Suleiman purchased his ticket at Thrifty’s Gas &amp; Liquor #5 at 210 E 6th Street in Lexington. The ticket contained two quick pick plays for the March 31 drawing, one of which matched the winning numbers 05, 08, 09, 32 and 37.

Suleiman said he’s been playing Pick 5 every day for the last 10 years in addition to all the other Nebraska Lottery Lotto games.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Police in Omaha say a passenger died when a car she was it hit a utility pole and rolled, and the driver of the car was arrested.

 The Omaha Police Department says in a news release that the crash happened early Friday morning in north-central Omaha when a BMW sedan left the road, hit a utility pole and flipped over. 

Police say 23-year-old Lepree-Ava Carroll-Fansler, of Papillion, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car. 

She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

HOUSTON (AP) — A&nbsp;federal judge did not immediately rule this week on a closely watched case over the fate of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which confers limited protections on hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought into the U.S. as children.

U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen set an early April deadline for lawyers on both sides to provide more information.

Texas&nbsp;heads a coalition of Republican-led states that want Hanen to invalidate the DACA program, instituted in 2012 by then-President Barack Obama. Defending the program is the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the state of&nbsp;New Jersey.

DACA recipients are granted a two-year reprieve from deportation that can be extended and receive a work permit and a Social Security number. The more than 600,000 people currently in the program must meet several requirements, including having no criminal record. Immigrants who are accepted and later get arrested face deportation to their country of origin.

Hanen declined in 2018 to issue a preliminary injunction, saying Texas and other states had waited too long to sue. But in that ruling, he said he believed DACA was unconstitutional and called on Congress to enact legislation shielding people under the program, often known as “Dreamers." Separate federal court rulings barred former President Donald Trump from ending the program and required him to reinstitute admissions.

But the program remains on potentially precarious ground. Lawyers for Texas&nbsp; pushed Hanen to quickly invalidate DACA. MALDEF has asked Hanen to delay any new order as President Joe Biden's administration and Congress consider legislation addressing DACA recipients.

Judge delays ruling on DACA immigration program

CRETE, Neb. (AP) — An animal rights group is demanding a criminal investigation because 91 pigs died at a Smithfield Foods plant in Nebraska after being exposed to extremely cold temperatures while waiting to be unloaded from trucks in February. 

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals group sent a letter to the Saline County Sheriff’s office Thursday with a copy of a USDA report on the deaths at the Smithfield plant in Crete. 

At least 40 trucks sat for more than an hour before the pigs were unloaded into a heated barn. 

Officials at the sheriff's office and Smithfield didn't immediately respond to questions Thursday afternoon.

 disbursing several million more payments in the third batch of Economic
 Impact Payments from the American Rescue Plan. This brings the total 
disbursed so far to more than 130 million payments worth approximately 
$335 billion.

 on March 12, Economic Impact Payments continue to roll out in batches 
to millions of Americans. The third batch of payments began processing 
on Friday, March 26, with an official payment date of March 31, with 
some people receiving direct payments in their accounts earlier as 
provisional or pending deposits. Here is additional information on this 
batch of payments:

For the first two batches of payments (which began processing on <a href="https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-treasury-disbursed-90-million-economic-impact-payments-from-the-american-rescue-plan">March 12</a> and <a href="https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-treasury-disburse-another-37-million-economic-impact-payments-from-the-american-rescue-plan">March 19</a>),
 payments were primarily sent to eligible taxpayers who filed 2019 or 
2020 returns. People who don't typically file a return but who 
successfully used the Non-Filers tool on IRS.gov last year were also 
sent payments in these first two batches, either as a direct deposit or 
by paper check or an EIP Card, a prepaid debit card.

Starting Friday, a large set of payments will begin going to Social 
Security and other federal beneficiaries who didn't file a 2020 or 2019 
tax return and didn't use the Non-Filers tool last year. These payments 
will go to Social Security retirement, survivor or disability (SSDI), 
Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) 
beneficiaries. As <a href="https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-projects-stimulus-payments-to-non-filer-social-security-and-other-federal-beneficiaries-will-be-disbursed-later-this-week">announced</a>
 previously, these payments will begin to be issued this weekend, with

benefit recipients and expects to determine a payment date and provide 
more details soon. Currently, the IRS estimates that Economic Impact 
Payments for VA beneficiaries who do not regularly file tax returns 
could be disbursed by mid-April. VA beneficiary payment information will
 be available in the Get My Payment tool at a future date

Special reminder for those who don't normally file a tax return

Some federal benefits recipients may need to file a 2020 tax return, 
even if they don't usually file, to provide information the IRS needs to
 send payments for any qualified dependent. Eligible individuals in this
 group should file a 2020 tax return to be considered for an additional 
payment for their qualified dependent as quickly as possible.

People who don't normally file a tax return and don't receive federal
 benefits may qualify for these Economic Impact Payments. This includes 
those experiencing homelessness, the rural poor, and others. For those 
eligible individuals who didn't get a first or second Economic Impact 
Payment or got less than the full amounts, they may be eligible for the <a href="https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/recovery-rebate-credit">2020 Recovery Rebate Credit</a>, but they'll need to file a 2020 tax return.  A bipartisan coalition of 45 attorneys general, led by North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein and Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery, raised concerns about the public health risks of these fake cards in a letter to the companies’ CEOs.

Legitimate vaccination cards are given by providers when they administer the vaccine. People who buy fake cards can have their own information added to the card or add it in themselves, so it appears they have been vaccinated when they have not. These deceptive cards threaten the health of our communities, slow progress in getting people protected from the virus, and violate many state laws.

In their letter, the attorneys general ask the CEOs to:

Opening-day ticket sales on Wednesday for “Godzilla vs. Kong” totaled $9.6 million, a single-day pandemic record and more than most 2020-2021 releases earned opening weekend. 

Last weekend, the monster mash pulled in an impressive $123.1 million internationally.

LINCOLN, Neb.-The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has been made aware that a medical worker in the Four Corners Health District experienced a significant medical event a week after receiving their first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.&nbsp; The individual is in their late 40s. &nbsp;The incident will be entered into VAERS, the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, a national vaccine safety surveillance program run by CDC and the FDA. Anytime a death or any adverse event occurs post-vaccination, the case must be reported into VAERS. This process allows the CDC and FDA to closely monitor and assess any adverse events, for ongoing safety evaluations. As is standard protocol for any significant incident reported in VAERS it will be fully reviewed.&nbsp; The event occurred in late March and the individual received the vaccine in Mid-March.

Dr. Gary Anthone, Nebraska's Chief Medical Officer said, “We are truly saddened to learn of this occurrence.&nbsp; It has been a tremendously tough year for Nebraskans and especially health care staff who have been on the frontlines of the pandemic since last year. We will share the results of the CDC review as soon as they are provided to us.&nbsp; While we remain confident in the safety of the vaccine, we will continue to monitor these types of situations. I cannot speculate on this particular incident; however, it is more likely that underlying factors contribute to medical events when they occur days or weeks after a vaccine has been administered. I cannot stress how important it is for individuals concerned about vaccination, particularly if they may have high-risk conditions, to consult their medical provider."&nbsp;

Over 405,162 Moderna vaccinations have been administered in Nebraska to date.&nbsp; Vaccination is the best line of defense against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cause of Tiger Woods crash found, officials won't reveal it

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) — A 27-year-old Grand Island man charged with killing his stepfather has pleaded not guilty.

 Cody Clark was charged in the February death of Donald Carlin.

 He pleaded not guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder and three other counts.

Speaking at a carpenters union training center in Pittsburgh, Biden drew comparisons between his hard-hatted proposed transformation of the U.S. economy and the space race — and promised results as grand in scale as the New Deal or Great Society programs that shaped the 20th century.

“It’s not a plan that tinkers around the edges,” Biden said. “It’s a once-in-a-generation investment in America unlike anything we’ve seen or done since we built the interstate highway system and the space race decades ago. In fact, it’s the largest American jobs investment since World War II. It will create millions of jobs, good-paying jobs.”

White House officials say the spending would generate those jobs as the country shifts away from fossil fuels and combats the perils of climate change. It is also an effort to compete with the technology and public investments made by China, which has the world’s second-largest economy and is fast gaining on the United States’ dominant position.

“I’m convinced that if we act now, in 50 years people are going to look back and say this is the moment when America won the future,” Biden said.

The Democratic president’s infrastructure projects would be financed by higher corporate taxes — a trade-off that could lead to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/joe-biden-donald-trump-politics-climate-climate-change-c14bb6ce360a43e6239abfe087758e5c">fierce resistance from the business community and thwart attempts to work with Republican lawmakers</a>. An additional $111 billion would go to replace lead water pipes and upgrade sewers. Broadband internet would blanket the country for $100 billion. Homes would get retrofitted, schools modernized, workers trained and hospitals renovated under the plan, which also seeks to strengthen U.S. manufacturing.

To keep companies from shifting profits overseas to avoid taxation, a 21% global minimum tax would be imposed. The tax code would also be updated so that companies could not merge with foreign businesses and avoid taxes by moving their headquarters to a tax haven. And among other provisions, it would increase IRS audits of corporations.

Biden appealed for Republicans and the business community to join him in negotiations on the bill, but the legislative prospects for Biden’s twin proposals already appear to hinge on Democrats coming up with the votes on their own through the budget reconciliation process, which requires just a simple majority in the 50-50 Senate.

“I’m going to bring Republicans into the Oval Office, listen to them, what they have to say and be open to other ideas,” Biden said. “We’ll have a good faith negotiation. Any Republican who wants to help get this done. But we have to get it done.”

Democratic leaders embraced Biden’s plan Wednesday. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York said it would create millions of jobs.

“I look forward to working with President Biden to pass a big, bold plan that will drive America forward for decades to come,” Schumer said at an event in Buffalo.

But Republican opposition to Biden’s ambitious proposal came swiftly, and with resolve for the long brawl ahead.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell dismissed the package as nothing more than a “Trojan horse” for tax hikes.

Republicans on Capitol Hill view the fight as a defining moment for the parties, framing it as a choice between Democrats intent on relying on government to solve the nation’s problems and a GOP that believes the private sector can best unleash the nation’s potential.

Smarting over Biden’s intent to undo the 2017 tax cuts has only solidified what could amount to a wall of GOP opposition.

The business community favors updating U.S. infrastructure but dislikes higher tax rates. U.S. Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President and Chief Policy Officer Neil Bradley said in a statement that “we applaud the Biden administration for making infrastructure a top priority. However, we believe the proposal is dangerously misguided when it comes to how to pay for infrastructure.” The Business Roundtable, a group of CEOs, would rather have infrastructure funded with user fees such as tolls.

Trump, in a statement, blasted his successor’s proposal, claiming it “would be among the largest self-inflicted economic wounds in history.”

Infrastructure spending usually holds the promise of juicing economic growth, but by how much remains a subject of political debate. Commutes and shipping times could be shortened, while public health would be improved and construction jobs would bolster consumer spending.

Standard &amp; Poor’s chief U.S. economist, Beth Ann Bovino, estimated last year that a $2.1 trillion boost in infrastructure spending could add as much as $5.7 trillion in income to the entire economy over a decade. Those kinds of analyses have led liberal Democrats in Congress such as Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal to conclude, “The economic consensus is that infrastructure pays for itself over time.”

But the Biden administration is taking a more cautious approach than some Democrats might like. After $1.9 trillion in pandemic aid and $4 trillion in relief last year, the administration is trying to avoid raising the national debt to levels that would trigger higher interest rates and make it harder to repay.

Biden’s efforts may also be complicated by demands from a handful of Democratic lawmakers who say they cannot support the bill unless it addresses the $10,000 cap on individuals’ state and local tax deductions put in place under Trump and a Republican-led Congress.

With a narrow majority in the House, those Democrats could conceivably quash any bill that doesn’t significantly lift the cap or repeal it entirely.

Acting United States Attorney Jan W. Sharp announced that a federal jury in Omaha, Nebraska, returned guilty verdicts today against Ramon Simpson, 50, of Norfolk, for kidnapping resulting in death and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.&nbsp; Kidnapping resulting in death carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment.&nbsp; 

There is no parole in the federal system. United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher presided over the 7-day trial and set sentencing for June 30, 2021.

Phyllis Hunhoff regularly traveled from her home in Yankton, South Dakota to her mother’s home in Utica, South Dakota.&nbsp; Her regular practice was to call her mother upon returning to Yankton.&nbsp; 

On November 4, 2018, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Phyllis Hunhoff left her mother’s residence, alone, to drive home to Yankton.&nbsp; She did not call her mother as she did not make it home.&nbsp; Having not heard from Phyllis, her mother began repeatedly calling her phone to determine her whereabouts.&nbsp; All calls were unanswered.

Simpson, Joseph James, and other men were near Phyllis Hunhoff’s mother’s residence as she was leaving.&nbsp; James and Simpson encountered Phyllis Hunhoff outside of the residence and got into her car.&nbsp; Simpson and James kidnapped Phyllis Hunhoff and took Hunhoff and her vehicle to Norfolk, Nebraska, arriving at about 11:00 p.m.&nbsp; 

When they arrived in Norfolk, James remained in the vehicle and Simpson exited the vehicle with James’s cellular phone.&nbsp; James drove Phyllis Hunhoff’s vehicle, with her inside, to the Santee Sioux Indian Reservation in Knox County, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Simpson proceeded to delete communications and location data from James’s phone detailing their travels and activities on November 4, 2018.

Video from a gas station on the Santee Reservation showed James driving Hunhoff’s vehicle and putting gasoline into her vehicle.&nbsp; 

Later, James returned in the same vehicle to the gas station and pumped gasoline into a soda bottle.&nbsp; James then drove to an isolated location on the Santee Reservation in Knox County, Nebraska, where he set fire to Hunhoff’s body and her vehicle to conceal evidence of the murder and kidnapping.&nbsp; James abandoned the body and vehicle and left the area.

When contacted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Simpson repeatedly lied about his and James’s whereabout on November 4 and 5, 2018.

James entered a plea of guilty to Murder in Indian Country on February 5, 2020, and on July 15, 2020 was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Acting United States Attorney Jan Sharp said, “The abduction and killing of Phyllis Hunhoff was a ghastly crime.&nbsp; Our hearts go out to her family.&nbsp; Mr. Simpson is richly deserving of the sentence he will likely receive.&nbsp; The two-year investigation and prosecution of Mr. Simpson, and Mr. James before him, was complicated by complex jurisdictional issues and the need to analyze volumes of digital evidence.&nbsp; The FBI and the trial team did an outstanding job putting together the case that led to Mr. Simpson’s conviction.”

After today’s verdict, FBI Omaha Special Agent in Charge Eugene Kowel said, “Ramon Simpson may not have killed Phylliss Hunhoff, but his participation in her abduction and kidnapping ultimately lead to her violent and senseless death.&nbsp; 

FBI Omaha is committed to continuing working with our state and local partners to apprehend violent criminals and bring them to justice.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Jody Mullis and Sean Lynch.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden wants $2 trillion to reengineer&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/joe-biden-c98de9fe006e508c59857e32fd12ca1a">America’s infrastructure</a>&nbsp;and expects the nation’s corporations to pay for it.

The president travels to Pittsburgh on Wednesday to unveil what would be a hard-hatted transformation of the U.S. economy as grand in scale as the New Deal or Great Society programs that shaped the 20th century.

White House officials say the spending over eight years would generate millions of new jobs as the country shifts away from fossil fuels and combats the perils of climate change. It is also an effort to compete against the technology and public investments made by China, the world’s second-largest economy and fast gaining on the United States’ dominant position.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the plan is “about making an investment in America — not just modernizing our roads or railways or bridges but building an infrastructure of the future.”

Biden’s choice of Pittsburgh for unveiling the plan carries important economic and political resonance. He not only won Pittsburgh and its surrounding county to help secure the presidency, but he launched his campaign there in 2019. The city famed for steel mills that powered America’s industrial rise has steadily pivoted toward technology and health care, drawing in college graduates from western Pennsylvania in a sign of how economies can change.

The Democratic president’s infrastructure projects would be financed by higher corporate taxes — a trade-off that could lead to fierce resistance from the business community and thwart any attempts to work with Republicans lawmakers. Biden hopes to pass an infrastructure plan by summer, which could mean relying solely on the slim Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate.

The White House says the largest chunk of the proposal includes $621 billion for roads, bridges, public transit, electric vehicle charging stations and other transportation infrastructure. The spending would push the country away from internal combustion engines that the auto industry views as an increasingly antiquated technology.

Another $111 billion would go to replace lead water pipes and upgrade sewers. Broadband internet would blanket the country for $100 billion. Separately, $100 billion would upgrade the power grid to deliver clean electricity. Homes would get retrofitted, schools modernized, workers trained and hospitals renovated under the plan, which also seeks to strengthen U.S. manufacturing.

Funding the first $2 trillion for construction and “hard” infrastructure projects would be a hike on corporate taxes that would raise the necessary sum over 15 years and then reduce the deficit going forward, according to a White House outline of the plan. Biden would undo the signature policy achievement of the Trump administration by lifting the corporate tax rate to 28% from the 21% rate set in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/2d9e099660064f2b8a8fc2237b4e7e4e">a 2017 overhaul</a>.

To keep companies from shifting profits overseas to avoid taxation, a 21% global minimum tax would be imposed. The tax code would also be updated so that companies could not merge with a foreign business and avoid taxes by moving their headquarters to a tax haven. And among other provisions, it would increase IRS audits of corporations.

White House officials led by National Economic Council Director Brian Deese offered a private briefing Tuesday for top lawmakers in both parties. But key GOP and business leaders are already panning the package.

“It seems like President Biden has an insatiable appetite to spend more money and raise people’s taxes,” Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, the GOP whip, said in an interview.

Scalise predicted that, if approved, the new spending and taxes would “start having a negative impact on the economy, which we’re very concerned about.”

The business community favors updating U.S. infrastructure, but it dislikes higher tax rates. An official at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce who insisted on anonymity to discuss the private talks said the organization fears the proposed tax hikes could undermine the gains from new infrastructure. The Business Roundtable, a group of CEOs, would rather have infrastructure funded with user fees such as tolls.

Pittsburgh is a series of steep hills and three intersecting rivers. Its steel mills once covered the sky in enough soot that men needed to take spare white shirts to work because their button downs would turn to gray by lunch. Only last year the city, amid&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/coronavirus-pandemic">the coronavirus pandemic</a>, met Environmental Protection Agency standards for air quality, even though it is increasingly the home of tech and health care workers with college degrees.

Standard &amp; Poor’s chief U.S. economist, Beth Ann Bovino, estimated last year that a $2.1 trillion boost in infrastructure spending could add as much as $5.7 trillion in income to the entire economy over a decade. Those kinds of analyses have led liberal Democrats in Congress such as Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal to conclude Tuesday, “The economic consensus is that infrastructure pays for itself over time.”

But the Biden administration is taking a more cautious approach than some Democrats might like. After $1.9 trillion in pandemic aid and $4 trillion in relief last year, the administration is trying to avoid raising the debt to levels that would trigger higher interest rates and make it harder to repay.

Psaki said Tuesday that Biden believes it’s “the responsible thing to do” to pay for infrastructure through taxes instead of borrowing. But the White House in its outline of the plan also couched the tax hikes as a matter of fairness, noting that 91 Fortune 500 companies paid $0 in federal corporate taxes in 2018.

Biden's tax hike will pay for $2T infrastructure plan

WASHINGTON — To help taxpayers, the Internal Revenue Service 
announced today that it will take steps to automatically refund money 
this spring and summer to people who filed their tax return reporting 
unemployment compensation before the recent changes made by the American
 Rescue Plan.

The legislation, signed on March 11, allows taxpayers who earned less
 than $150,000 in modified adjusted gross income to exclude unemployment
 compensation up to $20,400 if married filing jointly and $10,200 for 
all other eligible taxpayers. The legislation excludes only 2020 
unemployment benefits from taxes.

Because the change occurred after some people filed their taxes, the 
IRS will take steps in the spring and summer to make the appropriate 
change to their return, which may result in a refund. The first refunds 
are expected to be made in May and will continue into the summer.

For those taxpayers who already have filed and figured their tax 
based on the full amount of unemployment compensation, the IRS will 
determine the correct taxable amount of unemployment compensation and 
tax. Any resulting overpayment of tax will be either refunded or applied
 to other outstanding taxes owed.

For those who have already filed, the IRS will do these 
recalculations in two phases, starting with those taxpayers eligible for
 the up to $10,200 exclusion. The IRS will then adjust returns for those
 married filing jointly taxpayers who are eligible for the up to $20,400
 exclusion and others with more complex returns.

There is no need for taxpayers to file an amended return unless the 
calculations make the taxpayer newly eligible for additional federal 
credits and deductions not already included on the original tax return.

For example, the IRS can adjust returns for those taxpayers who 
claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and, because the exclusion 
changed the income level, may now be eligible for an increase in the 
EITC amount which may result in a larger refund. However, taxpayers 
would have to file an amended return if they did not originally claim 
the EITC or other credits but now are eligible because the exclusion 
changed their income.

These taxpayers may want to review their state tax returns as well.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 23 million U.S. 
workers nationwide filed for unemployment last year. For the first time,
 some self-employed workers qualified for unemployed benefits as well. 
The IRS is working to determine how many workers affected by the tax 
change already have filed their tax returns.

The new IRS guidance also includes details for those eligible taxpayers who have not yet filed.

 </figure>IRSWASHINGTON — To help taxpayers, the Internal Revenue Service 
announced today that it will take steps to automatically refund money 
this spring and summer to people who filed their tax return reporting 
unemployment compensation before the recent changes made by the American
 Rescue Plan.The legislation, signed on March 11, allows taxpayers who earned less
 than $150,000 in modified adjusted gross income to exclude unemployment
 compensation up to $20,400 if married filing jointly and $10,200 for 
all other eligible taxpayers. The legislation excludes only 2020 
unemployment benefits from taxes.Because the change occurred after some people filed their taxes, the 
IRS will take steps in the spring and summer to make the appropriate 
change to their return, which may result in a refund. The first refunds 
are expected to be made in May and will continue into the summer.For those taxpayers who already have filed and figured their tax 
based on the full amount of unemployment compensation, the IRS will 
determine the correct taxable amount of unemployment compensation and 
tax. Any resulting overpayment of tax will be either refunded or applied
 to other outstanding taxes owed.For those who have already filed, the IRS will do these 
recalculations in two phases, starting with those taxpayers eligible for
 the up to $10,200 exclusion. The IRS will then adjust returns for those
 married filing jointly taxpayers who are eligible for the up to $20,400
 exclusion and others with more complex returns.There is no need for taxpayers to file an amended return unless the 
calculations make the taxpayer newly eligible for additional federal 
credits and deductions not already included on the original tax return.For example, the IRS can adjust returns for those taxpayers who 
claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and, because the exclusion 
changed the income level, may now be eligible for an increase in the 
EITC amount which may result in a larger refund. However, taxpayers 
would have to file an amended return if they did not originally claim 
the EITC or other credits but now are eligible because the exclusion 
changed their income.These taxpayers may want to review their state tax returns as well.According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 23 million U.S. 
workers nationwide filed for unemployment last year. For the first time,
 some self-employed workers qualified for unemployed benefits as well. 
The IRS is working to determine how many workers affected by the tax

IRS will recalculate taxes on unemployment benefits; refunds to start in May

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Police have made a second arrest in the shooting deaths of two people in northeast Omaha. 

Police say in a news release Wednesday that officers arrested 24-year-old Nyamal Both on suspicion of being an accessory in the early-morning Saturday shooting deaths of 27-year-old Loklok Thok and 24-year-old Duop Tang Deng. 

Police earlier this week arrested 24-year-old Mabior Mabior, of Omaha, on suspicion of criminal homicide and weapons counts in the deaths. 

Police have not released a possible motive or other details of the shooting.

Omaha police make second arrest in fatal double shooting

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Police say a man who was arrested in Texas last summer on suspicion of carrying out the July shooting deaths of two people outside an Omaha motel has been extradited to Omaha. 

Police said in a news release Wednesday that John Parks Sr. was transported back to Omaha on Tuesday and booked into the Douglas County Jail.

 Parks was arrested in August in Dallas on Nebraska warrants charging him with first-degree murder and other counts in the July 30 deaths of 36-year-old Nicole Hatten and 35-year-old Michael Harbour.

 Both were shot outside a Best Western motel in southwestern Omaha.
