Harrisburg, Neb. - School officials at Banner County made a public announcement on Monday evening that the Banner County Wildcats will forfeit the remainder of the 2024 NSAA football season. The decision was made due to safety concerns.
Banner County official statement below regarding the decision to cancel the remainder of the season:
"Due to our inability to safely field a team, we have made the decision to forfeit the remainder of the varsity football season. This was a difficult decision made after careful consideration. We thank our student athletes and coaches for their efforts and community for their support of Banner County football."
The Wildcats had 11 kids on their roster and have been dealing with injuries throughout the season. Banner County finishes the season at 0-5. This marks the second time in just over a week that a Nebraska high school team has cancelled the remainder of their season. Back on October 1st, Southern Valley (Oxford) made the announcement to cancel the rest of the season due to low numbers.
