Posted Jan 09, 2020 5:40 PM

Karen Benzel of the United Way of Western Nebraska serving Box Butte and Dawes Counties tells Panhandle Post that the 2020 fundraising goal of $95,000 is at approximately 98% to completion.

Benzel notes that the $95,000 includes both Box Butte and Dawes counties.  The funds collected support United Way partner agencies and community impact programs, such as the annual Day Of Caring and other events.

According to Benzel, all funds donated stay in the home county; additionally, all partner agencies are screened and selected by panels of local individuals.

Benzel also reported this week on a Christmas baskets initiative spearheaded by the United Way over the holiday season with an outpouring of assistance from churches and individuals.  282 baskets served over 900 Box Butte County residents.  Benzel expressed her appreciation to the volunteers who helped make the basket program a reality for needy families.
