Chadron State football kicks off its season one month from today in Illinois on August 31, and on Friday in Denver the RMAC's football schools shared pre-season thoughts with the media in anticipation of fall camps opening this week.

Head Coach Jay Long addressed what his staff determined to be the two main areas of improvement the Eagles needed to focus on going into the offseason.

Coach Long talked about how the team utilized the transfer portal to help rebuild the secondary in an effort to cut down on allowing big plays. So far, it sounds like it's already paying off with new players making their mark.

All-American defensive lineman Hunter O'Conner and second team all-conference center Michael DeCamillis are two veterans that attended media day with Coach Long.  The pair described the hunger they and the team have to get back on the field following a 3-8 season.

The Eagles will open fall camp practices at the end of the week and have 25 total get-togethers with 13 of those practices allowing pads.  Coach Long emphasized there's no room for wasting any of those practices and the team's focus has to be sharp.

Check back on panhandlepost.com this week for more comments from Long, O'Connor and DeCamillis as we lead into fall camp.
