In 1978, they welcomed their twin boys Duff and Deaver. Throughout the years, he had a construction business and later joined the BNSF Railroad. He was an avid outdoorsman. Jim would go on long hunting trips in the mountains, fishing, and loved to fly his airplane, but being with his grandchildren was his pride and joy! Jim is survived by his mother Ethel Arrants of Kearney; wife Ginger of Bridgeport; sisters Ila Arrants and Violet (Rob) VanHorn of Kearney; children Duff (Kris) Arrants of Gering and Deaver (Ashlee) Arrants of Torrington; 3 grandchildren Austin, Taytin and Gunnar; and 2 very special children Emily and Connor Forney. Esther Martin, 106, of Gering, went to be with her Lord on March 5, 2022, at Heritage Estates. Her memorial service will be held at Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff on Tuesday, March 8th at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Reisig officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be from 12:00 p. m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. At age 17 her family moved from Colorado to Mitchell, NE where she met the love of her life Victor Martin who lived down the road from her family. On January 5, 1936, she married Victor and to that union two children were born, Beverly Jean and Judith Kay. Esther was a stay-at-home mom and wonderful homemaker. She was a farm wife and always helped in the fields. She will always be remembered for her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens she raised each year while living on the farm. She was a devoted wife and mother. In 1974 she and Victor retired and moved to town. She spent her retirement years quilting, doing needlework and baking cookies and cakes, passing them out to neighbors or anyone who stopped by for a visit. She entered her flowers, vegetables, baked goods and needlework in the Scotts Bluff County Fair for 50 years and won numerous grand champion awards.

Esther had great faith in her Lord. In 2007 she moved to the Village at Regional West where she enjoyed the daily devotion hour, visiting with the other residents and playing cards. She was a member of the Salem Congregational Church for 86 years. She played in several card clubs through the years and loved to watch bowling and golf on TV. Survivors include daughters Beverly (Kent) Greenwalt of Gering, Judy Spreier of Mitchell, grandchildren Lorenda Spreier of Powder Springs, Georgia, Troy (Lorraine) Greenwalt of Gering, Vicki (Randy) Burbach of Minatare and Scott (Deana) Spreier of Gering, great grandchildren Kaylee Spreier of Bozeman, Montana and Brittney Spreier of Gering, sister Kathryn Groskopf of Scottsbluff, sister-in-law Wanda Henkel of Scottsbluff and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Victor (2000), son-in-law Larry Spreier, sister Linda Dietz and brothers Raymond Henkel and Henry Henkel. She was a member of the Philoptochos Society of Denver, CO and Bayard, NE, Beta Sigma Phi, Red Hats and was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a city girl at heart but following the passing of her husband George in 2001, she relocated to Bridgeport to be near her children and grandchildren. Henry “Hank” Moller passed away February 28, 2022 at Monument Health in Rapid City.

Born in 1944 to Emil and Yvonne Moller, Hank was raised and graduated high school in Platte, South Dakota. He later joined the armed forces. He married the love of his life, Sharon ‘Sherry’ Wildeman in 1963. Hank and Sherry resided in Hot Springs, SD where they raised their four children: Jackie, Tammy, Tracie and Brad, until moving to Rushville, NE in 1999.

Hank and Sherry owned four packing plants over the years, the most recent being M &amp; M Packing in Rushville. Hank’s customers would attest to the fact that he was exceptional in his calling as a meat-cutter. His customer service was impeccable and many returning customers would travel from across the Midwest to bring their cattle to him.

Hank enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, Denver Broncos football and Rockies baseball, cowboy boots, and a cold Coors Light. Above all, Hank loved being around his family and friends. The love and devotion that he gave his family was incomparable. He had a one in a million side-smirk while telling his children and grandchildren, “I love you, kid” before ending conversations with them. His witty humor, generous and compassionate heart, and amazing smile will be missed terribly.

In addition to his wife Sherry (Wildeman) Moller, he is survived and will be greatly missed by his daughters Jackie (Rod) Norton, Tammy Porter, Tracie (Tim) Kuhlman and son Brad (Tracy) Moller; ten grandchildren: Tiffany Porter Willhite, Nathan Porter, Jessica Norton and Will Hilton, Alyssa (Jared) Maez, Logan Moller, Morgan Moller, Brittany (David) Wacker, Brooke Pengra, Roni (Katlin) Ruppert, and Zach Schroeder; and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Bill (Janet) Moller and Keith (Julie) Moller.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents, sister Nina (Moller) Wynia and brothers Frank Moller, Gilbert Moller, Clinton Moller, and Gary Moller.

His funeral will be held at 10 am at the Chamberlain Pier Funeral Home in Gordon followed by a luncheon at the Rushville Legion on March 11, 2022. Memorials can be sent to Security First Bank, Rushville, NE.

Jarene Kay Spencer Welling went to heaven on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at the age of 78, after a brief battle with Leukemia. She was born May 3, 1943, at Fort Robinson Army Post to Jim and Verda Marie (Robinson) Spencer Lundberg, being the oldest of four children.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She graduated from Crawford High School in 1961. In that same year on November 5, she married Jim Lemmon. To this&nbsp;&nbsp; union was born two sons, Roy and Joe. On September 11, 1976, Jarene married Keith Welling. The couple had three children, Mikel, Lyle, and Kari. Throughout her life, she was a dental&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; receptionist, business owner, entrepreneur, and rodeo goat&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; contractor.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Family was Jarene’s greatest joy. She abundantly enjoyed the times when everyone got together for special events. There were many laughs around the table as Jarene shared stories of the unusual and hilarious events that made her life so colorful. She loved taking care of her goats, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. Jarene was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Crawford, Nebraska.

She told me during our last visit about a month ago that she was sure they wouldn't be able to cure her but it was nice they were taking care of her.” She was always grateful and gracious in heart and soul.

Calvin D. Dickey, 81, died Saturday, March 5, 2022 at his home in Hemingford.

He was born September 12, 1940 in Hemingford, Nebraska to Albert and Nina (Scott) Dickey.

On September 9, 1968 he was united in marriage with Vera F. Cornett in Chadron, Nebraska.

Calvin worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a machinist for nearly 30 years prior to his retirement.&nbsp; He also worked in farming and ranching.&nbsp; He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry.&nbsp; He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.&nbsp; He was an avid racing and NASCAR fan.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.&nbsp; He was a very loving and kind man always willing to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his daughters, Milly (Larry) Craig of Hemingford and Diane (Rick) Miller of Munford, TN; 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Alfred Dickey of Princeton, MO and Roy (Carol) Dickey of Kearney; and his sister, Ella Louise Dickey of North Platte.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and 2 sisters.

Cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time.

Calvin D. Dickey (1940 - 2022)

Larry Provance was born November 17, 1939 in Scottsbluff, NE. He passed away February 16, 2022 in Chadron, NE. He was the only son of Arther W. Provance and Osie Prouty Provance. Larry had an older sister Bonnie and a younger sister Sharon. Bonnie set Larry up on a blind date with Thelma Burkey. They fell in love and married in 1959. The couple would celebrate their 63rd wedding anniversary. Thelma and Larry had three children: Valorie, Nanette and Michael.

As a teen Larry worked many jobs. He changed the marquee at the Midwest Theater, swept floors at Baumgatner’s. He worked at the Coast to Coast Store and the Army Surplus Store. He helped his father in the construction business. In fact, while helping his father build The Church at Bryant, he fell off the roof and broke both arms. Later he would work at Masek’s Auto Supply and Carr-Trumbull Lumber Company. But perhaps his greatest dream came true when Larry and Thelma purchased Arrow Building Center in Chadron. One could say, work was his greatest hobby and pleasure. He often told his children that it isn’t work if you love what you do! When asked about retiring, he would say as soon as his children retired he would too. He had a passion for books and talking. Conversations with him allowed him to share his knowledge of the bible, politics and life in general. Larry knew no strangers. If he met you, he remembered you. He was involved in all aspects of the Christian churches where he resided. He taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served as an Elder for many years. He was active in the community. He served on the school board, fair board, Chadron Hospital Board, and was Mid-America Lumber Association Chairman. Other than serving the church or community, his hobby was spending time camping with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters.

He is survived by his wife Thelma, his children Valorie and Robert Cowan, Nanette and Scott Swanson, Michael and Dawn Provance. He was a proud grandfather to Chad Cowan, Jeremy Cowan and Stephanie and Aaron Roach, Paige Swanson, Payton Swanson and Xander Provance. He had four great grandchildren: Brennya, Brianna, Adrian and Blake.

Memorial Services will be held at Chadron Christian Church, 998 East 6th Street, Chadron on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Cremation has taken place.

Frances Jean Smith died Friday, February 25, 2022 at Chimney Rock Villa Nursing Home in Bayard.&nbsp; She was 87 years old.

She was born May 31, 1934 in Alliance, Nebraska to Albert and Ella (Lance) Mundt.

Smith on October 15, 1952 in Bridgeport, Nebraska.&nbsp; She was very active in the Alliance area.&nbsp; Over the years Jean operated a day-care center, worked at the Drake and Rainbow Hotels, and also cleaned homes.&nbsp; Jean was a very helpful, kind, and caring person and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her five children, Delmar (Dee) Smith, John Smith, Derald (Rhonda) Smith, Roger Smith and Sandra (Kelly) Clark, all of Alliance.&nbsp; She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and her brothers, John and Alvin Mundt of Alliance.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Frances Jean Smith (1934 - 2022)

Peggy (Peg) Pearl Walgren was born February 8, 1929, to Charles and Pearl Riley in Hay Springs, Nebraska. She passed away from this life on February 25, 2022 at the Chadron Community Hospital at the age of 93, surrounded by her loving family.

Peg attended school in Hay Springs, graduating in 1946. She attended Colorado Woman’s College (CWC) in Denver, Colorado for two years and the University of Colorado in Boulder for two years. In 1950, Peg returned home to help run the C.L Riley family store while her mother recuperated from surgery. She then taught rural schools for 3 years; in the Wayne Walgren District, the Ashmore District and the Doon Hunter District.

Peg married Delmer Walgren on March 16, 1952 in the Methodist Church in Hay Springs. In 1954 Delmer quit farming and both he and Peg worked in the Riley store, eventually assuming ownership. They remodeled and closed out the clothing and dry goods and operated a Jack and Jill grocery store until 1965. They then purchased a 7-UP distributorship with Delmer running the pop truck up and down highway 20 and Peg doing the bookkeeping. When the distributorship was sold. Peg was selected as the inaugural Director of the new Sheridan County Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) where she continued to work for the next 19 years.

While Peg worked her entire life, she loved her fun time. She played softball in her early years and enjoyed bowling both in Hay Springs and neighboring towns. Her passion, however, was camping, boating and fishing with her family and friends, known as the Lake Crew. She spent over five decades on the shores of Angostora, days filled with endless hours of card playing and fishing, and evenings full of laughter around the campfire. Peg never wanted to miss out on anything and was always the one to help douse the fire at the end of an evening.

She was known for her fondness of cards, board games, puzzles and reading. But her passion ran the deepest for bridge, belonging to multiple clubs all her life. She was especially careful about her hair and had a standing weekly appointment at the beauty shop, making sure to keep up on local happenings. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, belonged to the Legion Auxiliary, and was active with PEO for nearly seven decades.

Peg loved her family and all things family related. She planned all year for the Walgren Family reunion and looked forward to seeing and catching up with everyone. She kept the list for decades and knew exactly whose turn it was to host! She was a proud mother who traveled miles and miles around the Panhandle with Delmer to watch her kids play sports and never missed a school event. And she thoroughly enjoyed trips to Lincoln with friends to see her beloved Cornhuskers play.

In her retirement years, Peg traveled with Delmer to various places around the country, including Alaska, Branson, Hawaii, Washington D.C., Salmon fishing in Washington state, and Texas. Arches National Park, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Palm Springs. But most of all, she got enjoyment spending time with her children and grandchildren. All who knew her appreciated her humor and sharp wit and made many memories with her. Her children’s friends all had a healthy respect for this spunky lady! She loved to sing “On the Road Again” when she was in the car and is now on her final road trip. Vaya Con Dios, Peg, you are loved and will be forever with us.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Pearl Riley, husband Delmer, and son Greg. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Annette Langford of Hay Springs, daughter Kim Walgren (Jay Bogner) of

Buffalo, Wyoming; son Brad Walgren of Laramie, Wyoming; grandchildren Sarah (Adam) England of Fort Collins, Colorado; Bradley and Annie Walgren of Laramie, Wyoming; Sarah Oertel (Brandon) of Gold Hill, Oregon; and KatiRose Callison (Paul) of Seattle, Washinigton. She also has many surviving nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the Hay Springs Methodist Church on Saturday, March 5th at 10:00 a.m., with graveside burial at the Hay Springs cemetery. Lunch will be served at the church following graveside services. All are welcome to attend and share their favorite stories of Peg, a unique and much-loved soul.

Ronald E. Clapp, 68, of McGrew, died Saturday, February 26, 2022 at his home with his loving family by his side. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at High Butte Cemetery near McGrew with Pastor Mike Clement officiating. A celebration of life will follow at 1 p.m. at Anchor Baptist Church in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made in care of the family. Ron was born a Nebraska boy on August 4, 1953 in Grant. He developed a “farmer’s heart” at ten years old when he began his first job helping on his Grandpa Keller’s farm near Grant. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1971. Ron worked on the construction of I-80 following graduation and then at Colorado Beef. He was later employed by Sterling Industrial Welding where he grew skills that eventually crafted him into a master fabricator and machinist.

Ron married Edna M. Moss on September 15, 1973 in Bridgeport. They lived in Sterling one year before moving to The Valley, where two sons were born, Greg and Adam. The family made their home in McGrew in the early eighties. Ron was very involved in the McGrew community and served as Mayor for some time.

Ron had a seventeen-year long career working at Lockwoods before he began working for BNSF Railroad the next twenty-three years. He also owned and operated his own business, Ron’s Welding and Repair, during that time.

He was a self-proclaimed gearhead. Ron loved old cars and motorcycles and even hand-built an award-winning trike. He had a special appreciation for horsepower, but was also a horse-whisperer. Maybe it started from his younger years spent on ranches in the Sandhills, but Ron had a way of understanding and connecting with horses.

Ron was active in his church, previously serving as a deacon as well as a Sunday school teacher. He helped anyone who ever asked him for help and was a friend to everyone who he met. He enjoyed telling stories under the “Who-Hut” at his home where he never ran out of iced tea for those who joined him. Family was first and foremost to Ron and he had a big embrace for all.

Survivors include his wife, Edna; sons, Greg (Emily) and Adam (Sue); six grandchildren; mother, Lydian; father, Harold; twelve siblings: Steve, Cheri, Kathy, Tina, Cecil, Mary, Tim, Jack, Cherrie, Frog, Ed, and Tony; and four brothers-in-law and one sister-in law of Edna’s family.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; two grandbabies; biological father, George; and step-mother, Carol.

Fredrick Michael Alvarado, age 57, went to be with the Lord on February 23, 2022. Fredrick Michael Alvarado better known as Mike was born on July 13, 1964. He was born and raised in Alliance, Nebraska. Mike worked for BNSF Railway for 27 years. Most importantly Mike was a father, grandfather, brother, son, husband, and a friend. A man like Mike was rare. He was generous smart, loving and kind. He had a smile that could light up a room. No one could replace what Mike meant to his family and friends. He was loved by everyone. I know when he gets to heaven, they’ll love him too.

Mike was preceded in death by his brother Billy Alvarado. He was survived by his parents Rita Fe and Michael Ventura Alvarado, his sisters, Jerri Brost and Patricia Colwell, his, wife Desiree and their beautiful children, Christopher Alvarado, Robert Alvarado, Santana Alvarado, and Keith Hedrick and his grandchildren, Adriana, Jadyn, Everett, Cameron, Zahara, Aurora, Jordan, Carter, Alexis, and Ricki.

Visitation for Mike will be at Bates-Gould Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2022 and the family will be present from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Assembly of God Church in Alliance with Pastor Jim Settle officiating. Larry for most of his career was an over the road truck driver, he was also an electrician. Up until his illness he drove semi-trucks and was known by the CB handle “T-Bone” after his fondness for the steak. He loved to talk on the CB and take his wife on hauls with him, he was at home in an 18-wheeler. His favorite saying was “Safe journey good buddy”. He will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Arloue Fibelstad; daughter Sherry Fibelstad, son Arlowe Fibelstad, son John Fibelstad, and daughter Christina Scott; brother Kenny Legrierd; grandchildren Danyel Rein, Kevin Cline, Alicia Fibelstad, Katie Chandler and Kimberly Scott; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Marissa Rein, Karlee and Britlee Franco, and Jaxon Scott. He was preceded in death by brother Duane Fibelstad, mother Florence Rundquist, and granddaughter Kristin Cline.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Matthew James Kizer of Alliance, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly on February 22, 2022 in Lawrence, Kansas. Matt was born on April 13, 1984 to parents Terrence, Sr. and Valerie Kizer in Wakonda, South Dakota. He grew up with four brothers and three sisters Terrence Jr., Jacob (Zach), twins Jay and Jared, Andrea, Sarah and Mikaela. Matt loved celebrating his birthday with his three siblings who shared his birthday and thought of them as his birthday presents. Matt&nbsp;loved being with his family and friends and was always the life of the party, or really any occasion. He had a story for everything and always knew the right time to tell it (which was all the time). He was always generous with his time and would help anyone who needed it, even if it meant driving half way across the country at a moment’s notice.

He graduated from Sturgis Brown High School in Sturgis, South Dakota after spending most of his younger years in Wakonda, South Dakota. He touched the lives of so many people, and made everyone feel like his best friend. His greatest accomplishment was being a Father to Ryan and Chloe. He made every effort to be there for them and support them in all their activities. 

Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, two close friends, and a nephew. He is survived by his grandfather, Gene Snoozy of Yankton, South Dakota;&nbsp; parents, Terry Kizer of Buffalo Gap, South Dakota and Valerie Kizer of Alliance, Nebraska; children Ryan and Chloe; and his siblings, Annie Anderson (Zane, Chance, Scout, Sage, and Blaise) of Fountain, Colorado, TJ and Christie (Mae and Ada) of Beulah, North Dakota, Jacob and Ann (Max) of Callahan, Florida, Sarah and Kris Will (Hailey, JD, Carley, and Lily) of Lawrence, Kansas, Kayla Roth (Madison, Parker, and Grace) of Alliance, Nebraska, Jay of Savannah, Georgia, and Jared of Alliance, Nebraska; a hiking partner that he got to have adventures with, and his old dog Bobo. A private memorial service is being planned in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp;

Bruce C. Matlock, Jr., 68, of Scottsbluff, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022, at Regional Wes Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Cremation has taken place and his Mass of Christian Burial service will be held at 2pm on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with a rosary service at 1pm. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. He enjoyed telling stories about the "good ol' days". He was loved by many in his community and made friends easily. Growing up he had a love for music and was an amazing drummer. He played for several bands and cherished the friends and memories he made with them along the way. Another passion in Bruce's life was his love of classic cars. He spent many hours detailing, painting, and building them in his shop or backyard. He was very proud of all of them and could tell you everything about each one he ever had. His latest project being his 1955 Ford pickup in which he envisioned he and Toby cruising down the road headed to the next car show. Bruce owned Bruce's Tavern for many years where he loved seeing his old friends and meeting new ones. He had many lifelong friends that always held a special place in his heart. Bruce was never too busy to lend a helping hand or heartfelt ear to his family and friends. The past 10 years had brought a new adventure to his life when he met his loving partner Dawn Landis, his best friend, partner in crime and soul mate. Bruce was always a kid at heart until he met Dawn where he gained a stepdaughter Desiree, and an additional partner in crime Toby aka "Poopers", they were inseparable and brought him joy every day. Bruce also loved spending time with his many other family members throughout Nebraska and Colorado. Family always meant the world to him. Bruce is survived by his partner Dawn Landis, son Obit Omar Robles (Scottsbluff), stepdaughter Desiree Neidert, grandsons Obit Omar Robles and Tobias Neidert, sister Loma Aguilar (Colorado), sister Betty Casteneda (Scottsbluff), Jenny Renteria (Lincoln), and many nieces, nephews, and friends, all of which are devastated about the untimely loss of him. John Nunes, 93, passed away at Highland Park Assisted Living on February 16, 2022. He was valiant and good-natured during his declining health. We celebrate his long, full life and honor his legacy.

John was the oldest child of Anthony and Martina Nunes. He was born in St. Paul, MN. Along with his siblings, he grew up on western Nebraska farms during the Great Depression and attended country schools in Oshkosh, Lewellen and Alliance. Sneaking into country school is where John taught himself how to play the piano. At a young age, hard work became the cornerstone of his life.

John graduated from Alliance High School in 1947, while also working a part time job at the Burlington Ice House. As a young man, he gave his railroad paychecks to his parents. He was the first in his family to complete high school. In shop class, he excelled at woodworking, which later became an enthusiastic hobby that produced many memorable remodeling and home improvement projects. After graduation, John began a day job at LaFave Dairy and worked nights for Burlington Refrigerator Express (BREX), loading ice blocks into “reefers.” In 1968, he accepted a job transfer and promotion to Peoria, Illinois. Then came a second relocation to Galesburg, Illinois, where John retired in 1990 after 38 years of service with Burlington Northern. Peoria is where he met his second wife, Betty Howell, at a singles dance. They were married on February 27, 1971, in Creve Couer, IL. After John’s retirement, they became avid travelers and moved to the Ozark Mountains of northwest Arkansas. When Betty’s health failed, John took on the steadfast role of care provider until she passed away in 2013.

John returned home to his Nebraska roots to be near his adult children and their families, especially his son, Jerry, who was battling MS. He became a popular lap for great and great-great grandkids and attended his first Nebraska football game in Lincoln, NE. After Jerry’s passing, John was given the honor of walking his granddaughter, Jayme, down the aisle at her wedding. He was known for his genuine kindness, silly wise-cracks, sense of humor and colorful assortment of plaid shirts. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. John was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents, brothers Martin, Richard and Tony, sister Jean Peterson, son Jerry Nunes, step-son John Bybee, and step-grandson David Willingham.

John Nunes (1928 - 2022)

Marlene L. Chinnock of Alliance passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

She was born on December 31, 1931 in Lincoln, NE to Henry and Amelia (Herstein) Bell.

Marlene graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1952 with a Bachelor's degree in elementary education.&nbsp; In college she was active in Towne Club and Tassels.&nbsp; On July 27, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert F. Chinnock at Salem Congressional Church in Lincoln.

In 1952, Marlene and Bob moved to Fort Sill, OK after Bob was commissioned in the U.S. Army.&nbsp; When Bob was deployed overseas, Marlene returned to Lincoln and began her teaching career.&nbsp; After Bob returned from the war, Marlene, Bob, and their children spent their lives moving throughout Western Nebraska, Colorado, and Wyoming, finally settling in Alliance in 1969.

Marlene loved people, especially children, spending much of her adult life teaching elementary school, with a specialization in pre-school special education. She was a devoted Christian who played the piano and organ in church when she was young, and she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Alliance.&nbsp; Marlene actively worked for the Alliance community, volunteering at the Carnegie Arts Center and the Box Butte General Hospital, in addition to being a member of the P.E.O. Chapter AH, American Legion Auxiliary, and BBGH Auxiliary.&nbsp; Marlene had endless energy and was full of joy and wit. She had a passion for life and loved nothing more than spending time surrounded by her family.&nbsp; Marlene and her family were blessed to celebrate her 90th birthday together on New Years Eve 2021.

Her survivors include her loving husband Bob, her children, Mary Chinnock Petroski and her husband Greg, of Kearney; Tom Chinnock and his wife Ann, of Fort Collins, CO; and Jodi Walker and her husband Jim, of Gering; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Julia Chinnock and her husband Erich and their children Tobias and Emmelyn, of Austin, TX; Lianna Bash and her husband Kyle and their expected son to be born in June, of Newcastle, WA; and Holly Marker and her husband Alex and their son Thatcher, of Scottsbluff.&nbsp; Marlene is also survived by her sister Barbara Hoffman and her husband Gary, of Lincoln, and their children Daniel, Deborah, and Diana and their families.&nbsp;&nbsp; Marlene was also loved by a large extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews who live throughout Nebraska and the United States.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 24 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Gideon Achi officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with family being present from 4-6 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to the Cattle Capital Shriner's Children's Hospital transportation fund.

He served in the U.S. Navy from March 1973 to June 1993.&nbsp; Following his career in the Navy he returned to Hyannis and worked on ranches for Al Davis and Joe Minor.

Janice K. Bellew, 72, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

She was born September 13, 1949 at Hemingford, NE to Arnold and Rachel (Klein) Mazanec.&nbsp; Following high school she became a Licensed Practical Nurse.&nbsp; For over 20 years she worked at Box Butte General Hospital and then worked at nursing homes in Alliance, Hemingford, Hay Springs and Rushville.

She was married to Mike O’Connor and to this union her children, Sean, Stephanie and Shane were born.&nbsp; She then married Charles Bellew and her children, Renee and Zachary were born.&nbsp;

Janice is survived by her children, Sean O’Connor of Chappell, NE, Stephanie O’Connor of Vermillion, SD, Shane O’Connor of Moorcroft, WY, Renee Bellew of Decatur, IL and Zachary Bellew of Alliance, 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brother, Dennis Mazanec of Hemingford.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Charles, and two grandchildren, Cory Michael and Brittany Jean O’Connor.

Memorial services will be Saturday, February 19 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Greenwood Cemetery at Chadron.

Delynn Rae (Clark) Cain, 63, of North Platte, passed away at her home on Feb. 4, 2022. Delynn was born on Jan. 16, 1959, in Alliance, to Dell and Karen Clark of Alliance. She attended kindergarten in Alliance before moving to Lexington with her family and later returned to Alliance, where she graduated from Alliance High School in 1977. She attended Chadron State College where she met the love of her life, Rodney Gene Cain. Delynn and Rodney were married at the First Christian Church in Alliance on June 8, 1979. They joined Rodney's parents at their North Platte western wear business in 1980, where they worked until the business was sold in 1999. Three children were born to this union: Jesse, Jace and Crista. They raised their children in North Platte. Delynn and Rodney were able to spend 42 wonderful years together. Delynn was blessed to be able to spend her time watching her kids play sports. She was a member of the Little League Baseball board and Platte Valley Girls softball board. She kept score at many baseball and softball games. She was able to coach many of her daughter's sports. Traveling to watch her kids at baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball and tennis tournaments gave her joy. She loved spending time with her grandsons: Jax, Brayden, Rogan and Callum. It was always Delynn's passion to be a nurse and she was able to go back to school and graduate as an RN alongside their son Jace in 2010. She earned her BSN in 2017 from UNMC. She spent 10 years as an RN and spent her last few years traveling as a labor and delivery nurse, where she met so many wonderful people. She was preceded in death by her in-laws, Gene and Marianna Cain. Delynn is survived by her parents, Dell and Karen Clark of Alliance; husband, Rodney of Lincoln; sons, Jesse (Elizabeth) Cain of Lincoln and their sons, Rogan and Callum, and Jace (Sussan) Cain of Corpus Christi, Texas, and their sons, Jax and Brayden; daughter, Crista (Colbin Beals) Cain of Hazel Park, Michigan; her brothers, JR (Julie) Clark of Wellfleet and their children Wyatt , Jaden and Madison, Doug Clark of Denver and Jake (Kerin) Clark and their children, Kadra and Kyler of Yoder, Wyoming; and many loved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. William (Bill) F Coleman passed away on February 8, 2022, in Lincoln, NE. Bill chose cremation and to be buried in the Gering Cemetery next to his wife. Bill's wish was not to have a funeral service. Born on November 3, 1944, in Sutherland, NE to Marion and Augusta (Ehlers) Coleman. Bill was the youngest of four siblings. Beginning his life in the sandhills of Nebraska on the family cattle ranch located north of Paxton. His education started in a one room school house deep in the sandhills and later after the family moved to a farm outside of Minatare NE, Bill graduated from Minatare High School in 1963. Bill then attended college at the University of Denver receiving a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. It was during his college years that he met Corrine A Roseland. Bill and Corrine were married on September 8, 1964, and started a family soon after. After college Bill and Corrine made their life in Gering where Bill started as a loan officer for Platte Valley Federal and while still in his early twenties became the President of PVF. Bill’s love of music and stereo equipment lead him to leave PVF and start his next business ventures Stereo City Warehouse and Banana’s Records and Tapes, along with other successful businesses such as Roseland Cabinets, Tug's Old West Liquor Store, Heritage Homes, and various farms he owned throughout the valley. Bill and Corrine remained together until her death in 1996. He remained in the Scottsbluff area for many years afterward working for the Chamber of Commerce and later in life was a salesman for Hinn's Mobile Homes until he retired. Shortly after retirement Bill suffered a lung blood clot, his condition normally proves fatal, but thanks to Bill’s fighting spirit and an impeccable RWMC emergency staff, Bill flatlined 5 times but survived. This health victory did not come without a cost as Bill’s health declined he moved closer to family in Cairo, NE and eventually Gateway Vista Assisted Living Center in Lincoln NE where he remained until his passing. Bill was an exceptional businessman to which many people turned to for assistance and advice. He and Corrine worked hard through their lives to build a good life for the family. He had a sense of humor that people loved and gravitated to. A great patriot he loved America, Husker football, animals, music, and his family. His final words were “I Love You” how blessed we were to have Bill in our life! The family wishes to acknowledge the exceptional care and love Bill received from the Gateway Vista staff during his time there. His survivors include his sister, Barbara Anderson of Omaha. daughter Gina Doughty of Cairo, son Mike Coleman and Teresa Coleman of Weldona, CO, daughter Barb and Todd Lewien of Omaha, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many friends. Bill then attended college at the University of Denver receiving a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. It was during his college years that he met Corrine A Roseland. Bill and Corrine were married on September 8, 1964, and started a family soon after. After college Bill and Corrine made their life in Gering where Bill started as a loan officer for Platte Valley Federal and while still in his early twenties became the President of PVF. Bill’s love of music and stereo equipment lead him to leave PVF and start his next business ventures Stereo City Warehouse and Banana’s Records and Tapes, along with other successful businesses such as Roseland Cabinets, Tug's Old West Liquor Store, Heritage Homes, and various farms he owned throughout the valley. Bill and Corrine remained together until her death in 1996. He remained in the Scottsbluff area for many years afterward working for the Chamber of Commerce and later in life was a salesman for Hinn's Mobile Homes until he retired. Shortly after retirement Bill suffered a lung blood clot, his condition normally proves fatal, but thanks to Bill’s fighting spirit and an impeccable RWMC emergency staff, Bill flatlined 5 times but survived. This health victory did not come without a cost as Bill’s health declined he moved closer to family in Cairo, NE and eventually Gateway Vista Assisted Living Center in Lincoln NE where he remained until his passing. Bill was an exceptional businessman to which many people turned to for assistance and advice. He and Corrine worked hard through their lives to build a good life for the family. He had a sense of humor that people loved and gravitated to. A great patriot he loved America, Husker football, animals, music, and his family. His final words were “I Love You” how blessed we were to have Bill in our life! The family wishes to acknowledge the exceptional care and love Bill received from the Gateway Vista staff during his time there. His survivors include his sister, Barbara Anderson of Omaha. daughter Gina Doughty of Cairo, son Mike Coleman and Teresa Coleman of Weldona, CO, daughter Barb and Todd Lewien of Omaha, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents. brother Dewey, sister Mary Louise Allison, several brothers in law. several sisters in law. nephews and cousins.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A graveside service will be on May 20, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.
