The Alliance First National Bank-Omaha Spartans put in a full weekend of baseball at the 35th Annual Hladky Tournament in Gillette, WY. The 8 team tournament began June 25 with Pool play. The Spartans competed with Gillette, the Colorado Ducks and Gallatin Valley, MT in Pool A. Mitchell, SD, Rapid City, SD, Premier West, Co and Rocky Mountain, CO made up Pool B.
Alliance opened play falling to the host team Gillette 8-0 and dropped a 4-1 decision to the Colorado Ducks on Thursday. The Spartans bounced back to defeat Gallatin Valley 4-2 on Friday to finish pool play 1-2. Saturday, the teams then moved into the bracketed tournament format. The Spartans faced Rocky Mountain and picked up a big win 10-0 to move into the 5th and 6th place game on Sunday. Alliance claimed 5th place with a close 9-8 win, in a rematch with Gallatin Valley, to finish 3-2 in the tournament and improve to 9-5 overall.
The FBNO Spartans return home to face Chadron in a Jr-Sr doubleheader Tuesday night, June 30 at Bower/Shankland Field. The Jr game begins at 5 pm with the Sr game to follow. Join KCOW, 1400 AM, 92.5 FM and panhandlpost.com for the broadcast of both games
