AMS Athletes compete in Nebraska Middle School Track and Field Championships

The Nebraska State Middle School Track and Field  Championship Meet  was held May 15 at Gothenburg High School.  This event started in 2010 and is an all-class 7th and 8th grade combined track meet that invites the top 24 individuals and top 16 relay teams, regardless of school size,  to compete. The event is usually held the Saturday before the High School State Track and Field Meet.  Medals are awarded to the top 8 finishers.

Several panhandle middle school athletes competed in this years event.  Alliance 7th grader, Trevor Zurn was a 2nd place finisher in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:53.42.  That mark broke his Dad, Curt's middle school record, set 30 years ago.  Trevor also finished 3rd in the 800 with a time of 2:12.07 which broke his own school record.  Trevor is the son of Curt and Becci Zurn of Alliance

Alliance 8th grader Shyla Salcido placed 6th in the Girls Shot Put with a throw of 31' 7". Shyla is the Daughter of Jose and LaShelle Salcido of Alliance.

There were several other athletes from panhandle schools that competed...Quinn Bailey of Chadron was 2nd in the Boys 100, 8th in the Boys 200 and 5th in the Boys 400.

JaShawn Davenport of Sidney was 6th in the Boys 1600 and ran with Noah Canas, Alek Doty and Conner Hurt to place 6th in the Boys 4x400 relay.

Jaili Benish of Leyton was 5th in the Girls 100 Hurdles and 3rd in the Girls 200 Hurdles.

Bronson Freeseman, Austin Child, Kyler Vincent and Wyatt Fedderson of Gordon/Rushville finished 7th in the Boys 4x100 relay.

Nathan Seiler, Aiden Bell, Tyler Fogle and Sxton Stone of Gering were 4th in the Boys 4x800 relay.

Kayla Westby of Sidney was 7th in the Girls High Jump.

Ryan Hinman of Scottsbluff was 7th in the Boys Shot Put
