Frances Jean Smith died Friday, February 25, 2022 at Chimney Rock Villa Nursing Home in Bayard.&nbsp; She was 87 years old.

She was born May 31, 1934 in Alliance, Nebraska to Albert and Ella (Lance) Mundt.

She married Wendel W. Smith on October 15, 1952 in Bridgeport, Nebraska.&nbsp; She was very active in the Alliance area.&nbsp; Over the years Jean operated a day-care center, worked at the Drake and Rainbow Hotels, and also cleaned homes.&nbsp; Jean was a very helpful, kind, and caring person and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her five children, Delmar (Dee) Smith, John Smith, Derald (Rhonda) Smith, Roger Smith and Sandra (Kelly) Clark, all of Alliance.&nbsp; She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and her brothers, John and Alvin Mundt of Alliance.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Memorial services will be held Friday, March 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.&nbsp; Reverend Russell Saito will officiate.&nbsp; Interment will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.

Frances Jean Smith (1934 - 2022)

Peggy (Peg) Pearl Walgren was born February 8, 1929, to Charles and Pearl Riley in Hay Springs, Nebraska. She passed away from this life on February 25, 2022 at the Chadron Community Hospital at the age of 93, surrounded by her loving family.

Peg attended school in Hay Springs, graduating in 1946. She attended Colorado Woman’s College (CWC) in Denver, Colorado for two years and the University of Colorado in Boulder for two years. In 1950, Peg returned home to help run the C.L Riley family store while her mother recuperated from surgery. She then taught rural schools for 3 years; in the Wayne Walgren District, the Ashmore District and the Doon Hunter District.

Peg married Delmer Walgren on March 16, 1952 in the Methodist Church in Hay Springs. In 1954 Delmer quit farming and both he and Peg worked in the Riley store, eventually assuming ownership. They remodeled and closed out the clothing and dry goods and operated a Jack and Jill grocery store until 1965. They then purchased a 7-UP distributorship with Delmer running the pop truck up and down highway 20 and Peg doing the bookkeeping. When the distributorship was sold. Peg was selected as the inaugural Director of the new Sheridan County Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) where she continued to work for the next 19 years.

While Peg worked her entire life, she loved her fun time. She played softball in her early years and enjoyed bowling both in Hay Springs and neighboring towns. Her passion, however, was camping, boating and fishing with her family and friends, known as the Lake Crew. She spent over five decades on the shores of Angostora, days filled with endless hours of card playing and fishing, and evenings full of laughter around the campfire. Peg never wanted to miss out on anything and was always the one to help douse the fire at the end of an evening.

She was known for her fondness of cards, board games, puzzles and reading. But her passion ran the deepest for bridge, belonging to multiple clubs all her life. She was especially careful about her hair and had a standing weekly appointment at the beauty shop, making sure to keep up on local happenings. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, belonged to the Legion Auxiliary, and was active with PEO for nearly seven decades.

Peg loved her family and all things family related. She planned all year for the Walgren Family reunion and looked forward to seeing and catching up with everyone. She kept the list for decades and knew exactly whose turn it was to host! She was a proud mother who traveled miles and miles around the Panhandle with Delmer to watch her kids play sports and never missed a school event. And she thoroughly enjoyed trips to Lincoln with friends to see her beloved Cornhuskers play.

In her retirement years, Peg traveled with Delmer to various places around the country, including Alaska, Branson, Hawaii, Washington D.C., Salmon fishing in Washington state, and Texas. Arches National Park, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Palm Springs. But most of all, she got enjoyment spending time with her children and grandchildren. All who knew her appreciated her humor and sharp wit and made many memories with her. Her children’s friends all had a healthy respect for this spunky lady! She loved to sing “On the Road Again” when she was in the car and is now on her final road trip. Vaya Con Dios, Peg, you are loved and will be forever with us.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Pearl Riley, husband Delmer, and son Greg. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Annette Langford of Hay Springs, daughter Kim Walgren (Jay Bogner) of

Buffalo, Wyoming; son Brad Walgren of Laramie, Wyoming; grandchildren Sarah (Adam) England of Fort Collins, Colorado; Bradley and Annie Walgren of Laramie, Wyoming; Sarah Oertel (Brandon) of Gold Hill, Oregon; and KatiRose Callison (Paul) of Seattle, Washinigton. She also has many surviving nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the Hay Springs Methodist Church on Saturday, March 5th at 10:00 a.m., with graveside burial at the Hay Springs cemetery. Lunch will be served at the church following graveside services. All are welcome to attend and share their favorite stories of Peg, a unique and much-loved soul.

Ronald E. Clapp, 68, of McGrew, died Saturday, February 26, 2022 at his home with his loving family by his side. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at High Butte Cemetery near McGrew with Pastor Mike Clement officiating. A celebration of life will follow at 1 p.m. at Anchor Baptist Church in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made in care of the family. Ron was born a Nebraska boy on August 4, 1953 in Grant. He developed a “farmer’s heart” at ten years old when he began his first job helping on his Grandpa Keller’s farm near Grant. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1971. Ron worked on the construction of I-80 following graduation and then at Colorado Beef. He was later employed by Sterling Industrial Welding where he grew skills that eventually crafted him into a master fabricator and machinist.

Ron married Edna M. Moss on September 15, 1973 in Bridgeport. They lived in Sterling one year before moving to The Valley, where two sons were born, Greg and Adam. The family made their home in McGrew in the early eighties. Ron was very involved in the McGrew community and served as Mayor for some time.

Ron had a seventeen-year long career working at Lockwoods before he began working for BNSF Railroad the next twenty-three years. He also owned and operated his own business, Ron’s Welding and Repair, during that time.

He was a self-proclaimed gearhead. Ron loved old cars and motorcycles and even hand-built an award-winning trike. He had a special appreciation for horsepower, but was also a horse-whisperer. Maybe it started from his younger years spent on ranches in the Sandhills, but Ron had a way of understanding and connecting with horses.

Ron was active in his church, previously serving as a deacon as well as a Sunday school teacher. He helped anyone who ever asked him for help and was a friend to everyone who he met. He enjoyed telling stories under the “Who-Hut” at his home where he never ran out of iced tea for those who joined him. Family was first and foremost to Ron and he had a big embrace for all.

Survivors include his wife, Edna; sons, Greg (Emily) and Adam (Sue); six grandchildren; mother, Lydian; father, Harold; twelve siblings: Steve, Cheri, Kathy, Tina, Cecil, Mary, Tim, Jack, Cherrie, Frog, Ed, and Tony; and four brothers-in-law and one sister-in law of Edna’s family.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; two grandbabies; biological father, George; and step-mother, Carol.

Fredrick Michael Alvarado, age 57, went to be with the Lord on February 23, 2022. Fredrick Michael Alvarado better known as Mike was born on July 13, 1964. He was born and raised in Alliance, Nebraska. Mike worked for BNSF Railway for 27 years. Most importantly Mike was a father, grandfather, brother, son, husband, and a friend. Larry Fibelstad, 83, of Minatare, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at his home. His memorial dinner and celebration will be held in his honor on March 12, 2022, from 1-3 PM at the Bayard Fire Hall 544 Main St Bayard NE. Friends and family are welcome to come celebrate his life. Larry for most of his career was an over the road truck driver, he was also an electrician. Up until his illness he drove semi-trucks and was known by the CB handle “T-Bone” after his fondness for the steak. He loved to talk on the CB and take his wife on hauls with him, he was at home in an 18-wheeler. His favorite saying was “Safe journey good buddy”. He will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Arloue Fibelstad; daughter Sherry Fibelstad, son Arlowe Fibelstad, son John Fibelstad, and daughter Christina Scott; brother Kenny Legrierd; grandchildren Danyel Rein, Kevin Cline, Alicia Fibelstad, Katie Chandler and Kimberly Scott; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Marissa Rein, Karlee and Britlee Franco, and Jaxon Scott. He was preceded in death by brother Duane Fibelstad, mother Florence Rundquist, and granddaughter Kristin Cline.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Larry Fibelstad (1938 - 2022)

Matthew James Kizer of Alliance, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly on February 22, 2022 in Lawrence, Kansas. Matt was born on April 13, 1984 to parents Terrence, Sr. and Valerie Kizer in Wakonda, South Dakota. He grew up with four brothers and three sisters Terrence Jr., Jacob (Zach), twins Jay and Jared, Andrea, Sarah and Mikaela. Matt loved celebrating his birthday with his three siblings who shared his birthday and thought of them as his birthday presents. Matt&nbsp;loved being with his family and friends and was always the life of the party, or really any occasion. He had a story for everything and always knew the right time to tell it (which was all the time). He was always generous with his time and would help anyone who needed it, even if it meant driving half way across the country at a moment’s notice.

He graduated from Sturgis Brown High School in Sturgis, South Dakota after spending most of his younger years in Wakonda, South Dakota. He touched the lives of so many people, and made everyone feel like his best friend. His greatest accomplishment was being a Father to Ryan and Chloe. He made every effort to be there for them and support them in all their activities. 

Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, two close friends, and a nephew. He is survived by his grandfather, Gene Snoozy of Yankton, South Dakota;&nbsp; parents, Terry Kizer of Buffalo Gap, South Dakota and Valerie Kizer of Alliance, Nebraska; children Ryan and Chloe; and his siblings, Annie Anderson (Zane, Chance, Scout, Sage, and Blaise) of Fountain, Colorado, TJ and Christie (Mae and Ada) of Beulah, North Dakota, Jacob and Ann (Max) of Callahan, Florida, Sarah and Kris Will (Hailey, JD, Carley, and Lily) of Lawrence, Kansas, Kayla Roth (Madison, Parker, and Grace) of Alliance, Nebraska, Jay of Savannah, Georgia, and Jared of Alliance, Nebraska; a hiking partner that he got to have adventures with, and his old dog Bobo. A private memorial service is being planned in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp;

 </figure>Matthew James Kizer of Alliance, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly on February 22, 2022 in Lawrence, Kansas. Matt was born on April 13, 1984 to parents Terrence, Sr. and Valerie Kizer in Wakonda, South Dakota. He grew up with four brothers and three sisters Terrence Jr., Jacob (Zach), twins Jay and Jared, Andrea, Sarah and Mikaela. Matt loved celebrating his birthday with his three siblings who shared his birthday and thought of them as his birthday presents. Matt&nbsp;loved being with his family and friends and was always the life of the party, or really any occasion. He had a story for everything and always knew the right time to tell it (which was all the time). He was always generous with his time and would help anyone who needed it, even if it meant driving half way across the country at a moment’s notice. He graduated from Sturgis Brown High School in Sturgis, South Dakota after spending most of his younger years in Wakonda, South Dakota. He touched the lives of so many people, and made everyone feel like his best friend. His greatest accomplishment was being a Father to Ryan and Chloe. He made every effort to be there for them and support them in all their activities. Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, two close friends, and a nephew. He is survived by his grandfather, Gene Snoozy of Yankton, South Dakota;&nbsp; parents, Terry Kizer of Buffalo Gap, South Dakota and Valerie Kizer of Alliance, Nebraska; children Ryan and Chloe; and his siblings, Annie Anderson (Zane, Chance, Scout, Sage, and Blaise) of Fountain, Colorado, TJ and Christie (Mae and Ada) of Beulah, North Dakota, Jacob and Ann (Max) of Callahan, Florida, Sarah and Kris Will (Hailey, JD, Carley, and Lily) of Lawrence, Kansas, Kayla Roth (Madison, Parker, and Grace) of Alliance, Nebraska, Jay of Savannah, Georgia, and Jared of Alliance, Nebraska; a hiking partner that he got to have adventures with, and his old dog Bobo. Bruce C. Matlock, Jr., 68, of Scottsbluff, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022, at Regional Wes Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Cremation has taken place and his Mass of Christian Burial service will be held at 2pm on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with a rosary service at 1pm. His latest project being his 1955 Ford pickup in which he envisioned he and Toby cruising down the road headed to the next car show. Bruce owned Bruce's Tavern for many years where he loved seeing his old friends and meeting new ones. He had many lifelong friends that always held a special place in his heart. John Nunes, 93, passed away at Highland Park Assisted Living on February 16, 2022. He was valiant and good-natured during his declining health. We celebrate his long, full life and honor his legacy.

John was the oldest child of Anthony and Martina Nunes. He was born in St. Paul, MN. Along with his siblings, he grew up on western Nebraska farms during the Great Depression and attended country schools in Oshkosh, Lewellen and Alliance. Sneaking into country school is where John taught himself how to play the piano. At a young age, hard work became the cornerstone of his life.

John graduated from Alliance High School in 1947, while also working a part time job at the Burlington Ice House. As a young man, he gave his railroad paychecks to his parents. He was the first in his family to complete high school. In shop class, he excelled at woodworking, which later became an enthusiastic hobby that produced many memorable remodeling and home improvement projects. After graduation, John began a day job at LaFave Dairy and worked nights for Burlington Refrigerator Express (BREX), loading ice blocks into “reefers.” In 1968, he accepted a job transfer and promotion to Peoria, Illinois. Then came a second relocation to Galesburg, Illinois, where John retired in 1990 after 38 years of service with Burlington Northern. Peoria is where he met his second wife, Betty Howell, at a singles dance. They were married on February 27, 1971, in Creve Couer, IL. After John’s retirement, they became avid travelers and moved to the Ozark Mountains of northwest Arkansas. When Betty’s health failed, John took on the steadfast role of care provider until she passed away in 2013.

John returned home to his Nebraska roots to be near his adult children and their families, especially his son, Jerry, who was battling MS. He became a popular lap for great and great-great grandkids and attended his first Nebraska football game in Lincoln, NE. After Jerry’s passing, John was given the honor of walking his granddaughter, Jayme, down the aisle at her wedding. He was known for his genuine kindness, silly wise-cracks, sense of humor and colorful assortment of plaid shirts. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. John was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents, brothers Martin, Richard and Tony, sister Jean Peterson, son Jerry Nunes, step-son John Bybee, and step-grandson David Willingham.

John Nunes (1928 - 2022)

Marlene L. Chinnock of Alliance passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

She was born on December 31, 1931 in Lincoln, NE to Henry and Amelia (Herstein) Bell.

Marlene graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1952 with a Bachelor's degree in elementary education.&nbsp; In college she was active in Towne Club and Tassels.&nbsp; On July 27, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert F. Chinnock at Salem Congressional Church in Lincoln.

In 1952, Marlene and Bob moved to Fort Sill, OK after Bob was commissioned in the U.S. Army.&nbsp; When Bob was deployed overseas, Marlene returned to Lincoln and began her teaching career.&nbsp; After Bob returned from the war, Marlene, Bob, and their children spent their lives moving throughout Western Nebraska, Colorado, and Wyoming, finally settling in Alliance in 1969.

Marlene loved people, especially children, spending much of her adult life teaching elementary school, with a specialization in pre-school special education. She was a devoted Christian who played the piano and organ in church when she was young, and she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Alliance.&nbsp; Marlene actively worked for the Alliance community, volunteering at the Carnegie Arts Center and the Box Butte General Hospital, in addition to being a member of the P.E.O. Chapter AH, American Legion Auxiliary, and BBGH Auxiliary.&nbsp; Marlene had endless energy and was full of joy and wit. She had a passion for life and loved nothing more than spending time surrounded by her family.&nbsp; Marlene and her family were blessed to celebrate her 90th birthday together on New Years Eve 2021.

Her survivors include her loving husband Bob, her children, Mary Chinnock Petroski and her husband Greg, of Kearney; Tom Chinnock and his wife Ann, of Fort Collins, CO; and Jodi Walker and her husband Jim, of Gering; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Julia Chinnock and her husband Erich and their children Tobias and Emmelyn, of Austin, TX; Lianna Bash and her husband Kyle and their expected son to be born in June, of Newcastle, WA; and Holly Marker and her husband Alex and their son Thatcher, of Scottsbluff.&nbsp; Marlene is also survived by her sister Barbara Hoffman and her husband Gary, of Lincoln, and their children Daniel, Deborah, and Diana and their families.&nbsp;&nbsp; Marlene was also loved by a large extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews who live throughout Nebraska and the United States.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 24 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Gideon Achi officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with family being present from 4-6 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to the Cattle Capital Shriner's Children's Hospital transportation fund.

She was born September 13, 1949 at Hemingford, NE to Arnold and Rachel (Klein) Mazanec.&nbsp; Following high school she became a Licensed Practical Nurse.&nbsp; For over 20 years she worked at Box Butte General Hospital and then worked at nursing homes in Alliance, Hemingford, Hay Springs and Rushville.

She was married to Mike O’Connor and to this union her children, Sean, Stephanie and Shane were born.&nbsp; She then married Charles Bellew and her children, Renee and Zachary were born.&nbsp;

Janice is survived by her children, Sean O’Connor of Chappell, NE, Stephanie O’Connor of Vermillion, SD, Shane O’Connor of Moorcroft, WY, Renee Bellew of Decatur, IL and Zachary Bellew of Alliance, 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brother, Dennis Mazanec of Hemingford.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Charles, and two grandchildren, Cory Michael and Brittany Jean O’Connor.

Memorial services will be Saturday, February 19 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Greenwood Cemetery at Chadron.

Delynn Rae (Clark) Cain, 63, of North Platte, passed away at her home on Feb. 4, 2022. Delynn was born on Jan. 16, 1959, in Alliance, to Dell and Karen Clark of Alliance. She attended kindergarten in Alliance before moving to Lexington with her family and later returned to Alliance, where she graduated from Alliance High School in 1977. She attended Chadron State College where she met the love of her life, Rodney Gene Cain. Delynn and Rodney were married at the First Christian Church in Alliance on June 8, 1979. They joined Rodney's parents at their North Platte western wear business in 1980, where they worked until the business was sold in 1999. Three children were born to this union: Jesse, Jace and Crista. They raised their children in North Platte. Delynn and Rodney were able to spend 42 wonderful years together. Delynn was blessed to be able to spend her time watching her kids play sports. She was a member of the Little League Baseball board and Platte Valley Girls softball board. She kept score at many baseball and softball games. She was able to coach many of her daughter's sports. Traveling to watch her kids at baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball and tennis tournaments gave her joy. She loved spending time with her grandsons: Jax, Brayden, Rogan and Callum. It was always Delynn's passion to be a nurse and she was able to go back to school and graduate as an RN alongside their son Jace in 2010. She earned her BSN in 2017 from UNMC. She spent 10 years as an RN and spent her last few years traveling as a labor and delivery nurse, where she met so many wonderful people. She was preceded in death by her in-laws, Gene and Marianna Cain. William (Bill) F Coleman passed away on February 8, 2022, in Lincoln, NE. Bill chose cremation and to be buried in the Gering Cemetery next to his wife. Bill's wish was not to have a funeral service. Born on November 3, 1944, in Sutherland, NE to Marion and Augusta (Ehlers) Coleman. Bill was the youngest of four siblings. Beginning his life in the sandhills of Nebraska on the family cattle ranch located north of Paxton. His education started in a one room school house deep in the sandhills and later after the family moved to a farm outside of Minatare NE, Bill graduated from Minatare High School in 1963. Bill then attended college at the University of Denver receiving a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. It was during his college years that he met Corrine A Roseland. Bill and Corrine were married on September 8, 1964, and started a family soon after. After college Bill and Corrine made their life in Gering where Bill started as a loan officer for Platte Valley Federal and while still in his early twenties became the President of PVF. Bill’s love of music and stereo equipment lead him to leave PVF and start his next business ventures Stereo City Warehouse and Banana’s Records and Tapes, along with other successful businesses such as Roseland Cabinets, Tug's Old West Liquor Store, Heritage Homes, and various farms he owned throughout the valley. Bill and Corrine remained together until her death in 1996. He remained in the Scottsbluff area for many years afterward working for the Chamber of Commerce and later in life was a salesman for Hinn's Mobile Homes until he retired. Shortly after retirement Bill suffered a lung blood clot, his condition normally proves fatal, but thanks to Bill’s fighting spirit and an impeccable RWMC emergency staff, Bill flatlined 5 times but survived. This health victory did not come without a cost as Bill’s health declined he moved closer to family in Cairo, NE and eventually Gateway Vista Assisted Living Center in Lincoln NE where he remained until his passing. Bill was an exceptional businessman to which many people turned to for assistance and advice. He and Corrine worked hard through their lives to build a good life for the family. He had a sense of humor that people loved and gravitated to. A great patriot he loved America, Husker football, animals, music, and his family. His final words were “I Love You” how blessed we were to have Bill in our life! The family wishes to acknowledge the exceptional care and love Bill received from the Gateway Vista staff during his time there. His survivors include his sister, Barbara Anderson of Omaha. daughter Gina Doughty of Cairo, son Mike Coleman and Teresa Coleman of Weldona, CO, daughter Barb and Todd Lewien of Omaha, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many friends. &nbsp; Lawrence Clifford Murray “Larry” went to his heavenly home on February 4, 2022. A memorial service is being planned for late May. He attended school in Dunning and in many other towns and states, being the son of a construction working father in the early 1930’s. Larry worked in the oil fields, helped in the construction of Box Butte Reservoir and in Scottsbluff worked for John Jurgen’s, Cooks Elevator, B and C Steel, was a ditch rider and hauled sugar beets. Larry was a very good mechanic and loved tinkering on motors especially boat motors for his many boats. He was an avid fisherman. He and his brothers rarely missed a summer of continuous fishing days and then he would host a big “fish fry” for family and friends. Larry was generous and big hearted to everyone he knew. As a young man he would work and bring his paycheck home to his parents. As an older man he spent his money on relative’s needs. He was especially generous to his nephews and nieces. Everyone loved a good story from Uncle Larry about his life experiences. He could tell a story like no other. (And had the experiences to give him plenty of material). He learned to cook like his mom and held many “cooking classes” for family members on how to make grandma’s cinnamon rolls. Larry was the uncle everyone wishes they had. We all celebrate his 95 years and the portion of those each of us had with him. Larry was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Maurice (Pat), sisters Thelma, Winifred, Verna, Beulah Betz, and brother Max. Larry is survived by his brother, Bud (Dori) Murray and countless nieces and nephews, and his loving caregivers.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Carole L. Mix passed away February 4, 2022, at her home in Gering, Nebraska. She was born Oct 5,1937 in Wray, Colorado to Walter R. Peters and Vylena Daisy (Starkey) Peters. She grew up in Broadwater Nebraska. In 1953 She married Jim Powers and had 2 daughters, Allene Dowling and Vylena Prochazka. On Sept 15, 1973, she married Francis Mix and gained two step children to her family, Mary Bentley and Myron Mix. Carole liked to do accounting and worked as a bookkeeper. She and Francis also had their own business in Alliance. She also enjoyed working at the Scottsbluff Zoo. Carole loved to travel and got to visit several different countries and do exciting things like hang gliding and zip lining. She liked to read, make cross stitch gifts, and work puzzles. She loved going to her grandkids events and would have been at all of them if she could. Her family was most important to her and she especially enjoyed the time she spent together with them. She is survived by her husband Francis Mix.; children Allene (Paul) Dowling, Vylena (Rod) Prochazka. On Sept 15, 1973, she married Francis Mix and gained two step children to her family, Mary Bentley and Myron Mix. Carole liked to do accounting and worked as a bookkeeper. She and Francis also had their own business in Alliance. She also enjoyed working at the Scottsbluff Zoo. Carole loved to travel and got to visit several different countries and do exciting things like hang gliding and zip lining. She liked to read, make cross stitch gifts, and work puzzles. She loved going to her grandkids events and would have been at all of them if she could. Her family was most important to her and she especially enjoyed the time she spent together with them. She is survived by her husband Francis Mix.; children Allene (Paul) Dowling, Vylena (Rod) Prochazka. Rodger married Joanne Vogel on June 16, 1968 in Alliance, NE. Rodger and Joanne welcomed son Sidney in 1970 and daughter Kendra in 1972.

Rodger worked the family farm in Angora for many years. He worked in various automotive and tractor part stores through the years before retiring from Bridgeport Tractor Supply.

Rodger served the community or several board including Angora school board, Angora Cemetery board, Morrill County Fair board, Bridgeport Rural Fire District and Courthouse and Jail Rock Golf Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and visiting with anyone.

Survivors include his wife Joanne Berry, son Sidney Berry of Bridgeport, daughter Kendra (Eric) Backer of Roca, NE, grandchildren Micheal Berry of Bridgeport, Stephanie Berry of Minden, Alexander Backer, Sofia Backer and Emelyn Backer all of Roca, NE and great grandson Lincoln Berry of Bridgeport; brother Lynn (Bev) Berry of Alliance, NE, sister Irene (Johnny) Cooper of Bridgeport, sister-in-law Kathie Berry of Washington and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Hazel (Kohrman) Roebuck, her husband, Lyle Pebley, and sisters, Maxine Peterson, Phyllis Varala, Audrey McCoplin, brothers, Gary Roebuck, Kenny, Floyd and two infants.

She is survived by her children, Roxi and Rodney, her grandchildren, Starla Baer of WY, Ryan Kriz of Broken Bow and Jacob Reed of Alliance and 2 great grandchildren.

David L. Boyles, 53, passed away on Friday, February 4,&nbsp;2022 at Swedish Medical Center in Denver, CO.

He was born on May 6, 1968 in Alliance to Glenwood “Jim” and Ruby (Krueger) Boyles. He graduated from Mullen High School in 1986.&nbsp; He attended Mid Plains Community College for 1 semester and then began working for Gary McLoad near Mullen.&nbsp; He later moved to Box Butte County and worked for Barry Casey and later Progress Rail.&nbsp; He worked as a locomotive mechanic and later formed his own company, Boyles Consulting.&nbsp; He also worked in railroad materials salvaging at Chamberlain, SD.&nbsp;

He met Teresa Hoelting in Alliance and they were married on September 10, 1994 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.&nbsp; Two children, Dominick and Adrianna were born to this union.

David was a member of Holy Rosary Church and was active as a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.&nbsp; He was an avid fisherman and hunter.&nbsp; David enjoyed hunting and fishing with his kids and their friends and with his new found South Dakota friends.&nbsp; He also coached baseball, junior tackle football and wrestling and was an avid fan of the Cornhuskers and 49’ers.&nbsp; David and Teresa have organized and run the People Helping People Thanksgiving Dinner program for 30 years.&nbsp; He also was a member of the Sons of the American Legion # 300 and recently became a member of the Eagles Club. He loved to cook for family and friends, he always said he wasn’t a good cook, just liked to “practice” and it was a “hobby” he enjoyed.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa, his children, Dominick of Lincoln and Adrianna of Alliance, adopted sons, BJ and Kyle Krantz, his mother and step-father, Ruby and Mike O’Connor of Hemingford, his siblings , Ray Stites of Hemingford, Ruby Bingham, Robert Boyles, Steven Boyles, Angel Boyles, Sonja Boyles Peters and Coleen Boyles Springman. He is also survived by aunts and uncles, Darlene and Bill Osborn, Mullen, Leta and Mike Cox of Alliance and Nila Pettit of North Platte as well as numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Boyles, his brother, John Stites, his uncle and aunt who raised him, Melvin and Faye Boyles, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Francis and Anna Hoelting, his sister-in-law, Karen Hoelting and his close friend, Charlie Krantz.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Matt Koperski officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.&nbsp; A wake service will be Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church.&nbsp; Visitation will be Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Bates-Gould Funeral Home and continue at the wake service.

David L. Boyles (1968 - 2022)

Robert (Bob) Rodgers, 81, of Bridgeport, Nebraska, passed on from this worldly life on February 3, 2022 at Skyview at Bridgeport. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 8th from 5-7 pm at Bridgeport Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Gloryland Church in Bridgeport, with burial to follow at Redington Cemetery. Robert Gene Rodgers (along with his twin brother Richard Gyle) was born to Herman and Cora (Henson) Rodgers on October 16, 1940 near Redington, Nebraska. As a child, he really DID walk uphill, in the snow, both ways, to the one room schoolhouse near the family home. He spent the majority of his life on the family farm and ranch southwest of Bridgeport, with the exception of his time serving in the U.S. Navy from 1963-1966. His travels took him to the shores of Vietnam, Louisiana, and eventually California, where he met the love of his life, Celeste Joy Walker. 

It wasn't exactly a love-at-first-sight story, at least not for her…Celeste would later say that she thought “Rodge” was a total jerk the first time they met. Apparently, he grew on her, as they spent the next 55 years together! Bob and Celeste were married on January 7, 1967 in Fresno, California. On the trip back to Nebraska, ornery “Rodge” took every back road he could find, just to confuse the city girl. His new bride may have had her doubts about what she had gotten herself into, but quickly fell in love with the rural setting and ranch life. 

The couple was blessed with 5 children: Mark Thomas, Steven Ray, Michael James, John Robert, and Jodie Angeline. 

Bob was one of the true, real cowboys, probably riding a horse from the time he was a toddler. He was also known to ride more unusual critters, like his longhorn steer, Charlie. 

Bob and Celeste spent several years at Cheyenne Frontier Days, where they drove wagons in the parades and made lifelong friends. Some of his favorite activities were driving his team and wagon in parades and taking children caroling at Christmas time. He was a steady fixture at every 4th of July rodeo, often hauling the rodeo royalty in his wagon for the Grand Entry. For several years, he rode in the Pony Express reenactment. 

He was a member of the Morrill County Sheriff’s Posse and the Morrill County Fairboard. 

He never met a stranger; always striking up a conversation wherever he went. You knew if he went to town, not to expect him home for several hours. He definitely had an ornery streak, always joking and teasing. He was also known to show up at auctions and bring home lots of unnecessary things. These “treasures” included random trinkets, vehicles, and even once, his own steer that he had taken to the sale! Bob and Celeste shared many great times, as well as challenges and unthinkable tragedies. But the one thing that always shined through was their exceptional love for each other and their family. 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Cora, brothers Richard and Jimmie, sisters Irene and Linda, sons Mark and Steve, and his loving wife, Celeste. Robert (Bob) Rodgers (1940 - 2022)

Arthur A (Tony) Daringer, 80, of Gordon NE died Monday, January 31st, in Bayard NE after a long battle with cancer. He was born January 28, 1942, in Hebron, NE, to Arthur John Daringer and Lois Katherine (Hergott) Daringer. Tony's Catholic faith was always very important to him. Tony received the sacraments of baptism, his first Holy Communion and Confirmation at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, NE. As a young boy he lived with his family on a farm outside of Hebron, NE. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School and public high school in Hebron until he graduated in 1960. In 1961 Tony attended K-State and in 1962 attended Fairbury Junior College then in 1964 he joined the&nbsp;Army National Guard.

January 7th, 1967, Tony married the love of his life Judith Lynn (Casey) Daringer and was blessed with a large loving family of 9 children. The couple farmed and ranched in eastern Nebraska then in 1983 moved to Gordon, NE while Tony worked for National Farmers Organization (NFO). Tony was a very successful cattle buyer that impacted many ranches that enabled him to make lifelong friendships all over the world. &nbsp;The love that Tony had for horses ran deep. He could talk for hours about blood lines and his Skipper W Horses.

Tony is survived by his siblings Karen (Dean) Hume of Lincoln, Marilyn (Don) Hooper of Omaha, Don (Linda) Daringer of Lincoln, children Judd (Jodi) Daringer of Gordon, Kim (Aaron) Engelhaupt of Greely CO, Hudd (Bobbie) Daringer of Gordon, Theresa (Andy) Stutts of Colorado Springs CO, Heather (Chad) Cary Evans Co, Becky (Kerry) Wynne of Gering, Justin (Nikki) Daringer of Chadron, Brett Shively of Bedford TX, and 22 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He will be missed by all.

He is preceded in death by his wife Judy, his son David, daughter Holly, his mother Lois, and father Art.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022, 10:00 AM, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Gordon, NE. Inurnment will be in the Gordon Cemetery. The service will be live streamed through St. Leo’s Catholic Church Facebook page.

He was born January 28, 1942, in Hebron, NE, to Arthur John Daringer and Lois Katherine (Hergott) Daringer. Tony's Catholic faith was always very important to him. Tony received the sacraments of baptism, his first Holy Communion and Confirmation at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, NE. As a young boy he lived with his family on a farm outside of Hebron, NE. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School and public high school in Hebron until he graduated in 1960. In 1961 Tony attended K-State and in 1962 attended Fairbury Junior College then in 1964 he joined the&nbsp;Army National Guard.January 7th, 1967, Tony married the love of his life Judith Lynn (Casey) Daringer and was blessed with a large loving family of 9 children. The couple farmed and ranched in eastern Nebraska then in 1983 moved to Gordon, NE while Tony worked for National Farmers Organization (NFO). Tony was a very successful cattle buyer that impacted many ranches that enabled him to make lifelong friendships all over the world. &nbsp;The love that Tony had for horses ran deep. He could talk for hours about blood lines and his Skipper W Horses.Tony is survived by his siblings Karen (Dean) Hume of Lincoln, Marilyn (Don) Hooper of Omaha, Don (Linda) Daringer of Lincoln, children Judd (Jodi) Daringer of Gordon, Kim (Aaron) Engelhaupt of Greely CO, Hudd (Bobbie) Daringer of Gordon, Theresa (Andy) Stutts of Colorado Springs CO, Heather (Chad) Cary Evans Co, Becky (Kerry) Wynne of Gering, Justin (Nikki) Daringer of Chadron, Brett Shively of Bedford TX, and 22 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He will be missed by all.He is preceded in death by his wife Judy, his son David, daughter Holly, his mother Lois, and father Art.Memorial Services will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022, 10:00 AM, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Gordon, NE. Inurnment will be in the Gordon Cemetery. The service will be live streamed through St. Leo’s Catholic Church Facebook page.
