Theodore (Ted) William Smith passed away unexpectedly at Box Butte General Hospital on May 8, 2026 with his family by his side.

Ted was born October 14, 1939, in Alliance NE to Dollie Marie Smith Pappas and William E Smith. He graduated from Alliance High School. Ted was married to Ginger Jean Smith and to this union they had Brad (Kelly) Smith, Tedi (Richard) Davis and Shawn (Rusty) Heckman.

Ted worked at Dobson Dodge after graduation and started his career on the BNSF in 1960-1986 and 1997-2001. He worked as an Electrician and General Foreman. During his career he was in Lincoln NE, Denver CO, Childress TX and settled in Alliance. He was a member of the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department, played softball, enjoyed a good trip to Prairie Winds and you could find him at Tony’s Junkyard or Al’s shop. In his later years he was a “regular” at the Senior Center where he helped them in any way he could, delivering meals and putting several puzzles together.

Ted is survived by his 3 children, his grandchildren, whom he was very proud of, Kayla, Hunter, Andrew (Charity), Jennifer (Rayce), Macenzie, and Brandon (Violet). Great-Grandchildren Hannah, Lillian, Titus, Axel, Georgia and one that will be here in November. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Nicholas Smith.

Per his wishes cremation has taken place. There will be graveside service on Tuesday, May 19th at 2:00 p.m. at the Alliance Cemetery. Please dress casually as dad was not a person who required a lot of frills. For memorial donations in his memory, we have chosen the Alliance Senior Center-this was like his second home or Peltz Company Spartans-he enjoyed going to the games and watching the boy’s play. Please mail to: Shawn Heckman, 1232 Missouri Ave, Alliance NE 69301.

Thank you to Joe who found Dad and called 911, the EMT’s and Police Officers who responded to the call and was with dad. Dr Dockweiler and the ER nurses who made the long rough night and decision a little easier. We appreciated the care you provided for Dad.

Dad was a great person and a friend to many. You always knew where he stood in life and he wasn’t afraid to let you know! We know he is at peace and can stand up straight and walk without limping, which makes us very happy. We will miss his big hugs and how he ended every text – “Love you guys”. Until we see you again Dad, thank you for everything, we love and miss you!!
