Scottsbluff Grad, Garrett Nelson will skip final season at Nebraska

Multiple reports out of Lincoln on Tuesday,  say former Scottsbluff Bearcat and Cornhusker Team Captain Garrett Nelson, will not return for a fifth season at Nebraska.   According to 10/11 Now,  Nelson announced Tuesday,  on twitter,  that he will declare for the 2023 NFL Draft. 

Nelson lead the Huskers with 9 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks, with  a career high 65 tackles in 2022.   He played in 43 games, making 32 straight starts in his 4 seasons at Nebraska. Nelson finishes with 26 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and 167 total tackles. 

On his Twitter post Nelson said..." Ever since I was a little kid, my dream to attend the University of Nebraska, follow in my father's footsteps, and become a collegiate athlete, was a constant in my life".   "Representing this University, the people of this state and my family was one of the highest honors I will have in my life."   "I thank everyone who supported me and loved me along the way." 

He went on to thank his Teammates, Coaches and Cornhusker fans.  The 2023 NFL Draft will be April 27, 28 and 29, in Kansas City.
