The Alliance Volunteer Fire Department was called out to a fire at the Alliance landfill on Oct. 9.

According to Alliance Assistant Fire Chief Brad Schrum, crews were called at 1:13 p.m.

The fire was in the center of a bale pile at the landfill. Alliance Fire Chief Troy Shoemaker said, "We have no idea what caused it."

"We had two trucks...a fire truck and a tanker, a command vehicle, and a total of six people," said Shoemaker. "We just doused it with 3,000 gallons worth of water cause it was a fairly contained fire."

Schrum said fire crews left around 2:30 p.m.
