m just disappointed that I thought we were playing well enough to win. Boy, they made some shots in the second half. They did a hell of a job in those back doors and our centers got lazy. Ball pressure and they got three of them in the start of the second half. They made nine out of their first 11 shots. Nebraska post-game notes vs Michigan State

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos put themselves back in the AFC playoff race Sunday with a 24-7 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, whose season continues to go further off the rails after quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chargers-herbert-bfde1cb37a610215c2990090c818d328">Justin Herbert broke a finger</a>&nbsp;in the first half.

Wilson completed 21 of 33 passes for 224 yards for two touchdowns, including a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nfl.com/videos/can-t-miss-play-sutton-s-one-handed-catch-caps-46-yard-td-pass-by-wilson">46-yard TD to Courtland Sutton</a>&nbsp;in the third quarter.

Denver has won six of seven, and the Broncos are one of six teams in the AFC at 7-6 and fighting for one of the last two playoff spots. They are on the outside due to a 4-5 conference record, but three of their final four games are against AFC opponents.

“We’re in a horse race. We're three quarters the way through and we have to finish last quarter strong,” Wilson said after the Broncos snapped an 11-game road losing streak against AFC West foes.

Herbert has a fracture in his right index finger. Coach Brandon Staley said the Chargers will do more tests before determining how long Herbert will be out. It is a short week for the 5-8 Bolts, who have dropped four of five and are at Las Vegas on Thursday night.

It is the second broken finger for Herbert this season. He fractured the middle finger of his left non-throwing hand during the second half against Las Vegas on Oct. 1.

Herbert was 9 of 17 for 96 yards with an interception before being injured, apparently while he was taken down awkwardly by Denver’s Zach Allen after throwing a pass. He tried to grip the ball on the sideline after that drive but wasn't able to do it properly.

"I can’t remember whether it got hit on a helmet or whether it hit on someone’s shoulder pads. I just remember coming up and it wasn’t feeling right," said Herbert, who was wearing a splint on the finger after the game.

Herbert had been sacked four times and hit six times during the Chargers’ first six possessions, with his teammates repeatedly missing their blocks against Denver’s pass rushers.

The Broncos defense finished with six sacks and a pair of turnovers. They also held the Chargers to a combined 1 of 18 on third- and fourth-down conversions.

“We did a good job harassing the quarterback, both of them. It was one of our better team wins this season,” Denver coach Sean Payton said.

Easton Stick completed 13 of 24 passes for 179 yards in Herbert's place. He had played two NFL snaps in five seasons with Los Angeles before replacing the Bolts’ franchise quarterback with 1:52 remaining in the second quarter. His best throw was a 57-yard strike to Quentin Johnston during the fourth quarter. Four plays later, Austin Ekeler put Los Angeles on the board with a 4-yard TD.

Javonte Williams and Adam Trautman also scored for the Broncos.

Denver had a 10-0 halftime lead and extended it with less than six minutes remaining in the third quarter on Wilson's connection to Sutton. On first-and-10 from the Chargers 46, Wilson had plenty of time before stepping up in the pocket and throwing a deep pass. Sutton made a one-handed catch near the back of the end zone while being covered by Michael Davis.

“I think I had about 35 seconds back there,” said Wilson, slightly embellishing the clean pocket he had. “I went left, went right, went through my reads and then back to Courtland."

It was Sutton's 10th receiving TD of the year, making him the first Denver receiver since Julius Thomas and Demaryius Thomas to reach double digits.

Keenan Allen became the fastest receiver in NFL history to reach 900 catches with six receptions for 68 yards. Allen, who was drafted in the third round by the Chargers in 2013, reached the milestone in 139 games, four games faster than Antonio Brown.

Allen has 904 receptions in his 11-year career. He leads the league with 108 catches this season but was disappointed over the game's result.

“Obviously frustrated. The season didn’t go how you wanted it to. Still got, what, four games left? So we’ll keep at it,” he said.

Denver took a 7-0 lead with five minutes remaining in the first quarter on Williams’ 3-yard run up the middle. Denver gets back in playoff chase by zapping Chargers, 24-7

KEARNEY, NE.&nbsp;– The Tri-City Storm’s annual Teddy Bear Toss event at the Viaero Center on Friday night gathered hundreds of stuffed animals to be donated throughout the local community during this holiday season.&nbsp;

Prior to puck drop, more than one hundred stuffed animals were donated through both private and sponsorship donations. These were placed in select seats before the game and given to fans who arrived early for Friday’s event. The Teddy Bear Toss goal was scored by Storm forward Cam Briere during the 1st&nbsp;period of Tri-City’s rivalry matchup against the Omaha Lancers. Following the scoring play, hundreds of teddy bears and various stuffed animals made their way onto the ice as fans participated in the annual tradition. Every Storm player assisted staff members in their efforts to collect the donated items from the ice, and Tri-City went on to win the game by a final score of 4-3. &nbsp;

Stormy, along with several Storm players, will distribute the stuffed animals collected from this year’s event to various charities and organizations in the local community including CHI Health, Kearney Goodfellows, S.A.F.E. Center, Kearney/Buffalo County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA’s), Kearney Children’s Museum, Kearney Regional Medical Center, and Compass. Presenting sponsor Slumberland Furniture will also receive stuffed animals collected at the event and assist in distribution to those in need. &nbsp;

Tri-City Storm’s annual Teddy Bear Toss gathered hundreds of stuffed animals

CHADRON, Neb. -- In front of a blaring crowd, the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers defeated the Chadron State Eagle wrestling team 26-10 Friday night in the Chicoine Center.

After a 4-3 decision due to riding time for Kearney at 125 pounds, the Eagles won their three matches in consecutive order before the Lopers won the final five of the dual.

Quen Campbell, a senior from Tifton, Georgia and the returning national runner-up, won 8-6 at 133 pounds.

Drew Arnold for the Lopers scored an early takedown to gain a 3-0 lead in the first period. Campbell scored his first two points with a reversal but a late escape by Arnold gave him a 4-2 lead entering the second.

After starting on top, Campbell gave up an escape but scored a takedown to tie the match at five entering the final period. Campbell used two reversal points and a penalty point to win the match in the and improve to 7-0 on the season.

The nations 13th ranked wrestler, Ethan Leake, earned a 13-5 major decision against Daniel DeRosier at 141 pounds.

Leake, a graduate student from Clovis, California, scored first with a takedown before the pair each had two reversals in the round. No scoring occurred during the second period, making the score 7-4 entering the third.

Starting on bottom, Leake scored a reversal that resulted in four nearfall points and led to his major decision.

The Eagles final victory occurred at 149 pounds when Torry Early upset the nations #4 ranked wrestler at 141 pounds, Nick James.

James, a two time All-American, bumped weight classes for the dual while Early, a senior from Oak Park, Illinois, received his first varsity action of the season.

The action began in the third in final period. Trailing 1-0, Early chose to start on bottom and gained an early escape. He quickly scored a takedown and two nearfall points before James scored a reversal. It didn't take long for Early to score an escape point but James quickly took him back down again. Leading 7-6, Early managed to escape one more time, giving him an 8-6 victory.

Trailing 10-3, the remaining six matches resulted in two major decisions, two decisions, and one fall and sudden victory, all in Kearney's favor.

The sudden victory occurred at 157 pounds. Nicholas Stoltenberg started overtime on bottom and quickly scored an escape against Brandon Paredes to win the match.

Chadron State wrestles next at the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 16 and 17.

Alliance boys and girls wrestling sweeps Hot Springs on Thursday

LINCOLN, Neb. -&nbsp;The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team swept 12th-ranked and fifth-seeded Georgia Tech Thursday afternoon in a third-round NCAA Tournament match in front of 8,580 fans at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

With the win, the Huskers (31-1) advanced to an NCAA Regional Final for the 11th time in the last 12 years. Nebraska will play the winner of No. 2 seed Kentucky and No. 3 seed Arkansas, on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Devaney Center.&nbsp;

Nebraska was impressive and efficient in posting its third sweep in three postseason matches. The Huskers hit .326 in the match, just the third time this season that a Georgia Tech opponent hit .300 or better. While Nebraska's offense was clicking with 37 kills and only nine errors, the Husker defense held the Yellow Jackets to a .019 attack percentage. Georgia Tech had 28 attack errors while being held to a season-low hitting percentage.

Merritt Beason paced the Huskers with 11 kills on only 23 swings, hitting .435 in the match. Ally Batenhorst added 10 kills on 25 swings. Andi Jackson had four kills on six error-free swings while posting a match-high five blocks. Bekka Allick added four blocks and totaled six kills on 11 swings. Lexi Rodriguez had a match-high 12 digs, while Bergen Reilly added 10 digs to go along with 30 assists and three blocks.

Tamara Otene led Georgia Tech (24-7) with nine kills, while Bianca Bertolino had eight kills.

Set 1:&nbsp;Allick and Batenhorst each had two early kills as the Huskers went up 5-1. Two more kills by Batenhorst had the Huskers up 10-3, and Murray put down a pair of kills as the Huskers built the lead to eight at 15-7. Beason had two kills and an ace, and Jackson had a block with Batenhorst and a kill, and the Huskers extended their advantage to 21-10. Nebraska closed out the set, 25-11, hitting .281 to -.111 for Georgia Tech.&nbsp;

Huskers sweep their way to Regional Final

On Wednesday, the United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) announced the women’s finalists for the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy, with Husker senior Eleanor Dale one of three selected by NCAA Division I women’s soccer coaches.&nbsp;

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967. Most recently, Michelle Cooper (Duke) received the award for her outstanding intercollegiate performance last season.

The other two 2023 finalists joining Dale are Florida State’s midfielder Onyi Echegini of England and BYU’s forward Brecken Mozingo of Utah. The 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 5, 2024, to formally announce this year’s winner.&nbsp;

A native of Billingham, England, Dale turned in one of the best overall seasons in NCAA Division I soccer in 2023 with 61 points, 28 goals and five assists. She leads the country in total goals and now ranks third in Big Ten history in single-season goals and is just the fourth player in Big Ten history to total 60 points in a season.

In an outstanding senior season, Dale scored her nation-leading 27th and 28th goals in the third-round of the NCAA Tournament to post her 11th multi-goal match of the season, while helping Nebraska (17-4-3) to the third Elite Eight appearance in program history. With her total goals, she broke the Nebraska record for goals in a season with Kim Engesser, who previously held the record with 27 goals in 1998. Additionally, she is tied for first in the Husker record books in game-winning goals and her total shots this season place her at the top of the list.

The top-ranked Nebraska volleyball team will host an NCAA Regional in Lincoln for the first time since 2016 when the Huskers welcome No. 12 Georgia Tech to the Bob Devaney Sports Center for a 1 p.m. match on Thursday on ESPN2. The other regional semifinal features No. 8 Kentucky vs. No. 9 Arkansas at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday on ESPNU. HUSKERS RACK UP POSTSEASON AWARDS• Merritt Beason, a junior opposite hitter who transfered to NU from Florida, was named the AVCA Region Player of the Year, as well as All-Big Ten First Team and All-Region Team. Beason has stepped in as a team captain and is contributing a team-leading 3.83 kills per set this season with 2.05 digs per set and a .293 hitting percentage. A native of Gardendale, Ala., Beason earned four Big Ten Player of the Week honors this season and was the AVCA National Player of the Week on Oct. 24 following 21 kills in a 3-2 win over then-No. 1 Wisconsin. Beason had a career-high 27 kills on .426 hitting in a 3-2 reverse sweep at then-No. 16 Penn State on Nov. 3. As a sophomore at Florida in 2022, Beason was an All-SEC and AVCA All-Region selection.• Junior libero Lexi Rodriguez was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in her career, becoming the fifth player in Big Ten history to receive that honor twice in a career. She also earned AVCA All-Region and All-Big Ten First Team honors for the third time. Rodriguez, who averages 3.56 digs and 1.26 assists per set with a .980 serve reception percentage, leads a Husker defense that ranks third nationally in opponent hitting percentage. The crowd of more than 92,000 also surpassed what is widely regarded as the world-record attendance for any women’s sporting event.• The previously recognized world record was 91,648 fans in an UEFA Champions League match between Barcelona and Wolfsburg on April 22, 2022, at Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain. Huskers Open Big Ten Play at Minnesota Wednesday Night The Nebraska men's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season, as the Huskers travel to Minnesota Wednesday evening. Tipoff from Williams Arena in Minneapolis is set for shortly after 8 p.m. and the game will be televised on BTN and carried on the Husker Radio Network.

Wednesday's game is the first of two Big Ten games this week for the Huskers, as conference play started on Dec. 1 and goes throughout the week before resuming in January. &nbsp;Nebraska's other Big Ten matchup will be on Sunday when the Huskers take on Michigan State.

The Huskers (7-1) look to rebound following a loss to No. 15 Creighton on Sunday afternoon. Nebraska, whose 7-0 start was its best since the 1977-78 season, was held to a season-low 60 points after entering the game averaging over 80 points per game. The Huskers shot just 34 percent from the field, including 2-of-22 from 3-point range. NU led the Big Ten in 3-pointers per game coming into the contest.&nbsp;

One highlight for NU was senior guard Keisei Tominaga who led the Huskers with 20 points for his second 20-point game of the season. Tominaga, who missed the first two games of the season with an ankle injury suffered on Oct. 29, has rounded into form in recent games, averaging 16.8 ppg over his last five games while shooting 58 percent from the floor, including 44 percent from 3-point range.

Tominaga leads a balanced Husker attack which features four players averaging double figures, as Nebraska enters the week ranks sixth in the Big Ten with 78.9 points per game. Juwan Gary has been exceptional off the bench, averaging 14.4 points per game on 54 percent shooting, while newcomers Rienk Mast (14.0 ppg, 9.8 rpg) and Brice Williams (13.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg) round out NU's double-figure quartet.&nbsp;

Minnesota (5-3, 0-1) comes off an 84-74 loss at Ohio State on Sunday night. Dawson Garcia led all scorers with 36 points and 11 rebounds to pace three Golden Gophers in double figures. &nbsp;Garcia tops the Gophers in scoring (20.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.3 rpg) while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field.&nbsp;

About MinnesotaBen Johnson is in his third season at the helm of the Golden Gopher program. &nbsp;Johnson, who played at both Minnesota and Northwestern during his college career, won 13 games in his first season at Minnesota before his team battled through a bunch of injuries in 2022-23. Johnson has ties to NU, as he spent one season at Nebraska as an assistant coach under Tim Miles in 2012-13.

Minnesota has been solid at home with a 5-1 mark, with the only setback being a two-point loss to Missouri on Nov. 16. The Gophers feature one of the best big men in the conference in Dawson Garcia, who played at Marquette and North Carolina before returning to his home state. Garcia is averaging 20.5 ppg on 49 percent shooting while getting to the foul line nearly seven times per contest. He also paces the Golden Gophers with 8.3 rebounds per game. He is the only upperclassmen among the Gophers' top four scorers. Freshman Cam Christie is averaging 11.0 ppg while shooting 52 percent from 3-point range while sophomores Pherrel Payne (9.4 ppg) and Joshua Ola-Joseph (8.8 ppg) are both shooting over 60 percent from the field.&nbsp;

Series History: Nebraska and Minnesota will meet for the 85th time on Wednesday, which is the most between the Huskers and any other Big Ten member. It is NU’s longest-running series in the Big Ten, dating back to February of 1902. The Gophers lead the all-time series, 58-26, while the Huskers have won 11 of the past 16 meetings. Lincoln&nbsp;- Jaz Shelley became the first Husker in history to record a pair of triple-doubles in her career by producing 19 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists to fuel Nebraska's largest victory margin over a Division I team in the school record book with a 108-35 women's basketball win over UNCW at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Tuesday night.

Shelley, a graduate student from Moe, Australia, nearly notched a triple-double in the first half with eight points, eight rebounds and 10 assists to help Nebraska bolt to a 62-12 halftime lead. The Huskers (7-2), who scored 31 points in each of the first two quarters, tied the school record for most points in a first half, while holding the Seahawks (2-6) to the second-fewest points by an opponent in a first half in program history.

Shelley, who previously notched a Husker triple-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against North Carolina Central on Nov. 20, 2021, hit 5-of-10 three-pointers on the night to ignite the Huskers to a season-high 16 threes, tying for the second-most threes by a Husker squad in school history.

While Shelley stole the show, her historic performance came in less than 25 game minutes, as the Huskers produced a complete team effort.

Junior center Alexis Markowski notched her fourth straight double-double and fifth of the season with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in just 19 minutes of action.

Freshman Natalie Potts continued her impressive play with 11 points and eight rebounds in just 21 minutes, as she came up just two boards short of her second double-double.

Fellow freshmen Logan Nissley and Jessica Petrie both notched career highs, as Nissley pumped in 18 points on four three-pointers while adding five rebounds, four assists and three steals in 20 minutes. Petrie added 11 points and four boards in front of her family who arrived at the arena from Australia shortly before tip-off.

Darian White (11) and Callin Hake (10) rounded out a group of seven Huskers who scored in double figures on the night, while all 10 available Huskers scored at least three points and grabbed at least one rebound.

For the game, Nebraska hit a season-high 58.1 percent (43-74) from the field as the Husker point total tied for the 10th-highest in school history. The Big Red knocked down a season-best 45.7 percent (16-35) of its threes, while hitting 6-of-10 free throws. Nebraska held a dominant 57-25 edge on the glass, holding the Seahawks without an offensive rebound in the first 20 minutes. The Huskers also won the turnover battle, 18-11.

Nebraska's defense was solid, holding UNCW to just 23 percent (14-61) shooting for the game, including just 2-of-18 threes. Taylor Henderson and Kylah Silver, who were two of three Seahawks who entered the game averaging in double figures, managed led UNCW with nine points apiece.

Nebraska opens Big Ten play on the road Saturday, Dec. 9 as NU battles Michigan State in East Lansing at 1 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network and radio coverage will be provided by the Huskers Radio Network.

Shelley Triple-Double highlights big Husker win

After being named to the Omaha-World-Herald volleyball Class B All-State 2nd team on Sunday, the honors continued for Alliance High School star athlete Jaelynne Clarke as she was named to the Nebraska-Coaches-Association All-stars team on Tuesday.

Clarke finished her career with over 1,000 kills and helped the Bulldogs to the District Final in her senior season. She was among the leaders in entire state in kills with 460, while also leading Alliance in both digs and blocks.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Clarke will play in the 40th NCA All-Star volleyball match on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024, 6:00 p.m. at Lincoln North Star High School. The coaches will select players to play for either the red or blue teams in the match.
