Looking to match last season's win total swiftly, Eagle volleyball set to open RMAC play

The Chadron State College volleyball team opens Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this weekend as they host Adams State and Fort Lewis on Friday and Saturday, respectively.


The radio Voice of the Eagles, Double Q Country is giving away free tickets while they last Friday at their studios in downtown Chadron to both matches for fans!


Last weekend, the Eagles had a repeat performance of their home tournament by going 3-1 at the Fort Hays Fall Tournament to improve their record to 6-2 for the season.


Friday's opponent, the Grizzlies from Adams State, enter the matchup with a 4-5 record. Adams went 2-2 in two separate tournaments and fell to Angelo State at home. Two seniors, two juniors and two sophomores lead the team that is completed by 10 freshmen. 


Offensively, the Grizzlies are led by Hannah Goddard and Riley Ogelvie. Goddard has 81 kills on the season while Ogelvie has 72. Bailey Schlosser leads the team with 163 assists.


Shannon Mulkey leads Adams State with 29 total blocks for the year, an average of one per set. Mackenzie Swanson and Goddard both average over three digs per set defensively. Swanson leads the team with 105 digs for an average of 3.62, while Goddard has recorded 90 digs, an average of 3.10.


Since 2006, the Grizzlies are 13-0 against the Eagles.


The Fort Lewis Skyhawks are also 4-5 for the season. CSC and the Skyhawks both have faced Northwestern Oklahoma State, but had opposite outcomes. The Eagles fell in four sets to Rangers last weekend, while the Skyhawks defeated them in four sets in week one.  


Last Season, Fort Lewis defeated Chadron State for the first time in four years.


Bailey Longacre leads the Skyhawks with 66 kills for the season and an attack percentage of .221. Payton Harmann and Courntey Bayles lead the team in assists, having almost identical numbers for the young season. Harmann has recorded 119 assists, while Bayles has 118. 


Kamryn Lopez leads Fort Lewis with 105 digs for the season and Longacre also leads in blocks, with 16.


First serve for both matches are set for 6 p.m., in the Chicoine Center.
