CHADRON, Neb. -- The Chadron State women's basketball team trailed by five at halftime but were outscored 45-26 by Colorado Christian in the second half to lose 70-46 Tuesday evening in the Chicoine Center.
Chadron State drops to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Cougars improve to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the RMAC.
The Eagles trailed 9-8 at the end of the first period and 25-20 at halftime. Both teams were tied at 16 in the second period before the Cougars scored seven straight to gain the lead and eventually lead by five at half
A jumper by Allison Olsen lowered the deficit to three with 6:53 in the third period but Colorado Christian responded with a 19-6 scoring run to lead by 16 at the end of the period. The Cougars outscored the Eagles 24-16 in the final period.
Chadron State struggled from the field in the loss, making 16 of 41 attempts (39.0%). CSC only made two of 12 attempts (16.7%) from three but were 12 of 15 from the charity stripe.
The Cougars also struggled from the field, making 25 of 69 attempts for 36.2 percent, their second worst showing of the season. Despite struggling from the field, Colorado Christian shot 42.3 percent from three and 90 percent from the free throw line. They made 11 of 26 attempts behind the arc, included eight of 14 in the second half and were nine of ten from the free throw line.
For the second time this season, CSC committed 26 turnovers that amounted in 26 Cougar points. Chadron State scored 12 points off of 16 CCU turnovers. The Eagles were outrebounded 39 to 30.
Olsen, a sophomore from Douglas, Wyoming, led Chadron State with 11 points. Seven other players scored for CSC.
Ashayla Powers, a junior from Longmont, Colorado and Awoti Akoi, a junior from Sioux Falls, South Dakota each had six rebounds.
Dasiya Jones and Regan Loconte each had 13 points for the Cougars. Maggie Hutka and Victoria Perez each added eight points. Hutka had a game high nine rebounds and Perez dished out a game high eight assists.
Chadron State resumes RMAC play on Saturday at 2 p.m. on Saturday against Regis University.
