CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A wildfire burning in southeastern Wyoming wildfire has grown to 27.75 square miles after becoming more active in windy, warm weather on Wednesday.

Calmer winds and cooler weather had brought the fire in Medicine Bow National Forest almost to a halt Monday and Tuesday before the shift in conditions.

The wildfire has burned most of the Savage Run Wilderness, where it began Sept. 17, and part of the North Platte Wilderness.

Extreme fire spread like when firefighters had to retreat last weekend could resume.

The National Weather Service has posted a red flag warning for much of Wyoming, including the Medicine Bow National Forest.
