COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Before the 2024 season began, Chadron State football had big expectations for transfer quarterback DJ Ralph. An injury in the season opener set things back a few weeks, but Ralph made good on his promise last Saturday with a fantastic and flawless performance against Adams State, which has earned him the RMAC's Offensive Player of the Week award from the conference office.   

Ralph completed 20 of 29 passes for 183 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions through the air, then added 56 net rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground to lead Chadron State in the Eagles' 52-3 win over the Grizzlies.  

The Californian's four total touchdowns were the most of anybody in the RMAC this week. Ralph completed touchdown passes of eight yards to Grant Swenson, one yard to Rollin George III and 22 yards to Jamahd Monroe, then provided the most electrifying play of the day with his legs by scampering for a 41-yard rushing touchdown on a read-option keeper. Ralph's 41-yard run was the longest play from scrimmage of the season for Chadron State in 2024.

With Ralph at the forefront, Saturday's game was a coming out party for the offense as a whole. The Eagles scored 52 points, more than doubling their season total of 38 entering the game. Chadron State put up season-highs in both passing (183) and rushing yards (234) and finished the contest with three passing, three rushing and one defensive touchdown.

Ralph, who has appeared in three of CSC's five games, has completed 26 of 41 total pass attempts for 213 yards this season and has yet to turn the ball over. He is also averaging 3.5 yards per carry with his legs, as he has 60 net yards on 17 attempts. With 29 pass attempts against Adams State, Saturday was by far his most extensive action of the season, as he threw just three passes before getting hurt against Nebraska-Kearney and nine passes against Colorado Mesa while splitting time with Wyatt Sprague.

Chadron State football has now completed the trifecta of weekly awards, with one win across each category over the last three weeks. Two weeks ago, safety Dax Yeradi won the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week award before punter Brodie Eisenbraun nabbed the Special Teams Player of the Week honor last week.

Through six weeks, Chadron State's three award wins are the third-most of any RMAC school, trailing only CSU Pueblo (five) and Colorado Mesa (four) and tied with Colorado School of Mines (three).

With three award wins on the season, CSC has already exceeded its totals from the past two seasons, when the Eagles won two awards each year. Tommy Thomas (offensive) and Hunter O'Connor (defensive) took home one award apiece in 2023 while 2022 saw a defensive win from O'Connor and a special teams win from former Eagles kicker Gunnar Jones.

Chadron State (2-3, 1-2 RMAC) is on the road this weekend against New Mexico Highlands (0-5, 0-3 RMAC), with kickoff set for noon in Las Vegas, New Mexico. The following weekend, on October 19, CSC will host Fort Lewis for the annual homecoming game at 1 p.m. from Elliott Field. The Skyhawks are 1-4 this season, with an 0-3 record in RMAC play.

🥎⛳ Sub & District Scoreboard - Monday, October 8

SPEARFISH, S.D. - Chadron State defeats Black Hills State in four sets. The scores were 25-19, 25-19, 21-25, 25-13. 

The Eagles improved their record (4-10) overall and are 0-4 in RMAC play. The Yellow Jackets are now (4-10) and 0-4 in conference play. 

Kally Kirkwood led Chadron State with 12 kills and had a .444 hitting percentage while Alondra Hernandez had 19 digs. As a team the Eagles .307, had 56 kills, and 10 errors. The Yellow Jackets hit .156 as a team, with 51 kills, and 26 errors.  

In the first set, the Eagles went on a 4-0 run to open up a 8-4 lead taking advantage of back-to-back attack errors. The Eagles extended their lead to 12-7 after back-to-back kills by Mataya Ward and an error by Yellow Jackets. A service error and kill by Carsyn Mettler stopped the damage, but three attack errors by the Yellow Jackets maintained the Eagles lead making the score 15-9. The Yellow Jackets found a way to close the lead after 2 errors and a kill by Mettler. However, a 3-0 run helped the Eagles pull ahead 24-18. A kill by Alejandra Briseno ended the first set 25-19. 

The Yellow Jackets took the lead early in the second set, after a service error they responded with three kills, one by Carsyn Mettler and two by Abigail Renner to make the score 4-0. A kill by Bella Adams started a 6-0 run for the Eagles, during that run Rylee Ward contributed three aces making the score 7-5. The Eagles maintained the lead until the Yellow Jackets when on a 5-0 run taking the lead 15-14. However, the Eagles took back the lead after going on an 8-0 run with four kills from Briseno and three kills from Kirkwood making the score 24-17. A service error ended the set 25-19 Chadron State.  

The third set started off close until the Yellow Jackets pulled ahead 15-11. After a kill from Kirkwood the Yellow Jackets responded with three kills from Mettler and an ace Ellie Thomas to make the score 19-12 Black Hills State. The Yellow Jackets maintained the lead for the rest of the set.  A kill by Mettler ended the set 25-21 Black Hills State.  

The Eagles jumped to a 6-2 lead in the fourth set, using three errors and a kill from Aiyana Fujiyama to help build that lead. A 4-0 run extended the Eagles lead 17-10. A kill by Kirkwood ended the fourth set 25-13. 

The Eagles are now (4-10) overall and are 0-4 in RMAC play. The Yellow Jackets improved their record to (3-9) and 1-3 in conference play. 

Chadron State will take the court Oct.11 at 6 p.m. against UCCS. The Mountain Lions are 7-6 and 2-2 in RMAC play.

🏐 CSC offense blisters Black Hills State for RMAC road win

LINCOLN, Neb. - The No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team swept the Iowa Hawkeyes 25-17, 25-11, 25-13 on Sunday afternoon at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in front of a crowd of 8,667.&nbsp;

In their 11th straight win, the Huskers (14-1, 4-0 Big Ten) hit .404 and held Iowa (8-8, 2-2 Big Ten) to .155.

Nebraska had seven aces and just one service error. The last time the Huskers had at least seven aces with one or fewer service errors was Nov. 12, 2017 against Rutgers (nine aces, one error). Lexi Rodriguez had three of NU's aces to go with a match-high 12 digs.&nbsp;

Merritt Beason led NU offensively with 10 kills on .400 hitting and added five digs. Leyla Blackwell had a season-high nine kills on .692 hitting, and Rebekah Allick had nine kills and hit .583 with three blocks. Harper Murray added seven kills on .353 hitting with two aces. Lindsay Krause chipped in five kills on six swings (.833) all in the third set.&nbsp;

Bergen Reilly contributed 35 assists, and Kennedi Orr and Laney Choboy each had five digs.&nbsp;

The Huskers did not surrender an ace to the Hawkeyes. NU's last eight opponents have combined for just seven aces.&nbsp;

Michelle Urquhart led Iowa with 11 kills on a .269 hitting percentage.

Set 1: Blackwell notched three kills and a solo block to propel the Huskers to an 8-4 lead. Iowa brought the score to 10-10 before Rodriguez went to the service line and sparked a 4-0 run for NU that included kills by Beason and Murray and an ace by Rodriguez. A Reilly kill and Murray ace put the Big Red up 18-12 and forced a Hawkeye timeout. Beason scored her fifth kill to give Nebraska set point, and Allick put down an overpass to close out the 25-17 set victory. NU hit .333 and sided out at a 77.8% mark.&nbsp;

Set 2: Behind an ace from Rodriguez and kills from Murray and Blackwell, the Huskers took a 6-2 lead. Five straight errors from Iowa stretched the advantage to 11-3. Two kills from Landfair and one from Allick powered a 4-0 run to put the Big Red up 16-6. Kills by Murray and Beason and Rodriguez’ third ace of the match extended Nebraska’s lead to 22-9. NU finished out the set, 25-11, with two kills by Blackwell and one by Reilly. Through two sets, Nebraska’s middles combined for 16 kills and no errors for a combined hitting percentage of .800.&nbsp;

Set 3: A Beason kill and solo block, Krause kill and Reilly ace were part of a 5-0 run to put NU up 13-5. Krause notched two kills and Murray registered an ace and a kill to help give the Huskers a 22-12 lead late in the third. A Krause/Allick block and an Allick solo block closed out the set, 25-13, and the match, 3-0.

Huskers rout Hawkeyes, 3-0

CHADRON, Neb. – Chadron State football scored 52 points, more than doubling its season total, as the Eagles soared to a 52-3 win over Adams State from Elliott Field at Don Beebe Stadium Saturday afternoon.

A 21-point second quarter got the Eagles off and running, allowing CSC to improve to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in RMAC play. Adams State falls 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the RMAC.

The Eagles led 28-0 at halftime, outgained the Grizzlies 417-99 and came away with three interceptions while not turning the ball over. Seven different Eagle players found the endzone, led by quarterback DJ Ralph, who completed 20 of 29 passes for three touchdowns and no interceptions while also racking up 56 yards and a rushing touchdown on the ground.

Grant Swenson, Rollin George III and Jamahd Monroe all caught touchdowns from Ralph, while former First Team All-RMAC receiver Tommy Thomas caught a game-high six passes for 33 yards in his return to the lineup from an injury in the season opener.

The Eagles received rushing touchdowns from Jake Marschall, Chase Nelson and Ralph as part of a 234-yard day on the ground for the team. The defense also got in on the scoring, with linebacker Logan O'Brien running in a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Both teams combined to go three-and-out on the first three drives of the game, with Adams State punting twice and the Eagles once. On CSC's second drive, the Eagles drove 41 yards on nine plays, with Ralph hitting Garet Schlabs for a key third-down conversion before hitting Grant Swenson over the middle for an 8-yard touchdown pass to put the Eagles up 7-0.

In the second quarter, Ralph fed Rollin George III, who made a 10-yard catch to give Chadron State first and goal before scoring on a jet-sweep shovel pass moving from left to right to make it 14-0, Eagles.

With six-and-a-half minutes left in the first half, the CSC pass rush forced Adams quarterback Alexander Grado to throw early out of a sack. Junior linebacker Logan O'Brien corralled the floating pass and ran down the near sideline for a score, the first defensive touchdown of the season for Chadron State.

On CSC's next drive, Ralph kept the ball on a read option, breaking two tackles and scampering for a 41-yard rushing touchdown to make it 28-0 before the half. The 41-yard run is the longest of the season so far for a Chadron State rusher.

The Eagles picked up where they left off after halftime, taking the opening second-half kickoff and putting together an 11-play drive that ended in a Wilson Yee field goal. On the ensuing Adams State drive, a Grado pass took a huge deflection off the helmet of a Chadron cornerback and went all the way back towards the line of scrimmage, where All-RMAC defensive tackle Tanner True made a diving interception to give the Eagles the ball back.

Chadron took advantage of the short field, scoring on three plays when Ralph hit Jahamd Monroe in stride for a 22-yard passing touchdown in the end zone. With the grab, Monroe joined Swenson as the only CSC offensive players with multiple rushing or receiving touchdowns in 2024.

Adams State scored a field goal, but Chadron State answered with its longest drive of the day in terms of plays, going 76 yards in 14 plays. The Eagles relied heavily on the run, as Jake Marschall got six carries on the drive, including a 1-yard touchdown run.

The final Eagles score of the day came on an 8-yard carry courtesy of Chase Nelson, a redshirt freshman running back who went off for a career-high 48 rushing yards on eight carries and 46 receiving yards on three catches. Entering the game today, Nelson had no career carries and one reception for four yards.

Chadron State's defense competed the entire game, holding Adams State to eight first downs, 54 rushing yards and 45 net passing yards. Redshirt freshman defensive back Jahmir Everett snared his first career interception in his second career game with six minutes left.

The Eagles' 49-point margin of victory is their third largest ever against Adams State, trailing a 52-0 win in 2000 and a 58-0 in 2007.

Chadron State is on the road next week against New Mexico Highlands, who lost 67-20 to nationally-ranked CSU Pueblo on Saturday. In two weeks on October 19, the Eagles will play Fort Lewis at home as part of homecoming weekend.

Seven different Eagle players found the endzone, led by quarterback DJ Ralph, who completed 20 of 29 passes for three touchdowns and no interceptions while also racking up 56 yards and a rushing touchdown on the ground.Grant Swenson, Rollin George III and Jamahd Monroe all caught touchdowns from Ralph, while former First Team All-RMAC receiver Tommy Thomas caught a game-high six passes for 33 yards in his return to the lineup from an injury in the season opener.The Eagles received rushing touchdowns from Jake Marschall, Chase Nelson and Ralph as part of a 234-yard day on the ground for the team. The defense also got in on the scoring, with linebacker Logan O'Brien running in a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown.Both teams combined to go three-and-out on the first three drives of the game, with Adams State punting twice and the Eagles once. On CSC's second drive, the Eagles drove 41 yards on nine plays, with Ralph hitting Garet Schlabs for a key third-down conversion before hitting Grant Swenson over the middle for an 8-yard touchdown pass to put the Eagles up 7-0.In the second quarter, Ralph fed Rollin George III, who made a 10-yard catch to give Chadron State first and goal before scoring on a jet-sweep shovel pass moving from left to right to make it 14-0, Eagles.With six-and-a-half minutes left in the first half, the CSC pass rush forced Adams quarterback Alexander Grado to throw early out of a sack. Junior linebacker Logan O'Brien corralled the floating pass and ran down the near sideline for a score, the first defensive touchdown of the season for Chadron State.On CSC's next drive, Ralph kept the ball on a read option, breaking two tackles and scampering for a 41-yard rushing touchdown to make it 28-0 before the half. The 41-yard run is the longest of the season so far for a Chadron State rusher.The Eagles picked up where they left off after halftime, taking the opening second-half kickoff and putting together an 11-play drive that ended in a Wilson Yee field goal. On the ensuing Adams State drive, a Grado pass took a huge deflection off the helmet of a Chadron cornerback and went all the way back towards the line of scrimmage, where All-RMAC defensive tackle Tanner True made a diving interception to give the Eagles the ball back.Chadron took advantage of the short field, scoring on three plays when Ralph hit Jahamd Monroe in stride for a 22-yard passing touchdown in the end zone. With the grab, Monroe joined Swenson as the only CSC offensive players with multiple rushing or receiving touchdowns in 2024.Adams State scored a field goal, but Chadron State answered with its longest drive of the day in terms of plays, going 76 yards in 14 plays. The Eagles relied heavily on the run, as Jake Marschall got six carries on the drive, including a 1-yard touchdown run.The final Eagles score of the day came on an 8-yard carry courtesy of Chase Nelson, a redshirt freshman running back who went off for a career-high 48 rushing yards on eight carries and 46 receiving yards on three catches. Entering the game today, Nelson had no career carries and one reception for four yards.Chadron State's defense competed the entire game, holding Adams State to eight first downs, 54 rushing yards and 45 net passing yards. Redshirt freshman defensive back Jahmir Everett snared his first career interception in his second career game with six minutes left.The Eagles' 49-point margin of victory is their third largest ever against Adams State, trailing a 52-0 win in 2000 and a 58-0 in 2007.Chadron State is on the road next week against New Mexico Highlands, who lost 67-20 to nationally-ranked CSU Pueblo on Saturday. In two weeks on October 19, the Eagles will play Fort Lewis at home as part of homecoming weekend.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The No. 2 Nebraska volleyball team won its 10th straight match with a 25-18, 25-22, 25-17 sweep of Illinois in front of a crowd of 4,352 on Thursday night.

Nebraska improved to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in Big Ten play, while Illinois dropped to 8-5 on the season and 0-3 in the Big Ten.

The Huskers hit .305 and held the Fighting Illini to .217. Nebraska had five service aces with just one error, while Illinois committed 11 service errors and had just two aces. NU also had a decisive edge in blocks, 12-3.

Merritt Beason had 10 kills and hit .421 with seven blocks. Harper Murray tallied nine kills on .348 hitting with 11 digs, and Taylor Landfair added eight kills.

Leyla Blackwell started at middle blocker and recorded six kills on .385 hitting with three blocks. Rebekah Allick had a team-best nine blocks to go with four kills.&nbsp;

Bergen Reilly dished out 30 assists with eight digs and three kills. Lexi Rodriguez provided a match-high 14 digs.

Raina Terry and Averie Hernandez led Illinois with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.

Set 1: After falling behind 4-0, the Huskers fought back to go up 7-6 after a 4-0 run of their own. A kill and ace by Murray, and consecutive kills by Reilly, Blackwell and Landfair made it 12-7 Huskers. Illinois pulled within 15-14, but two Illini attacking errors and kills by Beason and Murray put the Big Red up 20-15. A pair of kills by Landfair made it 23-17 Huskers, and Landfair put the set away, 25-18.

Set 2: Nebraska led 8-6 after a Blackwell kill, but Illinois went a 6-0 run including five straight kills, four by Hernandez. Illinois led 15-11 when Allick posted a solo block, and a block by Beason and Blackwell brought the Huskers within 16-14. Murray pounded a kill to cut it to 16-15, and the Illini took a timeout. After the break, Beason terminated from the right pin to tie the score, and Rodriguez served an ace for a 17-16 Husker lead. After an Illinois kill, Beason posted a kill of her own followed by an ace for a 19-17 advantage. But Illinois scored four in a row to go back on top, 21-19. Murray posted a sideout kill, and Landfair put down an overpass to tie the set at 21-21. Blackwell connected for a kill and a 22-21 lead. After an Illinois timeout, Reilly and Blackwell combined for a block to make it 23-21, and a kill by Landfair earned set point at 24-22. An ace by Kennedi Orr, her second of the match, gave the Huskers a 25-22 victory.

Set 3: Blackwell had three early kills and a block to help the Big Red to a 7-5 lead. But a 4-0 run by the Illini put them ahead 9-7. Reilly dumped a kill, and the Huskers gained a 13-11 edge after back-to-back kills by Murray. A kill by Beason and two more by Murray increased the lead to three, 16-13. A 3-0 run put the Huskers up 20-15. Lindsay Krause had a kill, and Beason and Allick combined for a block before an Allick kill. After Illinois cut it to 20-17, Allick and Krause posted a block, and Allick terminated again for a 22-17 Husker lead. Allick closed out the match, 25-17, with a kill in between two blocks with Beason. The Huskers ended the set on an 8-2 run, and Allick was involved in scoring NU's final seven points as the Huskers finished with seven blocks in the set.&nbsp;

Huskers sweep Illinois

• The second-ranked Nebraska volleyball team plays its first conference road match of the season when it travels to Champaign, Ill., for a 6 p.m. match on Thursday against the Illinois Fighting Illini at Huff Hall.

• Thursday’s match will be televised nationally on FS1 and streamed on the Fox Sports App. &nbsp;

• Huskers Radio Network with John Baylor and Lauren (Cook) West will broadcast all the action on their volleyball affiliate stations, on Huskers.com and on the Huskers App.&nbsp;

• Nebraska has won nine matches in a row since a loss at SMU on Sept. 3. Seven of the nine wins have been sweeps.&nbsp;

• The Huskers rank 10th nationally and second in the Big Ten with a team hitting percentage of .291.

• Outside hitter Harper Murray is leading the Huskers with 3.19 kills per set.&nbsp;

RODRIGUEZ AMONG ALL-TIME GREAT NU LIBEROS

• Lexi Rodriguez is in her final year of a stellar career as the Huskers’ libero. A four-year starter and a three-year team captain, Rodriguez will go down in history as one of the all-time greats in Nebraska volleyball history.&nbsp;

• Rodriguez has 1,588 career digs, which ranks third in school history. In the home wins over UCLA and USC, she passed Jennifer Saleaumua and Nicklin Hames to move to No. 3 on NU’s all-time digs list. U.S. Olympian Justine Wong-Orantes is the career leader in digs at NU with 1,890. Kayla Banwarth is second with 1,706 career digs.&nbsp;

• On Sept. 30, Rodriguez was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the sixth time in her career. She averaged 4.71 digs per set in the first weekend of conference play, helping the Huskers hold UCLA and USC to season-low hitting percentages at the time.&nbsp;

• Rodriguez is a three-time AVCA All-American, earning first-team honors in 2021 and 2023, and second-team honors in 2022. She will look to join Kadie Rolfzen (2013-16) and Sarah Pavan (2004-07) as the only four-time All-Americans in program history.&nbsp;

• Rodriguez made her mark instantly as a freshman in 2021, earning AVCA National Freshman of the Year and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Over the last two seasons, Rodriguez has guided the Huskers to the No. 1 defense in the country, earning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year again in 2023 to become the fifth player in Big Ten history to receive the honor twice in a career.&nbsp;

• Opposite hitter Merritt Beason put together a sensational season in 2023 - her first as a Husker after transferring from Florida - earning AVCA first-team All-America honors and AVCA North Region Player of the Year, becoming just the second Husker (Kelly Hunter) to earn that honor.&nbsp;

• Beason averaged a team-leading 3.76 kills per set on .282 hitting with 2.05 digs per set. She was named Big Ten Player of the Week four times and was the AVCA National Player of the Week on Oct. 23 after averaging 4.25 kills per set and 1.75 digs per set in wins against Northwestern and top-ranked Wisconsin.&nbsp;

• Beason was the MVP of the NCAA Lincoln Regional after 19 kills, 11 digs and a career-high eight blocks in a regional final win over Arkansas.&nbsp;

VERSATILE MURRAY HIGHLIGHTS SOPHOMORE CLASS

• Sophomore outside hitter Harper Murray is the team leader in kills with 3.19 per set and adds 2.14 digs per set and 12 aces.&nbsp;

• Along with Bergen Reilly, Andi Jackson and Laney Choboy, Murray made an instant impact at Nebraska in 2023, earning Big Ten Freshman of the Year, AVCA North Region Freshman of the Year, All-Big Ten First Team and AVCA All-America Third Team honors.&nbsp;

• Murray finished her freshman campaign with 3.23 kills per set, the highest kills per set average by a Husker freshman since Kadie Rolfzen (3.46) in 2013. One of the Big Ten’s best six-rotation players, Murray also added 2.07 digs per set with a team-high 36 aces. She was a three-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week.&nbsp;

• Senior outside hitter Lindsay Krause has been NU’s best threat at the service line this season with a team-high 15 aces. Krause is also averaging 2.33 kills per set.

• Krause was having the best year of her Husker career in 2023 before it ended in mid-October with an ankle injury. At the time of her injury, Krause was averaging 2.50 kills per set and was hitting .285 for the season.&nbsp;

• Not only that, Krause was putting up 2.82 kills per set on .366 hitting through six Big Ten matches, which led all Big Ten outside hitters in conference action at the time.&nbsp;

• Krause was named Big Ten Player of the Week last year on Oct. 9 following a season-high 15 kills on .519 hitting at Michigan and nine kills on .381 hitting at Michigan State. &nbsp;

• Sophomore setter Bergen Reilly ranks eighth nationally with 10.98 assists per set this season.&nbsp;

• Reilly was the Big Ten Setter of the Year in 2023, becoming the first freshman to win the award since it originated in 2012. Reilly was also an AVCA second-team All-American and an All-Big Ten first-team selection.&nbsp;

• Reilly led all Big Ten setters with 10.51 assists per set in 2023, and she has received six career Big Ten Setter of the Week honors, including on Sept. 2 and Sept. 16 this season.&nbsp;

• Reilly was named Best Setter at the AVCA First Serve Showcase in Louisville, Ky., as she guided the Huskers to a 3-1 win over No. 9 Kentucky with 39 assists and 11 digs.&nbsp;

• Sophomore middle blocker Andi Jackson has elevated her game to new heights in 2024, as she is averaging 2.66 kills per set with a .475 hitting percentage, which ranks sixth in the nation and first among Big Ten players.&nbsp;

• Jackson showed enormous athleticism and potential the first time she stepped on the floor as a Husker, and she followed through with a strong debut season that included AVCA All-Region, All-Big Ten Second Team, and Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors.&nbsp;

• Jackson averaged 2.01 kills per set and 1.09 blocks per set with a .399 hitting percentage in 2023, which ranked third in the Big Ten and 19th in the nation. Her hitting percentage was the best ever by a Husker freshman and ranked seventh all-time in the rally scoring era.&nbsp;

• Along with Reilly, Jackson helped the U.S. U21 National Team win the gold medal at the NORCECA U21 Continental Championship in Toronto this summer, hitting .654 throughout the tournament with 39 kills and 10 blocks.&nbsp;

• Junior middle blocker Rebekah Allick leads the Huskers with 1.41 blocks per set so far this season. Offensively, she has provided 1.76 kills per set on .368 hitting.&nbsp;

• Allick’s career 1.19 blocks per set ranks No. 5 in school history in the rally scoring era.&nbsp;

• Allick is a two-time AVCA All-Region and All-Big Ten second-team selection. Last season, she averaged 1.76 kills per set with a team-high 1.50 blocks per set, which ranked second among Big Ten players and seven in the nation. Her 1.50 blocks per set was also the No. 2 mark in school history in the rally scoring era.&nbsp;

• Allick was at her best at the end of the 2023 season, registering a career-high 12 blocks in the NCAA regional final win over Arkansas and 10 blocks in the NCAA semifinal sweep of Pittsburgh.&nbsp;

• In the season-opening victory over Kentucky, Allick had 11 kills and hit .667 while tying her career high with 12 blocks. Her performance earned her Best Middle Blocker and Most Valuable Player honors at the AVCA First Serve Showcase. HALL OF FAME COACH COOK IN YEAR 25 AT NU &nbsp; &nbsp;

• Nebraska head coach John Cook is in his 25th season as the Nebraska volleyball head coach in 2024. He has led the Huskers to four national championships, 11 final fours, 13 conference championships and 22 top-10 final rankings since 2000.&nbsp;

• Cook has 862 career wins and is one of the all-time winningest coaches in NCAA history. Since taking over the program in 2000, Cook has led the Huskers to a nation-leading .874 win percentage (701-101).&nbsp;

• On Sept. 10, 2024, the Huskers defeated No. 9 Creighton 3-2 for Cook’s 695th win at Nebraska, which moved him past Terry Pettit for most wins all-time as the Nebraska volleyball head coach.&nbsp;

Huskers face first B1G road test at Illinois

Seniors Juwan Gary and Brice Williams will join Coach Fred Hoiberg at Big Ten Basketball Media Day Presented by TIAA on Thursday.&nbsp; Coach Hoiberg and the Husker players will meet with local, regional and national media in preparation for the 2024-25 season.

The Big Ten Network will have seven hours of coverage on Thursday.&nbsp; B1G Live: Men’s Basketball Coaches Roundtable will be from 9-11 a.m. as Dave Revsine and Rick Pizzo will interview all 18 coaches in six panel discussions. Hoiberg will join USC’s Eric Musselman and Indiana’s Mike Woodson at 10 a.m. (central).

Revsine, Pizzo and analysts Rapheal Davis, Andy Katz, Bruce Weber and Don MacLean will be joined at the BTN set by the coaches and student athletes on B1G Live: Men’s Basketball Media Day Special from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.&nbsp; The Nebraska contingent will be on the broadcast at 1:15 p.m. (central).

Gary is entering his third season as a starter for the Huskers and has played a major role in the Huskers’ success the past two seasons. Last year, Gary played in 28 games, including 20 starts, and averaged 11.6 points per game on 50 percent shooting and 6.1 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-6 forward has made a name for himself as one of the Big Ten’s best defensive players as he helped NU rank in the top 50 nationally in defensive efficiency in 2023-24. Gary topped NU in both blocks and steals and ranked second on the Huskers with five double-doubles in 2023-24.

Williams enters his second season at Nebraska after starting all 34 games a year ago, as Nebraska won 23 games and reached the NCAA Tournament. The 6-foot-7 guard averaged 13.4 points, 5.5 points, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game, ranking second on the team in scoring, steals and blocked shots and third in both rebounds and assists per game. Williams closed the season with a flourish, averaging 23.3 ppg on 50 percent shooting in the Huskers’ three postseason games, as he closed the year with three straight 20-point efforts. Williams has scored over 1,250 points in his college career, which included three seasons at Charlotte.

Alliance to travel to McCook for B-10 Softball Subdistricts

CHADRON, Neb. – After losing a third set in heartbreaking fashion, Chadron State volleyball could have folded. Instead, the Eagles rallied to take the final two sets and win a five-set thriller over South Dakota Mines – 21-25, 25-22, 29-31, 25-16, 15-13. 

The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Eagles (3-10) in what was CSC's first match to go a fifth set this season. It is the second time among Chadron State's three victories that the Eagles rallied to win after dropping the first set. The Eagles did it against a strong South Dakota Mines team that finished fourth in the RMAC last season and has a sweep over defending RMAC Tournament champions Regis on its resume from this year.  

Alejandra Briseno finished with a 15-kill, 17-dig double-double, her second double-double of the season and a season high in digs. Offensively, three other Eagles attackers had hitting percentages of .300 or better – Kally Kirkwood (12 kills, .379), Aiyana Fujiyama (11 kills, .321) and Bella Adams (nine kills, .381). 

Defensively, CSC finished with 16 total blocks, which doubled their previous season high of eight against Missouri Southern, the last match they won prior to Tuesday night. Leading the charge on that front was Fujiyama, who finished with 10 blocks, including a solo block, for a season high and a tie for the highest single-game total in the RMAC this season. 

The two-point margin in the fifth and deciding set was fitting for a match that seemed neck-and-neck throughout the contest. South Dakota Mines won the first set, but its largest lead of the set was five points at 24-19, and CSC saved two set points before the Hardrockers put it away at 25-21. 

Chadron State jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the second set, using three Briseno kills and service aces from Alondra Hernandez and Bella Adams to help build that lead. With a 17-15 advantage, the Eagles got a kill from Kally Kirkwood and three consecutive attack errors to open up a 21-15 cushion. South Dakota Mines saved CSC's first set point to make it 24-22, but a service error gave Chadron State the set to knot things up at one. 

The third set was one for the ages. The Eagles led most of the way, jumping out to a 5-2 lead and eventually using back-to-back kills from Kally Kirkwood and Fujiyama to take a 21-16 lead. The Hardrockers answered, however, ripping off a 6-1 scoring run to tie the score at 22-22. Chadron State got a Rylee Ward kill and Hernandez to put themselves on the brink of going up two sets to one, but the Hardrockers saved back-to-back set points to tie the score at 24-24. 

The fun was just beginning, as the two teams traded the next 10 points to get to 29-29. Overall, in the third set alone, Chadron State saved four set points and the Hardrockers saved three before South Dakota Mines finally won two points in a row to take the set, 31-29. That marked the second straight match with a 31-29 set loss for Chadron State, after the Eagles lost the first set to Fort Lewis by that same score. 

Unlike in the Fort Lewis match, the Eagles recovered. The fourth set was the most straightforward set of the match, with CSC racing out to a 7-1 lead and leading by as many as 10 in the set before closing out the fourth 25-16.

Alondra Hernandez had 21 digs while Rylee Ward had a double-double with 13 digs plus 24 assists, on top of three service aces. Chadron State will hit the court next on the road against Black Hills State on Friday at 6 p.m. The Yellow Jackets (4-8, 0-4 RMAC) are due to play South Dakota Mines on Thursday before they take on the Eagles.
