The region’s high school track and field season will get underway Saturday, March 16 when Chadron State College hosts its annual indoor meet inside the Nelson Physical Activity Center.  The action will begin with field events at 9 a.m.

Athletes from 14 schools in the tri-state area have been entered. Both coaches and athletes appreciate knowing they’ll have a meet where chilly or wet weather will not be a factor.

The Nebraska schools planning to compete are Alliance, Bayard, Chadron, Cody-Kilgore, Creek Valley, Gering, Hay Springs, Hemingford and Scottsbluff.  Bennett County, Custer, Lakota Tech and St. Thomas More are entered from South Dakota, along with Southeast High at Yoder in Wyoming.

This will be the 37th year that at least one indoor meet for high school athletes has taken place since the Nelson Center opened in 1987.  An exception was in 2000, when COVID 19 caused nearly all of the spring and many summer athletic events to be cancelled.

The meet will be open to the public.  Bleachers will be available to accommodate spectators.
