On this the Memorial Day weekend, supporters of Chadron State College and its athletics and will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the CSC Don Beebe Golf Classic Tournament at Ridgeview Golf Course south of town.
The tournament will begin Friday evening with the annual Par-Three Shootout at hole two. Nearly 140 golfers will take part in the four-person team scramble Saturday and Sunday. This year they’ll come from 10 states, some as far as Florida, Arizona and Tennessee. Among the golfers signed up are lots of local residents as well as numerous CSC alums, many of them former athletes.
The 34 teams will split tee-times between morning and afternoon on Saturday. Championship rounds in four flights will take place Sunday. Returning champions Trevor Berry, Tyler Westlake and Jacksyn Behrends, all of Chadron, and Dom Yates, of Lander, Wyo., will defend their title for the second year, having won the tournament in both 2022 and 2023.
Among those likely to challenge for the championship are Alpine Hickstein of Chadron, Kinsey Smith of Windsor, Colo., Jordan Grasis, of Yuma, Ariz., and Brooke Kramer of Aurora, Colo. All are recent CSC golfers who have spent hours improving their game at Ridgeview. Hickstein’s final season as a CSC golfer was 2022-23 while the others were seniors this year.
