Marie S. Vallejo, 94, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020 at her home.

She was born August 11, 1925 in Alliance, Nebraska to Ysabel and Concepcion (Iyala) Soto.

In December of 1947 she married William T. Vallejo and was widowed in 1974.

Marie attended Alliance High School and worked the majority of time for the Good Samaritan Village. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and served as a community volunteer.&nbsp; Marie was dedicated to her faith, family and friends.&nbsp; She enjoyed walks, gardening and living life with joy and energy.

She is survived by her children, Mari (Jim) Pauley of Scottsbluff, Bob (Diane) Vallejo of Perry, IA and Kathee (Ron) Sanchez of Lincoln; her grandchildren, Erin Pauley of Lincoln, James Pauley of Omaha, Adrian (Challese) Sanchez of Lincoln and Aaron Sanchez of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Cameron Sanchez, Reyna Sanchez and Silas Sanchez, all of Lincoln and foster grandson, Gabe Novak of Lincoln.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brothers, Albert (Margaret) Soto of Alliance and Alfred (Jayne) Soto of Cheyenne, WY; her sister, Margaret Sanchez of Scottsbluff; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Helen and her foster sister, Rosie Arouchan.&nbsp; A special thank you to Mike and Mona Vallejo for the care of their aunt Mae.

Graveside services will be held, Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Calvary Cemetery.&nbsp; Father Tim Stoner will officiate.

Memorials may be given to Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Marie S. Vallejo (1925 - 2020

Vera B. Carter, 87, died Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Highland Park Care Center.

She was born April 16, 1932 in Rosebud, South Dakota to Axel J. and Dorothy (Larson) Tyndall.

She married Larry G. Carter on June 20, 1952 in Kentucky.

Vera was the kind of mom that every kid dreams of. She always treated all of our friends like family and they wanted to spend time at our house because of her.

She was active and athletic in high school and had a job of some sort from the age of 14. She loved camping, spending time enjoying nature, and also loved supporting her kids and grandkids in all their sporting events, school activities and recitals.

She will be remembered by many for her quick wit, strong work ethic and unconditional love. We will be forever grateful for being such a wonderful role model and faithful friend.

She is survived by her sons, Ken (Ronda) Carter of Kingman, AZ, Bruce Carter of Lincoln, Mark Carter of Las Vegas, NV and Greg (Lisa) Carter of Alliance; her daughter-in-law, Sharon Wignall of Alliance; her grandchildren, Kasey, Craig, Daphne, Chad, Kyle, Brandon, Drew and Jared, and 10 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brother, Harlan (Betty) Tyndall of Chadron; her sisters, Vurene Jewell of Alexandria, LA and Jean Gaspers of Georgetown, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her granddaughter, Erica Carter.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Alliance Berean Church.&nbsp; Pastor Glenn Johnson will officiate.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation with the family present will be on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Vera B. Carter (1932 - 2020

Wayne Warren Clark passed away February 28, 2020 in Rapid City, South Dakota at the age of 82.&nbsp; Wayne was born in Crawford Nebraska to Alvin “Pete" Clark and Edna Hume Clark on August 14, 1937.

Wayne attended elementary school in Marsland and Hemingford, Nebraska and graduated from Hemingford High School in 1955 He worked as a farm laborer before volunteering for the United States Army in 1957.&nbsp; He served in Korea as a jeep mechanic and fulfilled his military duties until 1962.&nbsp; He was very proud to have served his country.

He met Marjorie Pugh at the Box Butte County Fair and they were married on December 5, 1958 in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp; They were blessed with two children.&nbsp; Their son Rick was born on September 29, 1960 and their daughter Lori was born on September 23, 1964.&nbsp;

Wayne worked for Ernie Koester Farms near Alliance until he and Marge rented land and begin farming on their own West of Alliance.&nbsp; In 1968 they bought their farm Northeast of Berea where they lived and raised their children until they purchased a home in Alliance in October of 2017.&nbsp;&nbsp; In 2018 Wayne’s Alzheimer’s disease made it impossible for Marge to care for him at home, after that he lived in a memory care facility in Rapid City, South Dakota.&nbsp;

Wayne loved his family, farming, horses, and buying and selling cattle.&nbsp;&nbsp; He enjoyed morning “coffee” with the other farmers, as well as going to the local livestock auctions.&nbsp; Wayne was known by area ranchers for buying bred cows and selling their calves as replacements.

He loved buying and selling horses and raised quarter horses for a few years.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was an avid team roper and was very proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments in the sport of rodeo.&nbsp;&nbsp; Wayne enjoyed friends and family roping with him, and everyone was always welcome to practice in his arena at their farm.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was very involved with the Alliance Roping Club and a director for the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association.&nbsp;

Wayne was a huge sports fan.&nbsp; He enjoyed watching almost every sport.&nbsp; He loved the New&nbsp; York Yankees and the Colorado Rockies.&nbsp; His favorite football teams were the Denver Broncos and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.&nbsp; He attended at least one Colorado Rockies and one Nebraska Cornhusker football game every year for several years.&nbsp; Marge and Wayne also enjoyed going to Alliance High School and Hemingford High School sporting events.

Wayne was a kind man who loved to make jokes.&nbsp; Even when Alzheimer’s consumed his life he could still find ways to make those around him laugh.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie and his parents.

He is survived by his son Rick (Mickie) of Hemingford, his daughter Lori (Marvin) Larabee of Rapid City, South Dakota.&nbsp; His granddaughters Sara Clark (Justin Allison) of Augusta, Georgia and Alliance, Nebraska and Corley Clark and his beloved great-grandson Evryn Kozal of Alliance.&nbsp; His brother Dell (Karen) Clark of Alliance, sister Donna (Clell) Riesen of Minatare, Nebraska, and sister-in-law Diane Hugh of Grand Island, Nebraska as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the Hemingford&nbsp; Volunteer Firefighters Association.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel with Reverend Gary Belk officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery with military honors.

William “Bill” James Carr, 85, of Scottsbluff, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at his home. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Monday, March 2, 2020 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Fr. Vince Parsons as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. His Rosary Service will be held at 6pm on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. Bill was born December 5, 1934, in Lewistown, Montana, to Ray and Ruth (Stephens) Carr. He was the 5th of six children and attended schools in Christina and Broadus before graduating from Winifred, Montana, in 1953. He worked as a rancher in Montana, and security guard for Boeing in Montana, North Dakota, Missouri, and Nebraska. After settling in Nebraska, he was a milkman, plumber and owner of the Rancho Tavern in Minatare, Nebraska. Then he farmed, owned the Westward Ho Motel, and worked at Platte Valley Livestock for 18 years.

Bill married Lucille Dorothy Simac in 1955 in Hilzer, MT, and they celebrated their 65th anniversary on Saturday, February 22. Together, they raised four boys and two girls. Bill and Lucy attend St. Agnes Parish, where Bill served as an usher. Bill also served as the Mayor of Minatare in the 1970’s.

Bill was known as the “Music Man” and loved to play music for everyone on the piano, accordion, or organ. While they owned the Rancho, he had a band called “Bill Carr and the Merrymen” and held dances on the weekends. Bill loved to make people happy, and he never, ever met a stranger. He was always ready for a card game, his smile and sense of humor will never be forgotten.

Bill is survived by his wife, Lucille; sons Ray Carr of Raymond, Nebraska, Brett (Pam) Carr of Gibbon, Nebraska, and Calvin Carr of Omaha, Nebraska; daughters Cindy (Mark) Hald of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and Cheryl (Bryon) Mowry of Sheridan, Wyoming; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren; brother John Carr, Belmopan, Belize, and numerous sister and brother in laws, as well as nieces and nephews.

His son Rex, his parents, three sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Karen Janette Cline entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 28th, at her home at the age of 77. Karen was born March 21, 1942 to Ellis and Gayle Hammock. Karen grew up in Scottsbluff and graduated in 1960. Karen was united in marriage to Charles Cline on January 7, 1961 in Harrisburg, Nebraska. To this union, two children were born, Terry and Teena. Karen was a homemaker and took in all cats and dogs that showed up.

Karen and her family moved to Culbertson, Nebraska until the death of Chuck, and then returned to Scottsbluff with her son Terry to be closer to her family. Karen loved to take care of the yard, flowers and garden. Karen was always busy in the summer canning and making jellies from her many fruit trees. She also loved to sew and do crafts.

Karen is survived by her son Terry, of the home, and daughter Teena (Jim) Winski of Denver, Colorado; granddaughter Alice Jones, of Denver, Colorado; and grandson Ryan Jones, of Bozeman, Montana; brothers Mike (Lois) Hammack of Gering, Nebraska; and Tim Hammack of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-laws Chris and David Cline of Wyoming, and several caregivers.&nbsp;

Karen was preceded in death by her husband Chuck, her parents Ellis and Gayle Hammack of Scottsbluff, and brother Larry Hammack of Omaha, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Panhandle Humane Society or R.W. Hospice. A memorial service will be held at a later date this Spring, when the Lilacs bloom.

Todd Eugene Freeburg, 60, of Bridgeport, passed away Thursday, Feb 27, 2020 at the Medical Center of The Rockies in Loveland, CO. His funeral service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at the ACTS United Pentecostal Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Harold Park, Sr. officiating. Todd was born on May 30, 1959 in Bridgeport, NE, the second of four sons to Russell and Beulah (Hinman) Freeburg. Todd grew up in Dalton, NE, graduating from Dalton High School 1978, and graduated from WNCC with a degree in Building Construction in 1980. Todd lived to serve God. His ultimate goal was to worship Jesus throughout eternity which was evident by his last Facebook post, “I don't know what you came to do but I came to praise the Lord”. The most important thing in his life was Jesus and His word. Todd was a certified jail minister and volunteered to preach the gospel as a Chaplain to those behind bars, this was the heartbeat of his life. Todd will never be judged concerning riches as he often said “you brought nothing into this world and you can take nothing with you”. Todd was dad to 3 beautiful children and 6 gorgeous grandchildren. He enjoyed family gatherings and attending grandchildren's events. He attended Acts UPC church in Scottsbluff and a member of the Son's of the Legion in Dalton. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, photography, bee keeping, coin collecting, wood working, and worked as a machinist for over 30 years.

Todd is survived by his parents, Russell and Beulah Freeburg of Torrington, WY; son Eric (Moriama) Freeburg and children Lorelei and Skylar Heineman of Scottsbluff; daughters Crystal (Nathan) Edmunds and children Haley and Wyatt of Bayard, and Connie Kabugo and children Sean and Jonathan of Lincoln; brothers Leonard (Lori) of Torrington, WY, Ward (Cheryl) of Dalton, NE and Gary (Denise) Johnstown, CO; step-children Patricia, Alsey, and Lance of CO; bother in Christ, Harold Park; numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and friends.

He was proceeded in death by his second wife Peggy Freeburg.

Todd Eugene Freeburg, 60, of Bridgeport, passed away Thursday, Feb 27, 2020 at the Medical Center of The Rockies in Loveland, CO. His funeral service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at the ACTS United Pentecostal Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Harold Park, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Chimney Rock Cemetery in Bayard. Viewing will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Clark Edward Cole, age 52, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 23rd, 2020, at his home in LaGrange, Wyoming. Clark was born in Omaha, Nebraska on July 24th, 1967.

He is survived by his by his daughter, Breanna Smith-Cole of Alliance, Nebraska; son, Johnathan Cole of Missouri; his older siblings, Craig Cole of Iowa, Cindy Horrocks of Gering and Casey Cole of Scottsbluff. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Cole of Iowa and his mother, Linda Gilson of Iowa. Extended family includes 2 grandchildren; 10 nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

He was a man who liked to smile and laugh. He had gift for letting the negative things in life pass on by. He was involved in many sports and outdoor activities for the earlier years of his life until he suffered numerous strokes and heart attacks. He had outlived the doctor’s life expectations by many decades. He enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles and spending time with his pet greyhound, Jersey. His family and friends will always remember him as a genuinely kind and helpful person that didn't hesitate to let you know what was on his mind.

A memorial is scheduled for Monday, March 2nd, at 11:00 am with a reception to follow at the Valley Bible Church located at 1422 9th Avenue in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Jason Schmidt and John Norwood will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Clark’s life. Clark Cole (1967-2020

Sister Mabel Meng, 93, passed away Monday, February 24, 2020 at Marian Residence in Alliance, NE.

She was born on May 21, 1926 at Mansfield, Nebraska, a community in northern Sioux County near Ardmore, SD, to George and Johanna (Mader) Meng.&nbsp; She was baptized at the Church of St. Aloysius in Ardmore.&nbsp;

Sister Mabel followed the Lord’s call to the Sisters of St. Francis and entered as a candidate at Marycrest Convent in Denver on September 1, 1945.&nbsp; She professed her vows on August 16, 1947 and took the name of Sr. M. Aloysius. Later in her ministry she would change her name to Sister Mabel.

She began as a teacher at St. Francis Mission, SD from 1947 to 1952.&nbsp; At that time she continued her education at St. Mary’s College in Xavier, KS with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics in 1954. She then received her degree as a Registered Nurse from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Minot, ND in 1960 and then a B.S. degree in nursing from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI in 1961.&nbsp; She continued with a Master’s Degree in Nursing from Catholic University of American in Washington, DC in 1962.

From 1962 to 1965 she was a nursing instructor at St. Francis School of Nursing in Minot, ND. In 1965 she became the Director of School of Nursing 3 year program and the first Director at Minot State College of BSN nursing program serving there until 1975.&nbsp;&nbsp; Following a 2 year assignment as a clinical supervisor in St. Louis, MO she would then move to Alliance in 1977.&nbsp; Here she would work as Director of Nursing at St. Joseph’s Gerontology Center and later as Inservice Director.&nbsp; In 1989 when St. Joseph’s transitioned into Highland Park Care Center, Sister Mabel continued there as Staff Development Coordinator until January 31, 2000.&nbsp; Sister Mabel would then continue in her local ministry through Holy Rosary Church and Marian Residence until retiring in 2017.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Albert and Frederick, and her sisters, Christine Kruse, Betty Nozicka, Catherine Strattman and Martha Hoevet.&nbsp; In addition to her Franciscan family she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Tim Stoner officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.&nbsp; A wake service will be Friday, Feb. 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Marian Chapel.

Funeral services for Alta McIntosh age 100 of Mullen formerly of Whitman, will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 at 11:00 AM MT at the Mullen United Methodist Church in Mullen with Pastor Insung Kim officiating. Alta Maxine McIntosh passed away at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Mullen, NE on February 23, 2020 with family by her side. She was born on November 13, 1919 at Keyapaha, South Dakota to Jess and Myrtle (Hollingshead) Casteel being the eighth of ten children, six brothers and three sisters.

She graduated from Junior High School in Long Pine, Nebraska on May 17, 1934 and from High School in Long Pine, Nebraska on May 28, 1937.

On March 20, 1938 she was married to Jeremiah (Jerry) c. Geist in Long Pine, NE and to this union two children were born. The family moved to Hyannis, NE and then in the summer of 1944, Alta moved to the Mullen, NE area with her children and then moved to Whitman, NE. After moving to Whitman, she operated a small café serving ranchers delivering cattle to Whitman to be shipped out by rail and also for railroad track crews performing major track upgrades on the CB&amp;Q RR.

She then went to work at the IGA grocery store in Whitman.

In 1955 she married Clifford E. McIntosh and to this union one son was born.

She was employed as a postal clerk at the Whitman Post Office in 1965 and eventually became Postmaster and held that position until retirement on November 1, 1999.

In addition to serving on the Whitman School Board for a period of time. She was a charter member of the Whitman Women’s Club; member of the Whitman Cemetery Board; member of National Association of Postmasters of the US (NAPUS) an a member of the Hyannis Chamber of Commerce and Hyannis Eagles Auxiliary.

Alta enjoyed traveling and attending NAPUS Conventions which were held in major cities throughout the US. She also loved trips to the Rosebud Casino and was the type of person who never considered anyone to be a stranger.

She was preceded in death by her husband Cliff McIntosh as well as her parents, and her six brothers, and three sisters.

She is survived by her daughter Delores (Leroy) Evans of Whitman; sons Richard A (RaeAnne) Geist of Alliance, NE and Clifford (Butch) M. McIntosh of Broken Bow, NE as well as twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and twenty-one great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three step-great-grandchildren and six step-great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

On June 2, 1963 Alta was Baptized according to the Discipline of the Methodist Church in Whitman, NE by Pastor Earl H. Reed and on May 17, 1964 received full membership into the Whitman Methodist Community Church.

Alta McIntosh (1919 - 2020

Paul Henry Matejka entered into eternal rest with his Creator on February 9, 2020 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, Nebraska. He was born on April 30, 1920 in Omaha, Nebraska to Paul and Henrietta (Dobrovolny) Matejka.

He attended school in Omaha. He is a member of the Alliance United Methodist Church.

Paul left Omaha at age 16 to join the Civilian Conservation Corps working in the Black Hills to help support his family in Omaha.

Paul moved to Alliance in August, 1942 to work for the C.B.&amp;Q. Railroad. His railroad career was interrupted by military service in the United States Navy, from February 26, 1943 to December 11, 1945. After his service he earned his GED. He then returned to Alliance, where he continued to work for the Railroad until his retirement in 1985.

Paul married Ruth Gay Marie Munger on May 9, 1948 at the home of Ruth’s parents, in Alliance, Nebraska. Paul and Ruth raised five children, Paul Jr., Merrily, Susan (Susie, Jane, and John.

In his free time Paul enjoyed tending to his house plants and gardening. He was composting before composting became popular. He enjoyed traveling. In addition to numerous road trips around the contiguous United States, he also traveled to Hawaii. He visited several countries in Europe including Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, and Czechoslovakia where he visited some cousins in a small town near Prague. He toured Australia and New Zealand with Rev. Clarence and Madge Buehler. In 2010, he traveled to Alaska, rode the vista-dome train and flew around Denali (Mount McKinley).

Those waiting to greet him at Heaven’s gates include his wife Ruth, daughter Susie, son John, and great granddaughter Mackenzie; all of his siblings: Elizabeth, Joseph, Helen, John, Don and their spouses, and all of Ruth’s siblings and their spouses.

Those remaining to treasure his memory include son, Paul, Jr. and wife Susan Matejka of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughters Merrily and husband Jim DeBusk and Jane Matejka of Alliance, and son-in-law Neil Kloppenborg of Eustis, Nebraska; grandchildren: Amanda and husband John Payne, Tonya Matejka, Ian Rea, Eric and wife April DeBusk, Scott and wife Jennie DeBusk, Lisa DeBusk, Chris DeBusk, Brandie and husband Steve Latimer, Brian and wife DeAndra Shores. Paul Henry Matejka (1920 - 2020

Georgia passed away February 16, 2020 at the Goshen Care Center in Torrington, WY. A memorial service may be held at a later date.

Georgia Mae (Hennings) Lewis, Ayars, Solterbeck was born February 22, 1923 to John G. Hennings and Florina M. (Mills) Hennings in Hemingford, NE.&nbsp; Georgia attended and graduated from Hemingford High School class of 1940.&nbsp; Georgia started Business School in Grand Island, NE before taking a civil service exam and going to Washington D.C. to help during the World War II.&nbsp; In Washington D.C., she met and married Ersel O. Lewis on October 4, 1942 at Bolling Field Army Chapel.&nbsp; After getting out of the service they moved to Hemingford, NE to farm north of town.

To this marriage, 2 sons were born, Kent D. Lewis and Timothy W. Lewis.&nbsp; Ersel passed away in February, 1988 in Arizona where they had retired, after which Georgia moved to Torrington, WY.&nbsp; She met and married Frank W. Kevin Cleve Clemens was born Oct. 17, 1959, in O’Neill, NE, to Lyle Twain and Norma Jean (Farrier) Clemens. He attended school in Clay Center, Chappell, and Kenesaw, NE, graduating from Kenesaw as a Regent Scholar. He earned a marketing degree from UNK.

He was an avid fisher, hunter, and golfer, and was an amazing southpaw pitcher in his school days. Kevin lived most of his life in the Kenesaw/Wood River area, but moved to Scottsbluff six years ago to be closer to family.

He was a hard worker, working locally at Cenex, Regional West, and Wal-Mart, but his favorite job was owning “Through My Window”, a consignment shop in Grand Island.

When his health began to decline, he became a treasure hunter and sold some of his collectibles online. Per his request, the family will hold a Memorial Garage Sale this spring.

Kevin was given an amazing gift when doctors told him he had a year or two to live. The year he was given gave him a chance to mend rifts and prepare his soul for his journey. He told his family often that this had been the best year of his life.

Kevin died Feb. 15, 2020, in Scottsbluff. He is survived by his sisters: Valerie (Mike) Isom of Allen, Carol Dawn (the late Rodney) Shaw of Nelson, Kimberly (Ted) Schaaf and Lisa (Kent) Hadenfeldt of Scottsbluff. Kevin was a fun uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his best pal/dog Buddy.

A private celebration of life will be held this spring at his favorite fishing hole.

Peggy Jean (Muhr) Kreiling, aged 86, of Minatare, passed away on February 12, 2020 at Regional West Medical Center. Peggy was born on October 9, 1933 in Bridgeport, Nebraska to Allen and Helen (Hutchinson) Muhr. She received her diploma from Bridgeport High School in 1951. She then worked at the Treasurer’s office in Morrill County, followed by the Bell Telephone Company.

On July 10, 1954 she married the love of her life, Munroe. They lived all their lives in Minatare except for 8 years in which they lived in Guymon, Oklahoma. They both enjoyed being active in their community and were loved by all. Peggy enjoyed being a homemaker, gardening at home and downtown and volunteering at the library.

Survivors include sons Gary (Marcella) Kreiling and Rick Kreiling; grandkids Melissa (Chris) Lally and Heather (Aaron) Rutz; great granddaughter Annora; great granddogs Josie and Ziggy; brother Jerry (Carolyn) Muhr; brothers-in-law Robert Sharp, Carroll Mount and Daryl (Joyce) Kreiling; sister-in-law Sharon Kreiling; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceeded in death by her husband of 61 years, son Kevin Kreiling, her parents, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

Celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 22 at the Minatare Community Center (Main Street) from 2 to 4 PM. Inurnment will take place at the East Lawn Cemetery near Minatare. Lucy was born in Bluefield, Virginia in 1921, to parents Margaret Lucille and Douglas William Call. She was fifth of six siblings. Her family moved to Bluefield, West Virginia. She attended Bluefield High School and then Bluefield College. She played basketball and liked to ice skate. Lucy was especially fond of hiking in the beautiful mountains of Virginia.

After two years of college she went to work for the Navy Department in Norfolk, Virginia. This is where she met her future husband, Richard “Dick” Corey who was in the Navy. Three weeks later they got married in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1944. After Dick was honorably discharged, they moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1946, where their son, Richard “Rick” was born.

Lucy remained active in sports, especially golf. She volunteered at the hospital when it was located in downtown Scottsbluff. Plymouth Congregational Church benefitted greatly by the many offices and committees she was involved in. She was a member of PEO Chapter FC and enjoyed being a part of this worthy organization. Both Lucy and Dick traveled extensively and found great joy in it.

Phyllis J. Conley, 94, went home to be with the Lord she loved and served surrounded by her loving family, Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Box Butte General Hospital. She joined her beloved husband in heaven as the sun set, exactly 10 years to the day of his passing.

Phyllis Conley was born December 26, 1925 on a farm in Plainview, NE.&nbsp; She was the first of nine children born to her parents Alvin and Esther (Benson) Butts.&nbsp; In 1929 her family moved to Moorcroft, WY. She attended country school with her siblings as a youth and had to “walk two miles just to get there." She attended high school in Moorcroft, WY, participating in numerous extracurricular activities. While attending high school she trained to work for North Western Bell as a switchboard operator. Phyllis graduated in 1944 and that same year married her fiancé Clifford Conley. Clifford had returned on a short fifteen day delay from his military service and after would be in route to Germany to serve in WWII.&nbsp; The two decided to elope and were married in Broadus, Montana. Upon her husband’s return from war they moved to Newcastle, WY where their family of two steadily grew to a family of five. In 1949 she accepted the Lord into her heart in the Baptist Church. In 1962 they moved to Chadron, NE where Phyllis worked with her husband operating a Texaco station. In 1973 they moved to Alliance, NE where Phyllis worked as a wife and mother caring for her family. She also became an avid member of the Berean church and helped with their Awanas youth program for twenty years.&nbsp;

Phyllis took great pride in her role as a homemaker and was very talented at quilting and embroidery.&nbsp; Her favorite though, was crocheting and her afghans and doilies were a coveted treasure amongst her family and friends. Phyllis was known for her huge heart and was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family.&nbsp; Her love did not end there though, she enjoyed the title of mother and grandmother to many adults and children whom she often spoke of and reflected on fondly. She shared her faith and love especially with her beloved congregation at the Berean church.

She will be dearly missed by her son Jim (Twila) Conley of Alliance, NE, and daughter Bonnie (Byford) Avery of Alliance, NE. Phyllis will also be missed by her sisters Alta Johnston of Oklahoma and Linda (Olen) Pedie of Bottineau, ND. She is also survived by her grandchildren Christine (Steve) Price of Cheyenne, WY, Michelle (Joe) Fritz of Westminster, CO, Cody (Bergetta) Conley of Chadron, NE, Kyren (Chris) Gibson of Alliance, NE; and seven great grandchildren, Jared and Rachel Price, Tucker and Gracie Fritz, Landon Hamilton, and Dylan and Jackson Conley. In heaven she joins her husband Clifford Conley, her son and daughter-in law Earl and Doris (Hensel) Conley, her granddaughters Delana Hamilton and Jennifer Avery, and great grandchild Zachary. She also joins her parents and siblings Donald Butts, Allen Butts, Harvey Butts, Ray Butts, Lyle Butts, and Mary Jones.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Alliance Berean Church, 1639 Emerson Avenue in Alliance. Pastor Glenn Johnson will officiate. Phyllis J. Conley (1925 - 2020

Darlene Emma Rust passed from this world in the early morning of February 8, 2020. She was three weeks from her 96th birthday.

Memorial Services will be Friday, February 14, 2020 at 1pm at the Rock of Ages Church in Gordon, NE.

Darlene spent her entire life with the family that she loved, except for several years in California during WWII, where her husband William “Bill” worked as a machinist for Douglas Aircraft Corp. Batesland was her home.

As a young girl, Darlene spent her summers herding the family’s cattle on horseback with her brother Orville on open range north of Batesland to the American Horse Creek area. She attended high school at Batesland until her marriage to Bill in 1941. She moved to Los Angeles and came back to Batesland during the war. She and Bill bought a small farm west of Batesland in 1946 where she lived until her death.

Three children were born to Darlene and Bill, Delbert in 1943, Virgil in 1944 and Virginia in 1946. Three foster children arrived in the early 1960s after their father’s death, the twins, Valentina, Katrina and Gregory.

In addition to being a mother, homemaker, care giver, and gardener, she also spent 25 years as a baker at the Batesland Public Schools. She and husband Bill organized and led the Batesland Troopers 4-H Club for a number of years.

After retirement from the school system in 1990, Darlene busied herself with home cooking, always finding a place at the table for a new guest. Darlene’s roast beef dinners with potato salad will be missed. Collecting cookbooks and patchwork quilts gave her additional pleasure. We will miss her greatly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Mary Schwarting, her siblings Marvin Schwarting, Loveletta Kehn, Orville Schwarting, Lowell Schwarting and Evan Donald Schwarting.

Darlene is survived by her children Delbert (Carol) Rust of Idaho, Virgil Rust of Batesland, SD, Virginia “Ginny” Mueller of Batesland, SD, grandchildren Eric (Shannah) Rust of Washington, Aaron Rust of Idaho and great granddaughter Avery Rust of Washington,her brother Norman (Eloise) Schwarting of Gordon, her sister Alice Thurlow of Colorado and their extended families,&nbsp;and many nieces and nephews throughout the nation.

A memorial has been established for the Rust Memorial Homestead Scholarship Fund and donations may be sent to First National Bank, PO Box 290, Gordon, NE 69343.

She and husband Bill organized and led the Batesland Troopers 4-H Club for a number of years.After retirement from the school system in 1990, Darlene busied herself with home cooking, always finding a place at the table for a new guest. Darlene’s roast beef dinners with potato salad will be missed. Collecting cookbooks and patchwork quilts gave her additional pleasure. Royce Eldon Daugherty, 79, passed away peacefully at his home northeast of Alliance on February 11, 2020.&nbsp; He was born October 24, 1940 in Alliance to Arch and Gladys (Lindberg) Daugherty where he farmed and ranched his entire life.

Royce attended Alliance area schools and graduated from Alliance High School in 1958.

On October 30, 1960 Royce and Darlene K. Bauer were united in marriage.&nbsp; From that union three children were born, Kari, Janelle, and Doug.

The Future Farmers of America (FFA) State and Area Star Degree was awarded to Royce on October 11, 1961 in Kansas City, MO. In 1969, the Alliance Jaycees bestowed Royce with the Outstanding Farmer Rancher Award.

Royce never really retired, choosing to spend his golden years tinkering on his property or working cattle. Nights were spent reading historical books or watching “oldies” or comedy shows on TV.

Royce is survived by children daughter; Kari (Chris) Adams and son Doug (Jackie, grandchildren, &nbsp;Kyle (fiancé, Samantha, Dustin, and Lex Daugherty, Kelsey (Josh) and Cale Adams. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, many friends and neighbors, and Lucy his beloved wonder dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill, sister Darlene, daughter Janelle, and nephew Steve.

Royce was a private, no frills kind of man so in lieu of flowers please donate to 4-H or FFA Organizations, PAWS or a memorial of your choice in his name.

Funeral service will be Monday, February 17 at 2:00 pm at Bates-Gould Chapel with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Alliance.&nbsp; Visitation will be Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at the funeral home.&nbsp; Please wear your favorite jeans, boots and hat in memory of him.

Donn "Donnie" George Rasnic, 68, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Box Butte General Hospital.

Donn was born December 30, 1951, in Greeley, Colorado, to Donald and Ethel Rasnic. Donn spent his youth in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, until the family moved to Sterling, Colo., in 1965. After graduating from Sterling High School in 1969, he attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling and Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

He worked in the Loveland, Colo., area and Lafayette, LA, until 1979 when Donn began a thirty-four year career with Burlington Northern Railway in Alliance, Nebraska.&nbsp; He held numerous jobs as a clerk and worked his entire career in the Alliance storehouse and yards, retiring in March 2013 as a taxi driver.

Donn was a masterful gardener, an animal lover, an avid reader, a gun collector and a skilled marksman. He never found a crossword puzzle that he didn’t complete. He followed his beloved Colorado sports teams until the end.

He was preceded in death by his parents in 2011.

Donn is survived by two brothers, Zane (spouse Rita) Rasnic of Kalispell, Montana, and Lyle (spouse Cindy) Rasnic, of Gillette, Wyoming, and one sister, Jean (fomerly Schott) Ladao (spouse Brennan, of Eureka, California, and several nieces and nephews. His last years were made infinitely better thanks to his caretaker and best friend, Lori Lore.&nbsp;

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Donn's dream of an animal rescue for Alliance will soon come to fruition thanks to his creation of a trust establishing the Rasnic Rescue &amp; Refuge. Jacqueline Carol (Braden) Jelinek, 75 passed away Saturday February 8, 2020 at her home in Alliance, Nebraska.

She was born September 30, 1944 at St Joseph’s Hospital in Alliance to Donald and Margret (Mahon) Braden.&nbsp; She grew up in the Sandhills enjoying ranch life, her many animals and horseback riding

She graduated from Alliance High School in 1963.

She married Kenneth Jelinek in June of 1963 and they had 2 children James and Jandell.

Jacqueline moved to Kansas and managed a large supper club in the 70’s and 80’s. She then changed career paths in the 90’s and became a House Director for Sororities in California, Arizona and Colorado until she returned to Alliance in 2004. She came back to her home town to be close to family and her grandkids.

Jacqueline is survived by her children Jim (Laurie) Jelinek of Alliance and Jan (Paul) Jelinek-Warner of Greeley, Colorado. He grandkids Zach (Megan) Jelinek of Alliance, Chelsey (Chris) Long of Alliance, Emilie Warner of Greeley Colorado and Great Granddaughter Scarlett Long of Alliance.&nbsp; Jacqueline also made and kept many dear friends along the way.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday February 15th at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Gideon Achi officiating.

Because of her Love for Animals the family request memorials be given to PAWS (Providing Animals with Shelter) in Alliance.

Jacqueline Carol (Braden) Jelinek (1944 - 2020

Benjamin James Garvin was born in Crawford, NE, on October 27, 1979, to Larry and Ann Garvin.&nbsp; He attended school in Crawford and managed to overcome the trauma of having his mother as one of his teachers in his elementary grades.&nbsp; After graduation from Crawford High School in 1998, B.J. enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a mechanic.&nbsp; He proudly served with 5th Battalion 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division Fleet Marine Force until his honorable discharge in 2002.

Following his discharge from the Marines, BJ worked as an auto mechanic in Vista, CA for several years before returning home to Crawford and remained here until his sudden death on February 6, 2020.&nbsp; During the intervening years, he worked for Jake and Vicki Wasserburger, Dave Moody, Jim’s Well Service, and most recently, NE Department of Transportation.

On September 24, 2011, BJ and Robyn Rincker were united in marriage. &nbsp;He was elated with his instant family of daughter, Aly and son Owen.&nbsp; The family grew with the addition of their sons, Ben and Case, and BJ spent many, many hours being the proud dad of four.

BJ’s passion was working on cars.&nbsp; He loved what he did and there was never a project too big.&nbsp;

He loved camping with his family and the 4th of July was always one his favorite holidays.&nbsp; We’ll always remember his fried chicken and making homemade ice cream.&nbsp; He was an avid hunter and deer season was the one time that he was unreachable.&nbsp; It was probably his second favorite holiday.&nbsp; BJ was a man that everyone could count on.&nbsp; If you needed anything, day or night, he’d be there.&nbsp;

BJ was preceded in death by his father, Larry Garvin, and brother, Michael Garvin; his grandparents, Bea Garvin and Jim and Mariellen Soester, as well as his uncle, James Bruer Soester.&nbsp; He leaves behind his much-loved wife, Robyn and their four children – Aly Dane (and fiancé, Matt Colwell, Owen Rincker, and Ben and Case Garvin;&nbsp; Robyn’s father Roger and Chris Rincker of Mirage Flats, Robyn’s grandparents, Everett and Lola Rincker of Chadron, Robyn’s sister and husband, Kelly and Leon Garza of Chadron, and their children, Brittany and Aiden; Robyn’s brother, Seth and wife Katie and three daughters Laila, Stella, and Ava.&nbsp; In addition, he is survived by his mother, Ann Stephens of Crawford; nieces, Kaylee and Tamra Garvin; nephew, Shawn Garvin; grandfather, Ben Garvin; his uncle, Don Perham, and three cousins, Sondra, Lisa, and Greg.

Peggy Marie (Richardson) Fritzler, 89, passed away Friday, February 7, 2020.

She was born July 15th 1930 in Wood Lake, NE to Samuel Richardson and Fern (Harris) Richardson. Peggy graduated from Valentine, NE High School and then attended Hastings College where she received her degree in Elementary Education. She then moved to Hemingford, NE where she taught 4th grade for one year.

She then moved back to Alliance NE and worked a job she loved at Northern Plains Roundup for Dwight Sloan.

In 1953 she met Fred Fritzler and they were married Jan 17th 1954.&nbsp; A devoted farm wife for most of her life, one of her happiest days was the one when she moved to town.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was a faithful member of St John’s Lutheran Church and was active in Bible Study group and Women’s Quilting sessions. She also played the piano for Wednesday Night Services and taught many children the basics and joy of piano.&nbsp; Her spare time was kept busy raising 3 children, cooking delicious meals and spending time with friends and family.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Monte) Evans and her two sons, Steve (Vickie) Fritzler and Douglas (Delores) Fritzler. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Sarah (Evans) Christiansen, Lindsay (Evans) Percival, Luke Evans, and Michael Fritzler, and two great grandchildren Avery and Jakoby Christiansen, as well as her nephew, Bill Richardson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister and her beloved husband Fred.&nbsp;

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday February 13th at St John’s Lutheran Church in Alliance, NE with Pastor Tim Stadem officiating.
