Joan O. Kornrumph (Joy), 85

Joan O. Kornrumph (Joy), 85, died peacefully at the Birches in Concord, NH on August 15, 2019 after battling over 6 years with Alzheimers.

Joy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Shannon Michaels of Pembroke, NH and her brother Wayne Ylen in Texas and her sister Lily Strom in Michigan. Joy also had two grandchildren Kyle and Kaley and many nieces and nephews.


Joy was a Captain in the US Air Force and earned a BA from Northland, MA from U of Alaska, MBA from U of Alabama and an Education degree from Rollins College

Joy worked as a guidance counselor and english teacher at Lyman High School '70 - 92 while serving in the Air Force Reserve's 919th Aero Squadron at Eglin AFB. She was a long time member of TOPS club. She was a fixture in her Park Manor community where she rode her bike daily and attended Atonement and Hope Lutheran church. She always loved working with and helping young people. She was kind, compassionate, generous, loyal, and faithful. Her life mattered, and that's the Joy we will remember and honor.


A funeral is scheduled for September 15 at 10:00am at Woodlawn Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joy’s life. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your church or Alzheimers research.

Jack Honerkamp, 67

Jack Honerkamp (67) of Chadron, NE took his last breath Monday, Sept 2 at home surrounded by friends and family. Jack was born April 27, 1952 in Rapid City, SD.


He was the fourth of eight children born to Marie and John Honerkamp. He enjoyed a childhood filled with friends and fun while living and working on the family resort. He graduated from Sturgis High School in 1970 and later graduated from Dunwoody Institute of Technology . He returned to Piedmont, SD where he built the first of his two homes. In 1977, he met his wife Kate Merriman. They moved to the Chadron area in 1982. Jack was known for his generous spirit, the music that surrounded his life, and his mastery of carpentry. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in the fall of 2018. Jack is survived by his wife, Kate Merriman their children Autumn (Clark) Miller of Wichita, KS, Forest (Annie) Honerkamp of Lincoln, NE, Sage Honerkamp of Chadron, NE; and Terran (Nelly) Honerkamp of Chadron, NE and by grandsons Leif and Cael Miller (Autumn)and Jack Honerkamp (Forest).


There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, September 7th at the Chadron Arts Center at 1pm. In lieu of donations, please consider planting a tree in his memory.
