CHADRON, Neb. – Chadron State athletics has officially announced its football schedule for the upcoming 2025 season, which features four home games, a Division I opponent and a Week 8 bye.

The Eagles' home dates at Elliott Field at Don Beebe Stadium will be September 13 at (vs. Black Hills State), September 27 (vs. Colorado Mesa), October 11 (vs. New Mexico Highlands) and November 8 (vs. Western Colorado). CSC's home opener against Black Hills State will kick off at 6 p.m., with the other three home games starting at 1 p.m.

For the second consecutive season, Chadron State will begin the season early with a "Week 0" game. This year, the Eagles will open on the road against the University of Northern Colorado, a Division I (FCS) opponent which currently competes in the Big Sky Conference, on Saturday, August 30. 

The following Saturday, September 6, Chadron State will complete its nonconference schedule by traveling to take on in-state rivals Nebraska Kearney. The two schools will compete once again for the "Good Life Trophy," a traveling trophy that was introduced last season for what is scheduled to be a yearly renewed rivalry between the schools.

Chadron State's home opener and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener will be Saturday, September 13 against Black Hills State. The Eagles will play in consecutive weeks for the first eight games of the season prior to having a bye week during the week of Saturday, October 26. 

The September 27 game against Colorado Mesa will serve as both homecoming and the Eagles' Hall of Fame weekend. Senior Day will take place during CSC's home finale against Western Colorado on November 8.

Highlights of the road RMAC games on CSC's schedule include the annual Eagle-Rock Trophy showdown with South Dakota Mines in Rapid City on November 1 and the regular season finale at defending RMAC champions CSU Pueblo on November 15. 

Chadron State is coming off a competitive 3-8 season where the Eagles lost five games by seven points or fewer, including two one-score losses to nationally ranked opponents. 

The Eagles are set to return quarterback DJ Ralph, who battled injuries but was named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week after one of the five games he started for CSC last season. Key leaders from a defensive unit that ranked second in the RMAC in total defense and third in scoring defense also return, including All-Region safety Dax Yeradi and linebacker Logan O'Brien. Chadron State also welcomed a class of 38 signees on National Signing Day this February.

All Eagle games, home and away, will be broadcast live with a video feed on the RMAC Network and on the radio on Double Q County 97.5/105.9 FM with Dave Collins. Further information on tickets will be available soon.

Chadron State began spring practice this past Wednesday. The Eagles' intrasquad spring game will take place on Friday, April 25.

Results: Quad of outdoor meets signal start of prep track season

DENVER – Chadron State used the long ball in key spots to earn a doubleheader sweep of the Regis Rangers, earning a 16-3 run-rule victory followed by a 6-2 comeback win on Friday in Denver. 

Playing as the home team in Regis's ballpark after the series was moved from Chadron due to weather, CSC only needed four innings to put up a season-high 16 runs in the first game of the day, then rallied with a five-run sixth inning to stun the Rangers in the nightcap. 

Each time, home runs played a role. Sophia Brennan crushed two home runs in her first two at-bats of the opening game of the series, finishing with seven RBI, to help CSC race out to a 10-0 lead after two innings of play. 

Then, in game two, Brogan Allen and Lauren Zimmerman hit fifth and sixth-inning bombs, respectively, to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead before the Eagles strung hits together to add on. 

Beyond the offensive fireworks, Chadron State's pitching did not allow an earned run through the two games. Tori Haug pitched a five-inning complete game one, scattering six hits with four strikeouts, before Kenzi Garner also threw five innings and gave up two unearned in game two. Belle Akins escaped a sixth-inning jam and ended up with the win in relief after CSC's rally, pitching two one-hit innings. 

With the two victories, Chadron State is now 11-21 and improved to 7-19 in RMAC play. Regis fell to 12-23 overall and 11-15 in conference. The wins snap an eight-game losing streak for CSC and marked just the second RMAC doubleheader sweep of the season for the Eagles.

After three singles and a wild pitch produced a run, Brennan hit a full-count, two-out, three-run home run to stake CSC to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Eagles catcher, who entered the game with two home runs on the season, fully doubled her total just an inning later.

After Elizabeth Thorngren and Katelynn Czerpak set the table with singles, Aliyah Rothstein drove home a run with a sacrifice fly. Jazlyn Arvizo singled and Lauren Zimmerman walked to load the bases for Ashland Baca, who bounced into an RBI fielder's choice to make it 6-0.

The Supernovas come off one of the most impressive weekends in franchise history, pulling off their second-ever reverse over Indy on March 13 before beating the Orlando Valkyries for the first time in 2025 with a four-set win on March 15. Supernovas outside hitter&nbsp;Brooke Nuneviller&nbsp;eclipsed the 500-kill mark in her Supernovas career on 3/13 at Indy and now sits with a total of 529 kills in her two seasons with Omaha. With 18 digs on Saturday versus the Valkyries, she became the first player in PVF history to achieve 500 kills and 500 digs. Setter Natalia Valentín-Anderson also reached a milestone against Indy, recording her 1,000th career assist with the franchise. Her Omaha career total stands at 1,003. Middle blocker Kaitlyn Hord is three blocks away from becoming the third player in PVF history to record 100 stuffs. She recorded 42 blocks in 72 sets last season in Columbus.&nbsp;

The Supernovas have the biggest home court advantage in pro volleyball, but they've also been mighty on the road. That includes the league's best road record at 8-2. Omaha and Orlando (4-3) are the only teams in the PVF to have a road record at .500 or above. The Supernovas have won six-straight road matches including four straight overall which are both franchise records.&nbsp;

🏀 UPDATE: Nebraska Boys State Basketball Local Scoreboard

KEARNEY, Neb. – Chadron State softball split a doubleheader against in-state rival Nebraska-Kearney, losing 5-1 before winning 3-2 in CSC's final nonconference games of the year. 

The Eagles came from behind in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the fifth inning to tie the score and taking the lead for good in the sixth inning on Brogan Allen's tie-breaking solo home run. The day's results bring Chadron State's overall record to 9-13 on the season.

With Wednesday's doubleheader coming just two days after the conclusion of a delayed series with Black Hills State and with another RMAC series coming up this weekend, the Eagles used the nonconference games as an opportunity to rotate players.

Four CSC players – Devyn Thornton (LF in game one), Ella DeLozier (CF in game one), Brogan Allen (3B in game two) and Kendall Petty (RF in game two) – made their first appearances of the season in the starting lineup across Wednesday's action, while freshman pitcher Destrie Greiman made her first career collegiate start. 

Greiman performed well in her longest outing to date, pitching 4.1 innings against the Lopers while allowing just two hits and two runs, one earned. Greiman struck out two and walked five while lowering her season ERA to 5.00 in her fourth appearance of the season. 

Veteran Tori Haug came on in relief and pitched 2.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Haug was game two's winning pitcher after the Eagles' late rally. 

Trailing 2-0, Chadron State tied the score in the fifth when Elizabeth Thorngren led off with a double. A Katelynn Czerpak bunt single moved Thorngren over to third before a one-out sacrifice fly from Jazlyn Arvizo put the Eagles on the board. Ashland Baca then reached on an error, which allowed Czerpak to come around and score prior to Baca getting thrown at second trying to advance and ending the inning.

Allen gave the Eagles the lead by homering on a full count to lead off the sixth. Chadron State threatened by putting runners on second and third with one out later in the inning, but the Lopers escaped the jam. 

Haug did some tightrope walking of her own, keeping UNK off the scoreboard despite two walks and two hits in the inning with the help of a timely out on the bases. There would be less drama in the seventh inning, when after a one-out single, Haug struck out the final two batters of the game to seal the win. 

Game one featured a complete-game effort from Belle Akins in the loss. The freshman threw 121 pitches and went the full six innings, allowing five runs on nine hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Aliyah Rothstein drew a bases-loaded, two-out walk in the second inning to force home CSC's only run.

Indianapolis&nbsp;- Big Ten All-Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/britt-prince">Britt Prince</a>&nbsp;scored a team-high 17 points, while&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/jessica-petrie">Jessica Petrie</a>&nbsp;scored nine points in the fourth quarter to help the Huskers rally from a nine-point third-quarter deficit for a 74-70 win over Illinois in the TIAA Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament second round on Thursday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

With its fourth victory in the last five games, 10th-seeded Nebraska improved to 21-10 overall (10-8 Big Ten) and advanced to Friday's quarterfinal against No. 2 seed UCLA. Tip-off against the AP No. 4 Bruins (27-2,) is set for 5:30 p.m. (CT) with live television coverage by the Big Ten Network.

Seventh-seeded Illinois slipped to 21-9 (11-7 Big Ten) on the season, as Nebraska avenged a 77-68 loss to the Fighting Illini in Champaign on Feb. 16.

Prince hit 6-of-10 shots from the field including all three of her three-point attempts in the game, while adding a team-high five assists for the Big Red. Prince hit back-to-back short jumpers to tie the game at 65 with 2:18 left, after the Huskers fell behind 56-47 in the closing seconds of the third quarter.

Petrie, a 6-2 sophomore forward from Gold Coast, Australia, then gave Nebraska the lead for good with a huge three-pointer from the left wing to make it 68-65 with 1:34 left.&nbsp;

Genesis Bryant, who scored 17 of her game-high 20 points for the Illini in the second half, hit a pair of free throws to cut the margin to one with 1:16 left. Petrie then provided a layup on a baseline inbounds play that included an outstanding screen from&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/logan-nissley">Logan Nissley</a>&nbsp;with 26.8 seconds left after Nissley had kept the possession alive with two enormous offensive rebounds for the Huskers.

Nebraska then got a defensive stop that ended with an&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/alexis-markowski">Alexis Markowski</a>&nbsp;defensive rebound.&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/callin-hake">Callin Hake</a>&nbsp;was fouled and calmly stepped to the free throw line with 11 seconds left to sink both free throws to give NU a 72-67 edge.&nbsp;

Prince sealed the victory with two more free throws.

Petrie finished with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting while adding five rebounds, two assists and two early blocked shots in the game. Nissley, who started Nebraska's late rally with a layup at the buzzer to end the third quarter, finished with eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.&nbsp;

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/petra-bozan">Petra Bozan</a>&nbsp;gave a huge lift to the Big Red inside with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including a three-point play midway through the fourth quarter that pulled Nebraska within 60-59.

The double-figure efforts from Bozan and Petrie supplied substantial support inside to Markowski, who was held to nine points and four rebounds. Markowski added two assists, two steals and two blocks.

Hake added seven points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals, while&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/alberte-rimdal">Alberte Rimdal</a>&nbsp;also pitched in seven points off the bench. Illinois natives&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/kendall-moriarty">Kendall Moriarty</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://huskers.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/player/amiah-hargrove">Amiah Hargrove</a>&nbsp;rounded out the scoring for the Huskers with two points apiece in a true team effort in which Nebraska's bench outscored the Illini, 22-7.

For the game, Nebraska hit 28-of-57 shots (.491), including 8-of-16 threes. The Huskers also connected on 10-of-12 free throws, including all five in the decisive fourth quarter.&nbsp; The Big Red won the rebounding battle, 30-27, including 12-6 in the fourth quarter.

Illinois connected on 26-of-57 shots (.456), including 5-of-14 threes (.357), while going 13-for-15 at the line. The Illini won the turnover battle, 15-12.

Kendall Bostic scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds but was held to just one second-half field goal and was scoreless in the fourth quarter. Adalia McKenzie added 16 points and a game-high 10 assists - all in the first three quarters for the Illini.

In an entertaining first half, Illinois jumped out to a 13-2 lead before Nebraska responded with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to four points at 19-15 at the end of the first quarter.

The Huskers continued to cut lead in the second quarter, trimming the margin to one point on two occasions, before the Illini took a 32-30 lead to the half.

Prince and Bozan led Nebraska with eight points apiece. Bozan went 4-for-4 in the half, while Prince hit 3-of-5 shots including both of her three-point attempts. Prince added three assists for the Huskers.

Nebraska hit 12-of-28 shots (.429) in the half, including 3-of-7 threes (.429), while going 3-for-4 at the line.

Illinois got 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting from Bostic, while McKenzie added nine points and six assists in the half.

The Fighting Illini hit 14-of-28 shots, including 1-of-3 threes and 3-of-4 three-point attempts. Both teams committed seven first-half turnovers, while Illinois won the first-half battle of the boards, 16-13.

Nebraska started the second half strong with a three from Nissley, a layup from Hake and a three from Prince to take its first lead of the game at 38-37 with 7:11 left in the third period. Nissley's second three-pointer put NU up 41-39 with 6:04 left, and a Rimdal three-point play kept the Huskers in front at 44-42 with 4:29 left in quarter.&nbsp;

However, McKenzie and Bryant then teamed up on an 8-0 Illini run to claim a 50-44 lead with 2:26 left in the third. The lead grew to 56-47 before Nissley's third quarter buzzer beater. Illinois won the third quarter 24-19, before Nebraska responded with a decisive 25-14 edge in the fourth.

Husker Women Rally for Win Over Illini, into Big Ten Quarterfinals

Mid-Plains Community College Rodeo Team members Kahiwa Augustiro, of Ho’olehua, Hawaii, and Laynee Ohm, of Hyannis, are recognized with $1,500 Dual Excellence Scholarships. The presentation was made Saturday night at Venue304 in North Platte during the team’s annual banquet.

Dual Excellence Scholarships are awarded every year by the Wranglers booster committee. They are given to rodeo team athletes who excel in both the classroom and the arena. Selection is based upon GPA and overall points earned.

Also at the banquet, two $500 scholarships from the Phillipsburg, Kansas Rodeo were awarded.

This year the recipients are rodeo team members Clay Meyer, of Loomis, and Erin Osmotherly, of Hot Springs, S.D.<a></a>

Rodeo team member Laysha Cottrell, of Waianae, Hawaii, was also awarded $500 for being the top raffle ticket seller this year.

Hyannis native earns Dual Excellence Scholarship for MPCC Rodeo Team

GOLDEN, Colo. – Chadron State put up a valiant fight against Colorado School of Mines, but the top-seeded Orediggers held their nerve and pulled out a 79-74 victory over the Eagles in the quarterfinals of the RMAC Tournament. 

The Eagles came back from a 12-point halftime deficit to not only take the lead but hold it for large stretches of the second half, but the Orediggers took the lead back for good with 1:27 to go and made enough plays down the stretch to earn the win, as well as the right to host Friday and Saturday's tournament semifinals and finals. 

Jalen Thomas scored 19 points on 7 of 18 shooting to lead the Eagles, who had four players finish in double figures. Darrius Miles added 18 points and seven rebounds, Zy Wright had 14 points and Julio Phipps had 12. Wright and Thomas had three steals apiece. 

Jaylen Davis played a big role off the bench, playing a season-high 26 minutes and logging six points, four rebounds and two assists. Defensively, Davis took on the primary responsibility of guarding Mines's leading scorer Majok Deng, who finished with only seven points, less than half his season average. 

The Orediggers did get contributions from Cade Mankle, who had 22 points, and Markus Pastorcic-Straun, who had 13 points with most coming down the stretch. CSC outrebounded Mines 33-29 and outscored the Orediggers 38-28 in the paint. 

Chadron State ends its season 15-14 overall, sealing the program's second winning season in the last 10 years. With the loss in the quarterfinals, however, the Eagles have now lost 10 consecutive RMAC Tournament games, dating back to the 1992-93 season. 

The Eagles completely reversed their fortunes in the second half to get in position to win the game, as the first half was all Mines. The Orediggers shot a staggering 65.4 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from three-point range (10-for-16), building a 45-33 halftime cushion. 

Understandably, that shooting percentage was not sustainable for Mines in the second half, and Chadron State pounced to turn the tide, as the Eagles went on a 14-3 run in the first 3:48 of the second half. 

Jaylen Davis and Zy Wright hit back-to-back threes on CSC's first two possessions as CSC cut the dozen-point halftime deficit in half just 35 seconds into the second period. Darrius Miles had a 1-for-2 trip to the line followed by a dunk before a Julio Phipps three and Miles jumper cut the lead to just a point at 48-47 when Mines called timeout with 16:12 to play. 

Out of that timeout, Zy Wright splashed a three-pointer to give CSC its first lead of the game at 50-48. The lead would see-saw from there, changing hands six times in the next four minutes of play. 

With the score tied at 60-60, the Eagles got two free throws from Jalen Thomas before Julio Phipps poked the ball away, raced to the loose ball and threw down a one-handed slam at the other end to put CSC up by four. Two-and-a-half minutes later, Thomas hit a contested turn-around jumper to give the Eagles their largest lead of the night at 67-62. 

From there, Mines clawed back. The Orediggers tied the score 69-69 with a pair of free throws from Markus Pastorcic-Straun. Those would be the first of six straight Oredigger points by Pastorcic-Straun, the last of which gave Mines a 73-71 lead. 

Pastorcic-Straun hit another bucket to put the Orediggers up 77-73 with 39 seconds to go. Needing to press and hit difficult shots as time wound down, Chadron State missed their last five field goals of the contest. 

Chadron State finished the game 47.4 percent from the field, 28.6 percent from three (6-21) and 70 percent from the line (14-20). Mines was 53.8 percent from the field, 48 percent from three (12-25) and just 55 percent from the line (11-20). The Orediggers finished 48 percent from deep despite shooting just 2 of 9 from distance in the second half. 

Colorado School of Mines advances to face Black Hills State in the tournament semifinals on Friday in Golden while the Eagles' season ends.

CHADRON, Neb. – Chadron State shot 51 percent from the field, made 13 three-pointers and scored its most points of the RMAC season in a 105-86 victory over Adams State to conclude the 2024-25 regular season.

In a final game that seemed to have a celebratory mood, the Eagles won again at home, finishing 10-3 within the Chicoine Center this season. Chadron State finishes the regular season at 15-13 overall with an 11-9 record in the RMAC. 

Despite the win, Chadron State remained in eighth place in the conference standings due to other results around the league. The Eagles will be the No. 8 seed in the RMAC Tournament for the second straight year and will face off against top-seeded league champions Colorado School of Mines in an RMAC Tournament quarterfinal this upcoming Tuesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. in Golden, Colorado.

In a poetic twist, Chadron State had five double-figure scorers, who just so happened to be the night's five Senior Day honorees. The Eagles received a CSC-career high 23 points from Julio Phipps and 21 points from Zy Wright, with the Georgia guard going over 20 for the second straight game. 

Jalen Thomas finished with 11 points and 12 assists, a season-high which broke his own team single-game record for the season and was also the Texan's first double-double of the season. Dalton Peterson finished with 14 points while John Jenkins had 10.

Phipps finished 9 of 12 from the floor and added six rebounds, a steal and a block. Most notably, Phipps shot 4 of 5 from three-point range after having made just 10 threes in the previous 27 games. Wright (9-16), Jenkins (4-8), Trey Ballard (4-7, eight points) and Darrius Miles (3-6, seven points). 

As a team, Chadron State shot 51.2 percent from the field, including a smoldering 61.5 percent in the second half. The Eagles were 43.3 percent (13-30) from long distance, making the second-most threes in a game this season as a team behind their 107-point explosion against Central Christian on December 16. 

The Eagles racked up a season-high 30 assists and had only seven turnovers, tied for their second-fewest total of the year.

The game featured 10 lead changes, five in the first half and five in the first three minutes of the second half, but Chadron State used a barrage of threes to break the game open. Leading 56-52 with 14:20 to go, the Eagles hit five consecutive field goal attempts with a Peterson three, back-to-back Wright threes, and two Wright layups sandwiched around a pair of Jaylen Davis free throws. 

The 15-2 run turned a two-basket game into a 17-point Eagles lead, and a mini 6-0 run featuring five points from John Jenkins soon put the Eagles up by 20 or more for the first time at 77-56 with 8:56 to play.

Jude Tapia, who entered the week as the RMAC's joint-leading scorer with 17 points per game, scored 28 on 10 of 20 shooting to lead the Grizzlies.

Chadron State will look to reverse its fortunes against Colorado School of Mines on Tuesday, as the Orediggers went 18-2 in the RMAC this season, including two wins over the Eagles. Should the Eagles beat the Orediggers on Tuesday, the RMAC semifinals and finals will take place Friday and Saturday at the highest remaining seed.

Chadron State finishes the regular season at 15-13 overall with an 11-9 record in the RMAC. Despite the win, Chadron State remained in eighth place in the conference standings due to other results around the league. The Eagles will be the No. 8 seed in the RMAC Tournament for the second straight year and will face off against top-seeded league champions Colorado School of Mines in an RMAC Tournament quarterfinal this upcoming Tuesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. in Golden, Colorado.In a poetic twist, Chadron State had five double-figure scorers, who just so happened to be the night's five Senior Day honorees. The Eagles received a CSC-career high 23 points from Julio Phipps and 21 points from Zy Wright, with the Georgia guard going over 20 for the second straight game. Jalen Thomas finished with 11 points and 12 assists, a season-high which broke his own team single-game record for the season and was also the Texan's first double-double of the season. Dalton Peterson finished with 14 points while John Jenkins had 10.Phipps finished 9 of 12 from the floor and added six rebounds, a steal and a block. Most notably, Phipps shot 4 of 5 from three-point range after having made just 10 threes in the previous 27 games. As a team, Chadron State shot 51.2 percent from the field, including a smoldering 61.5 percent in the second half. The Eagles were 43.3 percent (13-30) from long distance, making the second-most threes in a game this season as a team behind their 107-point explosion against Central Christian on December 16. The Eagles racked up a season-high 30 assists and had only seven turnovers, tied for their second-fewest total of the year.The game featured 10 lead changes, five in the first half and five in the first three minutes of the second half, but Chadron State used a barrage of threes to break the game open. Leading 56-52 with 14:20 to go, the Eagles hit five consecutive field goal attempts with a Peterson three, back-to-back Wright threes, and two Wright layups sandwiched around a pair of Jaylen Davis free throws. The 15-2 run turned a two-basket game into a 17-point Eagles lead, and a mini 6-0 run featuring five points from John Jenkins soon put the Eagles up by 20 or more for the first time at 77-56 with 8:56 to play. Chadron State men close RMAC slate with 105-86 win, turn attention to playoffs

CHADRON, Neb. – After getting off to an excellent start and leading for 26 of the 40 minutes, the Chadron State College women's basketball team was one point short when time ran out, falling to Adams State 68-67 in the final game of the season at home on Saturday afternoon. 

Both senior Ashayla Powers and junior Megan Counts finished with 12 points to lead the Eagles in scoring, but 11 total Chadron State players scored. Counts led CSC in rebounding with nine, missing her third double-double in four games by just a single rebound. 

The Eagles end the season at 6-20 overall with a 5-15 record in the RMAC. Adams State improved to 19-10 overall and 14-6 in conference with the win.

Coach Travis Brewster said the loss was disappointing, but noted Adams State had defeated his team 82-59 when they played January 16 on the Grizzlies' court and said the Eagles improved as the season evolved.

"We executed our game plan really well today and have improved so much that they wanted to win this one against a really good team," Brewster said. "Our team has ended the season with great compatibility."

While the Eagles jumped out to a 19-11 first quarter lead and were ahead by as many as 13 points early in the second period, neither team ever led by more than four points during the final 15 minutes. It appeared that the team which had the ball last would win, which seemed to favor the Eagles.

The Eagles had closed out each of the first three quarters with the last basket in the fleeting seconds. Forward Megan Counts ended the first period by making a layup with four seconds left, giving the Eagles their eight-point lead. Guard Kylie Krise nailed a 3-pointer as time was expiring at halftime, putting CSC ahead 36-33.  And the third quarter ended when guard Jordyn Stokes drove for a layup that knotted the score at 52-52.

In the fourth, Chadron State had the ball off an inbounds play with six seconds remaining in regulation, but didn't get off a shot before the final buzzer blared.

Adams had a pair of players who were hard to stop.  Six-foot freshman post Taejhuan Hill finished with a season-high 29 points while making 7-of-15 field goal shots and drawing 11 fouls that allowed her to go 15-of-18 at the free throw line. She also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

In addition, Kiiyani Anitielu, a 5-7 junior, added 18 points while only four other Grizzlies scored and none of them more than seven.  This wasn't Anitielu's big game of the season, but she was still a force. Two weeks ago she poured in 52 points during a 98-45 win over Westminster to set the RMAC all-time scoring record.  

Overall, Adams State was 20 of 58 (34.5 percent) and CSC was 23 of 61 (37.7 percent) from the field Saturday. Both teams had six 3-pointers, but Hill's free throw bonanza allowed the Grizzlies to go 22-29 at the line while the Eagles were 15-19.

Behind Powers and Counts, Liberty Line was CSC's third-leading scorer with seven points while seniors Kadyn Comer and Olivia Waufle had six points apiece. Comer, Waufle and Powers, who were all honored pregame for Senior Night, were all in the starting lineup, with Comer and Waufle each playing a season-high in minutes.

CSC women close season with near-upset of Adams State

CHADRON, Neb. – A huge second half and a career scoring night from Ashayla Powers propelled the Chadron State College women's basketball team to an 83-72 victory over the Fort Lewis Skyhawks on Thursday night in the Chicoine Center.

The Eagles (6-19, 5-14 RMAC) overcame a 10-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Skyhawks 50-29 in the second half, scoring 25 points in each quarter. 

The star of the show was Chadron State's 5-10 senior Powers, who poured in a career-high 32 points, 22 of them in the second half, and also was the game's leading rebounder with 12.  She made 13 of 19 field goal shots and was 6-of-8 at the free throw line.

Megan Counts also had a double-double for the second straight game with 12 points and 11 rebounds. In addition, CSC had a season-high 20 assists, nine of them passes to Powers that she converted into points.

Deniece Ryan, a 5-2 junior, scored 21 points and Darla Hernandez and Levia Knapp, both seniors, had 18 apiece. Fort Lewis jumped out to a 23-16 first quarter lead by making 9 of 22 shots from the field, including four 3-pointers. The visitors stayed ahead the entire second period and increased the lead to double-digits as the half was ending when Ryan nailed back-to-back 3-pointers, the last one at the buzzer.But Chadron State outscored the Skyhawks 25-10 in the third quarter to turn the 10-point halftime deficit into a five-point advantage at 58-53. Powers scored 11 points in the frame and junior Kylie Krise sank a pair of 3-pointers to lead the rally. CSC also tallied 25 points in the fourth quarter while going 13-of-16 from the free throw line, including makes on all six shots in the final 22 seconds. Overall, the Eagles were 18 of 22 at the charity stripe.Powers' previous career high point total was 29 points against Nebraska-Kearney in November 2022. She has now scored 1,467 points during her career, fifth on the Eagles' scoring list. Powers can crack the program's top three if she can score 27 points on Saturday in her final collegiate game. The Eagles will conclude their season Saturday at 1 p.m. by hosting Adams State.
