At the July 7 Alliance City Council meeting, council approved an award bid for construction of the Sunken Garden Renovation Project.

The project bid was awarded to K. L. Wood and Co. LLC of Alliance in the amount of $544, 892.

The bid came in much lower than anticipated.

"I am so excited," said Tami Cox Swearingen, Pillars for the Park Director. "I have been getting so many nice comments from the community. Everyone like me is so happy that the grant was given to local people. Especially in the crazy times we live in right now keeping everything local is awesome. So we're very grateful that it ended the way it did. We have so much faith in K.L. Wood. We got some great folks doing stuff for us."

Alliance City Manager Jeff Sprock also expressed gratitude to Pillars project donors in the community and throughout the United States.

"Due to all those contributions and the grant we got from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development the city has enough money to go ahead with the Pillars for the Park project...Sunken Garden restoration," said Sprock. "We're hoping that construction will get done by the end of the year. We have a design that I think will serve the city well."

Sprock went on to say that the new design will have a stage for events like weddings and concerts; new landscaping; raised garden beds; and close to 60 pillars.
