City Manager Finalists Meet and Greet Scheduled in Alliance

Alliance City Council Special Meeting Agenda, Feb. 19

The road across Sherman Reservoir Dam will be closed temporarily starting Feb. 16 for repair work on the dam.

Recent favorable weather will allow contractors for Farwell Irrigation District to begin concrete repairs on the face of the dam ahead of the peak recreation season.

During the project, which is expected to last one to two weeks, Sherman Dam Road will be closed from 791st&nbsp;Road to 792nd&nbsp;Road. Those planning to access the Marina Bay boat ramp or Trade Winds Marina should take 790th&nbsp;Road east, then 480th&nbsp;Road north, then 792nd&nbsp;Road.

All park areas on the south side of Sherman Reservoir State Recreation Area will be accessible during this closure.

The District appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during the project.

Road Over Sherman Dam to Close Temporarily

LEXINGTON &amp; OGALLALA, Neb.&nbsp;- Accompanied by state senators Teresa Ibach and Paul Strommen, Governor Jim Pillen made stops in central and western Nebraska on Thursday. The trip was two-fold: a visit to Lexington for an update in the aftermath of the closure of Tyson Foods and to award funding for road surfacing projects that will benefit Lake McConaughy.

The first stop for the group was in Lexington, where they were joined by Department of Labor Commissioner Katie Thurber and representatives from the Lexington School Board, Lexington City Council, Lexington Regional Health Center, Lexington Community Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce. During the meeting, Gov. Pillen told attendees that he continues to have conversations with Tyson leadership concerning the future of the beef processing facility. Community leaders shared information about some of the challenges and needs they have noted since Tyson ceased operations at its plant in January, affecting more than 3,000 workers. &nbsp;

Gov. Pillen and Commissioner Thurber reiterated state resources that continue to be available to those workers, especially unemployment and Medicaid benefits. The state has a dedicated hotline (308-407-1517) that is available with language support for anyone with questions about unemployment insurance, job placement, job search, training, and connections to services provided through the Department of Health and Human Services.

“This remains a full team effort to assist Lexington during this time,” said Gov. Pillen. “We want to make sure that communication is getting to the right people and that they have the tools they need to support their community. The feedback we receive is invaluable, as it helps us to seek out new avenues of help and potential partnerships or philanthropic sources that could play a role in this recovery.”

Meeting representatives shared their continued optimism about the ability of their community to move forward, despite the impact of the closure. In fact, they say many of the people they have talked to want to remain in Lexington. Representatives from Central Community College shared that they have been engaged in retraining displaced workers and there are plans to initiate additional programs in the future.

Later in the afternoon, Gov. Pillen and the team were joined by Game and Parks Director Tim McCoy at the edge of Lake McConaughy to sign a program statement that promises $16 million in appropriations to the agency for infrastructure development. The funding will permit surfacing projects to get underway on the south side of Lake McConaughy.

Currently, those roads are narrow and difficult to navigate by pickup trucks and vehicles hauling large boats and campers. Over time, traffic has continued to increase, as those roads provide access to an area of the lake where people can offload their boats, even when water levels are low.&nbsp; The funded upgrades will provide improved and much safer travel and access to boat ramps and campgrounds, including when planned yearlong construction on Kingsly Dam takes place.

“These funds represent an investment in a major tourist destination for our state. Keith County attracts visitors from across the state and beyond. This is an opportunity to spur tourism, economic growth and create convenience for those who enjoy boating, fishing and recreating at Big Mac,” said Gov. Pillen.

It’s expected the 10-mile paving project will be completed in December 2028.

Pillen, State Leaders Part of Lexington Leaders Meeting, Big Mac Announcement

ALLIANCE, Neb. - Anticipating rain Friday, the Daytona 500 was the race on many Americans’ minds. Students from several Alliance Public Schools elementary classrooms could almost taste the pepperoni and gooey cheese as they sought their own checkered flag in the Pizza Party Recycle Race.

Keep Alliance Beautiful Education Coordinator Emma Steffy organized the contest to promote recycling and environmental awareness. Offered to K-8 Box Butte County students, only classrooms at Emerson and Grandview elementary schools in Alliance accepted the challenge.

Whichever two classrooms collect the most plastic bottles and aluminum cans between February 9 and 20 win a pizza party on KAB. The competition has been lively, at Emerson in particular, netting more than two pickup loads the first week. For example, the bags I weighed from on trip this past Thursday totaled 54 pounds for Ms. Heinz, 48 pounds for Ms. Topil, 11 lbs for Ms. Ferguson and nine pounds for Ms. Coupons. Originally, Emma counted each bottle or can before the volumes took off.

“It’s easier to see the difference (for students) when you see it in physical form. (Then) they see how we need to change,” she said. “(I hope they are) learning how important recycling is and how they can help the environment.”

Through this contest and Emma’s BlackOps program with third graders the goal is to inform and promote lasting stewardship. The message received by students can also be a catalyst for families. Hillary Hunter, property manager at Heartland Flats, decided to help her son Cullen’s class at Emerson in their quest for pizza. She’s originally from Austin, Texas and grew up recycling. Her family members are “big nature enthusiasts” who go hiking and camping in the summer. “I tell them to leave it better than they found it.”

She placed recycling containers around the property with signs saying it was for her son’s contest. “They have been filling them up faster than I can get rid of it,” she said.

KAB has sponsored similar contests before with complaints that it is unfair when materials come from outside the household. I disagree. Anyone should be able to tap family and friends or a parent’s workplace. Chances are at least some of that haul would not have been recycled and the enthusiastic spirit may convert a non-recycler or two. So far the bulk generated at Emerson alone has been amazing.

Hillary said her son has been helping bag up the recycling. He made sure his mom knew how competitive his teacher is and that “she hates losing.” She said that Cullen has gotten a lot of high fives from the tenants who have asked if “we could do this year round.” She is interested. Keep Alliance Beautiful plans to coordinate with Heartland Flats to accept and pick up recyclables.

Although KAB currently serves both Highland Park facilities and Wildflower Terrace we have not partnered with any traditional apartment building management. The closest model was community totes for public housing in Hemingford – discontinued several years ago. Pizza can open the door for more people to recycle and highlights how Keep Alliance Beautiful serves the community. Good luck to all the students as they finish the race! If only the motivation were as simple on a national scale for a cleaner, greener America.

COLUMN: Pizza An Incentive To Sustain Recycling

Alliance City Council Meeting Agenda, Feb. 17

THEDFORD, Neb. — In a village of 195 people tucked into the Nebraska Sandhills, five United States Postal Service crates were carried into a kindergarten classroom.

Cards. Packages. Stickers. Candy. Postcards. School supplies. Souvenirs.

One student looked at the growing stack of mail and shouted, “Holy cheeseballs!!”

Kindergarten teacher Dawn McFadden laughed. She had hoped for 20 cards.

Instead, her first year in the classroom has turned into something she said she could have never predicted.

“I had been thinking about doing the project for several months,” McFadden said. A teacher in another Nebraska district tried something similar last year and described it as “wildly successful.” McFadden thought it would be something fun to attempt during her first year teaching.

She created a flyer, sent it home with students and posted it on her own social media page. The goal was simple: collect Valentine’s Day cards from all 50 states and show her kindergarteners that the world extends far beyond rural Nebraska.

“There weren’t any certain conversations,” she said. “I feel as an educator it’s important to broaden my student’s horizons of different culture, people, places and things. Our world is a very interesting place.”

If 20 cards arrived, she would have considered it a success.

Within two weeks, more than 300 had come in. Students colored in a United States map as each state was represented. Soon, the entire country was filled in — multiple times.

“There were 5 USPS crates full of cards and packages, all being carried into our classroom,” McFadden said. “It was crazy!”

Inside were handwritten notes from strangers encouraging students to study hard, listen to their teacher and remember they matter.

“People have been so caring,” she said. “I’m very touched by people taking time out of their lives to send a card to us.”

The class has now received cards from all 50 states — multiple times — and from 20 countries.

The reach, however, did not happen by accident.

Elle Worley, a digital creator with more than 20,000 followers on her account, Tails From the Prairie, at the time of posting, partnered with McFadden to amplify the classroom’s request online. Originally from Northern Virginia near Washington, D.C., Worley now lives in rural Nebraska and says she feels strongly about using her platform to highlight small communities.

“I’ve always said that if I ever had an audience online, I would use it to amplify topics and stories that matter to me,” Worley said. “Small towns are full of great people and their powerful stories but they don’t always have the reach. If I can be a bridge between places and help connect people, I will. It’s important to me to remind people that there are meaningful stories in rural America, too.”

She began sharing videos about the kindergarten class on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. On Instagram alone, videos related to the project have received more than 650,000 views. Across platforms, the total has climbed even higher.

For comparison, that is more than 3,300 times the population of Thedford.

Worley said she believed the class could reach all 50 states. She did not expect the international response or the wave of generosity that followed.

“I did not expect people to start sending packages from around the world or to buy out Dawn’s Amazon teacher wishlist…multiple times,” she said. “That part exceeded my expectations.”

One video featuring her rescue dog, Juni, helped push the project even further. Juni previously went viral after Worley shared her rescue story online, creating a loyal audience.

“I had so many comments saying they were sending cards ‘because of the dog,’” Worley said. “I think she might have been the real influencer in this situation.”

Comments flooded in asking where to send cards. Other teachers said their classrooms wanted to participate. People from across the country — and around the world — mailed cards and packages to a kindergarten classroom in the Sandhills.

“We’ve heard from people across the country and around the world who said they loved being part of something positive,” Worley said. “I think people felt like this was something real and safe that they could get involved with and make a difference.”

For students in Thedford, the experience quickly became a living geography lesson. They located countries on a globe as international mail arrived. They talked about distance, animals and different cultures. Other grades stopped to admire the growing display.

“Last week I overheard a couple 5th grade boys break out in the ‘state song’ in the hallway when they went by our map,” McFadden said.

The class shared treats and goodies with the entire school, which serves just 65 students preschool through sixth grade.

The district hosted a card reception, inviting parents and community members to view the display of cards and packages. In a town of 195, it became a point of pride.

“The parents, community and everyone are really excited,” McFadden said.

Worley believes the project resonated because it offered something tangible during a time when much of the world feels overwhelming.

“The world feels really heavy right now,” she said. “There’s so much difficult news, and it can feel like the problems are so vast that there’s nothing you can actually do. This project gave people something tangible. They could write a card, send a letter, mail a package, and know they were making a difference for children.”

Perhaps most surprising, she said, is how many adults reached out saying the project encouraged them too.

“I went into this hoping it would help the children,” Worley said. “I didn’t expect it to have a double impact.”

For McFadden, the experience has been unforgettable.

“It’s been unbelievable to see the response of so many people willing to send a small, rural class a Valentine,” she said. “It has turned into something I could’ve never predicted.”

Despite the overwhelming success, she does not plan to continue the project beyond Valentine’s Day.

“Although it has been a remarkable project, I need to focus on getting our classroom back to normal,” she said. “I think this was a luck of the draw with social media. I’m not certain the pattern is repeatable.”

When asked what she hopes her students remember years from now, her answer was simple.

From a village of 195 to more than 650,000 Instagram views and 20 countries around the globe, a partnership between a first-year teacher and a digital creator proved that even the smallest classroom can reach the world.

In a town of 195, it became a point of pride.“The parents, community and everyone are really excited,” McFadden said.Worley believes the project resonated because it offered something tangible during a time when much of the world feels overwhelming.“The world feels really heavy right now,” she said. “There’s so much difficult news, and it can feel like the problems are so vast that there’s nothing you can actually do. This project gave people something tangible. NE Republican Party Opens Delegate Registration

The Alliance Police Department announces the apprehension of a male suspect wanted on a nationwide extradition warrant for First Degree Assault, a felony offense originating out of Westminster, Colorado.

In the past 48 hours, credible intelligence was received by the involved agencies indicating the suspect was present in the Alliance area. As a result, the Alliance Police Department and the Western Intelligence Narcotics Group (WING) began conducting surveillance within Alliance and successfully located the individual.

On the morning of 02/12/2026, at approximately 0650 hours, officers with the Alliance Police Department, in conjunction with the WING drug task force, conducted a traffic stop near 3rd Street and Laramie Avenue. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Anthony Lee Smith, date of birth 07/19/1982, who was confirmed to have an active nationwide extradition warrant for Felony First Degree Assault.

Smith was apprehended without incident and transported to the Box Butte County Jail, where he was lodged pending extradition proceedings back to Colorado. 

During the arrest, Smith was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Additional charges related to those offenses are pending.

“This arrest highlights the importance of strong partnerships and information sharing between local, state, and federal agencies,” said Sergeant David LaDuke of the Alliance Police Department. “Through coordinated efforts and proactive investigative work, we were able to locate and safely apprehend a dangerous individual while keeping our community and officers safe.”

This apprehension was the result of coordinated efforts between the Alliance Police Department, the Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI’s Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force (RMSSTF), and WING. The Alliance Police Department would like to thank all partnering agencies for their cooperation and continued commitment to public safety.

The North Platte Natural Resources District held its annual Ag Symposium on Tuesday, February 10th, at the Gering Civic Center. During the event, the District presented the third annual Outstanding Conservation Award to Tom Case.

The award recognizes individuals or businesses that demonstrate strong stewardship of natural resources and a commitment to long‑term sustainability. Tom Case was selected for his decades of practical, hands‑on work that has directly supported conservation efforts in the City of Minatare and the surrounding area.

Tom recently retired as the Utility Supervisor and Emergency Manager for the City of Minatare, a role he began in 1986. Throughout his career, he worked closely with the NRD on a variety of conservation‑related projects and infrastructure improvements. Whether the task involved water system upgrades, tree management, or other community needs, Tom consistently approached each project with a willingness to collaborate and offer straightforward, constructive input.

His work has had a lasting impact on the community. Tom played a key role in removing hazardous and dying trees and helped plant hundreds more over the years, contributing to both public safety and long‑term environmental health. His involvement with the Volunteer Fire Department and his steady commitment to the city reflect a career built on reliability and service.

CHADRON — The Graves Lecture Series will begin later this month at Chadron State College. The series, which is free and open to the public, is a forum for speakers of many interests and disciplines. Since 2006, the series has included presentations about a wide variety of historical, cultural, artistic, and scientific areas. Each presentation this semester will be at 6 p.m. in the Sandoz Center’s Chicoine Atrium.

The series opens Feb. 24 with Justin Haag, Panhandle regional editor for Nebraskaland magazine, who will present Nebraskaland Magazine: 100 Years of Inspiring Outdoor Adventure. Haag will highlight the magazine’s century-long history and discuss how it continues to promote outdoor recreation, conservation, and public lands. Through photography and writing, Haag promotes natural resources and outdoor activities for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s flagship publication.

Haag has been an editor with the magazine since 2013 and previously worked for 12 years in communications and marketing at Chadron State. A native of southwestern Nebraska, Haag earned a journalism degree from CSC in 1996 and lives in Chadron with his wife, Cricket.

The March 19 lecture will feature Conor P. Casey, a trial lawyer with Beardsley, Jensen &amp; Lee in Rapid City, South Dakota, who will present Who Decides What’s Reasonable? Casey will examine how the legal concept of reasonableness is used to resolve conflict and how it often reflects deeper issues of power, judgment, and human experience. Casey represents individuals in complex civil litigation, with an emphasis on civil rights, Federal Tort Claims Act litigation, and workers’ compensation.

A Rapid City native, he earned degrees in English and comparative philosophy from CSC while playing football, completed his MBA at CSC, and graduated from the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law.

The series concludes April 23 with CSC Art Professor Mary Donahue, who will present Art?! Get Out! Twenty Plus Years of Learning and Exploring Outside the Classroom with Students. Donahue will share stories and photographs of museums, galleries, and outdoor experiences CSC students have explored beyond the classroom and reflect on what those experiences taught her and the students.

Donahue is an artist, designer, and writer who grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and moved west at age 18. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and advertising design and a Master of Fine Arts in painting from Utah State University and has worked in advertising, publishing, and university research before joining the CSC faculty.

CHADRON, Neb. – Chadron State College student Gabriel Broussard has been chosen as the Project Strive/TRiO Student of the Month for January 2026.

Broussard is a junior from Aurora, Colorado, studying business administration with a minor in marketing. He is also a wide receiver for the Eagles’ football team.

CSC has felt like home to Broussard since he first visited campus. He was originally nervous coming from a city to a small town but quickly saw the benefits of a tight-knit community, like Chadron.

“The people here are great. Everyone cares about you; they want to see you win and they want to see you grow and succeed,” Broussard said.

He plans to attend a police academy and become a state trooper after earning his degree. While shadowing a Nebraska sheriff who is also a family friend, Broussard discovered his love for the fast pace and excitement of the job.

“He was the whole inspiration for me. I got to see how everything goes down: the scary stuff, the cool stuff, and helping people out. All of it resonated with me,” he said.

Broussard has started the police academy application process, hoping to take the next steps in securing his career this summer.

Among the faculty at CSC, Broussard has developed a connection with Associate Professor Markus Jones. Although Broussard was only enrolled in a few writing classes with Jones, his impact was long-lasting.&nbsp;

“He was more than a teacher. He really cared about me,” he said.

As a first-generation college student, Broussard finds Project Strive a helpful resource. Particularly, he enjoys having a place to get away from any chaos to focus and study in the basement of the King Library.&nbsp;

“Going to college, I wanted to make sure that I was doing everything right. Project Strive provided that guidance,” Broussard said. “They are people you can talk to and trust.”

Chadron State College’s Project Strive/TRiO program, located in the lower level of the King Library, is an academic enrichment program committed to help students succeed. Project Strive also focuses on career exploration, cultural and social enrichment, and self-awareness. To be eligible for the program, a student must be one of the following: A first-generation student where neither parent has a four-year degree, meet low-income status based on U.S. Department of Health and Human Services criteria, or have a documented disability.

Broussard Named Student of the Month at CSC

ALLIANCE, Neb. – ACE, the Public Alliance for Community Energy, is distributing $22,801 to the City of Alliance as its share of $400,000 being distributed through ACE’s revenue return program to the 75 Nebraska member communities of the not-for-profit, community-owned natural gas commodity supplier.

Since forming in 1998, ACE has returned more than $4.7 million to Nebraska communities, with over $331,000 to Alliance. The funds are used in various ways to benefit each ACE member community, including helping fund community recreational projects, community swimming pools, and park improvement.

ACE was formed in 1998 by Nebraska communities to provide competition in the Nebraska Choice Gas program while retaining local control and striving to keep revenue in Nebraska’s ACE member communities. ACE also serves as an advocate for Choice Gas customers.

Safer Internet Day is a worldwide initiative to deliver tips and programs to build safe online practices. The effort began in 2004 and includes information for teachers, schools, and families on how to teach safe internet usage for kids.

“It’s incredibly important for parents to stay involved in their kids’ online presence,” said Sgt. Peter Rutherford, Commander of the Nebraska Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. “Keeping the lines of communication open between parents and kids about how to stay safe online can be the determining factor in preventing victimization. Be aware that there are online predators, but there are also tactics you can use to keep your kids safe.”

This year’s Safer Internet Day features several topics, primarily focused on discussions and training related to AI. NSP encourages all internet users to keep safety in mind as they conduct their online activity. NSP Encourages Important Conversations on Safer Internet Day

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) has been awarded $15 million in Congressional Directed Spending (CDS) through the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) section of the FY26 Consolidated Appropriations Act. Across the state as a whole, $93.4 million was appropriated to improve mobility.

Dollars appropriated to NDOT will support three projects, including the 38th Street viaduct in Omaha, improvements to U.S. Highway 136 (US-136) in Fairbury, and the Chadron North project on U.S. Highway 385 (US-385). 

NDOT was awarded $5 million to help fund the 38th Street viaduct project, located on U.S. Highway 275 (US-275), also known as L Street. The funding will be used to replace an existing viaduct that carries four lanes of traffic and pedestrian access between 42nd and 36th street. The 38th street viaduct serves as a vital route for South Omaha, connecting local businesses, schools, neighborhoods, parks and meat processing facilities central to Nebraska’s agricultural economy. The structure supports regional and national freight along a critical corridor that connects communities across the Missouri River and supports both local travel and the movement of goods throughout eastern Nebraska.

$4 million was awarded toward improvements to US-136 in Fairbury. The project will replace aging concrete pavement and reconfigure the highway into a three-lane roadway with a center two-way left-turn lane. This change will result in several safety improvements that reduce conflict points, provide sidewalks on both sides of the roadway for pedestrians and bicyclists, and will encourage lower driving speeds. It will also make navigating intersections safer for traffic coming from side streets.

Improvements to Chadron North on US-385

NDOT was awarded $6 million toward improvements to the Chadron North segment of US-385. The improvements include upgrading 17 miles of highway to a Super-2, developing a two-lane resurfaced roadway with paved shoulders and additional passing lanes, intersection reconstruction, and bridge repairs. The addition of passing lanes will improve the connectivity and benefit regional commerce between Chadron and South Dakota, while also improving operations, safety, and reduce delays caused by truck volumes and rolling terrain.

“Each of these projects addresses real needs across Nebraska, from aging bridges to highway improvements” NDOT Director Vicki Kramer said. “We appreciate the Nebraska congressional delegation’s support in securing these funds, specifically Rep. Don Bacon and Senator Deb Fischer. Their efforts will help NDOT deliver improvements that enhance safety and economic opportunity for years to come.”

In addition to securing statewide funding, NDOT has also played a crucial role in helping individual communities secure CDS grants. The Nebraska Infrastructure Hub (IHub) supports local agencies who compete for CDS grants by providing letters of support, assisting with applications, and, if grants are awarded to local agencies, managing those grants on their behalf.

The IHub worked directly with Sheridan County in securing almost $3.5 million for a road rehabilitation project. The county reached out to the IHUB interested in a congressional delegation for their project. The IHUB assisted them with their application and provided a letter of support. The project will rehabilitate a 28.5 mile rural corridor; the route connects residents, ranching operations, and emergency services to Nebraska Highway 2 (N-2) and Nebraska Highway 87 (N-87) improving safety and connectivity for the community.

Grants appropriated to Nebraska airports are also developed with support from NDOT. At the request of airport sponsors, NDOT Aeronautics supports the development of Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) projects that address long-standing, safety-critical infrastructure needs.

Nebraska has received over $121 million in transportation-related congressional delegations from 2022-24, bringing the total awards since 2022 to over $214 million.

Effective Jan. 1, this collaboration establishes formal interview guarantees and dual-degree programs across a wide range of medical disciplines. Under the new agreement, CSC students who meet specific academic benchmarks — including GPA and standardized test requirements — are guaranteed interviews for several of DMU’s competitive graduate programs. This includes opportunities in:

A highlight of the partnership is the 3+3 program for the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD). This pathway allows qualified CSC students to begin their studies at DMU after their junior year, concurrently earning credit toward both their undergraduate degree at CSC and their doctorate at DMU. Additionally, one seat in the OTD program is reserved annually for the most competitive applicant from CSC.

Similar concurrent credit opportunities are available for students interested in the Master of Public Health and Master of Health Care Administration programs, allowing up to 22 credit hours to be transferred back to CSC.

Chadron State College, Des Moines University Announce Strategic Educational Partnership

LEXINGTON, Neb. — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol have arrested a Colorado man after locating 116 pounds of marijuana processing material during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Dawson County.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Sunday, a trooper observed a westbound vehicle speeding on I-80 near mile marker 238. During the traffic stop, the trooper detected a marijuana odor coming from the vehicle.

 </figure>LEXINGTON, Neb. — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol have arrested a Colorado man after locating 116 pounds of marijuana processing material during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Dawson County.At approximately 2:30 p.m., Sunday, a trooper observed a westbound vehicle speeding on I-80 near mile marker 238. During the traffic stop, the trooper detected a marijuana odor coming from the vehicle.A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 116 pounds of marijuana resin, wax, and vape. Also located were items for processing marijuana into smaller portions. Dawson County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search.The driver, Dylan Worrall, 24-years-old, of Colorado, was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession of drug paraphernalia, and no tax stamp. He was lodged in Dawson County Jail.
