Kan. airman dies in head-on crash; driver jailed for alleged DUI

JEFFERSON COUNTY—A member of the Kansas Air National Guard has been identified as the driver who died in an accident just after 11p.m. Saturday in Jefferson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2016 Chevy Silverado driven by Manuel Enriquez, 35, Kansas City, Mo., was eastbound on U.S. 24 just west of 3rd Street.

The pickup crossed the centerline and struck a westbound 2016 Chevy Cruz driven by 23-year-old Cheyanne Louise Branson, Diana, Texas.

Branson was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Barnett Family Funeral Hone. Enriquez was not injured. Both drivers were properly restrained, according to the KHP.

 Staff Sgt. Branson was assigned to 190th Air Refueling Wing, Force Support Squadron and served 4 ½ years with the Kansas Air National Guard as a Career Development Specialist, according to a media release from Kansas Air National Guard.

Manuel remains in custody in Jefferson County on requested charges of DUI, murder in the second degree; unintentional but reckless, according to online jail records.
