Chadron, NE – March 27, 2024 – Chadron Community Hospital &amp; Health Services has announced that its Board of Trustees has appointed Sean Wolfe as Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective March 27, 2024. This decision is part of the hospital’s ongoing commitment to ensuring effective leadership during this transitional period. It also allows Jennifer Brown, who has been serving as Interim CEO following the departure of our previous CEO, to resume her duties as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Mr. Wolfe will assume administrative responsibilities for the hospital, Prairie Pines Lodge, Western Community Health Resources, and Legend Buttes Health Services.

Sean Wolfe is the current CFO at Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska, and looks forward to helping Chadron during this time of transition as the Hospital fills its executive vacancies. He is originally from South central Nebraska and attended Chadron State for his accounting education. Following college, he worked in public accounting for nearly five years before becoming the controller, and eventually CFO, of the hospital in McCook, where he has been for over 15 years. Community Hospital in McCook has helped other hospitals in the region during times of transition and has long included in its mission the philosophy that, for the healthcare industry in rural America to be strong, we must be willing to assist each other whenever possible. These partnerships are beneficial for both facilities involved as ideas and best practices can be shared and valuable relationships are built.

In his role as Interim CEO, Mr. Wolfe will oversee all aspects of Chadron Community Hospital &amp; Health Services operations, working closely with our dedicated team to maintain the highest standards of patient care, safety, and satisfaction. He will also collaborate with the hospital’s Board of Trustees and Leadership Team to ensure continuity and stability during this transition. He will also maintain his status as CFO at Community Hospital in McCook.

CHADRON – Chadron State College will host a Behavioral Health Careers Day Tuesday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center. Social Work Assistant Professor Rebecca Fernau said the event is open to high school students, community members, and CSC students interested in behavioral health careers in the fields of counseling, social work, or psychology.

There is no cost to attend and lunch is provided to all who&nbsp;<a href="https://forms.office.com/r/Fw76dgZmjY" target="_blank">register</a>&nbsp;by Wednesday, April 3. In addition to providing participants with a firsthand glimpse into the world of behavioral health, faculty from the psychological sciences, social work, and counselor education programs will discuss pathways for students to enter behavioral health careers.

Associate Professor and co-director of Panhandle Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN) Dr. Tara Wilson said the event will provide a series of activities related to overall behavioral health, including a poverty simulation from 10 a.m. to noon, and an auditory hallucination simulation and wellness presentation from 1 to 2 p.m.

During the interactive poverty simulation, participants will assume identities of family members facing poverty. Tables with volunteer staff representing community resources and services will be available. The debriefing portion of the experience will involve participants discussing what they learned. Participants will be invited to share what they learned from the experience with family, friends, and contacts in the community.

Fernau said the poverty simulation will provide participants with insight and understanding into what it is like for individuals to navigate living paycheck to paycheck.

“The scenarios are realistic. These are things that families must deal with, particularly families living in the rural environment. This simulation sheds light on real challenges and helps correct some misconceptions,” Fernau said.

Wilson said the auditory hallucinations simulation will provide participants with the opportunity to complete a series of activities while hearing auditory voices. The experience is designed to increase empathy and understanding of those who experience auditory hallucinations. Most often hallucinations, auditory or otherwise, are associated with the diagnosis of schizophrenia, Wilson said.

Dr. Britt Helmbrecht, Associate Professor of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, and Campus Wellness Officer, will conclude the day with a presentation about how students can take care of their mental health as well as the career field of behavioral health.

“I'll stress the importance of self-care for success as a student and how those lessons will translate into their professional career,” Helmbrecht said.

This year as we celebrate March as Women's History Month, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of when women could get credit cards in their own names for the first time. The Fair Credit Opportunity Act was passed in 1974.

Under this law, it became illegal for financial institutions to discriminate on the basis of gender, as well as race, religion, and national origin. Lenders could not ask women if they were married. Women had the right to get checking accounts, bank loans, even credit cards.

Today women have more credit cards than men. Experian tells us that women average 4.5 credit card accounts compared to men with 3.6. There is no significant difference in credit scores.

Research from American University shows that women tend to use debt like credit cards to buy necessities, especially when they have financial downturns. Men, on the other hand, are more likely to buy luxury items with their cards.

Credit cards and banking rights haven't been the only financial hurdles women have faced in America. Prior to 1848, a woman could not sign legal documents like contracts. She could not own property, even if it was inherited. Her assets belonged to her father, and then transferred to her husband when she married.

In 1848, Congress passed the Married Women's Property Act, which allowed women to enter into contracts. Women could also receive inheritances and keep that money separate from husbands' financial obligations and debts.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott's call for social and legal changes led to the passage of the Married Women's Property Act. The two met in 1840 at an anti-slavery convention in London. They were excluded from the proceedings - as were all women. They became great friends and, in 1848, organized the first Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York. This is considered the beginning of the women's rights movement.

Fifteen years ago, Congress passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. Lilly Ledbetter sued Goodyear Tire, where she worked as a supervisor for nineteen years. When she neared retirement, she learned that she was being paid thousands less than male colleagues in the same position with similar seniority and experience. She filed a sex discrimination case against Goodyear, and initially won her case. The lawsuit eventually was appealed to the Supreme Court, which ruled against her because she did not file suit 180 days from the date of the discriminatory policy that led to her being paid less. Therefore, in 2009, Congress passed legislation that restarted the 180-day clock every time a discriminatory paycheck was received.

Even after the Lilly Ledbetter Act was passed, women in the United States who work full time, year-round are typically paid only 84 cents for every dollar paid to their male counterparts, according to the National Women's Law Center. This gap means women on average earn $9,990 less per year. This has improved significantly over the last two hundred years, but the fight for women's financial rights is still ongoing.

KEARNEY – University of Nebraska at Kearney students won six events and once again claimed the top chapter award during a statewide business competition.

Lopers also earned six second-place awards, with a total of 22 top-five finishes, at the Nebraska Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Collegiate State Leadership Conference.

Hosted Sunday and Monday in Kearney, the annual conference gives students from colleges and universities across the state an opportunity to network, attend leadership workshops and compete in events testing their business knowledge and skills.

Ten members of the UNK FBLA Collegiate chapter participated in the conference, with nine of them qualifying for the National Leadership Conference scheduled for June 24-27 in Orlando, Florida, and another making the reserve list.

For the third consecutive year, UNK received the overall excellence award presented to the top four-year college chapter in the state.

A fire in a Chadron apartment building early Wednesday morning has left it a total loss, Chadron Fire Department said.

The call came at around midnight on reports of a fire at the Maple Ridge Apartments at 841 Maple St, with reports saying that the structure of the fire was fully engulfed.

 CFD tells Panhandle Post that there were two occupants living in the building, and they were both not in the building. Crews were still working on the fire as of Wednesday morning, and officials say the building is a total loss.

The fire is currently under investigation. The Chadron Fire Department was assisted by Crawford Fire Department, and Chadron Police.&nbsp;

It's that special time of year again, as Carnegie kicks off its 31st Anniversary Show. Visitors can immerse themselves in the incredible artworks on display from March 26th&nbsp;to May 11th. The artist reception is on April 27th, running from 5-7pm. We extend a warm invitation to the public to come and show their support for our talented group of artists while enjoying food an drink. This year's exhibit features 36 artists from Colorado and Nebraska. A total of 79 pieces were entered and after a thorough jury process, 66 pieces were selected for the final exhibition.

This year, the judging will be conducted by Stephanie Coley from the West Nebraska Arts Center. We are excited to showcase the remarkable talents of our region once again to our community! Please remember, gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

Carnegie Arts Center Announces 31st Anniversary Show

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is seeking information on the illegal shooting and wanton waste of two mule deer in Cherry County, northwest of Cody, Nebraska.

The mule deer were shot March 23 or 24 off of Hay Valley Rd.

<a>&nbsp;I appreciate the leadership and conviction of the 20 state senators who voted to sustain my veto of LB 307. Together, we successfully blocked a bad bill that would have brought needle exchange programs to Nebraska. By distributing free needles to addicts, these programs would have increased drug abuse and overdose deaths in Nebraska.</a>

The intent of LB 307 was to reduce the spread of infectious diseases like HIV and reduce drug usage. However, opioid overdose, not HIV transmission, is the primary threat we face. Annually, HIV is responsible for fewer than 5,000 deaths in the U.S., while opioid overdoses kill over 80,000 Americans. Needle exchange programs, like those proposed in LB 307, feed into the opioid crisis. Where implemented, they have been shown to increase drug deaths.

Opioid overdoses are skyrocketing as drugs stream across our nation’s broken southern border. For Americans 18-45, fentanyl overdose is now the leading cause of death. Individuals who administer drugs by injection have the highest risk of overdose – a statistic highly relevant to the discussion on LB 307.

The State of Nebraska is actively working to prevent HIV transmission, but I refuse to sign off on policies that facilitate the use of dangerous drugs like fentanyl.&nbsp;<a>Here are just a few of the examples of how the State is helping to mitigate the spread of HIV and to treat those with the disease.</a>

These efforts have contributed to our state’s relatively low rate of HIV transmission. Nebraska’s diagnosed rate of HIV infection is about half the national average. In our state, the mortality rate of individuals with HIV is roughly one-third the overall U.S. rate.

While guarding against the spread of infectious disease, Nebraska remains on the frontlines of combating the opioid crisis.

Thanks to these collaborative efforts, and many others like them, Nebraska has the lowest drug overdose mortality rate in America.

As Governor, I completely agree there is a need to prevent the spread of HIV&nbsp;and illicit drug usage.&nbsp;But I will never put my signature on legislation that fails to protect our kids from the scourge of deadly drugs. I will continue to work with state senators to strengthen those programs we have, and explore additional opportunities, to address drug use, with programs that don’t expose others to potential health and safety concerns.

Pillen Column: Nebraska Says No to Needle Exchange Programs

CHADRON – During the first Graves Lecture of the spring semester, Dr. Susan Rolfsmeier presented “From the Badlands to Lake Baikal: Unraveling a Botanical Mystery” highlighting her doctoral research.

Rolfsmeier, who is an Academic Advisor with Project Strive TRiO at CSC, said her interest in botany came naturally since she spent a lot of time outside in her youth on St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands looking at plants. Later, a college professor told her there was a need for taxonomists, which further piqued her interest in the field.

During a dinner with her research partner and husband, Steve Rolfsmeier, she asked what problem she could study. Steve Rolfsmeier suggested she could find out more about the North American Lappula species in the forget-me-not family, specifically, whether they were native or introduced to North America. A year later, in 2003, the Rolfsmeiers and a CSC student explored the Badlands in the northern Great Plains collecting Lappula specimens and making field observations funded by a CSC research institute grant sponsored by the late Dr. Ron Weedon.

The group features plants with sparsely hairy branches, and small blue flowers less than a quarter of an inch wide. The average height of the herbaceous annuals is less than 10 inches. They grow in a variety of habitats including desert and semi-deserts, steppe, and mountains.

“These are plants with a sense of humor. Cute little flowers with burs that catch in your clothes when you’re not looking,” she said.

The burs may be key in distribution through either latching onto mammals, humans, or inanimate objects. Wind and water could be other modes of distribution.

Challenges to her research included a complicated taxonomy of the plant group in North America with names often applied inconsistently and interchanged with Eurasian names. Additionally, Lappula have complex patterns of variation in their physical form.

In the summer of 2010, while pursuing her doctorate from Kansas State University, Rolfsmeier traveled to Siberia to conduct field research with Svetlana Ovchinnikova at the Central Siberian Botanical Garden in Novosibirsk. Rolfsmeier shared interesting cultural insights into language barriers, food, and photos of an herbarium in Saint Petersburg and the Siberian grasslands where she collected Lappula specimens.

“The Siberian grasslands are not covered with snow year-round, a popular misconception, but they resemble grasslands in the High Plains region around Chadron,” she said.

Rolfsmeier extracted DNA from the dried leaf material of the plants she collected and through analysis of samples confirmed there is a distinct group of North American Lappula.

“Analysis of the molecular data demonstrated strong support for a group of North American taxa that diversified in North America,” Rolfsmeier said. “My study of specimens collected over the past 150 years from across North America helped me understand patterns of variation in the North America species and propose an updated taxonomy. There are still taxonomic and ecological questions to explore. It was exciting to have answers, but I’m always interested in asking more questions.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

On Tuesday, the Box Butte County Commissioners announced that they have enrolled in the National Association of Counties (NACo) "Live Healthy" Prescription Discounts program.

A press release by the BBCC explains that the program allows them to offer all county residents the opportunity to save money with discounts on everyday prescription medicine costs.

Residents of Box Butte County are eligible for the Live Healthy Prescription Discounts card, which is free and can save residents an average of 24% off of retail price of prescription medications.&nbsp;Residents who do not have insurance can show their card to save on all prescription purchases.

&nbsp; Box Butte County says there are no annual limits placed on use, no forms to fill out, no waiting periods, no age or income requirements and no medical condition restrictions. The Live Healthy Discounts Program is NOT health insurance.

“Many Box Butte County families face high costs when paying for prescription medicine. We are very excited to be able to offer them Prescription Discounts that can lead to tangible savings on the everyday costs of prescription medicine," Steve Burke, Box Butte County Commissioner said. "The Live Healthy Prescription Discounts Program will make it easier for our residents to afford the medicine they need to live healthy right here in Box Butte County.”&nbsp;

Box Butte County offers program to save money on prescriptions

A Gering man was arrested Tuesday after an emergency lookout and pursuit.

Shortly before 7 a.m, Scottsbluff Police received a report of an auto theft, and 15 minutes later a Scotts Bluff County Deputy saw the vehicle driving on Highway 26. A pursuit of the vehicle commenced and the man driving the vehicle alone eventually fled the vehicle on foot.

Multiple law enforcement agencies searched the area, and the man was seen by a citizen running, leading to his location.&nbsp;

25-year-old Cresencio Castillo of Gering was arrested by Deputies without any further incident.

The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office, Scottsbluff Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Minatare/Melbeta Fire Department, and Regional West Ambulance Service were all involved in incident.

MARCH 26, 2024 (SIDNEY, NEB.) — Investigators with the Nebraska State Patrol have conducted alcohol compliance checks in Cheyenne, Morrill, and Box Butte counties. 

During the afternoon and evening hours of Saturday, March 15, investigators conducted alcohol compliance checks in Cheyenne County. In total, 23 businesses were checked. Three of those businesses sold alcohol to a minor for a compliance rate of 87%. The businesses that failed the compliance check were:

Earlier this month FSA expanded authorization of emergency haying and grazing of CRP acres to support the relocation of livestock for grazing purposes. There is no fee or annual rental payment reduction assessed for emergency haying and grazing.

Emergency haying and grazing is available until the beginning of the Primary Nesting Season (PNS) in each state. Primary nesting season dates in Nebraska are May 1 through July 15. Emergency grazing can continue during the PNS with a 50% reduction in stocking rate if the county meets the Livestock Forage Disaster Program drought eligibility trigger of D2 for eight consecutive weeks or D3 or greater on the U.S. Drought Monitor.

How to Donate CRP Grazing and Haying Rights

Eligible CRP participants who want to donate CRP acres for the purpose of emergency grazing and haying must obtain a modified conservation plan, which includes emergency grazing requirements from either USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) or the participant's Technical Service Provider before the CRP acres are hayed or grazed. To ensure emergency haying or grazing of CRP acres is only being utilized by livestock producers adversely impacted by the wildfire, the livestock producer must file a CCC-576 (Notice of Loss) or provide a written certification to be included in the CRP contract file.

Haying or grazing activities are not authorized if these activities will cause long-term damage to the vegetative cover on the land as determined on a contract-by-contract basis. The CRP participant is responsible for non-compliance with the CRP contract provisions.

Due to privacy laws, FSA cannot release the names of producers willing to assist livestock producers in the fire-impact areas without their written consent. CRP participants must voluntarily disclose their willingness to assist livestock producers and consent to the disclosure of their personal information before FSA can release the information to livestock producers seeking assistance.

CRP participants who are interested in donating CRP grazing and haying privileges should contact their local USDA Service Center to confirm CRP practice eligibility and obtain approval from FSA prior to grazing or haying eligible CRP acres.

Non-Emergency Grazing and Haying of CRP Acres

As a reminder, non-emergency haying and grazing authority is also an available option for wildfire-impacted livestock producers. Non-emergency grazing and haying activities can occur according to the CRP participant’s conservation plan during drought or natural disaster conditions, but the site conditions should be taken into consideration and the plan modified, as needed. Non-emergency harvesting for hay is authorized once during the approved event and no later than Aug. 31. Participants must leave 25% of the contract acres unharvested or hayed. Non-emergency grazing must not exceed 120 days. During the PNS, there must be a 50% carrying capacity reduction. For both non-emergency grazing and haying, there will be a 25% annual rental payment reduction.

In addition to CRP emergency and non-emergency grazing and haying provisions, FSA recently announced policy flexibilities for several key disaster assistance programs to aid agricultural producers who have experienced significant livestock, feed, forage and infrastructure loss from recent wildfires. USDA authorizes program for Nebraska livestock producers

I-80 westbound from Kearney to North Platte is closed and I-80 eastbound from Big Springs to Lexington is closed.

HWY 30 remains closed at this time from the Wyoming border to Kearney in both directions. Crews are out and working to get roads clear. Strong winds have caused many snow drifts on major roadways.

Nebraska Department of Transportation announces I-80 update

LINCOLN, NE –,&nbsp;Governor Jim Pillen announced he has ordered a second deployment of members of the Nebraska National Guard and Nebraska State Patrol to Texas to help respond to the ongoing crisis along the U.S. border with Mexico.

“Every state is a border state, and what happens along our nation’s southern border affects us right here in Nebraska,” said Gov. Pillen. “We’re seeing record amounts of fentanyl and heroin flood into our communities as Mexican cartels take advantage of the disastrous border policies of the federal government. I am extremely grateful to the soldiers, airmen, and state troopers who volunteered for this important mission. Their skills will help stem the tide of illegal immigration and keep deadly drugs off our streets.”

The mission is being organized in response to a request for emergency assistance from the state of Texas.&nbsp;The request was made through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), which is an agreement among states to send personnel and resources to assist with disasters in other states.

Thirty-five personnel from the Nebraska National Guard (28 Army Guard soldiers and seven Air Guard airmen) have volunteered for the mission. They will conduct operations in the vicinity of Eagle Pass, Texas. The soldiers and airmen are scheduled to deploy in early April for a duration of 90 days. While deployed, they will be on state active-duty status in support of the Texas National Guard as part of Operation Lone Star.

“The Nebraska National Guard is always ready to respond when our fellow Americans are dealing with an emergency, whether it is here in our own backyard, in another state, or overseas,” said Major General Craig W. Strong, the Adjutant General of the Nebraska National Guard. “I am proud of our soldiers and airmen honorably serving once again in support of Operation Lone Star.” &nbsp;

Ten troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) will deploy to the El Paso area for two weeks in mid-April. All are volunteers. As in past NSP border deployments, the troopers will work alongside the Texas Department of Public Safety.

“On multiple occasions, our troopers have answered the call to support Texas DPS troopers in their mission to keep American communities safe,” said Colonel John Bolduc, NSP superintendent. “This deployment is a continuation of that support and an affirmation that when our law enforcement partners call for help, they can count on the Nebraska State Patrol.”

In December 2023, illegal border crossings into the U.S. from Mexico exceeded 300,000. That was an all-time high for a single month. The lax federal border policies responsible for the rise in illegal immigration have also resulted in increased drug trafficking. The Omaha Division of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) reported an 83% increase in the number of fentanyl pills seized in 2023 compared to 2022. The DEA estimates that 2023 was the deadliest year ever for drug poisonings in the United States, with an estimated 112,000 American lives lost. Per the DEA, “70 percent of these drug poisonings are from fentanyl.” Additionally, the Omaha Police Department recently alerted local law enforcement to an uptick of drug distribution activity in Omaha -- specifically due to the increased flow of meth supplied by Mexican cartels.

Gov. Pillen Announces Second Nebraska Troop Deployment to Secure Southern Border

On Monday, Former Husker and professional basketball player Jordan Hooper announced the formation of the Hooper/Hiemstra Basketball academy for young basketball players in the Panhandle.&nbsp;

Hooper said in a Facebook post that the basketball academy will be put on by herself and Mason and Randy Hiemstra and will be known as 'H2BA.'

Hooper stresses that the Academy will work with high school Coaches in the Panhandle and will offer an old school approach to the contemporary game of the sport.&nbsp;

"We see the need and we want to give western Nebraska a product we can all be proud of," Hooper said.

The academy will be offered to boys and girls for grades 3-5, 6-8, and high school, and the program will work with area high schools in the area.

Annual tractor and equipment safety training courses for youth, to be held in eight sites across Nebraska in late May and early June, now are open for registration.

The trainings are held in collaboration with Nebraska Extension and the Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health (CS-CASH) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Public Health. Although designed for 14- to 15-year-old students, the courses are open to all interested in learning more about the safe operation of tractors and equipment.

Nebraska Extension began the tractor safety course more than 50 years ago. Since 2013, when the CS-CASH and Extension partnership began, more than 1,200 young Nebraska farmers and ranchers have received safety training certification.

The training can be lifesaving. From 2001 through 2015, 48% of all fatal injuries to young, hired workers occurred in agriculture, and the leading cause of death in these young workers was tractor-related accidents.

Federal law prohibits children under 16 from using certain equipment on a farm unless their parents or legal guardians own the farm. However, certification received through this course grants an exemption to the law allowing 14- and 15-year-olds to drive a tractor and to do field work with certain mechanized equipment.

Certification is earned by completing a Hands-On Safety Day with a written test on the first day, followed by a tractor and equipment safety training course, including a driving exam, on the second day. Successful completion will result in certification for 14- and 15-year-old youth to be employed on farms and ranches.

The education team will include Aaron Yoder, PhD, UNMC associate professor and CS-CASH researcher. Day 1 of the course will cover the required elements of the National Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation Program, including quizzes that students must pass to attend the driving portion of the training. Day 2 will include a driving test, equipment operation and ATV safety lessons. Students must demonstrate competence in hitching and unhitching equipment and driving a tractor and trailer through a standardized course. The two-day course will include lessons on emergency first aid, personal protective equipment use, ATV/UTV safety and livestock handling.

The course costs $40 and includes educational materials, lunch on both days and supplies. Youth under 14 can register for and attend Certification Day 1 if accompanied by an adult. They cannot drive equipment, attend Day 2 or become certified. Students under 14 must still register but will not be charged the registration fee.

Those attending a location that only offers Day 2 (Gering, Hastings and O’Neill) must complete Certification Day 1 at another location or complete a virtual module. Certification Day 1 (or online module)&nbsp;must&nbsp;be completed, passing the written exam, before attending Certification Day 2.

The two-day course will include lessons on emergency first aid, personal protective equipment use, ATV/UTV safety and livestock handling.The course costs $40 and includes educational materials, lunch on both days and supplies. Youth under 14 can register for and attend Certification Day 1 if accompanied by an adult. They cannot drive equipment, attend Day 2 or become certified. Students under 14 must still register but will not be charged the registration fee.Those attending a location that only offers Day 2 (Gering, Hastings and O’Neill) must complete Certification Day 1 at another location or complete a virtual module. Our new head softball coach is Heston Williams.&nbsp; Heston is graduating from Mount Marty University in Yankton, South Dakota this spring.&nbsp; Heston is a member of the baseball team at Mount Marty.&nbsp; Coach Williams will teach PE at Alliance High School.&nbsp; His wife Andi will be a fifth grade teacher at Grandview Elementary.

Tabitha is a 2014 graduate of Alliance High School and the University of Nebraska Kearney.&nbsp; She also earned a master's degree from Black Hills State.&nbsp; Tabitha began her coaching career as the head volleyball coach of the Bayard Tigers.&nbsp; In four years, she has a record of 71-51 and led Bayard to its first state tournament appearance in 30 years in 2022 with a record of 31-2.&nbsp; Tabitha served as an assistant coach in the Western Nebraska All star volleyball game in 2023.&nbsp; Tabitha teaches special education at Emerson Elementary.&nbsp;&nbsp;Our new girls basketball coach is Mickenzie Brennan.&nbsp; Mickenzie is a 2015 graduate of Alliance High School and Chadron State.&nbsp; She fought through numerous injuries while playing basketball for AHS and went on to play college basketball at Mid Plains Community College and Chadron State.&nbsp; Mickenzie began her career as a teacher and coach at Hyannis High School.&nbsp; She most recently coached for Alliance Middle School and has served as an assistant coach for Alliance High School.Our new boys basketball coach is Jordan Mills.&nbsp; Jordan is a 2015 graduate of Alliance High School and Chadron State.&nbsp; Jordan was a standout player for the Bulldogs.&nbsp; He played college basketball for Mid Plains Community College and Chadron State.&nbsp; Jordan has taught elementary PE in Rapid City and was a freshmen coach and varsity assistant coach at Rapid City Central.&nbsp; Jordan will teach at Alliance High School.&nbsp; His wife Samantha is also a graduate of Alliance High School.&nbsp; They are excited to move back to Alliance.All of these coaches are eager to begin working with the athletes of Alliance High School.
