AHS Senior Mario Garza signs with Mount Marty University

Alliance High School Senior Mario Garza has signed to become part of the first football team to play at Mount Marty University in Yankton, South Dakota.  Mario was a 2 year starter on the offensive and defensive line for the AHS Bulldogs and was an All Western Conference and Honorable Mention All State selection his senior season.  Mario says he plans to play offensive line in college and is excited to be part of a brand new team. Mario also plays baseball for the Alliance Spartans, He is the son of Mariana and Mario Garza of Alliance.

Mount Marty wll play their inaugural football season this fall. This will be the first collegiate football team in Yankton since 1984, when Yankton College closed.  New Head Coach Mike Woodley has put together a staff and is actively recruiting players.  This year will be the second recruiting class for the Lancers. The players presently on campus went through a fall practice schedule last year. The Lancers will play their first game September 4 at home vs Dakota Wesleyan University.  Mount Marty is a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference and the NAIA.
