Alliance SRs 8, Scottsbluff 7
Alliance and Scottsbluff matched each other to the very end when Alliance held off a rally to win 8-7 Sunday.
Down 1-0, Alliance scored four in the third inning only to see Scottsbluff answer with two runs to make it 4-3 Spartans. Alliance plated two more in the seventh for a 6-3 lead but Scottsbluff once again came back in the bottom half with three runs to tie it 6-6. Alliance shot back ahead 8-6 in the top of the ninth and held Scottsbluff's rally to a run to preserve the close win.
The teams combined for 28 hits. Vic Hinojosa paced the Spartans with a 3/4 game and three RBIs. Caeson Clarke had three hits and an RBI. Creighton Dike was 3/4 and drove in two for Scottsbluff.
Brush, CO 8, Alliance SRs 1
Brush continued to tack on runs throughout and held Alliance to just three hits in an 8-1 win Sunday.
Beet Diggers pitcher Jando Maltos Garcia threw seven innings and struck out a dozen Spartans. He was strong at the plate as well, notching a pair of hits and leading Brush with three RBIs.
Scottsbluff SRs 9, Buckley (Chappell) 1
Four errors pushed the Zephyrs to an easy win over the Bombers Sunday 9-1.
Logan Kerr started on the mound for Chappell but lasted just two innings. He gave up six runs, none earned, and allowed only two hits.
Scottsbluff scored in the opening inning then added five more in the second to take a 6-1 lead. Jerod Balthazor had a pair of hits and drove in four runs. Creighton Dike brought in three runs with the bat. Chris Snelling had a 2/3 day at the plate.
Dike and Balthazor combined on the mound for the win. Dike got the start and limited Chappell to one hit in two innings. Balthazor took over and gave up just three hits.
