Local Girls and Boys basketball teams are set to open the 2022-23 season this week at the Western Conference Invitational Tournament. Conference teams Alliance, Chadron, Gering, Mitchell, Scottsbluff and Sidney along with Sterling and Arvada, Colorado, will compete in the 3 day event, with games played at Scottsbluff, Gering and Mitchell High School and Western Nebraska Community College.
Girls play gets underway Thursday December 1, with Alliance facing Chadron in Scottsbluff and Scottsbluff vs Sterling in Mitchell, at 4 pm. Sidney Girls vs Arvada in Gering at 5:30 pm and Gering vs Mitchell in Scottsbluff at 7 pm. Boys games will open with Mitchell vs Sidney in Gering at 4 pm. Alliance Boys vs Gering in Mitchell at 5:30 pm. Sterling vs Chadron in Scottsbluff at 5:30 pm and Scottsbluff vs Arvada in Gering at 7 pm.
Play continues Friday, December 2 with Girls winners bracket games at 5 and 8 pm and Boys winners bracket games at 3:30 and 6:30 pm all at WNCC. Consolation bracket games on Friday will be at Scottsbluff with Boys at 3:30 and 6:00 pm and Girls at 5 and 8 pm.
Saturday the Girls 7th place game will be at 10 am and the Boys 7th place game at 11:30 am, followed by the Girls 5th place game 1 pm and Boys at 2:30 pm, all at Gering. The Girls 3rd place game is set for 10 am and the Boys 3rd place game will be at 11:30 am at WNCC, Followed by the Girls Championship game at 1 pm and the Boys Championship at 2:30 pm also at WNCC.
