CHADRON, Neb. – The Chadron State College men's basketball team saw a 23-point first-half lead turn into a back-and-forth battle down the stretch, but Adams State came out ahead 92-90 in a fast-paced, physical Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest in the Chicoine Center in Chadron.

The Eagles (3-12, 1-6 RMAC) led 37-14 midway in the first half and were still ahead by a dozen — 56-44 — at halftime, but Adams State (10-5, 4-3 RMAC) took the lead with six-and-a-half minutes to play and the lead changed hands four times down the stretch. Chadron State scored a season-high 90 points and never trailed by more than four in the heartbreaking setback. 

Junior point guard Mack Keighran led the Eagles with 30 points and became the first Chadron State player to tally 30 or more in a game this season. He was 7-of-11 from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point range, and made 11 of 13 free throws.

Twice in the late going, the native of Australia made big plays that helped the Eagles fight to the wire. With 6:15 to play, Keighran rebounded his own miss for a putback layup that tied the score at 77-77. Then, with 1:37 left, he hit a deep 3-pointer that put the Eagles back on top at 90-89. 

Both teams missed their next field goal shot, but Adams State's Dillan Baker drove for a layup with 34 seconds remaining to give the visitors the lead again. After the Eagles missed a layup with 17 seconds still showing and the Grizzlies got the rebound, the visitors' leading scorer, Emilek Jallow, made one of two free throws.  

Sandwiched around a travel call against Adams State, the Eagles got off two hurried field goal shots in the final six seconds that could have won or tied the game, but neither connected.

Other double-figure scorers for Chadron State were senior Isaiah Randolph with 17, redshirt freshman Jackson Schauer with 12 and senior Zach Smith with 11. Schauer's total included a trio a three-pointers, which happened in quick succession early in the game.

Jadon Cool, CSC's leading scorer for the season who had scored at least 18 points in four of the last five games, ran into early foul trouble and sat out more than half the contest while finishing with just seven points. 

The Eagles were 16-of-33 (48.5 percent) from the field in the first half, including 8-of-15 on threes, but were 10-of-34 (29.4 percent) and just 2- of-14 from behind the arc in the second half. CSC's free throw shooting was terrific throughout the game—16-18 in the first half and 12-13 in the last 30 minutes.

Adams State struggled at the free throw line, making just 18 of 31 for 58.1 percent for the game, but the Grizzlies were 31-62 from the field and 12 of 30 from long range—making seven of their treys in the first half and five in the second. Adams State made 56 percent of its field goal attempts as a team in the second half.

Five Grizzlies scored in double digits in the game, led by Jallow, a 6-foot-6 sophomore who finished with 26 points, most of them in the paint where Adams State outscored the Eagles 38 to 20 points.  

CSC freshman Luka Djurovic had 11 rebounds for the Eagles while Blessing Adesipe added nine. 

The Eagles will be at home again Saturday afternoon against New Mexico Highlands (5-13, 3-4 RMAC), which fell to Black Hills State in Spearfish on Thursday night 79-74.

Mack Attack: CSC guard explodes for 30 but Grizzlies claw back to win in final minute

CHADRON, Neb. – Chadron State led by double digits at halftime, but a talented Adams State team reeled the Eagles back in and took over in the second half to defeat CSC by a 74-64 final score on Thursday evening at the Chicoine Center. 

The Eagles (1-11, 1-6 RMAC) scored 21 points in the first quarter and took their largest lead of the night when Ella Moser hit a three with five seconds remaining in the first half to make it 38-27 Eagles at halftime, but Adams State (12-5, 6-1 RMAC) outscored the hosts 29-11 in the third quarter and took off from there.

McKenzi Petersen starred for the Eagles, shooting 9-for-14 from the field to score a CSC career-high 20 points along with six rebounds. Moser finished with 13 points, including a trio of three-pointers, and added three steals on the defensive end. 

Freshman point guard Kenna Wagner set a career high with five assists and contributed eight points and four rebounds. Evelyn Old Coyote led the team with eight rebounds, doubling her previous season high of four.

The Eagles shot 42.6 percent from the field, 25 percent from three (6-24) and 60 percent from the line (6-10). Chadron State went 9-for-17 from the field (52.9 percent) and 3-for-7 from deep (42.9 percent) in the first quarter.

The Grizzlies improved their field goal percentage in every quarter, shooting just 31.2 percent in the first but upping that to 38.4 percent in the second, 39.1 percent in the third and 41.7 percent in the fourth quarter. Adams State also more than tripled CSC's free-throw attempts, making 21 of 31 foul shots. 

Adams State's Kiiyani Anitielu, who last season set the RMAC single-game scoring record with 52 points against Westminster, led the charge for the Grizzlies with a season-high 30 points, her highest scoring total since that record-breaking game. Sophomore Taejhuan Hill had a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double for ASU.

Chadron State started hot. The Eagles went to Petersen for layups in the paint twice plus a three from Audrey Quintana to take a 7-3 lead just three minutes into the game. Leading 16-15, the Eagles went on a 5-0 run in the final 90 seconds of the first quarter, with an Amya Winfrey layup and Ella Moser three stretching CSC's advantage to 21-15.

Petersen scored seven of CSC's 17 points in quarter number two while Dreanna Jackson added all five of her points for the game. The Eagles held a six-point lead – 32-26 – with 45 seconds remaining in the first half when Petersen converted a layup with a foul and hit the ensuing free throw. After Adams State went 1-for-2 from the line at the other end, Moser drained her third three-pointer of the half off an assist from Alex Ridenour to give CSC a double-digit lead at the break, 38-27.

Unfortunately, that would be the high mark on the night for the Eagles, as the Grizzlies came out with renewed defensive energy and forced Chadron State into 14 turnovers in the third period alone. Adams State converted those 14 third-quarter turnovers into 16 points, outscoring CSC 29-11 overall in the quarter and turning the 11-point deficit into a seven-point lead.

For the game, Chadron State had 24 turnovers while the Grizzlies had just 11. That helped Adams State overcome CSC's rebounding advantage, as the Eagles plucked 48 rebounds compared to ASU's 37.

Chadron State will have another chance to win on its home floor when the Eagles welcome New Mexico Highlands (6-8, 2-5 RMAC) on Saturday at 1 p.m.

🏀 Western Nebraska Prep Basketball Scoreboard - 1/13

DENVER – The Chadron State College women's basketball team hit 49 percent of its field goal shots, made 15 of 17 free throws and came up with 11 steals and five blocked shots Saturday afternoon while winning its first game of the season, a 68-53 victory over the Regis Rangers in Denver. 

​The 68 points is the Eagles' season high, 11 more than their previous best. Three players scored in double figures for the first time in the team's 11 games.

​Senior post McKenzi Petersen set the pace with 14 points while juniors Audrey Quintana and Dreanna Jackson each scored 12. Five more Eagles added between three and eight points.

​There were five ties and five lead changes, all in the first half. The Eagles scored the final two field goals, one of them a three-pointer, in the second quarter to take a 28-24 halftime lead.

​The third period was the difference-maker. Chadron State made nine of 14 field goal shots, two of them treys, and meshed all five of their free throw shots to outscore the Rangers 25-15 in the frame. That gave the visitors a 53-39 advantage going into the final quarter. 

​Although the Eagles turned the ball over six times in the fourth, they continued to shoot extra well, making three of four attempts from the field and nine of 10 free throws. Only twice in the last stanza did the Eagles' lead dip below double digits, and both times they were still on top by nine points.

​The Rangers, who remain winless in 10 games, were led by 6-foot-1 junior Kate Gallery with 20 points. Senior Jessica Bollwahn added 12 and sophomore Caitlin Turnbow scored 11 points and claimed a game-high 11 rebounds.

​However, CSC won the rebounding battle by a 36-29 margin. Petersen paced CSC's rebounding with seven.

​Both Chadron State teams will be at home this coming weekend, hosting Adams State the evening of Thursday, Jan. 15 and New Mexico Highlands the afternoon of Saturday, Jan. 17.

WBB: Eagles race by Regis for first RMAC win of season

DENVER – The Chadron State College men's basketball team got its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory of the season as well as its first win of the New Year on Saturday by squeezing out a 68-66 verdict over the Regis Rangers on Saturday afternoon in Denver. 

The Eagles were led by junior guard Jadon Cool with 25 points, 18 of them in the second half, including the team's six points in the final minute to secure the victory. 

Chadron State led the entire game, once by 15 points at 30-15 and three times by 14 early in the second half, but were outscored 25-14 in the final eight minutes as Regis cut the lead to a single point late. Despite the rally, the Eagles led by five points before a shot from beyond half court went in at the buzzer for the Rangers to cut the final margin to two.

CSC senior Blessing Adesipe was CSC's only double-figure scorer besides Cool with 10 points, and he also was the game's top rebounder with 10 of them. Senior Zach Smith finished with nine points on three treys, including both the first and last in the opening half. 

Luka Djurovic chipped up seven steals and had a team-high three steals alongside Colin Nick, who added six points, four rebounds and a block in addition to three swipes. Chadron State committed just nine turnovers, only CSC's third time this season under 10, while forcing Regis into 14.

With the win, Chadron State improved to 3-11 overall and 1-5 in the RMAC. Regis fell to 1-11 and 0-5.

Chadron State shot just 37.7 percent (23-61) from the field and made only 24.4 percent (8-33) of its three-point shots, but was 14-15 compared to Regis's 7-11 at the free throw line and out-rebounded the Rangers 36-24 while keeping the hosts from grabbing a single offensive rebound. 

Meanwhile, the Eagles turned their 14 offensive boards in 15 second-chance points and had a 30-10 advantage in points in the paint. They also had 13 fast break points and limited Regis to three. 

Chadron State jumped out to a 13-5 lead after threes from Ethan Russell and Jadon Cool. The visitors led 30-15 after transition baskets from Adesipe and Jackson Schauer and led by 11 points (35-24) at halftime.

The Rangers made it interesting late by knocking down five consecutive three-point shots, adding a free throw and finally cutting the Eagles' lead to 62-61 on a dunk by their leading scorer, Luke Soden, with 1:28 left on the clock. 

Neither team scored again until Cool made two free throws with 57 seconds remaining. Soden answered with a pair of foul shots 16 seconds later. When the Eagles took possession again, they ran the clock down 14 seconds before calling a time out. Cool, a junior from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, who led the Eagles in scoring entering the game with a 14.2 average, drove to the hoop for a layup that put Chadron State up by a 66-63 margin with 10 seconds left. 

Regis finally missed a three-point shot and the ball went out of bounds. CSC's inbounds pass was to Cool, who was immediately fouled. He again made both free tosses, his eighth and ninth in 10 attempts in the game, giving the visitors a 68-63 edge with three seconds remaining.

The game ended when Gunnar Walters, son of Regis Coach Rex Walters, heaved a volley from the back court that was good as the final buzzer was sounding, but the Eagles had hung on for their two-point triumph. 

The final shot was the Rangers' 13th trey in 27 attempts for the game and their eighth in 14 three-point tries in the second half. Overall, they shot 52.5 percent (23-44) from the field, including 63.6 percent (14-22) in the second half. 

Soden, a 6-4 freshman, was 5 of 10 from long range and finished with 26 points, one more than Cool for game-high honors. Walters' three treys helped him end with 11 points while Logan Flores-Peoples, one of just two non-starters available for the Rangers, added 10 points. 

Cooper Frith, the Rangers' leading scorer for the season with a 16.8 average, scored just seven points before fouling out.

The Eagles will be home this coming weekend to play Adams State the evening of Thursday, Jan. 14 and New Mexico Highlands the afternoon of Saturday, Jan. 16.

The Eagles were led by junior guard Jadon Cool with 25 points, 18 of them in the second half, including the team's six points in the final minute to secure the victory. Chadron State led the entire game, once by 15 points at 30-15 and three times by 14 early in the second half, but were outscored 25-14 in the final eight minutes as Regis cut the lead to a single point late. Despite the rally, the Eagles led by five points before a shot from beyond half court went in at the buzzer for the Rangers to cut the final margin to two.CSC senior Blessing Adesipe was CSC's only double-figure scorer besides Cool with 10 points, and he also was the game's top rebounder with 10 of them. Senior Zach Smith finished with nine points on three treys, including both the first and last in the opening half. Luka Djurovic chipped up seven steals and had a team-high three steals alongside Colin Nick, who added six points, four rebounds and a block in addition to three swipes. Chadron State committed just nine turnovers, only CSC's third time this season under 10, while forcing Regis into 14.With the win, Chadron State improved to 3-11 overall and 1-5 in the RMAC. Regis fell to 1-11 and 0-5.Chadron State shot just 37.7 percent (23-61) from the field and made only 24.4 percent (8-33) of its three-point shots, but was 14-15 compared to Regis's 7-11 at the free throw line and out-rebounded the Rangers 36-24 while keeping the hosts from grabbing a single offensive rebound. Meanwhile, the Eagles turned their 14 offensive boards in 15 second-chance points and had a 30-10 advantage in points in the paint. They also had 13 fast break points and limited Regis to three. The visitors led 30-15 after transition baskets from Adesipe and Jackson Schauer and led by 11 points (35-24) at halftime.The Rangers made it interesting late by knocking down five consecutive three-point shots, adding a free throw and finally cutting the Eagles' lead to 62-61 on a dunk by their leading scorer, Luke Soden, with 1:28 left on the clock. Neither team scored again until Cool made two free throws with 57 seconds remaining. Soden answered with a pair of foul shots 16 seconds later. When the Eagles took possession again, they ran the clock down 14 seconds before calling a time out. Cool, a junior from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, who led the Eagles in scoring entering the game with a 14.2 average, drove to the hoop for a layup that put Chadron State up by a 66-63 margin with 10 seconds left. Regis finally missed a three-point shot and the ball went out of bounds. CSC's inbounds pass was to Cool, who was immediately fouled. He again made both free tosses, his eighth and ninth in 10 attempts in the game, giving the visitors a 68-63 edge with three seconds remaining.The game ended when Gunnar Walters, son of Regis Coach Rex Walters, heaved a volley from the back court that was good as the final buzzer was sounding, but the Eagles had hung on for their two-point triumph. The final shot was the Rangers' 13th trey in 27 attempts for the game and their eighth in 14 three-point tries in the second half. Overall, they shot 52.5 percent (23-44) from the field, including 63.6 percent (14-22) in the second half. Soden, a 6-4 freshman, was 5 of 10 from long range and finished with 26 points, one more than Cool for game-high honors. Walters' three treys helped him end with 11 points while Logan Flores-Peoples, one of just two non-starters available for the Rangers, added 10 points. GOLDEN, Colo. – Chadron State kept pace with defending league champions Colorado School of Mines for 25 minutes, but the three-point line loomed large in helping the Orediggers to an eventual 74-60 win over the Eagles on Thursday night in Golden, Colorado. 

Mines (7-9, 3-2 RMAC) went 14-for-38 from the three-point line, including a career-high nine makes from freshman guard Shelton Henton, while the Eagles (2-11, 0-5 RMAC) were 5-for-21 overall from deep and just 2-for-13 in the second half. 

Jadon Cool led Eagle scorers with 14 points while Luka Djurovic (11), Blessing Adesipe (10) and Mack Keighran (10) also finished in double digits. Keighran shot a perfect 5-for-5 from the field. 

Isaiah Randolph stuffed the stat sheet as well, tallying eight points, six rebounds and team-highs of four assists and three steals. Randolph and Djurovic each shot 4 of 7 from the field.

The Eagles outshot Mines overall, making 50 percent of their field goals in the first half and 44.6 percent for the game compared to 41.8 percent by the hosts. CSC's touch disappeared down the stretch in key areas, however, as the Eagles dropped to 15 percent from beyond the arc (2-13) and 17 percent (1-6) from the free-throw line after halftime. 

Chadron State stayed within striking distance of the Orediggers despite a career night from Henton, who made eight three-pointers in the first half. The Eagles worked in transition, converting turnovers into fastbreak layups from Cool, Keighran and Randolph, followed by a three-pointer from Adesipe to take an 18-16 lead. 

The Eagles led by as many as four – 22-18 – after a putback from Randolph, but two more threes from Henton turned a 26-23 Eagles lead into a 29-26 Oredigger lead, and Henton's eighth three gave Mines a 35-31 lead at halftime. 

With CSC's shooting percentages dropping in the second half, the Orediggers pushed their lead to double digits at 50-39 with 13 minutes to go, led by as many as 18 with seven minutes left, and led by 10 or more the rest of the way. 

Colorado School of Mines also outrebounded the Eagles 41-27. Chadron State did tie a season-low with only seven committed turnovers while forcing 14 by the Orediggers. 

Chadron State will travel to Denver and face Regis (1-10, 0-5 RMAC) on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Orediggers (8-8, 3-2 RMAC) outscored Chadron State (0-10, 0-5 RMAC) 26-6 in the second quarter to take control of the game after the Eagles led early, 13-12. Mines led by 23 at halftime and by as many as 32 late in the third quarter. 

Amya Winfrey recorded five blocks and five rebounds in just 15 minutes, tied for the most by one player in an RMAC game this season. Keziah Toran added three blocks while Kenna Wagner and Alex Ridenour added one apiece as the Eagles became only the second RMAC team with double-digit blocks in a game in 2025-26. 

Offensively, Audrey Quintana led Chadron State with 14 points and seven rebounds while Kenna Wagner chipped in 12, going 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. Quintana and Dreanna Jackson had two three-pointers apiece. Jackson finished with eight points. 

Evelyn Old Coyote had a team-high five assists along with four rebounds. Quintana, Wagner, Ella Moser and Teryn Stokes (playing for the first time since November) all had two steals apiece among CSC's nine, the second-most by the Eagles in a game this season.

Gothenburg won both championships with room to spare Wednesday at the Chadron Holiday Basketball Tournament.

                The Lady Swedes jumped out to a 43-20 halftime lead and defeated Bridgeport 84-43 to win their championship while the Gothenburg boys led by just 24-23 at intermission, but outscored Bridgeport 37-23 in the second half and won that title 61-46.

                Eleven players scored for the Gothenburg girls, led by Halsey Thomalla with 22 points, Zoe Beveridge with 19 and Lindly Anderson with 13.  Olivia Brown paced Bridgeport with 20 points and Elle Schluterbusch added 11.

                The Gothenburg boys had balanced scoring. Axel Jorgenson and Bryson Neels each had 12 points, Braden Ehlers 11 and Landen Mroczek 10. 

                Nik Weibert, who scored just three points in the first two games of the tournament, got Bridgeport off to blazing start Wednesday by tallying the game’s first 11 points by sinking a trio of 3-pointers and a putback.  He seldom shot after that, but finished with a team-high 14 points.  Logan Levick added 11 for the Bulldogs.

                Both Gothenburg teams are now 8-1 for the season while the Bridgeport girls are 10-1 and the boys are 8-2.

                Valentine teams earned both thirds in the tournament standings. The girls led 26-19 at halftime, were ahead by as many as 14 points in the second half and held off a late charge by Chadron to edge the Cardinals 49-45. Aiden Hand had 16 points, Paige Sprenger 14 and Devahney Belville 12 for Valentine.  Rylan Barry was Chadron’s only double figure scorer with 14 points.

                The Badgers’ boys claimed their third by defeating Chase County 71-56 led by Dom Beebout with 19 points and Isaac Cronin and Trystan Beebout with 14 apiece.  Chase County was paced by Aaron Cervantes with 17 points and Lukes Fries with 10.

                The Lady Badgers are now 7-2 and the boys are 6-1.

                Gering finished fifth in the tournament’s final team standings by winning both of their consolation bracket games Wednesday.  The Bulldogs’ girls led by 16 points by Jacey Cochran and 15 by Jacelyn Brown edged Chase County 58-54 and the boys topped Niobrara County from Lusk, Wyo., 57-48 with Ryland Ray scoring 16 points and Max Judy 15 to lead the Bulldogs,

                The Chase County girls got 15 points from both Mia Fries and Alex Reeves while Avery Beemer chipped in 13.  Brady Swisher’s 16 points led Niobrara County boys and Corbin Matthews added 11.

                With Kylee Ellerton scoring 19 points the Custer, S.D., girls won that game to determine seventh place by downing Niobrara County 47-35.  Chadron finished seventh on the boys’ backet by edging Custer 46-43. Derek Bissonette had 16 points and Tobin Landen 12 for the winning Cardinals.

                Jaci Vetter’s 10 points led the Niobrara County girls and Brady Virtue with 13 points was Custer’s scoring leader in that seventh place contest.

The Lady Swedes jumped out to a 43-20 halftime lead and defeated Bridgeport 84-43 to win their championship while the Gothenburg boys led by just 24-23 at intermission, but outscored Bridgeport 37-23 in the second half and won that title 61-46. Eleven players scored for the Gothenburg girls, led by Halsey Thomalla with 22 points, Zoe Beveridge with 19 and Lindly Anderson with 13. Olivia Brown paced Bridgeport with 20 points and Elle Schluterbusch added 11. The Gothenburg boys had balanced scoring. Axel Jorgenson and Bryson Neels each had 12 points, Braden Ehlers 11 and Landen Mroczek 10. Nik Weibert, who scored just three points in the first two games of the tournament, got Bridgeport off to blazing start Wednesday by tallying the game’s first 11 points by sinking a trio of 3-pointers and a putback. He seldom shot after that, but finished with a team-high 14 points. Logan Levick added 11 for the Bulldogs. Both Gothenburg teams are now 8-1 for the season while the Bridgeport girls are 10-1 and the boys are 8-2. Valentine teams earned both thirds in the tournament standings. Gothenburg sweeps holiday hoops tournament titles in Chadron

The girls’ and boys’ teams from three schools won both of their games on Monday during the opening round of the Chadron Holiday Basketball Tournament, but Chadron and Chase County split during the final session with the Chadron girls edging Chase County 47-45, but the Chase County boys downing the Cardinals 62-51.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In the opening matchups, the Valentine girls led Gering 37-14 at halftime and won 55-44. Paige Sprenger led the Badgers with 17 points while Jacelyn Brown paced Gering with 14. Led by Isaac Cronin’s 24 points, including 14 in the second period, Valentine won the boys’ game 63-54. High School Basketball Scoreboard - December 18

CHADRON, Neb. – Punter Brodie Eisenbraun earned consensus First Team All-America honors while linebacker Logan O'Brien picked up a second-team nod from the Associated Football Coaches Association (AFCA) as two sets of All-America teams were announced Wednesday.

Eisenbraun snagged the lone first-team spot for punters in both the AFCA All-America Team and the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) team. Eisenbraun becomes the 21st consensus All-American in Chadron State program history, and the first since Hunter O'Connor in 2022. 

Eisenbraun, a redshirt senior from Sturgis, S.D., and O'Brien, a redshirt senior from Kearney, Neb., are the 62ndand 63rd All-Americans in Chadron State football history. It is the first career All-American nods for both athletes, making them the 48th and 49th individual athletes from CSC football to become All-Americans.

With both Eisenbraun and O'Brien appearing on the AFCA All-America team, Chadron State has placed two players on the coaches' team for the same year for the first time ever according to all available records. The AFCA selected just one All-America team up until 2016, when they added a second team. 

Eisenbraun and O'Brien have been joined at the hip throughout this awards season, each winning an RMAC special yearly award (Special Teams Player of the Year for Eisenbraun and Defensive Player of the Year for O'Brien). The duo were also previously CSC's representatives to the D2CCA All-Region First Team. 

Both have also been named RMAC First Team All-Academic, with O'Brien winning the conference's Academic Defensive Player of the Year honor (no Academic Special Teams Player of the Year is awarded), and are each on the ballot for College Sports Communicators Academic All-America honors, which will be announced in January.

Eisenbraun can stake his claim to being Division II's best punter after the dual First Team selections. The redshirt senior ranked third in Division II and broke his own program single season record with a 44.2 yards per punt average. Eisenbraun had more punts inside the 20 (18) and fewer touchbacks (5) than both punters ahead with a higher average.

Eisenbraun is the third All-American punter in Chadron State history, joining Duane Fritz (NAIA First Team All-American in 1975) and Kevin Berg (AFCA First Team in 2009, Daktronics (now D2CCA) Second Team in 2010). 

O'Brien was a consistently dominant force, winning four RMAC Defensive Player of the Week awards over the course of the 2025 season. The linebacker's 85 tackles, 49 solo tackles and 5.5 sacks all ranked within top five of the RMAC and his 14.5 tackles for loss were tied for the league lead. 

O'Brien becomes the fifth Chadron State linebacker to earn All-America honors, joining Corey Anderson (NAIA First Team in 1990), Kevin Homer (three-time honoree in 1996, 1997 and 1999), Austin Bailey (D2Football.com Third Team in 2006) and Kevin Lindholm (awarded by three organizations in 2012). 

Chadron State is the only RMAC school with multiple AFCA selections. The conference combined for seven – CSC's two plus Black Hills State receiver TJ Chukwurah (First Team), New Mexico Highlands running back Jeffrey Jones (First Team) CSU Pueblo wide receiver Reggie Retzlaff (Second Team), Western Colorado defensive lineman Ricky Freymond (Second Team) and Colorado School of Mines long snapper Josh Hildebrand (Second Team). 

On the D2CCA team, Chukwurah repeated his first-team selection alongside Eisenbraun while Retzlaff repeated his second-team selection. Jones was also a Second Team selection by the D2CCA.

Alliance Bulldogs Coach's Show - 12/17/25 (Boys Hoops Comeback vs Torrington)

KEARNEY, Neb. – Chadron State rallied in the second half, cutting the lead to a single basket after the Eagles were 13 down with under five minutes to go, but the comeback attempt fell short as Nebraska-Kearney eked out an 84-79 win over the Eagles on Tuesday night.

Jadon Cool scored a season-high 29 points, including 17 in the second half, shooting better than 50 percent from the field (10-for-16) and three-point range (5-for-9) while staying perfect at the line (4-for-4).

Isaiah Randolph added 16 points with eight rebounds and three steals, Ethan Russell poured in 13 points for a season-high and Luka Djurovic finished with six points and 11 rebounds for his third game this season with 10 or more. 

Chadron State (2-10), who outscored UNK (6-5) 50-46 in the second half after putting up just 29 points before halftime, made its late rally despite playing its thinnest bench of the season. Head Coach Chris Francis played only eight players, with two of those only logging five minutes each. 

The starting five of Cool (39 minutes), Djurovic (35), Randolph (34), Russell (32) and Blessing Adesipe (30) all played substantially, with Jackson Schauer logged six points in 20 minutes off the bench.

Nebraska-Kearney shot 47 percent from the field, and crucially, the Lopers were equally as efficient from deep, making 14 of 29 three-point shots to hit those at a 48 percent clip. Chadron State shot a respectable 42 percent from both the field (25-59) and three (9-21 3PT) and enjoyed a 38-33 rebounding edge but ultimately couldn't overcome its opponent's three-point volume. 

In more good news, Chadron State tied a team season-high with 16 assists, led individually by Randolph and Adesipe with four apiece. Chadron State committed 13 turnovers, finishing with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio as a team for the fourth time this season. 

The home team rippled the nets early, sinking four three-pointers to jump out to a 14-2 lead. While the Lopers would ultimately maintain that lead for the duration of the half, the Eagles battled back to within one point with a 13-1 run across six minutes of game time.

The run featured three-pointers from Schauer and Cool, a three-point play from Randolph and four more points from Cool on a jumper and free throws which cut the Loper lead to just 25-24 with 5:48 to go in the first half. 

The hosts pushed the margin back up to lead 38-29 at halftime, and maintained a lead of 8-10 points on average throughout the early second half. When UNK's Kendrick Gilbert made a layup with 4:48 to go, the Lopers led by 13 – 73-60 – and appeared to have it locked up. 

The Eagles didn't go away quietly, hitting four of their nine threes for the game in a two-minute span to take a bite out of the cushion. Cool hit the first, then Schauer came up with a steal and fed Adesipe for a fastbreak three to make it 73-66. After an empty CSC possession, Cool and Russell each hit three-pointers, then Randolph went 2-for-2 from the line to make it only a 76-74 advantage for Kearney with 1:40 to go.

Like in the first half, however, the Lopers were able to absorb CSC's best punch, answering with a three-pointer to push the lead back up to five. Chadron State (2-10), who outscored UNK (6-5) 50-46 in the second half after putting up just 29 points before halftime, made its late rally despite playing its thinnest bench of the season. Head Coach Chris Francis played only eight players, with two of those only logging five minutes each. The starting five of Cool (39 minutes), Djurovic (35), Randolph (34), Russell (32) and Blessing Adesipe (30) all played substantially, with Jackson Schauer logged six points in 20 minutes off the bench.Nebraska-Kearney shot 47 percent from the field, and crucially, the Lopers were equally as efficient from deep, making 14 of 29 three-point shots to hit those at a 48 percent clip. Chadron State shot a respectable 42 percent from both the field (25-59) and three (9-21 3PT) and enjoyed a 38-33 rebounding edge but ultimately couldn't overcome its opponent's three-point volume. In more good news, Chadron State tied a team season-high with 16 assists, led individually by Randolph and Adesipe with four apiece. Chadron State committed 13 turnovers, finishing with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio as a team for the fourth time this season. The home team rippled the nets early, sinking four three-pointers to jump out to a 14-2 lead. While the Lopers would ultimately maintain that lead for the duration of the half, the Eagles battled back to within one point with a 13-1 run across six minutes of game time.The run featured three-pointers from Schauer and Cool, a three-point play from Randolph and four more points from Cool on a jumper and free throws which cut the Loper lead to just 25-24 with 5:48 to go in the first half. The hosts pushed the margin back up to lead 38-29 at halftime, and maintained a lead of 8-10 points on average throughout the early second half. When UNK's Kendrick Gilbert made a layup with 4:48 to go, the Lopers led by 13 – 73-60 – and appeared to have it locked up. The Eagles didn't go away quietly, hitting four of their nine threes for the game in a two-minute span to take a bite out of the cushion. Cool hit the first, then Schauer came up with a steal and fed Adesipe for a fastbreak three to make it 73-66. After an empty CSC possession, Cool and Russell each hit three-pointers, then Randolph went 2-for-2 from the line to make it only a 76-74 advantage for Kearney with 1:40 to go.Like in the first half, however, the Lopers were able to absorb CSC's best punch, answering with a three-pointer to push the lead back up to five. CSC comeback comes up just short at rival UNK

Terence “Bud” Crawford, the undefeated boxing champion from Omaha, Nebraska, has announced his retirement from professional boxing at age 38, bringing an end to one of the most remarkable careers in the sport’s modern era.

Crawford’s decision comes amid recent controversy involving a world title and a dispute over sanctioning fees, but his retirement announcement focused less on belts and business and more on legacy, family, and walking away on his own terms.

Earlier this month, the World Boxing Council (WBC) stripped Omaha native Terence “Bud” Crawford of its super-middleweight world title, citing unpaid sanctioning fees tied to his recent fights. The organization said it made multiple attempts to contact Crawford and his representatives before taking action.

Crawford responded forcefully in a video posted to Instagram, using strong language to criticize the WBC and its leadership. In the video, Crawford rejected the fee demand outright, saying, “I ain’t paying your ass s**t.”

He questioned why the WBC’s fees differed from those of other sanctioning bodies, saying, “What makes you so [better] than any of the other sanctioning bodies? … everybody accepted what I was giving them — but you.”

Crawford also downplayed the importance of the title itself, stating, “You can take the f**king belt. It’s a trophy anyway.”

In the same video, Crawford challenged the broader financial structure of boxing’s sanctioning system, saying, “I'm paying you every time I step foot in the [ring]? I’m [putting] my life on the line — not you.”

He additionally took aim at WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán, suggesting favoritism and frustration with the organization’s response following his most recent fight. “Mauricio, everybody in the world know you was going for Canelo… Say congratulations instead of having that little smirk on your face,” Crawford said.

While the comments fueled widespread debate within the boxing world, the dispute did not affect the outcome of Crawford’s fights or his undefeated professional record. The controversy marked a rare public rift between one of boxing’s most accomplished champions and a major sanctioning body — and became a notable moment in the closing chapter of Crawford’s career.
