CHADRON, Neb. – Chadron State tallied four technical falls, Caleb Chaves earned a ranked win and CSC came within one win of a clean sweep in a dominant 39-3 dual victory over CSU Pueblo on Friday night in the Chicoine Center.

The Eagles improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the RMAC ahead of a clash with fellow RMAC unbeaten Adams State next Saturday, January 31. CSU Pueblo fell to 4-4 and 0-2 in the RMAC.

Chadron State received bonus points from six wrestlers in Friday's win. Quade Smith earned a pin to start the match at 125 pounds, Aidan Callahan (149 pounds), Brandon Paredes (157), Keegan Gehlhausen (184) and Mason Villwok (197 pounds) all scored five points each with tech-fall wins while Tayten Gillette earned a four-point major decision.

Also victorious during Friday's dual were Hunter Jacobsen (133 pounds), Caleb Chaves (141) and Eli Reese (285).

The night's highest-profile showdown featured Pueblo's Eddie Bowman (ranked No. 13 by NWCA, No. 14 by Open Mat) against Caleb Chaves (ranked No. 14/17), who was in the top 10 before his loss in last week's dual to New Mexico Highlands while Chaves struggled to get through the match due to injury.

It was a bounce back performance and then some for Chaves. After the two felt each other out for much of the match, Chaves went airborne to wrangle down Bowman for the bout's only takedown with just under 20 seconds left to seal a 4-2 win.

At the stage, CSC led comfortably 12-0 after a pin from No. 4-ranked Quade Smith and an 8-6 decision win from Hunter Jacobsen. With the ThunderWolves unable to get a win from their only ranked wrestler, Chadron State seized momentum and made scoring points contagious for the rest of the match.

Aidan Callahan earned five points with a 17-2 tech fall win before Brandon Paredes needed just 1:49 to rack up a 15-0 tech win over CSUP's Hunter Richardson. At 165 pounds, Tayten Gillette pushed for a final takedown with 10 seconds left which, combined with the riding time point, put Gillette over the top for a major decision win at 11-3, bringing CSC's dual lead to 26-0.

Pueblo got its only win at 174 pounds, a hard-fought 5-3 decision, before the Eagles resumed the blowouts. Keegan Gehlhausen wrestled at home for the first time all season and showed no signs of rust with a 20-2 tech win before Mason Villwok earned a tech for the second straight RMAC dual, winning 17-1 at 197, and Reese's decision win ended the dual.

Chadron State's January 31 dual against Adams State is its final home dual of the season. The Eagles are halfway through the six-match RMAC season.
