CHADRON – Due to COVID-19 concerns and guidelines, Chadron State College’s 2020 The Big Event is moving to a virtual format.

Instead of fulfilling jobsite tasks within the community, CSC students, faculty, and staff are asked to complete a random act of kindness on Saturday, April 18. Volunteers are encouraged to share their act of kindness on social media, using #BigEventCSC2020 and tagging The Big Event’s pages.

The Big Event Graduate Assistant Kelsey Brummels said she is glad volunteers will still have the chance to give back.

“Though we won’t be fulfilling any community jobsite requests, I think there is a lot of potential with a virtual format,” Brummels said. “Not only will volunteers be able to give back, but our volunteers will gather by sharing their own journey with #BigEventCSC2020. It’s definitely a unique plan of action, but it might open doors for future possibilities.”

Examples of suggested acts of kindness are calling an old friend, writing a letter to a loved one, and posting a positive message on social media. Brummels said volunteers are asked to be creative yet cautious when constructing their act of kindness.

“The Big Event staff cannot stress enough how critical it is for volunteers to use caution and abide by all COVID-19 guidelines when determining what acts of kindness they wish to complete,” Brummels said.

Those interested in virtually volunteering are not required to complete any prior registration but will be asked to complete a brief survey April 18.
