A man wanted on a federal felony warrant has been arrested in Chadron.

On Aug. 17 at approximately 5 a.m. officers from the Chadron Police Department responded to Big Bat’s for a shoplifting call.

Officers learned that the suspect was wanted in South Dakota on felony charges for a probation violation steming from the underlining charge of homicide.

According to Chadron Police officer Sean Considine, "Officers found a vehicle crashed behind the China House Restaurant occupied by two females and later learned that 25 year old Stephan James Eagle Bear had fled on foot into a field north of McDonald's."

Officers set up a perimeter around the field north of McDonald's. Law enforcement located Eagle Bear hiding in tall weeds behind an abandoned building just north of McDonald's.

Eagle Bear was arrested without incident and transported to the Dawes County Jail.

The two other female occupants were also arrested. 26 year old Brianna J. Eagle Bear was arrested for a misdemeanor charge of obstructing. 38 year old Johncina P. Bear Robe was arrested for obstructing and a Dawes County warrant for failing to appear on a disturbing the peace charge. Both were taken to the Dawes County Jail.

“We had seen this vehicle occupied by Eagle Bear earlier in the night in downtown Chadron while walking and checking doors in the business district," Considine said. "When we saw the vehicle crashed behind the China House, we knew Eagle Bear would flee on foot, and present a danger to law enforcement. With the assistance of the other agencies, we were able to pin him down in the field and then apprehend him without incident."

The Nebraska State Patrol and Dawes County Sheriff’s Department assisted with this situation.
