Boyfriend charged with murder in death of Kan. woman, 8-year-old

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities investigating the double murder of a mother and her 8-year-old daughter and continue to search for the suspect identified as 25-year-old Daniel O. Lopez. 

On Friday police presented the case against Lopez to the Sedgwick County District attorney who charge him with  Capital Murder, Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a convicted felon and Aggravated Assault, according to officer Paul Cruz.

On Monday, police responded to a welfare check call at a home in the 4500 Block of South Walnut in Wichita, according to Captain Jason Stephens from the Wichita Police Department Persons Crime Bureau.

When officers arrived, they entered the home and found two victims identified as 25-year-old Mickayla Sorell and her 8-year-old Natalia Sorell-Lopez dead from apparent gunshot wounds, according to Stephens.

Police had responded after a call that Mickayla had not shown up for work Monday. Investigators believe the shooting occurred late Saturday, March 28, according to Stephens.

 Police are asking the public for help to find him. Lopez is considered armed and dangerous and anyone who knows where he is should call 911.

 These were the 13th and 14th homicides in Wichita this year, according to Stephens.
