Weekend High School Track Meet Results

TORONTO (AP) — José Berríos and two relievers combined on a two-hitter, Justin Turner had three hits and three RBIs and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Colorado Rockies 5-0 on Sunday for their second shutout victory of the season.

Turner opened the scoring with a two-out single in the first, doubled home a run in the third and added another two-out RBI single in the fifth against Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland.

Turner is 8 for 10 with six RBIs against left-handed pitching this season.

“He’s special right now,” Berríos said. “What a ball player.”

The Blue Jays won their second straight series after losing the previous two.

Berríos (3-0) allowed two hits, both singles, walked two and struck out seven. He extended his scoreless innings streak to 15 2/3 and lowered his ERA from 1.45 to 1.05.

“We just couldn’t solve him,” Rockies manager Bud Black said.

Colorado’s Ryan McMahon said he briefly thought he would be hit by a Berríos pitch that he struck out looking at in the third.

“He wasn’t predictable at all,” McMahon said. “He was confident to throw anything in any count. You could feel his confidence out there."

Turner praised Berríos for toughening up with runners on base.

“When he gets into jams, his ability to pitch out of it has been spectacular,” Turner said.

Toronto’s Génesis Cabrera pitched a 1-2-3 eighth and Nate Pearson struck out the side in the ninth to hand Colorado its second shutout defeat of 2024.

Freeland (0-3) allowed four runs and seven hits in five innings, losing for the third time in four starts. Freeland walked two and struck out three. His ERA went from 16.03 to 13.21.

When Turner’s bloop single drove in George Springer in the bottom of the first, it marked the 15th time in 16 games this season that Colorado’s opponent had opened the scoring.

The Rockies have allowed 23 runs in the first inning this season.

The Rockies had a season-high 20 hits in Friday’s 12-4 win but the offense didn’t keep rolling. Colorado had seven hits in a 5-3 loss on Saturday before Berríos shut the Rockies down Sunday.

After striking out 15 times Saturday, the Rockies fanned 10 times in Sunday’s series finale.

“The last couple of nights we’ve punched out,” Black said. “We’ve got to do a little better job of really bearing down with two strikes, putting the ball in play.”

Springer had two hits and scored twice for Toronto while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added an RBI single.

Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk reached base four times. Kirk walked twice and had two singles.

Rockies: OF Kris Bryant was held out of the starting lineup. Bryant left Saturday’s game in the fourth because of soreness in his right ribs and back. The 2016 NL MVP twisted and crashed into the outfield wall making a first-inning catch.

Rockies: RHP Cal Quantrill (0-2, 7.20 ERA) is expected to start Monday as Colorado opens a three-game series in Philadelphia. RHP Aaron Nola (0-1, 4.50) goes for the Phillies.

Rockies stumble in Sunday series finale at Toronto

CHADRON, Neb. -- Freshman Brooklyn Levin pitched a one-hit shutout victory to earn her first career win and propel Chadron State to a split on Sunday, falling 4-3 in game one before winning game two 3-0.

After also splitting Saturday's doubleheader, CSC improves to 7-35 overall and 7-25 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Cowgirls are now 13-25 overall and 9-25 in RMAC action.

The Eagles scored three late runs in game one but eventually fell 4-3.

New Mexico Highlands began scoring with two homers in the second inning, the first being two runs and the second a solo, making the score 3-0.

In the top of the fourth, the Cowgirls added one more run after a defensive error by CSC.

Chadron State began its comeback attempt in the bottom of the fourth. Lauren Zimmerman, a junior from Reno, Nevada, hit a single before being pinch ran for by Devyn Thornton.

After Thornton stole second, she was brought home by a Mackenzi Kroll double. The Cowgirl defense halted the threat from the Eagles, leaving the bases loaded.

The Eagles made the score 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth when Zimmerman brought Jaelyn Martinez, a sophomore from Aurora, Colorado, home with a sacrifice fly.  

CSC added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jessie Henchenski, a senior from Fort Collins, Colorado, hit a leadoff homer to center field to make the score 4-3.

Chadron State was unable to record another hit in the sixth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, runners were left stranded on first and second, ending the game 4-3 in the visitors favor.

Kenzi Garner, a junior from Broomfield, Colorado, received the complete game loss. She allowed four runs, three being earned, with three strikeouts and four walks.

The Eagles finished the game with three runs, nine hits and one error. Highlands had four runs, seven hits and two errors.

In game two, Levin, a freshman from Littleton, Colorado, only allowed one hit while striking out four batters and walking one in the complete game victory.

The Eagles had three runs and six hits in the win.

New Mexico Highlands only hit of the game was a two out single in the top of the third inning. The visitors next batter was retired.

With two outs and tied at zero entering the bottom of the fourth, Kroll, a senior from Brighton, Colorado, drew a walk. After a double by Henchenski that advanced Kroll to third, J'lyssa Martinez singled to center field to score the pair.

Martinez, a junior from Denver, Colorado, scored the third run of the inning when Jorja Sierra singled to left field, making the score 3-0.

Levin's lone walk occurred in the top of the fifth inning with one out. The Cowgirl's next batter struck out before the CSC defense used a fielder's choice for the third out.

Despite holding Chadron State to three runs, the Cowgirl's were unable to gain another base runner over the next two innings, ending the game 3-0 in CSC's favor.

Chadron State has its final road trip of the season next weekend. The Eagles will play Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado on Saturday and Sunday.

🥎 Eagles split softball series with NM Highlands

No. 23 Nebraska dropped its first weekend series of the season, as the Huskers fell 6-4 at Rutgers on Sunday afternoon at Bainton Field.

Nebraska (23-10, 6-3 Big Ten) scored four runs on nine hits and an error, while Rutgers (22-13, 3-6 Big Ten) totaled six runs on 10 hits.

Ben Columbus and Case Sanderson pieced together two-hit games for the NU offense. Dylan Carey had a solo homer, while Cayden Brumbaugh, Cole Evans, Garrett Anglim and Riley Silva recorded one hit each.

Drew Christo pitched two innings, allowing one run on two hits in his eighth start of the season. Will Walsh dropped to 3-2 on the year after surrendering three runs on five hits in 2.2 innings of work. Evan Borst walked the lone batter he faced, while Jalen Worthley pitched 2.2 innings in relief for the Huskers.

Worthley allowed two runs on three hits, while Rans Sanders recorded the final two outs for the NU pitching staff.

Nebraska broke the scoreless tie in the second, plating a run on a pair of hits to grab a 1-0 advantage. Columbus singled through the left side, while Anglim drew a full-count walk to put runners on first and second with no outs.

Silva loaded the bases with a one-out infield single, setting up Brumbaugh’s sacrifice fly to right field that scored Columbus.

Evans led off the third with a full-count walk and later came around to score on Columbus’ RBI single to right-center, doubling the Big Red’s lead to 2-0.

The Scarlet Knights got the run back in the bottom of the third after a leadoff walk, followed by an RBI double down the left-field line.

Carey opened the fourth inning with a 409-foot solo homer into the left-field berm to give the NU offense its third consecutive inning with a run across the board.

Rutgers locked the game at three in the bottom of the fourth with two runs behind four hits in the inning. A one-out solo homer brought the Scarlet Knights within a run, while three consecutive singles brought the game to a tie at three through four innings.

A leadoff single, followed by two plunked batters with two outs loaded the bases for Rutgers in the fifth inning. Borst replaced Walsh on the mound and walked the lone batter he faced on four pitches to give the Scarlet Knights a 4-3 lead. Worthley took the place of Borst and induced a groundout to second to get out of the jam for the Huskers.

The Huskers threatened in the seventh after two-out singles from Evans and Sanderson had runners on first and third for the Big Red, but the Scarlet Knights escaped the damage with a groundout to the shortstop.

Rutgers doubled the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run from Johnny Volpe.

Anglim’s one-out single through the left side, followed by a four-pitch walk to Carey had runners on first and second for the Huskers in the eighth. Consecutive passed balls brought home Anglim and brought Nebraska within 5-4 with runners on first and third with two outs. A groundout to shortstop prevented the Big Red from plating the tying run.

The Scarlet Knights added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI fielder’s choice to third, which stretched the Rutgers lead to 6-4.

Huskers baseball drops series at Rutgers

Lindsey Thiele shot a final-round 75 (+3) to take 28th individually and lead four Husker women's golfers in the top 30 at the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday.

Thiele's final-round 75 was added to Saturday rounds of 74 and 78, as the senior from Wahoo, Neb., closed with a three-round score of 227 (+11) on the par-72, 6,319-yard layout of the Scarlet Course.

Thiele finished one stroke in front of teammates Miu Takahashi, Michaela Vavrova and Arden Louchheim, who all tied for 29th in the 75-player field with 54-hole scores of 228 (+12).

Takahashi, a junior from Nasu-Machi, Japan, produced Nebraska's second-best round of the day with a 76 (+4) on Sunday, while Louchheim added a 78. Vavrova managed a 79 as Nebraska's fourth counting score in the six-count-four format. As a team, the Huskers closed with a 308 (+20) in the final round to end the tournament in 10th at 911 (305-298-308).

The hosts from Ohio State ran away with the team title by 20 strokes with a three-round total of 857 (-7), including a final-round 283. Caley McGinty led a Buckeye sweep of the top spots by taking medalist honors with a 210 (-6) to claim a four-stroke win over teammates Kary Hollenbaugh and Faith Choi, who tied for second at 214 (-2). Kailie Vongsaga added a tie for ninth to put four Buckeyes in the top 10 in the final individual standings.

Michigan State finished second at 877 (+13), while Purdue took third at 877.

Nebraska returns to action next weekend when the Huskers travel to Bulle Rock Golf Club in Havre de Grace, Md., for the Big Ten Championship (April 19-21).

Thiele leads four Huskers in top 30 at Ohio State

The Nebraska softball team erased a late five-run deficit and rallied for a 7-6 win over Rutgers in eight innings Sunday in a series-clinching victory for the Big Red.

Nebraska trailed 6-1 before tying the game with a five-run sixth inning. In the eighth, Peyton Cody drove in Billie Andrews with the winning run with a two-out RBI single. Sarah Harness then worked around a two-out walk in the bottom of the eighth to wrap up the win.

With the victory, Nebraska improved to 25-16 on the season and moved to 8-3 in Big Ten play, including a 5-1 record on the road.

Cody finished with two RBIs including the game-winner. Samantha Bland tied the game with a two-out, two-run double in the sixth inning and was 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs.&nbsp;

Nebraska finished with 11 hits in the game and overcame stranding 11 base runners.

The comeback was made possible thanks to a terrific relief outing from Harness. She entered the game in the fourth inning and allowed one run on just two hits in 5.0 innings. Harness (5-3) retired 11 of the final 12 batters. Kaylin Kinney started and allowed five runs (three earned) on three hits in 3.0-plus innings.

Mattie Boyd (15-7) took the loss, throwing a complete game. She gave up 11 hits but only three of the seven runs she allowed were earned. Rutgers fell to 26-18 with the loss and dropped to 8-6 in conference play.

Nebraska gave up four runs in the first three innings despite only allowing just one hit - a single.

Meanwhile Nebraska was frustrated by early missed opportunities offensively. The Huskers stranded two runners in the first inning and left another runner in the second. NU then stranded runners at second and third in the third inning.

Trailing 4-0 after three innings, Caitlynn Neal cut the lead to 4-1 when she led off the top of the fourth inning with a home run. Bella Bacon followed with a single and Ava Bredwell drew a one-out walk to put runners on first and second with one out. After a fly out, Katelyn Caneda lined a single to right field and Sydney Gray thought she had scored on the play but was ruled out at home plate to end the inning.

Rutgers answered the run in the bottom of the fourth. A double, a bunt single and an RBI single plated a run as the Scarlet Knights pushed their lead to 5-1.

A solo home run then pushed the lead to 6-1 after five innings.

Nebraska tied the game with five runs in the top of the sixth aided by a pair of Rutgers errors. Neal drew a leadoff walk before an error put Huskers on first and second with no outs. Gray then hit an RBI double off the wall in left to score Neal and cut the lead to 6-2. With one out, Billie Andrews won a 10-pitch at bat by drawing a walk to load the bases. Another error on an RBI fielder's choice from Caneda cut the lead to 6-3 and kept the bases loaded. A fielder's choice brought home another run to make it 6-4. Bland then hit a two-run double to center field that scored pinch runner Mckinley Malecha and Billie Andrews to tie the game.

After Harness retired Rutgers in order in the bottom of the seventh, Billie Andrews drew a one-out walk in the top of the eighth. Caneda then put down a sacrifice bunt to move Andrews to second base with two outs before Cody came through with an RBI single over the center fielder's head that gave Nebraska its first lead of the game at 7-6. Bland and Brooke Andrews followed with singles to load the bases but the Huskers could not add to their lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, Harness retired the first two batters before issuing a two-out walk. With the tying run on first base and the winning run at the plate, Harness coaxed a pop out to end the game.

Nebraska remains on the road next weekend, when the Huskers travel to Ann Arbor for a three-game series with the Michigan Wolverines.

NU softball rallies to top Rutgers, win series

Nebraska's men's golfer Harry Crockett fired a final-round 68 to finish with a career-best 203 (-10) for a Nebraska career-best second-place finish at Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City on Sunday.

Crockett, a junior from Oxted, England, came up two shots shy of Wisconsin's Cameron Huss, who won the individual title with a 54-hole score of 201 (-12) on the par-71, 7,197-yard layout of the Finkbine Golf Course. Kansas City's Lucas Dutartre, Zach Little from Central Arkansas and Edouard Cereto from Southern Illinois finished in a three-way tie for third at 207, four stroke behind Crockett.

Crockett's final round was steady and strong from start to finish, as he carded four birdies to go along with 13 pars and just one bogey on the day. His final-round 68 (-3) followed rounds of 67 and 68 on Saturday.

Fellow Husker junior Hamish Murray added a solid round of his own on Sunday with a 69 (-2) to climb to a tie for 51st at 218 (+5) in the individual standings. Murray's final round included a team-best six birdies on Sunday. Sophomore Davis Johnson put up Nebraska's No. 3 score of the round with an even-par 71 to finish in a tie for 69th at 221 (+8), while fifth-year senior Will Marshall added Nebraska's final counting score in the five-count-four format with a 75 to tie for 45th overall at 217 (+4) over 54 holes.

Sophomore Quinn Yost managed a 76 to tie for 57th at 219 (+6) for the tournament, while senior Gentry Scheve carded a final-round 69 to tie for 32nd overall at 215 (+2) while playing as an individual outside Nebraska's lineup.

The Huskers put together three consistent rounds of 283, 284 and 283 to finish at 850 (-2) for the tournament, finishing in seventh place. Nebraska defeated the highest ranked team in the field, No. 65 Kansas, by nine strokes.

Wisconsin won the team title at 840 (-12), while TCU and Southern Illinois tied for second at 845 (-7). Illinois State and Central Arkansas tied for fourth at 846, while the hosts from Iowa closed just three shots in front of the Huskers in sixth at 847 (-5).

Nebraska will take a week off from competition before returning to action at the 2024 Big Ten Championship in Columbus, Ohio (April 26-28).

Hemingford Coach Dean talks All-star-football game, Track & Field season

The Nebraska women’s golf team concludes its 2023-24 regular-season tournament schedule by traveling to Columbus, Ohio for the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational, April 13-14.

The Huskers will take on a 12-team field loaded with 11 Big Ten Conference teams on the par-72, 6,319-yard layout of the Scarlet Course on the Ohio State campus. The Buckeye Invitational will serve as a preview to next week’s Big Ten Championship (April 19-21) at the Bulle Rock Golf Club in Havre de Grace, Md.

The Buckeye Invitational will tee off on Saturday, April 13 with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CT). After playing 36 holes on Saturday, golfers in the six-count-four team format will close the tournament with Sunday’s final-round shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CT).

Live scoring for the event will be available on Huskers.com from&nbsp;<a href="https://golfstat.com/" target="_blank">GolfStat</a>.

The field features 11 top-100 teams, including No. 30 Michigan State, No. 32 Purdue, No. 42 Ohio State, No. 57 Minnesota, No. 64 Illinois, No. 65 Kent State, No. 66 Nebraska, No. 70 Wisconsin, No. 75 Indiana, No. 88 Rutgers and No. 93 Iowa along with No. 106 Penn State.&nbsp;

The Huskers will be without their top golfer and national No. 75 Kelli Ann Strand, who is recovering from injury in hopes of being ready for the Big Ten Championship.

The sophomore from Challis, Idaho, owns eight individual top-20 finishes in nine events this season and carries a school-record 70.77 stroke average over 26 rounds this season. The Buckeye Invitational will mark her first time out of Nebraska’s lineup since winning an individual title at the Green Wave Classic to open her college career in New Orleans (Sept. 12-13, 2022).

Lindsey Thiele will play out of the top spot in Nebraska’s lineup at Ohio State. The senior from Wahoo, Neb., is coming off a tie for 20th with a 217 (+1) at the Florida State Match Up (March 15-16). Thiele ranks second among the Huskers with a 73.35 stroke average over 17 rounds this season.

Miu Takahashi, who has produced three straight top-30 finishes, will play out of the No. 2 spot. The junior from Nasu-Machi, Japan, has competed in all 26 rounds this season and carries a 73.46 stroke average.&nbsp;

Senior Michaela Vavrova (Bojnice, Slovakia) will occupy the No. 3 spot, while freshman Arden Loucheim will compete out of the No. 4 position in the Husker lineup.&nbsp;

Germans Sydney Harz and Lena Hassert complete Nebraska’s six-player lineup. Hassert, a junior from Kreuzau, will be making her fifth lineup appearance of the season for the Big Red. Harz, a redshirt freshman from Freiburg will be making her second appearance of the spring after earning a lineup spot at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational (Feb. 18-19).

In her second season as Nebraska’s head coach, Jeanne Sutherland is in pursuit of her 20th NCAA Regional appearance in 2024. Sutherland, who spent one season as Nebraska’s associate head coach (2021-22), was named head coach on May 5, 2022. She came to Nebraska after spending 10 seasons (2011-21) as the head coach at SMU. She previously spent 15 seasons as the head coach at Texas A&amp;M (1992-2007).

Sutherland has coached three All-Americans, five individual conference champions and three conference players of the year.

In 2018, Sutherland was named the inaugural winner of the WGCA Kim Evans Award. She also earned the WGCA Founders Award in 2017. A four-time conference coach of the year at Texas A&amp;M (3 Big 12, 1 Southwest Conference), Sutherland was also a two-time NCAA Regional Coach of the Year (1997, 2007). She led 13 Texas A&amp;M teams to NCAA Regional play, including four NCAA Championship appearances in 1997 (17th), 2004 (24th), 2005 (22nd) and 2006 (19th).&nbsp;

Sutherland coached SMU to five straight NCAA bids (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017).

Kelli Ann Strand captured All-Big Ten honors as a true freshman in 2022-23.

Strand was one of eight second-team All-Big Ten choices for 2023, while the conference also announced eight first-team honorees.

She capped one of the best seasons in school history by tying for 30th at the NCAA Raleigh Regional, after tying for 20th at her first Big Ten Championship. Strand set a school record with a 72.05 stroke average on her way to final top 115 national rankings by both Golfweek and GolfStat.

Strand has continued to play outstanding golf, leading Nebraska with a 70.77 stroke average over 26 rounds that puts her on school-record pace for the season. She has climbed to No. 75 in the Scorecard National Rankings.

Strand produced a runner-up finish with a 206 (-10) at the Dale McNamara Invitational (Oct. 9-10). With rounds of 70-66-70, Strand earned Big Ten Golfer-of-the-Week honors (Oct. 11). She added another Big Ten weekly honor (Feb. 7) after a tie for sixth with a 210 (-6) to open the spring at the UCF Challenge (Feb. 3-5).

The sophomore from Challis, Idaho owns 17 career top-25 finishes, including 10 top-10 showings after a tie for ninth at the Florida State Match Up (March 15-16). She took fifth with a season-best 204 (-12) at the 2024 Westbrook Spring Invitational (Feb. 25-26).&nbsp;

She claimed an individual title in her collegiate debut at the Green Wave Classic in New Orleans (Sept. 12-13, 2022). Strand tied the school record with a 54-hole score of 202 (-14) at Tulane. She also set the Husker freshman record with a second-round 65 (-7) at the Bayou Oaks South Course.&nbsp;

Strand fired a 29 (-7) over the back nine in the second round before opening the third round with a 31 (-5) on the front nine, carding a 60 (-12) over those consecutive 18 holes splitting two rounds. The NCAA record for best round of women’s golf is 61. Strand also was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week (Sept. 15, 2022).

Strand, who earned her second straight Idaho Golf Association Women’s Player of the Year award in December of 2022, won the Idaho Women’s Match Play title. She added a runner-up finish at the Idaho Women’s Amateur.&nbsp;

During the summer of 2023, Strand qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship. She also advanced to the round of 32 in match play at the Women’s Western Amateur.

Takahashi Named Nebraska Women’s Amateur of the Year for 2023

Miu Takahashi was named the 2023 state Women’s Amateur of the Year by the Nebraska Golf Association. The junior from Nasu-Machi, Japan is the first-ever international winner of Nebraska’s top female amateur award, which dates back to 1997. She claimed the honor after winning the 49th Nebraska Women’s Amateur Championship. She was the first international player to ever win the tournament, dating back to its inception in 1975.

Takahashi also qualified for the 123rd U.S. Women’s Amateur by claiming a spot in Dallas, Texas. She fired rounds of 78 and 73 at the U.S. Amateur in Los Angeles.&nbsp;

Takahashi owns a 73.46 stroke average over 26 rounds for the Huskers in 2023-24, including a career-best 211 (-5) to tie for 29th at the Westbrook Spring Invitational (Feb. 25-26).

As a sophomore, she was a key to Nebraska’s run to a 2023 NCAA Regional berth, setting the NU sophomore record with a 73.49 stroke average. Her 2022-23 season included an individual title with a season-best 213 (-3) at the Dale McNamara Invitational (Oct. 10-11, 2022). She was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week (Oct. 12, 2022).&nbsp;

Michaela Vavrova was Nebraska’s top finisher at its first two tournaments of the fall and played out of the No. 1 spot in the lineup at the Dale McNamara Invitational (Oct. 9-10).

The senior from Bojnice, Slovakia led the Huskers with a career-best 205 (-11) to tie for fifth individually at the Sam Golden Invitational (Sept. 11-12). She fired rounds of 69-68-68 on the par-72, 6,413-yard layout of the Oakmont Country Club in Corinth, Texas, to earn Big Ten Golfer-of-the-Week honors for the second time in her career on Sept. 13.

Vavrova added a 223 (72-77-74) to help NU tie for sixth in a loaded 15-team field at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. (Sept. 17-18). She finished the fall with a career-best 72.92 stroke average over 12 rounds.

Vavrova overcame an up-and-down junior season to help the Huskers advance to the NCAA Raleigh Regional.

The 2022 and 2023 Slovakian Player of the Year, Vavrova has been a key to Nebraska’s success, including her tie for 17th at the 2022 Big Ten Championship. She owns a pair of top-50 NCAA Regional finishes.

Vavrova finished second at the 2022 Slovak Amateur Championship and 12th at the AMUNDI Czech Ladies Challenge. She also represented Slovakia at the 2022 World University Golf Championships in Turin, leading Slovakia to a ninth-place finish.

Vavrova won her first title with a then-career-best 217 (+1) at the Stampede at The Creek in Elkhorn, Neb. (Oct. 4-5, 2021). She was named the Big Ten Co-Golfer of the Week (Oct. 6).

Thiele Plans to Provide Leadership&nbsp;in Senior Season for Big Red

Lindsey Thiele earned her first top-10 finish of the season by tying for seventh (143, -1) at the rain-shortened Spartan Sun Coast Invitational in Sarasota, Fla. (Feb. 18-19).&nbsp;

She added a strong showing with a season-best three-round score of 212 (-4) to tie for 32nd at the Westbrook Spring Invitational (Feb. 25-26), before tying for 20th with a 217 (+1) at the Florida State Match Up (March 15-16).

She ranks second among the Huskers with a 73.35 stroke average on the season.

Thiele (pronounced TEEL)&nbsp; was Nebraska’s No. 2 finisher at the 2023 Big Ten Championship, tying for 34th (228), helping NU secure a bid to the 2023 NCAA Raleigh Regional.

Thiele finished with a career-best 74.88 stroke average while competing in all 38.5 rounds. She notched a pair of top-25 finishes, including a tie for eighth at the Green Wave Classic to open the season (Sept. 12-13, 2022).&nbsp;

The most recent of three sisters (Haley, Hannah) to play golf for the Big Red, Thiele is an outstanding student and leader in community service. The Regents Scholar at Nebraska is a three-time WGCA Scholastic

All-American and a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. She was also a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District VII selection in 2023.

Thiele participated alongside teammate Megan Whittaker in the 2023 Nebraska Life Skills No Filter Service Trip Abroad to Panama.

Nebraska leads NCAA Division I with 354 College Sports Communicators Academic All-Americans all-time across all sports. The Huskers also lead all schools in history with 18 NCAA Top 10 Award winners across all sports.&nbsp;

Nebraska women’s golf leads the nation with 94 WGCA Scholastic All-Americans since 1989, including four in 2022-23. Megan Whittaker, Lindsey Thiele, Kelli Ann Strand and Andrea Velez all earned WGCA honors.&nbsp;

Whittaker became NU’s first five-time WGCA Scholastic All-American. Thiele, who earned her third WGCA honor, joins her older sisters Haley (2016, 2018, 2019) and Hannah (2018) as WGCA Scholastic All-America Huskers.

Huskers in the PollsNebraska track and field moved up seven spots in the USTFCCCA week three women's rankings, coming in at fourth. That marks the highest team ranking for the women's program since being No. 4 in the 2006 final poll.

The NU women have posted eight marks inside the top-20 nationally, while adding nine Nebraska all-time marks.

Rhema Otabor threw an NCAA-leading 191-10 (58.47m) in her javelin season debut last weekend, while Mirta Kulisic is ranked 12th (175-3, 53.41m) and Emanuela Casadei (175-0, 53.35m) is at 13th in the event. Adding to the throws success, reigning national champion Axelina Johansson has the second-best shot put mark of the season 60-11 1/4 (18.57m), Mine De Klerk is 10th in the shot put (57-4 3/4, 17.49m) and Hillevi Carlsson is 18th in the hammer throw (206-3, 62.87m). In the jumps, Ashley McElmurry posted a 43-9 (13.33m) in the triple jump over the weekend to move up to fifth in the NCAA and Lishanna Ilves ranks 18th in the long jump with a 21-0 (6.40m).

In Tuesday's polls, the Husker women were also ranked first in the Big Ten Conference, while being named the top-ranked long jump, shot put and javelin event squads in the country.

On the men’s side, Darius Luff is tied for fourth in the NCAA with a 13.42 in the 110m hurdles, Niko Schultz is eighth in the 800m with a 1:47.40, Micaylon Moore is ninth in the triple jump with a 52-1 (15.87m), Terrol Wilson is 11th in the triple jump with a 51-9 (15.77m) and Kevin Shubert is 15th in the shot put with a 62-0 ½ (18.91m).

Otabor Tabbed Big Ten Field Athlete of the WeekNebraska track and field's Rhema Otabor claimed the Big Ten Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor, announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Otabor threw an NCAA-leading mark in the javelin on Friday at the Jim Click Shootout to lead a Nebraska top-four sweep. The 191-10 (58.47m) is currently first in the NCAA and won her the title during her season debut. The senior from Nassau, Bahamas is the reigning NCAA Champion and Big Ten Champion in the javelin, while she also holds the No. 2 mark in school history.

This is Nebraska's first conference weekly award during the outdoor season, but its sixth overall during 2024. The last time a Husker woman won a Big Ten weekly award was when Otabor brought in the same honor last season on April 26.

The next meets for the Huskers include the Bryan Clay Invitational April 11-13 in Azusa, Calif., and the Michael Johnson Invitational April 19-20 in Waco, Texas.

2024 Indoor Season RecapThe Husker men and women closed the indoor season inside the top 25, with the men tying for 12th and the women claiming 25th at the NCAA Championships. Out of 12 Husker entries, eight earned First-Team All-America honors by placing in the top eight.

Till Steinforth recorded his highest-career NCAA finish in the heptathlon to finish third, a day after becoming the first Husker to become a long jump First-Team All-American in the last decade with a seventh-place finish. The last Husker to place third or higher in the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships was Björn Barrefors in 2009. Tyus Wilson and Jenna Rogers each pitched in a top-eight finish in the high jump, while Micaylon Moore represented NU as a First-Team All-American in the triple jump. Rhianna Phipps placed fifth in the triple jump, Mine De Klerk took seventh in the shot put and Henry Zimmerman finished seventh in the weight throw to round out Nebraska’s First-Team All-Americans.

With Nebraska sending 11 athletes and 12 entries to the NCAA Championships, that marked the most athletes to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2010 and the most entries since 2011.

That marks the highest team ranking for the women's program since being No. 4 in the 2006 final poll.The NU women have posted eight marks inside the top-20 nationally, while adding nine Nebraska all-time marks.Rhema Otabor threw an NCAA-leading 191-10 (58.47m) in her javelin season debut last weekend, while Mirta Kulisic is ranked 12th (175-3, 53.41m) and Emanuela Casadei (175-0, 53.35m) is at 13th in the event. Adding to the throws success, reigning national champion Axelina Johansson has the second-best shot put mark of the season 60-11 1/4 (18.57m), Mine De Klerk is 10th in the shot put (57-4 3/4, 17.49m) and Hillevi Carlsson is 18th in the hammer throw (206-3, 62.87m). In the jumps, Ashley McElmurry posted a 43-9 (13.33m) in the triple jump over the weekend to move up to fifth in the NCAA and Lishanna Ilves ranks 18th in the long jump with a 21-0 (6.40m).In Tuesday's polls, the Husker women were also ranked first in the Big Ten Conference, while being named the top-ranked long jump, shot put and javelin event squads in the country.On the men’s side, Darius Luff is tied for fourth in the NCAA with a 13.42 in the 110m hurdles, Niko Schultz is eighth in the 800m with a 1:47.40, Micaylon Moore is ninth in the triple jump with a 52-1 (15.87m), Terrol Wilson is 11th in the triple jump with a 51-9 (15.77m) and Kevin Shubert is 15th in the shot put with a 62-0 ½ (18.91m).Otabor Tabbed Big Ten Field Athlete of the WeekNebraska track and field's Rhema Otabor claimed the Big Ten Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor, announced by the conference office on Wednesday.Otabor threw an NCAA-leading mark in the javelin on Friday at the Jim Click Shootout to lead a Nebraska top-four sweep. The 191-10 (58.47m) is currently first in the NCAA and won her the title during her season debut. The senior from Nassau, Bahamas is the reigning NCAA Champion and Big Ten Champion in the javelin, while she also holds the No. 2 mark in school history.This is Nebraska's first conference weekly award during the outdoor season, but its sixth overall during 2024. Altogether, 26 performances either broke into the all-time list for the first time or moved up the list during the indoor season.2023 Outdoor Season RecapNebraska’s last outdoor season was marked by the men claiming the Big Ten title and the women finishing third. Both finishes were the best placements since the 2016 season. The team combined for 12 event titles throughout the meet. The women, powered by Axelina Johansson (shot put) and Rhema Otabor (javelin) bringing in NCAA titles, took eighth place at the NCAA Championships. That was the best finish since the 2006 season, when the Huskers tied for fourth. The men tied for 17th, their best team finish in seven years. The men and women combined for eight First-Team All-America honors, seven school records and 32 new top-10 marks throughout the outdoor season.
