Alliance knew they had a pair of tough challenges on Friday night against Ogallala, but the Bulldogs girls' and boys' basketball teams gave their best effort against the Indians in a 46-42 final score in girls game and 73- 47 final in the boys.
The Lady Bulldogs took an early 12-7 lead in the first quarter, but Ogallala ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to tie it at 12-12 after one period. Ogallala led 25-24 halftime lead.
Alliance struck back and outscored the Indians by two in the third quarter to lead 32-31. The 4th quarter like the whole game was back and forth, but ultimately two Hayden Shaw three-pointers late was the difference in the 46-42 win for Ogallala.
Macey Seebohm led Alliance with 15 points in the KCOW unofficial scorebook, many of which from the free-throw line. Haylie Winter had a great night with 8 points, Jaelynne Clarke picked up her scoring in the second half to finish with 8. Addi Weber had a big defensive night while also chipping in with 4, Shyla Salcido had 4 and Regan Braun had 3.
Hayden Shaw had 18 points on six three pointers to lead Ogallala to the win to improve to 8-6.
Alliance falls to 5-8 as they travel to Chadron on Monday evening.
In the boys' game, Alliance had a great start thanks in part to Tristen Timbers having his way inside, scoring 7 of his team high 15 points in the first few minutes. Ogallala responded to take a 39-31 halftime lead.
The Indians used defense to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Alliance 20-3 in the period to close the door on the Bulldogs upset bid. The fourth quarter was evenly matched as Ogallala won 73-47 to improve to 14-1 overall.
Landen Crowe had 9 points, while Sophomore Lexton Salcido dazzled off the bench with 8, including back-to-back 3-pointers. Espen Lanek had 7, Seth Meyring had 2, Bert Trevino had 2 and Fillipo Bandera had 1.
Alliance falls to 5-8 with a match-up at Chadron on Monday. Both games will be on KCOW and panhandlepost.com starting at 5:30.
