Dec. 18, 2024 (Lincoln, Neb.) — The Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Area Planning Agency (MAPA), in partnership with the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT), has been awarded a $2 million Prioritization Process Pilot Program Grant from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to launch the Transformative Regional Investment Prioritization System (TRIPS). This innovative program will change how transportation projects that modernize the network are selected and prioritized in the region.

TRIPS will implement a four-tiered assessment process to ensure transportation projects align with regional priorities and address the needs of the community for generations to come. By leveraging data analysis and engaging with the public, the program will identify the most impactful projects that can bring long-term benefits to the region.

Key benefits of TRIPS include improved collaboration between NDOT and MAPA, the regional planning agency for the greater Omaha metro area. The prioritization system will create a transparent and equitable decision-making framework. TRIPS will also emphasize enhanced public engagement, empowering local communities to have direct influence on the region’s transportation future.

NDOT plays a critical role in TRIPS, offering technical expertise and resources to ensure its success.

“We are excited to collaborate with MAPA on this important project. TRIPS will help NDOT make informed decisions that improve Nebraska’s transportation system and enhance residents’ quality of life,” said NDOT Director Vicki Kramer.
