KEARNEY – Caleb Wiseman of Plattsmouth and Courtney Cox of Alliance are the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s 2024 homecoming king and queen.

They were crowned Thursday evening during a ceremony at the Health and Sports Center on campus. UNK’s homecoming royalty are selected by two rounds of student voting.

Cox is a senior studying business administration with emphases in finance and accounting. She’s been involved on campus as a resident assistant, Chancellor’s Ambassador, New Student Enrollment leader and Honors Program member. Cox also competes with the Future Business Leaders of America chapter and plays the flute in the UNK Wind Ensemble.

Wiseman is a junior studying 6-12 math education. He’s involved in LoperCatholic, the Honors Program, UNK Student Government and campus intramurals. Wiseman also serves as a resident assistant and math and statistics tutor, and he was a New Student Enrollment leader last summer.

UNK’s other homecoming royalty finalists were Olivia Lawless of Aurora, Sydney Owen of Kearney and Lily Seibert of Kearney. King candidates were Lance Haberman of Utica, Joey Orellana of Cozad and Shawn Peterson of Sint Maarten.

Wiseman and Cox will also be recognized during the homecoming parade scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Kearney and the UNK football game set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Cope Stadium.

With cooler temperatures arriving to our region and fall weather upon us, a lot of people are taking advantage of our great outdoors. We are seeing an increase all around the community in people walking, running and working outside with their families and their animals. We also are receiving complaints about animals being off leash while walking with their owners and at large off their property where they reside. We have had reports of animals aggressively going after other animals that are being walked and in some instances of dogs aggressively going after people walking or running by as well. We would like to remind everyone of our City Ordinances in order to ensure everyone can enjoy the great weather and outdoors safely.

City Ordinance 6-204 RESTRAINT; OWNERS DUTY: The owner shall keep his or her dog under restraint and shall not permit the dog to be at large.

City Ordinance 6-205 RUNNING AT LARGE; OWNERS DUTY: It shall be unlawful for the owner of any animal or the owner of any property where an animal resides within the City to allow that animal to run at large within the City.

City Ordinance 6-101 DEFINITION: AT LARGE: Any dog or other animal not confined by an adequate fence or on a leash either tied to a stationary object or held by a competent person on public or private property.

City Ordinance 6-101 DEFINITION: RESTRAINT: A dog or any other animal is under restraint within the meaning of this chapter if it is controlled by a leash or chain held by a competent person, on or within a vehicle being driven or parked on public property, or within an adequate fence on the property limits of its owner or keeper.

We would ask that all pet owners follow these ordinances for the safety of our fellow community members enjoying the outdoors. These ordinances are in place for everyone’s protection and for the protection of the pets as well. Nobody wants to see an animal get hit by a vehicle. Everyone should be able to walk, run and recreate without fear of being chased or bitten by a stray animal or an animal that is off leash.

On October 11, 2024. The Chadron Police Department was alerted to a stolen motor vehicle travelling west into Chadron from the east on Highway 20 with New Mexico license plates. The vehicle was identified as a gray 2018 Audi Q3. Officers began searching for the vehicle and observed a vehicle matching the stolen vehicle at a local restaurant in Chadron. Chadron officers asked for assistance from the Dawes County Sheriff’s Office and together the officers and deputies made contact with the vehicle in the parking lot of the restaurant. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time of contact.

Chadron police officers entered the restaurant and contact a three people inside eating, who advised they had been occupants of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 22- year-old Ramon Romero of Taos Pueblo, New Mexico. During the investigation, officers learned Romero had two warrants for his arrest out of New Mexico.

As a result, Romero was placed under arrest and transported to the Dawes County Jail. Romero was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, (Class IIA Felony), Possession of Marijuana less than an ounce (Infraction) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Infraction).

Additionally, Romero was arrested on multiple warrants for his arrest out of New Mexico.

The Chadron Police Department received assistance from the Dawes County Sheriff’s Office with this investigation.

Launched in 2023, the initiative aims to connect Nebraska’s sustainably produced commodities with growing global market demand. Our mission is simple but critical: to ensure Nebraska’s agriculture is seen as the most sustainable ag supply chain in the world. Full Value Agriculture’s efforts focus on helping producers achieve economic profitability through sustainable practices and recognizing Nebraska as a leader in agricultural innovation.

As we celebrate our first year, I’m excited to share the progress we’ve made with the help of ag leaders across the state and our plans to further empower Nebraska’s producers.

Laying the foundation: Milestones from year one

The foundation of Full Value Agriculture was laid in Kearney, Nebraska, at the Governor’s Agricultural and Economic Development Summit in August 2023. At that summit, Full Value Agriculture was introduced as an initiative that would serve as a bridge between Nebraska producers and the global demand for sustainable commodities. Since then, we’ve been hard at work ensuring our vision becomes a reality.

One of the most significant accomplishments that we were a part of came in August 2024 when Gov. Pillen secured $307 million in federal funding through the state’s Priority Climate Action Plan and Implementation Grant application. This funding will provide vital resources to producers as they adopt sustainable agricultural practices and continue to contribute to Nebraska’s leadership in the agricultural sector. The collaborative effort involved leaders from agricultural organizations across the state, and we’re proud to have played a role in defining the strategy and securing these funds.

But our work didn’t stop at securing funding. Throughout the past year, we’ve engaged in critical discussions about the future of Nebraska’s agriculture. In December 2023, we convened agricultural leaders from across the state to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing our producers. The conversations focused on how best to position Nebraska’s agriculture for long-term success in a rapidly changing world.

Additionally, we traveled to communities like Alliance and North Platte in early 2024 with members of the governor’s team to gather public input on Nebraska’s climate action plan. These discussions helped shape a comprehensive strategy for our state’s agricultural and energy needs, ensuring that the voices of Nebraska’s producers were at the forefront of our efforts.

As we move into our second year, the future of Full Value Agriculture is bright. We’re dedicated to continuing our mission to support Nebraska’s producers through four key pathways:

Nebraska is Uniquely Positioned to Lead the World in Sustainable Agriculture

CHADRON – Chadron State College alumnus Dr. Jake Kirkland Jr. of Lincoln will be honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award.

He will receive the award during CSC's&nbsp;<a href="https://www.csc.edu/news/2024/csc-shows-winning-hand-for-casino-night-homecoming.html">Homecoming</a>&nbsp;on Oct. 19.

Kirkland earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1973 and a master’s degree in Educational/Counseling Psychology from the University of Nebraska—Lincoln in 1981. His dissertation studied college students’ perceptions of classroom experiences and environments as related to Diversity and Multiculturalism. Kirkland earned a doctorate in Adult Education with an emphasis in Community and Human Resources from UNL in 2002.

He began his career in the Office of Career Services at the University of Nebraska-Omaha as a Career Counselor from 1981 to 1986. From 1986 to 1987, Kirkland was an advisor and counselor where he provided academic advising for undergraduate students and personal, social, career, and mental health counseling for undergraduates, graduates, and staff.

At UNL’s Counseling Center from 1986 to 1992, he helped students with academic, personal, social, and career-related issues and concerns. He became the center’s coordinator from 1991 to 1992. He was also a counselor with UNL’s Career Planning and Placement Services from 1992 to 1993.

After serving as the Assistant Director of&nbsp;Career Services from 1992 to 2014, Kirkland became the Interim Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs from 2015 to 2016. During this time, he also served as the Interim Director of the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center and Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services.

Kirkland’s professional affiliations include the Nebraska Counseling Association. He was a member from 1977 to 2016 and chaired the Human Rights Committee from 1994 to 2015.&nbsp;He has been a member of several other state and national associations affiliated with career and academic counseling.

He has received more than 30 honors and awards related to his professional and volunteer work. Kirkland’s scholarly contributions include articles about job seeking and resume advice for high school seniors.

He has presented, co-presented, or participated in panels at numerous leadership, counseling, and college admissions symposiums. He has also given talks about goal-setting to elementary and middle school children.

Additionally, Kirkland has assisted in planning and organizing conferences related to multicultural counseling, academic success, diversity, career exploration, and institutional team building.

In his community, Kirkland has been a member of the Lincoln Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People from 1988 to the present and served on the Voter Registration Outreach Committee from 2019 to the present. He has assisted with the annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther Youth Rally for nearly 20 years. He has also been a volunteer with Cornhusker State Games and Big Brothers and Sisters.

Recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award must have attended CSC for at least two years or earned at least 60 hours and have demonstrated exceptional service to the college and distinguished themselves in their career or their community through volunteer efforts.

Chadron, Nebraska – October 9, 2024 - Chadron Community Hospital is responding to a nationwide shortage of intravenous (IV) fluids caused by the temporary closure of Baxter’s manufacturing plant in Marion, North Carolina. The plant, which supplies 60% of the country’s IV solutions (approximately 1.5 million bags daily), was severely impacted by damage from Hurricane Helene, disrupting the supply chain across the healthcare system.

Background Baxter is actively working to repair the damage and is exploring alternative production sites to mitigate the impact of the shutdown. However, until full operations resume, health care facilities that rely on Baxter, including Chadron Community Hospital, have been placed on a 40% allocation. This means only 40% of our recent quarterly orders will be delivered. Additionally, other suppliers have put customers on allocation to manage existing inventories, though efforts are underway to ramp up production.

Assessment The disruption in IV fluid supplies is likely to affect patient care nationwide. All healthcare providers, including Chadron Community Hospital, are being asked to implement conservation strategies. While conservation measures are necessary, our top priority remains patient safety.

Community Impact Chadron Community Hospital is taking proactive steps to manage our current IV fluid supply while ensuring we maintain high standards of care. These measures may include postponing elective procedures that require IV fluids and exploring alternative treatments to protect the supply for critical and emergency care needs.

The projected timeline for the shortage is currently three months, but we will review our inventory on a weekly basis. Decisions regarding scheduled procedures will be made with patient safety in mind, and patients with upcoming elective procedures may be contacted by the hospital. We encourage anyone with concerns to reach out to Chadron Community Hospital with any questions.

Chadron Community Hospital responds to nationwide IV fluid shortage

North Platte, Neb.&nbsp; — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, has arrested three people following a pursuit and search near Gothenburg on Tuesday.

At approximately 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, troopers were notified that a Kia Soul was being sought in connection with a stolen property investigation in Lexington. A trooper then saw the vehicle on Interstate 80 headed westbound. The trooper attempted a traffic stop near mile marker 219. The vehicle began to slow down, but then accelerated and fled at a high rate of speed. The trooper initiated a pursuit.

The Kia fled westbound, with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. The driver exited I-80 at the Gothenburg interchange and began traveling north into town. The trooper discontinued the pursuit out of concern for public safety. A short time later, another trooper saw the same vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 30. Another pursuit began and the vehicle fled northbound on Road 409, west of Gothenburg. The pursuit continued until the vehicle came to a stop in a field several miles northeast of town. The two occupants then fled on foot.

Troopers and deputies utilized drones, an NSP K9, and an NSP Aircraft to search the area. The two subjects were eventually located on a nearby farmstead and were taken into custody.

The driver, Steven Conner, 37, of Omaha, was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, obstructing a peace officer, criminal mischief, numerous traffic violations, and outstanding warrants. The passenger, Skyanne Christensen, 24, of Omaha, was arrested for obstructing a peace officer, criminal mischief, and an outstanding warrant. Troopers discovered that a third occupant has been dropped at a farmhouse just west of Gothenburg. That person, Kayla Tatum, 29, of Omaha, was located walking along Highway 30 and arrested for obstructing a peace officer.

All three were lodged in Dawson County Jail.

Harrisburg, Neb. - School officials at Banner County made a public announcement on Monday evening that the Banner County Wildcats will forfeit the remainder of the 2024 NSAA football season. The decision was made due to safety concerns.&nbsp;

Banner County official statement below regarding the decision to cancel the remainder of the season:

"Due to our inability to safely field a team, we have made the decision to forfeit the remainder of the varsity football season. This was a difficult decision made after careful consideration. We thank our student athletes and coaches for their efforts and community for their support of Banner County football."

The Wildcats had 11 kids on their roster and have been dealing with injuries throughout the season. Banner County finishes the season at 0-5.&nbsp; This marks the second time in just over a week that a Nebraska high school team has cancelled the remainder of their season. Back on October 1st, Southern Valley (Oxford) made the announcement to cancel the rest of the season due to low numbers.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Before the 2024 season began, Chadron State football had big expectations for transfer quarterback DJ Ralph. An injury in the season opener set things back a few weeks, but Ralph made good on his promise last Saturday with a fantastic and flawless performance against Adams State, which has earned him the RMAC's Offensive Player of the Week award from the conference office.   

Ralph completed 20 of 29 passes for 183 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions through the air, then added 56 net rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground to lead Chadron State in the Eagles' 52-3 win over the Grizzlies.  

The Californian's four total touchdowns were the most of anybody in the RMAC this week. Ralph completed touchdown passes of eight yards to Grant Swenson, one yard to Rollin George III and 22 yards to Jamahd Monroe, then provided the most electrifying play of the day with his legs by scampering for a 41-yard rushing touchdown on a read-option keeper. Ralph's 41-yard run was the longest play from scrimmage of the season for Chadron State in 2024.

With Ralph at the forefront, Saturday's game was a coming out party for the offense as a whole. The Eagles scored 52 points, more than doubling their season total of 38 entering the game. Chadron State put up season-highs in both passing (183) and rushing yards (234) and finished the contest with three passing, three rushing and one defensive touchdown.

Ralph, who has appeared in three of CSC's five games, has completed 26 of 41 total pass attempts for 213 yards this season and has yet to turn the ball over. He is also averaging 3.5 yards per carry with his legs, as he has 60 net yards on 17 attempts. With 29 pass attempts against Adams State, Saturday was by far his most extensive action of the season, as he threw just three passes before getting hurt against Nebraska-Kearney and nine passes against Colorado Mesa while splitting time with Wyatt Sprague.

Chadron State football has now completed the trifecta of weekly awards, with one win across each category over the last three weeks. Two weeks ago, safety Dax Yeradi won the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week award before punter Brodie Eisenbraun nabbed the Special Teams Player of the Week honor last week.

Through six weeks, Chadron State's three award wins are the third-most of any RMAC school, trailing only CSU Pueblo (five) and Colorado Mesa (four) and tied with Colorado School of Mines (three).

With three award wins on the season, CSC has already exceeded its totals from the past two seasons, when the Eagles won two awards each year. Tommy Thomas (offensive) and Hunter O'Connor (defensive) took home one award apiece in 2023 while 2022 saw a defensive win from O'Connor and a special teams win from former Eagles kicker Gunnar Jones.

Chadron State (2-3, 1-2 RMAC) is on the road this weekend against New Mexico Highlands (0-5, 0-3 RMAC), with kickoff set for noon in Las Vegas, New Mexico. The following weekend, on October 19, CSC will host Fort Lewis for the annual homecoming game at 1 p.m. from Elliott Field. The Skyhawks are 1-4 this season, with an 0-3 record in RMAC play.

Kally Kirkwood led Chadron State with 12 kills and had a .444 hitting percentage while Alondra Hernandez had 19 digs. As a team the Eagles .307, had 56 kills, and 10 errors. The Yellow Jackets hit .156 as a team, with 51 kills, and 26 errors.  

In the first set, the Eagles went on a 4-0 run to open up a 8-4 lead taking advantage of back-to-back attack errors. The Eagles extended their lead to 12-7 after back-to-back kills by Mataya Ward and an error by Yellow Jackets. A service error and kill by Carsyn Mettler stopped the damage, but three attack errors by the Yellow Jackets maintained the Eagles lead making the score 15-9. The Yellow Jackets found a way to close the lead after 2 errors and a kill by Mettler. However, a 3-0 run helped the Eagles pull ahead 24-18. A kill by Alejandra Briseno ended the first set 25-19. 

The Yellow Jackets took the lead early in the second set, after a service error they responded with three kills, one by Carsyn Mettler and two by Abigail Renner to make the score 4-0. A kill by Bella Adams started a 6-0 run for the Eagles, during that run Rylee Ward contributed three aces making the score 7-5. The Eagles maintained the lead until the Yellow Jackets when on a 5-0 run taking the lead 15-14. However, the Eagles took back the lead after going on an 8-0 run with four kills from Briseno and three kills from Kirkwood making the score 24-17. A service error ended the set 25-19 Chadron State.  

The third set started off close until the Yellow Jackets pulled ahead 15-11. After a kill from Kirkwood the Yellow Jackets responded with three kills from Mettler and an ace Ellie Thomas to make the score 19-12 Black Hills State. The Yellow Jackets maintained the lead for the rest of the set.  A kill by Mettler ended the set 25-21 Black Hills State.  

The Eagles jumped to a 6-2 lead in the fourth set, using three errors and a kill from Aiyana Fujiyama to help build that lead. A 4-0 run extended the Eagles lead 17-10. A kill by Kirkwood ended the fourth set 25-13. 

The Eagles are now (4-10) overall and are 0-4 in RMAC play. The Yellow Jackets improved their record to (3-9) and 1-3 in conference play. 

Chadron State will take the court Oct.11 at 6 p.m. against UCCS. The Mountain Lions are 7-6 and 2-2 in RMAC play.

LINCOLN, Neb. - The No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team swept the Iowa Hawkeyes 25-17, 25-11, 25-13 on Sunday afternoon at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in front of a crowd of 8,667.&nbsp;

In their 11th straight win, the Huskers (14-1, 4-0 Big Ten) hit .404 and held Iowa (8-8, 2-2 Big Ten) to .155.

Nebraska had seven aces and just one service error. The last time the Huskers had at least seven aces with one or fewer service errors was Nov. 12, 2017 against Rutgers (nine aces, one error). Lexi Rodriguez had three of NU's aces to go with a match-high 12 digs.&nbsp;

Merritt Beason led NU offensively with 10 kills on .400 hitting and added five digs. Leyla Blackwell had a season-high nine kills on .692 hitting, and Rebekah Allick had nine kills and hit .583 with three blocks. Harper Murray added seven kills on .353 hitting with two aces. Lindsay Krause chipped in five kills on six swings (.833) all in the third set.&nbsp;

Bergen Reilly contributed 35 assists, and Kennedi Orr and Laney Choboy each had five digs.&nbsp;

The Huskers did not surrender an ace to the Hawkeyes. NU's last eight opponents have combined for just seven aces.&nbsp;

Michelle Urquhart led Iowa with 11 kills on a .269 hitting percentage.

Set 1: Blackwell notched three kills and a solo block to propel the Huskers to an 8-4 lead. Iowa brought the score to 10-10 before Rodriguez went to the service line and sparked a 4-0 run for NU that included kills by Beason and Murray and an ace by Rodriguez. A Reilly kill and Murray ace put the Big Red up 18-12 and forced a Hawkeye timeout. Beason scored her fifth kill to give Nebraska set point, and Allick put down an overpass to close out the 25-17 set victory. NU hit .333 and sided out at a 77.8% mark.&nbsp;

Set 2: Behind an ace from Rodriguez and kills from Murray and Blackwell, the Huskers took a 6-2 lead. Five straight errors from Iowa stretched the advantage to 11-3. Two kills from Landfair and one from Allick powered a 4-0 run to put the Big Red up 16-6. Kills by Murray and Beason and Rodriguez’ third ace of the match extended Nebraska’s lead to 22-9. NU finished out the set, 25-11, with two kills by Blackwell and one by Reilly. Through two sets, Nebraska’s middles combined for 16 kills and no errors for a combined hitting percentage of .800.&nbsp;

Set 3: A Beason kill and solo block, Krause kill and Reilly ace were part of a 5-0 run to put NU up 13-5. Krause notched two kills and Murray registered an ace and a kill to help give the Huskers a 22-12 lead late in the third. A Krause/Allick block and an Allick solo block closed out the set, 25-13, and the match, 3-0.

Huskers rout Hawkeyes, 3-0

CHADRON, Neb. – Chadron State football scored 52 points, more than doubling its season total, as the Eagles soared to a 52-3 win over Adams State from Elliott Field at Don Beebe Stadium Saturday afternoon.

A 21-point second quarter got the Eagles off and running, allowing CSC to improve to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in RMAC play. Adams State falls 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the RMAC.

The Eagles led 28-0 at halftime, outgained the Grizzlies 417-99 and came away with three interceptions while not turning the ball over. Seven different Eagle players found the endzone, led by quarterback DJ Ralph, who completed 20 of 29 passes for three touchdowns and no interceptions while also racking up 56 yards and a rushing touchdown on the ground.

Grant Swenson, Rollin George III and Jamahd Monroe all caught touchdowns from Ralph, while former First Team All-RMAC receiver Tommy Thomas caught a game-high six passes for 33 yards in his return to the lineup from an injury in the season opener.

The Eagles received rushing touchdowns from Jake Marschall, Chase Nelson and Ralph as part of a 234-yard day on the ground for the team. The defense also got in on the scoring, with linebacker Logan O'Brien running in a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Both teams combined to go three-and-out on the first three drives of the game, with Adams State punting twice and the Eagles once. On CSC's second drive, the Eagles drove 41 yards on nine plays, with Ralph hitting Garet Schlabs for a key third-down conversion before hitting Grant Swenson over the middle for an 8-yard touchdown pass to put the Eagles up 7-0.

In the second quarter, Ralph fed Rollin George III, who made a 10-yard catch to give Chadron State first and goal before scoring on a jet-sweep shovel pass moving from left to right to make it 14-0, Eagles.

With six-and-a-half minutes left in the first half, the CSC pass rush forced Adams quarterback Alexander Grado to throw early out of a sack. Junior linebacker Logan O'Brien corralled the floating pass and ran down the near sideline for a score, the first defensive touchdown of the season for Chadron State.

On CSC's next drive, Ralph kept the ball on a read option, breaking two tackles and scampering for a 41-yard rushing touchdown to make it 28-0 before the half. The 41-yard run is the longest of the season so far for a Chadron State rusher.

The Eagles picked up where they left off after halftime, taking the opening second-half kickoff and putting together an 11-play drive that ended in a Wilson Yee field goal. On the ensuing Adams State drive, a Grado pass took a huge deflection off the helmet of a Chadron cornerback and went all the way back towards the line of scrimmage, where All-RMAC defensive tackle Tanner True made a diving interception to give the Eagles the ball back.

Chadron took advantage of the short field, scoring on three plays when Ralph hit Jahamd Monroe in stride for a 22-yard passing touchdown in the end zone. With the grab, Monroe joined Swenson as the only CSC offensive players with multiple rushing or receiving touchdowns in 2024.

Adams State scored a field goal, but Chadron State answered with its longest drive of the day in terms of plays, going 76 yards in 14 plays. The Eagles relied heavily on the run, as Jake Marschall got six carries on the drive, including a 1-yard touchdown run.

The final Eagles score of the day came on an 8-yard carry courtesy of Chase Nelson, a redshirt freshman running back who went off for a career-high 48 rushing yards on eight carries and 46 receiving yards on three catches. Entering the game today, Nelson had no career carries and one reception for four yards.

Chadron State's defense competed the entire game, holding Adams State to eight first downs, 54 rushing yards and 45 net passing yards. Redshirt freshman defensive back Jahmir Everett snared his first career interception in his second career game with six minutes left.

The Eagles' 49-point margin of victory is their third largest ever against Adams State, trailing a 52-0 win in 2000 and a 58-0 in 2007.

Chadron State is on the road next week against New Mexico Highlands, who lost 67-20 to nationally-ranked CSU Pueblo on Saturday. In two weeks on October 19, the Eagles will play Fort Lewis at home as part of homecoming weekend.

Chadron State cages Grizzlies 52-3

DAMASCUS —U.S. forces conducted a series of air strikes Friday against multiple ISIS camps in Syria on Friday, according to a statement from the U.S. Central Command.

Officials reported early Saturday they conducting battle damage assessments. Early indications suggested there were no civilians casualties.

"The strikes will disrupt the ability of ISIS to plan, organize and conduct attacks against the United States and its allies and partners and civilians throughout the region and beyond."

The Command reported they would released additional details as they confirm more information.

There are some 900 U.S. forces in Syria, according to the Associated Press along with an undisclosed number of contractors.

US launches airstrikes on terrorist camps in Syria

Students Invited to Dream Big with “Look to the Future” Art Challenge Sweepstakes

United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced Michael Reis, age 29, of Omaha, Nebraska was convicted by a jury on October 9, 2024, in federal court in Omaha&nbsp;for distributing fentanyl that resulted in the death of a 4-year-old.&nbsp;United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher presided over the trial.

On March 12, 2022, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) Deputies were dispatched to the Aspen Grove apartment complex for an unresponsive 4-year-old. Upon arrival, deputies began CPR until an ambulance could take the child to Children’s Hospital and Medical Center. The child was later pronounced dead due to fentanyl toxicity.&nbsp;

DCSO crime scene investigators, laboratory technicians, and fentanyl overdose investigators assisted in the investigation. Michael Reis was eventually identified as a person of interest.&nbsp; On March 27, 2022, Reis was arrested on an outstanding warrant. A search warrant was executed on Reis’s phone which detailed an extensive history of selling pills to the child’s mother.&nbsp; Messages found in Reis’s phone from March 12, 2022, showed that Reis delivered a pill to the child’s mother and that Reis received digital payment from her.
