ALLIANCE, March 25, 2024—According to the new ratings from the Insurance Services Office, Inc., The Alliance Fire Department is among the top 15 percent of fire departments in the country and the top 3 percent of fire departments in Nebraska regarding fire suppression capabilities. In addition to making the Alliance area residents feel safer, the higher rating can translate into more affordable property insurance." 

A lot of challenging work went into achieving this newest rating. It was a team effort put forth by our firefighters and Alliance City Council, City Administration, and Alliance Rural Fire District board members," said Alliance Fire Chief Troy Shoemaker. "Over the last few years, we have upgraded equipment, purchased and installed our live-fire training facility, and started developing the training grounds, improving our training program. Those efforts, combined with those of the Alliance Public Safety Communications Center and Public Works with our water distribution system, significantly improved our rating. We are already considering how to maintain our new rating." 

The Insurance Service Office (ISO) evaluates and classifies more than 40,000 fire protection areas across the country, analyzing how each district performs on water supply, emergency communications, needed fire flows, and the equipment, staffing, and training of fire departments, among other factors using their Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). ISO then assigns a Public Protection Classification (PPC) from 1 to 10. Class 1 represents superior property fire protection, and Class 10 indicates that area's fire suppression program does not meet their minimum criteria. 

The Alliance Fire Department's newest ISO-issued PPC is 03/3Y, making it one of just 3,856 Class 3 fire departments in the U.S. and one of just 24 in Nebraska. Alliance's previous PPC was 04/4Y."I applaud the efforts of Chief Shoemaker, the Alliance Fire Department, Alliance Public Works, and the Alliance Public Safety Communications Center for continually improving the quality of our emergency services," said Alliance City Manager Seth Sorensen.  Typically, fire insurance costs in a community with a highly rated fire department under the ISO classification are lower than in a community with a poor PPC grade. Swim lessons schedule in Alliance announced

MARCH 24, 2024 (NORTH PLATTE, NEB.)&nbsp;&nbsp;— The Nebraska Department of Transportation and the Nebraska State Patrol are urging travelers to be prepared for dangerous winter driving conditions expected over the next few days. A winter storm will impact much of the state beginning tonight.

The National Weather Service is projecting several inches of snow across western and central Nebraska, with strong winds and bitterly cold temperatures. A Blizzard Warning has been issued for an area ranging from southwest to northcentral Nebraska, effective from 7:00 p.m. CT today through 1:00 a.m. CT Tuesday.

“This winter storm will create dangerous driving conditions across a large portion of our state,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Our troopers and dispatchers are prepared to help, but before you attempt to travel during this storm, please consider whether travel is absolutely necessary.”

Do not attempt to travel in blizzard conditions. Travel may be difficult to impossible. Should you become stranded, it may be impossible for help to reach you until the blizzard ends.

If travel is necessary, check the Nebraska 511 system for valuable information regarding travel across the state. Motorists can view live cameras to assess conditions, view a map of road conditions throughout the state, check live radar to see the storm’s current location, view the locations of NDOT plows on the road, and access many more features.

“NDOT’s snowplow crews will be out as the conditions allow it but the public are reminded to slow down, wear your seat belt and never pass a plow if you choose to travel,” said NDOT Director Vicki Kramer.&nbsp;

NDOT will treat roads as appropriate, taking into consideration the different variables that could be present in the varying types of precipitation predicted in this storm.

Last week, Owen Burnett announced that he has resigned from the position of Executive Director of the Alliance Chamber of Commerce.

Burnett, an Alliance native had been in the position for ten months and told Panhandle Post that he resigned due to some health concerns. He also said he was grateful to serve in the position and that it has been one of his life's honors to lead the Chamber.

"I would like to extend my deepest thanks to my Board of Directors and the Alliance community for all their continuous support, everyone has had my back since day one and I could not have done the job without all of your input and caring."

Burnett says that he and his family plan on staying in Alliance, as the Board of Directors begin their search for an Executive Director.

CHADRON – Chadron State College students and faculty will now benefit from a $120,000 Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The SEM was purchased from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund approved by Congress as part of the 2020 CARES Act. The state-of-the-art equipment&nbsp;can reveal the elements making up a specimen and produce images with more realism than typical microscopes.

The microscope works by bombarding the specimen with electrons, which only works in a vacuum. And to prevent buildup of electrical charge on the specimen, it must be coated with metal, if it is not already conductive.

Dr. Mike Leite, Professor of Physical Science, said the equipment will help students develop skills that potential employers want.

“You can think of applications in industry, law enforcement, environmental research, all of those, across the board. So many fields need another problem-solving skill, and that’s what our students can learn with this microscope,” he said.

He said the ability to collect different types of data and analyze it requires different thought processes.

“The more opportunities we can give our students to collect a wider array of data and then determine how to interpret that, the stronger their creative problem-solving and creative skills are going to be. Students will be able to integrate what they learn with this across all the sciences,” Leite said.

Dr. Joyce Hardy said the SEM will significantly expand the amount and type of research CSC students and faculty can conduct.

“The ability to visualize surface materials with great resolution as well as to analyze chemical element distribution and composition of samples will have significant application for medical, environmental, biological, and ecological research with direct application to our region,” Hardy said.

The SEM was purchased from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund approved by Congress as part of the 2020 CARES Act. The state-of-the-art equipment&nbsp;can reveal the elements making up a specimen and produce images with more realism than typical microscopes.The microscope works by bombarding the specimen with electrons, which only works in a vacuum. And to prevent buildup of electrical charge on the specimen, it must be coated with metal, if it is not already conductive.Dr. Mike Leite, Professor of Physical Science, said the equipment will help students develop skills that potential employers want.“You can think of applications in industry, law enforcement, environmental research, all of those, across the board. So many fields need another problem-solving skill, and that’s what our students can learn with this microscope,” he said.He said the ability to collect different types of data and analyze it requires different thought processes.“The more opportunities we can give our students to collect a wider array of data and then determine how to interpret that, the stronger their creative problem-solving and creative skills are going to be.  CSC Science program receives Scanning Electron Microscope

Chadron, Neb., March 21, 2024— Managers of public lands in the Pine Ridge are planning to conduct prescribed fires in the region, including one that may be the region’s biggest ever.

Conditions pending, the Pine Ridge Ranger District of the Nebraska National Forest and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will collaborate to conduct a burn of an estimated 1,700 acres about 10 miles south of Chadron by the end of March. The area includes land between U.S. Highway 385 and Deadhorse Road, including the western portion of Chadron Creek Wildlife Management Area, three Forest Service pastures and some private land.

"Even with this being the largest known prescribed fire on the Pine Ridge, the burn is broken into several smaller sections with defendable fire lines. This will allow fire managers to stop and hold it in the event of changing conditions on the ground," said USFS Pine Ridge District Ranger Tim Buskirk. 

Should there be an unforeseen weather event, fire managers have safeguards in place. Fire personnel will be on scene, patrolling and observing the burn unit until no smoke is visible. These patrols become more frequent if conditions change unfavorably. Officials note that wildfire was an important part of Great Plains ecology before Euro American settlement and that suppression since then has been understandable but problematic.

 Low-intensity prescribed fires help remedy the situation. The benefits include the incineration of underbrush and other material that could make a wildfire extremely hazardous and destructive. It also will combat the invasion of undesirable plant species while enhancing vegetation for wildlife habitat and grazing.&nbsp; 

Fire can help set back dominating non-native cool-season grasses such as smooth and downy brome, for instance, and promote the growth of other plants that provide better nesting, loafing and brood-rearing cover. The pending fire also will reduce the countless dead pines in the area from the 2012 wildfires that have hindered access for noxious weed control and recreation.

 Before ignition, prescribed fires must meet strict requirements for weather conditions and forecasts, fuel moisture, smoke dispersal and staffing. If conditions allow, land managers will tackle more than a half-dozen other smaller prescribed fires this spring. A burn of about 85 acres occurred at Chadron Creek Ranch WMA on March 19. Other Game and Parks properties include Bordeaux, Ponderosa and 

Peterson wildlife management areas. The Forest Service is considering fires at two other locations on its properties — one about 5 miles south of Chadron and the other 7 miles southeast of the city, known as the Slicker and Collins allotments.

The goal is to raise awareness among farmers and agricultural workers about the importance of safety when working in and around grain bins. This initiative also emphasizes the significance of overall safety practices on the farm.

As Nebraska farmers strive for innovation and higher yields, there has been a notable increase in on-farm storage. According to the USDA NASS report in 2023, there were over 890 million bushels of corn stored on Nebraska farms, an increase of 31% from 2022. Nebraska soybeans also saw a 39% increase over 2022 with 87 million bushels of soybeans stored on Nebraska farms.

An increase in on-farm storage means more risk for accidents associated with grain handling and bin storage. NCB and NSB encourage farmers and those in the agriculture industry to stay focused, planned and safe during “Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week” and throughout the year.

“Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week” takes place from March 25 to 29 and is organized through a collaboration between the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the U.S. Department of Labor, the National Grain and Feed Association, the Grain Elevator and Processing Society and the Grain Handling Safety Council.

In 2022, at least 42 grain bin entrapments were reported in Nebraska, the highest in a decade. It takes merely four seconds for an adult to sink to knee-deep in the suction of flowing grain, and within 20 seconds, they can be completely engulfed. NCB and NSB encourage those who work in and around grain bins to have a plan in place for safety and to properly learn safety steps. With proper safety procedures, grain bin accidents are preventable.

The only true way to help reduce the risk of grain entrapment on your farm or facility is to strongly discourage people from entering a bin unless&nbsp;it’s absolutely necessary.&nbsp;If necessary, follow these seven steps aimed at grain bin safety.

 <li>Ensure all equipment and power sources for grain handling equipment have been shut off, secured or properly locked.</li><li>The person entering the grain bin must wear a safety harness and lifeline attached and properly secured, or be seated in a boatswain chair - a device that allows a person to suspend from a rope to perform work in high places.</li><li>Wear an appropriate dust mask or respirator when entering grain bins. Grain bins contain substantial amounts of dust and/or mold and present a hazard to workers.</li><li>Never enter a grain bin alone.</li><li>There must be an observer located outside of the grain bin that is able to monitor the person inside the bin.</li><li>Ensure the observer and person in the bin can easily communicate.</li><li>Ensure that rescue resources are available if the person does become entrapped.</li>

Nebraska farmers promoting Grain Safety week

“Look at the bug dance!” said a young boy as he placed the solar powered bug under an incandescent light. “He takes a nap now!” he said after placing the same bug under a fluorescent light. He may not be old enough to understand the words, but he just learned a lesson in infrared energy.

“Did you hear me? What did I say?” said members of the Walton Family. They took turns trying on the special “big ears” experiment. The family learned that some animals, like dogs, with funnel style ears can hear distant sounds. Their ears point in one direction and collect sound just like a lens collects light. On Saturday, the Walton Family got to hear just like those animals, and it was as if they gained a new superpower.

These lessons were taught by Merle “Misty” Brave and Jesse Pina, professors from Oglala Lakota College on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. They brought their Little Shop of Physics to Agate Fossil Beds National Monument last Saturday March 16th in celebration of Science Education Day.

This was the second year the duo provided science fun at the monument. The Little Shop of Physics uses resources originally developed by Colorado State University, Fort Collins. Brian Jones, director and founder of the program at CSU, worked with OLC professors to set up their own program over a decade ago and has been partnered with them ever since. “The big message is that science is accessible," Jones said. "The stuff we do is exciting, it’s fun, it’s engaging.”

"The relationship between Agate Fossil Beds and the Oglala Lakota tribe goes back to long before the monument was established," Tera Lynn Gray, Lead Interpretive Ranger, explained. "In 1875, the young owner of Agate Springs Ranch, James H. Cook, met the Oglala chief Red Cloud at Fort Robinson. The chief was questioning the American paleontologist O.C. Marsh about his activities in the Black Hills. Since Mr. Cook knew some of the Lakota language and Plains Indian Sign Language, he was able to interpret for them."

The National Park Service now preserves and interprets the gifts exchanged between the Red Cloud and Cook families over the following decades and the fossils Cook found at his ranch at the Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, 34 miles north of Mitchell, Nebraska.

"This event was just one way Agate tries to maintain and grow that friendship started between Cook and Red Cloud so long ago," Gray said.

LINCOLN – National Ag Week is March 17-23, and it’s the perfect time to highlight and celebrate agriculture, Nebraska’s number one industry.&nbsp; To add to this week’s celebration, the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) is announcing the winners of its annual poster contest. Students in grades 1-6 from all over the state submitted colorful posters depicting this year’s theme, “Ready, Set, Grow!”

“National Ag Week is a chance to give thanks to farmers, ranchers, and the agriculture community for providing the food, fuel, and fiber that we rely on every day,” said NDA Director Sherry Vinton. “The students who participated in this year’s contest recognize and appreciate how agriculture impacts our everyday lives. Youth outreach efforts, like our annual poster contest, help instill a deep appreciation for agriculture in future generations.”

NDA announces the winners of its annual poster contest during National Ag Week to highlight the diversity of Nebraska agriculture and to celebrate the food, fuel, and fiber that farmers, ranchers, and ag industry workers provide. The winning posters and the names of the schools submitting entries are on NDA’s website at nda.nebraska.gov/kids.

“NDA teammates always look forward to the poster contest and are amazed at the large number of talented, young artists in Nebraska,” said Vinton. “All the posters we received are winners in our eyes, and I’d like to thank everyone for participating. Gordon Elementary student Hope Kling recognized in NDA Poster contest

University of Nebraska Medical Center Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, and Regional West Health Services CEO Mel McNea signed a master affiliation agreement March 19 at the hospital.

The agreement will enable UNMC health professions students to do critically important clinical rotations at Regional West. It is an outgrowth of a longstanding partnership between UNMC and Regional West. Current UNMC students doing rotations at Regional West include allied health professions, medical, nursing and pharmacy. Under the new agreement, additional students&nbsp;will be able to rotate through Regional West and the Scottsbluff community.

“With this new affiliation agreement, we are thrilled to continue and expand our relationship with UNMC for our clinical students. This agreement enables even more UNMC students to do clinical rotations at Regional West. It is important for students to experience and deliver health care in the western end of the state,” McNea said.

Dr. Gold said he was excited about the new agreement.

Tom Brewer's First Freedom Act  passes state Senate

The Yonts Water Conference will be held on Wednesday, April 10, at the Panhandle Research, Extension, and Education Center, in Scottsbluff. The morning begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration.

The conference will begin at 9 a.m. with Dr. Xin Qiao, Nebraska Extension water and irrigation management specialist. He will discuss ways to improve irrigation efficiencies and give a research update on new irrigation technologies.

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation personnel will provide an update on the snowpack and expected runoff in the Upper North Platte River Basin. The information is critical for downstream water users planning their estimated irrigation water use and crop planting. Approximately 75 percent of the North Platte River flow comes from this area above Casper, Wyo.

Representatives from HDR Engineering and the Goshen Irrigation District will present an update on the progress of replacing Tunnel No. 1 and Tunnel No. 2, which collapsed and caused a breach of the canal in 2019. Both tunnels are in Wyoming on the main line canal of the Goshen / Gering-Ft. Laramie Irrigation districts. Yonts Water Conference coming up in April in Scottsbluff

&nbsp;Nebraska has agreed to a contract extension with Head Women’s Basketball Coach Amy Williams, as announced by Interim Athletic Director Dennis Leblanc and University of Nebraska Interim President Chris Kabourek on Wednesday.

The new contract with Williams, who has guided Nebraska to three NCAA Tournament appearances including its second in the past three seasons, extends through the 2028-29 season and will pay the Husker coach $950,000 next season, with annual increases in each of the subsequent contract years.

“I would like to thank Interim President Dr. Chris Kabourek, Interim Athletic Director Dennis Leblanc and Executive Associate Athletic Director Keith Zimmer for their consistent leadership for our athletic department and our University as a whole,” Williams said. “I am grateful for their confidence in our leadership and the direction and vision we have for our program. There is a lot of momentum with Nebraska Women’s Basketball, and we are eager to keep chasing excellence. I am greatful for the dedication of our coaching staff, the hard work and commitment of our players, and the unwavering support of our amazing Husker fans.”

Nebraska enters Friday’s NCAA Tournament game against Texas A&amp;M with a 22-11 overall record and a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Albany 1 Regional, after fighting its way to the championship game of the 2024 TIAA Big Ten Tournament at the Target Center in Minneapolis, March 10. The Huskers fell to NCAA Tournament No. 1 seed Iowa in overtime, just a month after knocking off the AP No. 2 Hawkeyes in front of a sold-out crowd of more than 15,000 at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Feb. 11.

“Coach Williams has an excellent track record of success in leading our program on the court, including postseason tournament trips in each of the last four seasons,” Leblanc said. “Coach Williams takes great pride in representing the University of Nebraska as an alum, and she sets a standard of excellence for our student-athletes on and off the court. Our women’s basketball program continues to produce a 100 percent graduation success rate every year and helps set the standard in community service and outreach for our department.”

Sorensen talks Alliance Council meeting, discusses Police Station

The National Weather Service (NWS) encourages everyone to be “Weather-Ready” as this spring season begins. All of the NWS offices serving Nebraska, in conjunction with the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, aid in this effort by hosting a Severe Weather Awareness Week the last week in March each year.&nbsp;

Individuals, families, businesses, partners, schools, and media are all encouraged to review their severe weather preparedness plans so we can become a “Weather-Ready'' nation. When severe weather is anticipated, follow trusted sources for updated forecast and warning information, such as the National Weather Service and media partners. Here are two key ideas to keep in mind:&nbsp;

• Outside: When severe weather is possible, limit outdoor plans or finish them early. Stay close to a sturdy shelter. If caught outside, find shelter in a sturdy building immediately. If you are caught outside in a tornado and no sturdy shelter is available, find shelter in a ditch and cover your head for protection. If traveling in a car, drive away from the tornado. If you cannot drive away, or if you become trapped, lie in a ditch and cover your head. Do not take shelter under a highway overpass, where wind speeds can increase due to tunneling effect.&nbsp;

• Home or business: Your primary concern is to put as many walls between you and the severe weather as possible and to go to the lowest floor of the building. Remember to stay away from doors, windows, outside walls and protect your head. Bicycle helmets are great at protecting your head. Be sure to plan in advance to store your helmets in your shelter. Blankets and heavy quilts are also great at protecting your head and body. If in a mobile home, leave well in advance of the approaching severe weather and go to a sturdy building.&nbsp;

Nebraska Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 25-29, 2024

According to the preliminary results of the 2024 Nebraska Farm Real Estate Market Survey, the market value of agricultural land in Nebraska increased by five percent over the prior year to an average of $4,015 per acre. This marks the third consecutive year of increases in the market value of agricultural land in Nebraska, setting another high in the non-inflation-adjusted statewide land value in the survey's 46-year history.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Department of Agricultural Economics annually surveys land industry professionals across Nebraska, including appraisers, farm and ranch managers, agricultural bankers, and related industry professionals. Results from the survey are divided by land class and summarized by the eight Agricultural Statistic Districts of Nebraska.

The 2024 preliminary results revealed that most of Northwest Nebraska’s agricultural land values were higher for the February 1, 2024, reporting year. The northwest region includes Banner, Box Butte, Cheyenne, Dawes, Deuel, Garden, Kimball, Morrill, Scotts Bluff, Sheridan, and Sioux counties. The average farmland value in the region is estimated to be $960 per acre, which is three percent higher than the previous year.

Table 1 reports the eight major types of land reported in the survey and the average value of each type for the Northwest region. Table 2 shows the reported cash rental rates for various types of land. Values are reported in dollars per acre unless otherwise noted. Actual agricultural land values or rental rates for an individual parcel will vary from reported figures depending on the area’s quality attributes and local market forces.

Land industry professionals responding to the annual survey attributed the rise in Nebraska agricultural real estate values to purchases for farm expansion, current livestock prices, 1031 tax exchanges, the amount of land offerings for sale, and as a hedge against inflation.

Cropland rental rates moderated across Nebraska in 2024. Survey responses indicated lower crop prices have led to the reported changes and moderation in cropland cash rental rates. Favorable crop yields across the United States in 2023 have increased grain stocks and brought grain prices down from near-record levels. Input prices for seed, fertilizer, and chemicals have leveled off but remain elevated for specific key inputs.

Pasture and cow-calf pair rental rates trended higher across Nebraska in 2024. Rising grazing land cash rental rates follow higher cattle prices with the decline in national inventories. Cash rental negotiations should include early removal provisions when accounting for drought considerations for the upcoming growing season.

Actual agricultural land values or rental rates for an individual parcel will vary from reported figures depending on the area’s quality attributes and local market forces.Land industry professionals responding to the annual survey attributed the rise in Nebraska agricultural real estate values to purchases for farm expansion, current livestock prices, 1031 tax exchanges, the amount of land offerings for sale, and as a hedge against inflation.Cropland rental rates moderated across Nebraska in 2024. Survey responses indicated lower crop prices have led to the reported changes and moderation in cropland cash rental rates. Favorable crop yields across the United States in 2023 have increased grain stocks and brought grain prices down from near-record levels. Input prices for seed, fertilizer, and chemicals have leveled off but remain elevated for specific key inputs.Pasture and cow-calf pair rental rates trended higher across Nebraska in 2024. Rising grazing land cash rental rates follow higher cattle prices with the decline in national inventories. Cash rental negotiations should include early removal provisions when accounting for drought considerations for the upcoming growing season.

Engaging Agriculture: UNL releases preliminary farm real estate market survey results

The Northwest Nebraska region has submitted nominations for the second annual tourism industry awards, presented in three categories: Business/Attraction of the Year, Frontline Employee of the Year, and Tourism Volunteer of the Year.

The winners will be announced at the fourth annual Treasure Chest of the Northwest tourism industry workshop, scheduled for April 4 at the Dawes County Fairgrounds. Doors will open at 5 p.m., with the event set to start at 5:30 p.m. The evening will include a brochure swap, networking opportunities, a local business perspective by Valerie Homrighausen of Prairie Agate Rock Shop, and presentations on collaboration, the 2023 tourism season and more.

Anyone working in the tourism industry in Dawes and Sioux counties is invited to attend. RSVPs are due to director@discovernwnebraska.com or 308-432-3006 by March 29.

Chadron State Park: Chadron State Park is Nebraska's first state park, established in 1921. The park celebrated 100 years in 2021 and has a annual celebration each June with music, vendors, food and lots of kid activities. The park attracts an annual visitation of over 400,000 people a year, with roughly half coming from in-state and half out-of-state. The park provides a huge economic impact to the community all year long, hosting hunters in the shoulder seasons and ark visitors for camping and activities during the summer. Chadron State Park is a hidden gem, but we are happy to share it with all visitors.

Runza: I absolutely love going to the Runza Restaurant in Chadron, NE - not only is their food wonderful, but I thoroughly enjoy ALL of their employees. They are super nice, welcoming, always in good moods, and remember me and what I want to order. They are always super helpful and nice to all of those people who visit and order food, no matter if they are local or are visiting "tourists." It is definitely a place that anyone can stop by and feel like the people who work there "make their day." Jackson - the manager - really keeps all his people going and in a very positive mood. I look forward to stopping by there even just to say "hi!"

Carrie Frahm: Just stepping into the Perk Up Coffee place - one feels very welcome and wanted. It is such a pleasure to talk to Carrie Frahm whether it is ordering something or letting her know what is going on around the area so that she can share it with her customers, too. The place is great to look around with the historical photos on the wall or when Carrie has an event in there such as during the Crawford Cattle Call. I definitely believe the Carrie deserves the Frontline Employee of the Year Award.

Cody Kronhofman: Cody Kronhofman works at Wild's and is a fantastic front line staff member. He not only brings a tenacious attitude to the situation, he is quick, he cares about his guests and the business he is working with and it shows by the hospitality that he brings to the table. Cody always remembers exactly what I like to drink for lunch, the additional items that I really enjoy with my meal that I don't

even have to request at this point; he just remembers and makes it happen. He is wonderful at ensuring he greets guests when they arrive and walk into the establishment and treats everyone like a local.

Debbon Shields: Debbon Shields is the new office manager at Chadron State Park. She has been revamping the gift shop with new and improved items, along with making it look great with new paint and carpet. She has been working with local businesses to provide products for our gift shop. Her customer relations is excellent and that is also true for the employees she works with. Debbon has been a huge asset to the park and we are very fortunate to have her.

Willow Davies: Willow Davies, an employee at Wild's is a wonderful front line worker who shows her diligence through urgency in how she moves within the restaurant that she works. Willow has a great memory and usually does not have to write down your order. Not only that, she is able to remember folks "go to" meal on a regular basis, making us here feel like we have a true local sense of belonging. Willow is very speedy, precise, and detailed. She has great customer service skills that translates over within hospitality and how she works with each guest that come in to dine.

Randy Kane: Randy Kane is an AWESOME volunteer!!! He volunteers out at The Museum of the Fur Trade and every time I go out there, especially with Upward Bound High School Students, he gets them engaged with his presentation and scavenger hunt, throughout the museum including the outside teepee and original site of the Fur Trade Store. Randy is extremely knowledgeable about a great many historical events, people, items - artifacts in the museum that he makes it an adventure every time we visit.

This is the Biden administration’s attempt to get rid of the internal-combustion engine without congressional authority.&nbsp;Together, we will be introducing Congressional Review Act legislation to overturn Biden’s EV mandate. Congress must take action to keep vehicle costs down, protect our free-market economy, and defend consumer choice. We can’t allow Biden to make us more reliant on foreign adversaries like China who control the critical minerals needed for electric vehicles.“This rule just doesn’t work. Access to a vehicle is a&nbsp;pathway out of poverty for tens of millions of working-class Americans. Biden’s rule will make it harder for them and all Americans to buy and maintain a vehicle. This rule will also create an energy and supply-chain crisis. We lack the power generation, infrastructure, and critical minerals needed to make Biden’s mandate work. Most importantly, current EV technology will not work for states like Nebraska or Alaska. Extreme cold, isolated communities, and&nbsp;long-distance drives will make car graveyards a reality across America.”Ricketts will be introducing the CRA for the light- and medium-duty vehicles rule. Sullivan will be introducing the CRA for the heavy-duty vehicles rule, expected to be finalized in the coming weeks. The CRAs will be introduced once both rules are finalized and submitted to Congress.BACKGROUNDTitle II of the Clean Air Act (CAA) addresses mobile (transportation-based) sources of air pollution emissions via the tailpipe by seeking to reduce pollutants from both on-road and nonroad vehicles (vehicle emission standards), as well as transportation (gasoline &amp; diesel) fuel. Within Title II, CAA section 202 provides the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with the authority to set emission standards for new motor vehicles.Beginning in 2010, EPA began to interpret CAA section 202 as providing the Agency authority to regulate greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions from cars and trucks. Between 2010 and the end of 2022, EPA had promulgated three rounds of GHG standards for light-duty vehicles covering model years 2012–2026, and two rounds of GHG standards for medium- and heavy-duty trucks covering model years 2014–2027.Light and Medium Duty Vehicles Rule:&nbsp;On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, EPA announced the&nbsp;“Multi-Pollutant Emissions Standards for Model Years 2027 and Later Light-Duty and Medium Duty Vehicles,”&nbsp;a proposed rule to reduce emissions from&nbsp;light-duty and medium-duty vehicles starting with model year (MY) 2027 through MY2032.&nbsp;In this rule, EPA is proposing&nbsp;multipollutant emissions standards for light-duty passenger cars and light trucks and Class 2b and 3 vehicles (“medium-duty vehicles”). EPA estimates that due to this proposal electric vehicles (EVs) will make up two- thirds of new vehicles by MY2032, a whopping 67 percent of overall vehicle production. In 2022, EVs accounted for a mere 5.8 percent of new cars sold in the US. The administration unveiled their finalized light and medium-duty vehicles rule today.Heavy Duty Vehicles Rule:&nbsp;On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, EPA announced the “Greenhouse Gas Standards for Heavy-Duty Vehicles - Phase 3” which&nbsp;would apply to heavy-duty vocational vehicles such as delivery trucks, refuse haulers, dump trucks, public utility trucks, transit, shuttle, school buses and trucks typically used to haul freight. These standards build on the Heavy-Duty NOx standards for MY 2027 and beyond, which EPA finalized in December 2022, representing the third phase of EPA’s Clean Trucks Plan. The administration is expected to unveil their finalized heavy-duty vehicles rule in the coming weeks.
