Roger D Smith passed away on April 30, 2020 at his home in Sun City West, Arizona surrounded by his family. Roger was born on June 21, 1944 in Knoxville, Iowa. He was born to Harold and Hattie (Phillips) Smith.
In 1967, he married Cynthia Fuller and from this union they were blessed with two sons Stephen and Phillip.
Roger had a driven desire for computers and technology. In 1990, he put the in house computer system in Western Heritage Credit Union. He worked for Controlled Data for 30 years out of Rapid City, South Dakota. Roger then retired in October of 2005.
Roger had many hobbies, but his true love was flying. Roger was a certified pilot for over 30 years. For many years he used his plane for work and pleasure. Roger also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards and socializing.
In July of 2005, Roger was united in marriage to his second wife Sharon Hopp. During their retirement, they enjoyed flying around to many different places. They also enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and spending their winters in Texas and Arizona.
Roger was a member of Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Cynthia, his sisters Shirley, Lois, and Joyce. He is survived by his wife Sharon, his sons Stephen and wife Jennifer of Severance, Colorado, and Phillip of San Antonio, Texas and one brother Lloyd Smith of Vancouver Island, Canada, step children Brenda and Tommy Abdelnour of Palm Desert, California, Bridget and Mark Vaughn of Alliance, Nebraska, and Steven and Trista Hopp of Alliance, Nebraska and numerous grandchildren and other relatives. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
