Lilly L. Larsen was born February 4, 1928 at her grandparent’s home at the foot of the Rawhide Buttes south of Lusk, Wyoming. She was the oldest child of Ernest Larsen and Anna Person Larsen. She passed away on November 7, 2024 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, NE at the age of 96.

Lilly graduated from Sioux County Highschool in 1945 and went right to work at the Sioux National Bank. She retired from the bank in 1984 after 38 years of employment, and then became a part-time secretary for the Sioux County Superintendent of Schools.

Her survivors include her sister, Linda (Ron) Gunia of Alliance, NE, step-nieces Angie (Jim) Albarella, Pam (Jim) Cyza, Laura Gunia, Sande (Sean) McCue, and step-nephews Ron (Shannon) Gunia and Scott (Sarah) Gunia. Her brother, Leonard, and her parents preceded her in death. Lilly’s family would like to thank Highland Park Care Center for many years of loving care and for creating a place that truly became her home.

Services will be held at Harrison United Methodist Church on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024 at 11:00am and burial will be at Harrison Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Harrison United Methodist Church.

Kim L. Wills, 65, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport, NE.

She was born on June 13, 1959 in Alliance to Keith Calvin and Hazel June (Herman) Tolstedt.&nbsp; She attended school through the 8th grade at District #40, a small country school north of Alliance.&nbsp; She was an avid 4-H member of Hilltop View, where she took sewing and cooking classes.&nbsp; At a young age she knew the definition of hard work, having grown up on a family farm with 6 brothers and sisters and having to milk cows.&nbsp; After graduating from Alliance High School, she obtained her cosmetology license at a Beauty School in Gering and then worked a short stint at Kurl n Swirl while Mike worked at Alliance Consumers Coop.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kim spent most of her high school years following Mike to high school rodeos. On June 18, 1977, at the age of 17, she married her high school sweetheart, Mike Wills.&nbsp; Kim became a housewife when Mike and Kim were invited to join Kim’s parents on the family farm, Box L Inc.&nbsp; At the age of 18, she was expecting twin girls, Alice and April, due during the Blizzard of 1979.&nbsp; Kim’s dad had her make numerous trips to town for fear she would go into labor and not be able to get to town.&nbsp; Four years later, their son Heath was born.&nbsp; During the next years, she was a farmer’s wife and mother to her 3 children making sure they experienced a true country life and learning the value of hard work.

Becoming a grandma was another great moment in her life.&nbsp; She spent her time following them through sports, 4-H and FFA, and steer and heifer shows.&nbsp; In her eyes there wasn’t anything her grandkids couldn’t do and excel at because she knew it was something that they all loved doing.&nbsp; Together, her and Mike have taught those same values of hard work and passion to their grandchildren.

The most beautiful and precious parts of Kim’s life were hanging out with her children and grandchildren.&nbsp; Her tenderness will be seen in the memories of her grandkids and her compassion for others will be embraced by those she helped and the friends who witnessed.

Her survivors are her husband, Mike, her daughters, Alice (Bobby) Smith and April (Patrick) Crowley and her son, Heath (Courtney) Wills all of Alliance and her grandchildren, Tate and Dak Smith, Bailey Vogel, Madison Smith, Brooklyn Crowley, and Rozlyn, Railey, Laney, and Lexey Wills.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brothers and sister, Steven Tolstedt of Alliance, Susan (Tim) Maxcy of Gering, Michael (Barbara) Tolstedt of Alliance, Mark (Jill) Tolstedt of Sioux City, IA and Lance (Tracy) Tolstedt of Gilbert, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Keith and June Tolstedt, her sister, Gina Tolstedt, her father and mother-in-law, Harold “Bud” and Betty Wills, brothers-in-law, Ross Wills and Tim Wills and her sister-in-law, Janet Toedtli and her dearest friend, Brenda Jinks.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 18, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Pastor Richard Mueller and Pastor Shaun Daugherty officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 17 from 1-5 p.m. with family being present from 3-5 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given in care of Mike Wills to be donated to the Box Butte County 4-H Program.

Dianne L. Thomas, 77, of Hemingford passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

She was born on July 18, 1947 in Kansas City, Kansas to Carl and Wilma (Howerton) Gordon.

On September 21, 1968 she was united in marriage to Edward Ivan Thomas in Nowata, Oklahoma.

Dianne and Ed along with their family came to Box Butte County in 1980.&nbsp; She worked at Woolrich before becoming employed at Good Samaritan Health Care Center. She worked there for 18 years specializing in restorative care.&nbsp; Diane enjoyed craft work especially craft painting which she taught classes for Alliance Community Education for many years.

Her survivors include her husband, Ed, her son, Scott Anthony Abbott of Hemingford and her daughter, Tracey Lynn Thomas of Rapid City, SD and her brother, Chris Gordon of Hemingford.&nbsp; In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Gordon and her sister, Gale Tizka.

Memorial services will be held at the Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Greg Reed officiating.

Delores Agnes Gasseling was born March 26,1940 to Marcus and Agnes (Hovorka) Gasseling of Hemingford, Nebraska. She was joined by her younger brother, Adrian, on November 10, 1941. Dee started country school at District #20 and was the first graduate of the new School District #49. She graduated from the State High School in Curtis, NE, and later earned the title Aksarben Queen before moving to the Sandhills to teach in the Brownlee Community. The Sandhills is where she found her cowboy and married W. Harold Cotant on August 21, 1961. The couple married at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Hemingford, NE and returned to the Sandhills where they started married life, teaching, ranching and family. Their oldest son Steve and daughter Sarah arrived in the Sandhills before moving to the ranch at Hemingford.

Dee and Harold relocated to the homestead in Dawes County where they continued ranching and farming also growing their family by another son, Marc. Dee was a hardworking ranch wife in the hay field, working cattle, spending lots of time with her horses, gardening, milking cows, bottle-feeding calves and Blue Heeler puppies. There was a lot of joy in time shared with her friends, supporting her children’s 4-H Activities and high school projects.

Schooling continued to be important to her, so she returned to college at Chadron State and graduated in May of 1989 with her Bachelors of Science in Social Work. That opened an opportunity to work at the Pine Ridge Job Corp Facility South of Chadron and the at the Hemingford Care Facility as a social worker. When her husband Harold passed away in July of 1990 she remained on the ranch until meeting Wayne Farrar during a visit to Mullen.

They were married August 14, 1993, at the United Methodist Church in Curtis, NE where they made their home. Their next decision, after becoming empty nesters, was to return to the ranch near Hemingford. After relocating and finding new friends near Chadron they settled into a church&nbsp;family at the Berean Church. Dee was very active in the life of the church participating in small group studies, helping in the kitchen and enjoyed leading the card ministry. When Dee returned to the ranch her free time was spent with family. Her deep love for her grandchildren was shown in telling stories, rocking babies, baking goodies and seemed no end to the love for each grandchild near and far.

May of 2014, she lost Wayne but stayed on the ranch. More time was spent cherishing her grandchildren, tending her flower beds and playing with her favorite horse Job.

She was preceded in death by her parents Marcus and Agnes, father and mother-in-law, Harvey and Elva Cotant, her husband’s Harold Cotant and Wayne Farrar; brother Adrian Gasseling; brothers-in-law: Garry Cotant and Willis Cotant, and Dale Barr; sister-in-law: Shirley (Cotant) Shears; nephew Kenley and niece Tina.

Dee is survived by: son Steve (Laurie) of Henry, NE, daughter Sarah (Corey) Jenkins of Sidney, NE and son Marc (Kyla) of Hemingford, NE. Grandchildren: Jessica, Allison, Shirley, Tyrell, Landrie, Wyatt, Kinlee, Bryley, Lane and Jaylea; sisters-in-law: Marion Gasseling, Vonnie Barr, Mary Jane (Don) Younkin, Sharyl Cotant and Linda Cotant, along with brothers-in-law: Douglas Cotant, Dennis ‘Mick’ (Mica) Cotant and Vernon Shears. She is also survived by her stepchildren Roger (Jolene) Farrar, Harold Farrar, Sue (Ken) Knolles, Michelle Wilson and their families. Her smile will also be missed by cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends and neighbors close to her.

More time was spent cherishing her grandchildren, tending her flower beds and playing with her favorite horse Job.She was preceded in death by her parents Marcus and Agnes, father and mother-in-law, Harvey and Elva Cotant, her husband’s Harold Cotant and Wayne Farrar; brother Adrian Gasseling; brothers-in-law: Garry Cotant and Willis Cotant, and Dale Barr; sister-in-law: Shirley (Cotant) Shears; nephew Kenley and niece Tina.Dee is survived by: son Steve (Laurie) of Henry, NE, daughter Sarah (Corey) Jenkins of Sidney, NE and son Marc (Kyla) of Hemingford, NE. Grandchildren: Jessica, Allison, Shirley, Tyrell, Landrie, Wyatt, Kinlee, Bryley, Lane and Jaylea; sisters-in-law: Marion Gasseling, Vonnie Barr, Mary Jane (Don) Younkin, Sharyl Cotant and Linda Cotant, along with brothers-in-law: Douglas Cotant, Dennis ‘Mick’ (Mica) Cotant and Vernon Shears. She is also survived by her stepchildren Roger (Jolene) Farrar, Harold Farrar, Sue (Ken) Knolles, Michelle Wilson and their families. Her smile will also be missed by cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends and neighbors close to her.

Delores 'Dee' A. Cotant Farrar (1940 - 2024)

DeWayne Hollibaugh passed away on Wednesday November 6, 2024, in Crawford, NE.&nbsp;

DeWayne was born on October 5, 1928, to Dawes &amp;Vera (Dunlap) Hollibaugh on the family ranch in Dawes County near Marsland, NE.&nbsp; He grew up on the ranch with his mother and younger brother Kenny in a log cabin.&nbsp; He would often note it was quite cold in the winter, and they frequently woke up to ice on the water bucket.&nbsp; DeWayne’s father passed away in a tragic plane crash when he was 3 years of age, and his grandfather CG played a large and pivotal role in his childhood. Growing up in the middle of the Great Depression without a father shaped DeWayne’s formative years and resulted in a lifetime of frugality and hard work.&nbsp; These early experiences would fuel his success and drive throughout his life.&nbsp;

DeWayne attended Marsland high school and was quite proud of the fact he graduated as the Salutatorian in 1946.&nbsp; DeWayne joined the United States Airforce in 1952.&nbsp; He trained in Texas in hydraulic system repair on airplanes. His dream was to be sent overseas, but ultimately, he was stationed at Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, SD.&nbsp; Here he would meet the love of his life, Mary Ann Tyrrell and they were married June 13th, 1954.&nbsp; While in the USAF, he also worked a shift making pallets to earn extra money which he sent home to the family as the ranch had fallen on difficult times.&nbsp; He has always had an entrepreneurial spirit and would tell stories of how he cut the hair of his fellow enlisted to earn extra money.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After his time in the Air Force DeWayne and Mary Ann moved back to the ranch. &nbsp;When his grandfather died in 1955, DeWayne and his brother took over the family ranch.&nbsp; In 1961 he bought out his brother’s half of the ranch.&nbsp; DeWayne would spend the next 50 years running Hollibaugh Ranch. Agriculture was advancing at a rapid pace during the 1960’s and DeWayne took advantage of opportunities to learn modern ranch management and was often an early adopter of new management strategies.&nbsp; Besides management of the land resources, he was an avid learner and would read trade journals and take courses learning other skills necessary to run a successful ranch operation such as welding.&nbsp; During this time, he and Mary Ann became friends with the instructor of these courses and thus began a lifelong friendship with George McMillan.&nbsp; Countless hours were spent improving the ranch to better manage livestock and their grazing.&nbsp; This consisted of cross fencing pastures and adding water wells which created another lifelong friendship with Bob Haag who was a water well driller in Chadron.&nbsp; DeWayne was also involved with many organizations in the community.&nbsp; He served on the Dawes County Fair board, Farmers Coop Board, School Board and Nebraska Cattleman’s board-Area President.&nbsp;

Together DeWayne and Mary Ann had 5 children, Gregory, Connie, Patti, Mike, and Lori who were instrumental in much of the daily work that took place on the ranch.&nbsp; Much time was also spent with aunts and uncles from DeWayne’s mother’s side.&nbsp; Either entertaining them for Sunday dinner or going to one of their homes for Sunday dinner.

After the kids were raised DeWayne and Mary Ann enjoyed their weekend trips to Deadwood and were also able to travel to various places around the world.&nbsp; Mary Ann who was beloved by all would pass away of cancer in the spring of 2000.

DeWayne would meet Joan Warner and they married November of 2001.&nbsp; He and Joan were able to take several trips together.&nbsp; One was a trip full of adventure in which they drove an RV to Alaska.&nbsp; Joan was able to get him to have an appreciation for baseball and they would enjoy cheering on the Rockies.&nbsp;

In the later years of his life, as his daughter Patti began to take over the ranch DeWayne was able to slow down and appreciate some of the finer details of life.&nbsp; Moving into a house in Chadron with Joan, he enjoyed his morning trips to McDonalds for a fresh cup of coffee, or a trip to Deadwood to enjoy the town.&nbsp; He spent many hours enjoying time with his many grandkids and great grandkids, attending many graduations, weddings, and other family events.&nbsp; He continued to travel, journeying to Europe, and even took the whole family on two cruises to Mexico. DeWayne greatly enjoyed the outdoors and continued to stay active taking many drives out to the ranch to see the country and enjoy the wildlife.&nbsp; He loved to tell the story of watching several bobcat kittens play on his mailbox one day to the grandkids.

DeWayne will be missed greatly by his generations of remaining family.&nbsp; Many wonderful memories have been made and will be shared for years to come.

DeWayne was preceded in Death by his grandparents and parents, wives Mary Ann and Joan, as well a granddaughter and great grandson.

He is survived by his children Gregory (Becky) of Rapid City, SD, Connie (Mark) Kolling of Chadron, NE, Patti of Crawford, NE, Mike (Tammy) of Chadron, NE, and Lori (Keith) Oetken of Crawford, NE.&nbsp; He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.&nbsp; at the First Congregational Church in Chadron with Reverend Russ Seger officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery with military honors.&nbsp; The family invites you to share memories and a luncheon at Country Kitchen after the services.

Justin K. Picket Pin (Wakan Gle Luta Hoksila), 44, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska.

He was born March 3, 1980 in Alliance, Nebraska to David and Shelley (Meeks) Picket Pin, Jr.

Justin was into the traditional Lakota way of life. He enjoyed spending time with his children, and granddaughter. He was a good father and would do whatever he could for them. He liked to go to fishing and watch horror movies. As a kid, Justin participated in competitive boxing.

Justin is survived by his parents, David and Shelley Picket Pin, Jr.; his daughter, Riley (Martin Mabin) Picket Pin; his son, Dante Picket Pin; and his granddaughter, June Mabin. He is also survived by his brothers, David (Nancy) Picket Pin III, Jordan (Chastity) Picket Pin, Brian Picket Pin, Greg (Dana) Picket Pin, Anthony (Beth) Picket Pin, Brandon (Evelyn) Picket Pin, and Joseph (Imelda) Picket Pin; his half-brother, Curtis Meeks; his sisters, Chris Anne Picket Pin, Amanda (Scott) Schuster, Kayla (Simon) Perez, and Ashley (Mike) Valdovinos; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hilda White Wash Picket Pin, David Picket Pin, Sr., Henry Meeks, Sr., Edith Hand Meek, and many aunts and uncles.

There will be a one day wake service held at the First Baptist Church, 931 Yellowstone Avenue, on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.&nbsp; Funeral services will be officiated by Medicine Man Mike Cross on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the church.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.

Justin K. Picket Pin (Wakan Gle Luta Hoksila) (1980 - 2024)

Sister Francesa Delgado was born in Kansas City, Kansas December 1, 1935.&nbsp; She died Friday, November 1, 2024 at Highland Park Care Center, Alliance, Nebraska.

Sr. Francesca's parents were Francisco Delgado and Carmen Rodriguez Delgado. She was given the name Natalie when baptized but was known as Nellie by family, friends and many who knew her.

She entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity as Candidate January 12, 1957, from Veteran, Wyoming and made final vows August 15, 1960. It was at this time she was given the name Sister Francesca.

She earned a Diploma from Famous Artist's School in Westpoint, Connecticut in 1970. Sister Francesca received her License in Cosmetology in 1973 in Alliance, Nebraska. Sr. Francesca was kept busy by both teaching Art at St Agnes Academy and working as a Beautician in Alliance, Nebraska.

In Denver, Colorado, Sister Francesca taught art at Marycrest High School and at Guardian Angels Grade School. Sr. Francesca had a beauty parlor on the third floor at Marycrest Convent.

Besides her services to the Sisters of St Francis she looked after her parents. Sister Francesca moved to Moses Lake, Washington to care for her elderly parents. During this time, she would reach out to the people in need in the community of Moses Lake.

In October 2016, Sr. Francesca moved to Alliance, Nebraska to live with the Sisters at Marian Residence. After Marian Residence closed in May 2022, she moved to Highland Park Care Center in Alliance.

She had a gentle and generous spirit, and a quick sense of humor. In her own quiet way Sister Francesca had been faithful in following in the footsteps of Christ and St. Francis.

Sister Francesca is survived by her brother, Frank (Sherry); her sisters, Mary Hesting (Bob), Lola Monroe (Richard), Lydia Mullineaux and Sally Petree (Jack); her sisters-in-law, Linda, Selmaann and Kathleen and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Joe, Pete, Simon and Leonard; her sister, Frances Shipe; sister-in-law Elvita; and brothers-in-law Mike Shipe and Rodney Mullineaux.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Matt Koperski officiating.&nbsp; A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral. Sister Francesca will be laid to rest with her family at Royal Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Royal City, Washington.

James F. Kriz, 84, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Regional West Medical Center.

He was born March 13, 1940 in Cleveland, OH to James F. and Pauline (Zufan) Kriz.&nbsp; On June 20, 1964 he was united in marriage to Patricia J. Esper at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vermillion, OH.

Jim began teaching in Ohio until moving to Kyle, SD in 1977.&nbsp; After teaching there for 2 years the family moved to Edgemont, SD.&nbsp; While there he hired on the Burlington Northern Railroad.&nbsp; In 1981 the family moved to Guernsey, WY before transferring to Alliance in 1983.&nbsp; He retired from the railroad in 2003.

Jim was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, his children, Mike of Lincoln, Peggy (John) Kirkhum of Mt. Bethel, PA and Kevin of Alliance, his grandchildren, Brittany Davis, Mark Kriz, Jr., Bradley Kriz and Amanda (Jake) Canfield and 5 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He is also survived by his brother, Jerry (Barb) Kriz of Ponce Inlet, FL and his sister, Karen (John) Metzger of Independence, OH.&nbsp; Jim was preceded in death by his son, Mark, his parents and his father-in-law and mother-in-law.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery at a later date.&nbsp; A wake service will be Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Christina May Nowak went home joyfully, but sad to be briefly separated from her family.&nbsp; She changed her address to Heaven on Friday October 4th 2024.

Nowak Dunning in Akron, Ohio on August 12, 1956, Christina was their fourth daughter.&nbsp; The family moved to Sterling, Colorado in 1960 where summers were spent enjoying cool evenings with family and neighbors, riding horses, roller skating and all kinds of outdoor activities. Christina attended St. Anthony’s, Sterling Junior and Senior High Schools.&nbsp;

Chris moved to Alliance in 1977 and gave birth to her daughter Chastity in 1978.&nbsp; Chris worked at Sweetbriars Dress Shop, Iron Horse Diner and managed the Ore House Black Hills Jewelry Store. In 1989 Chris was hired at the Alliance Times-Herald as the Carrier Supervisor and receptionist. She spent the next 26 years there. After the Times-Herald went to a twice weekly paper, sadly the paper carriers were no longer needed and her job ended. Christina came to know Jesus as her LORD and Savior in 1991. She was a member of the Alliance Evangelical Free Church where she helped with AWANA for many years.

After retirement Christina was able to help with The My Golden Valentine Project for 5 years collecting valentines from local schools, youth groups and individuals around Alliance. With grandkids helping sort and later Sally Yeager who provided many handy tips, she collected more than enough valentines to distribute to Nursing and Assisted living centers and Meals on Wheels.

Chris relished Sunday afternoons with her grandkids, riding bikes, going to the library, making soap, collecting strawberries, making dinner, and playing games, many invented by Tabetha and Jordan Jr.

Christina is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Chastity and Jordan Picket Pin Sr., her granddaughter Tabetha Picket Pin, (Alex DuBray Jr.)&nbsp; her grandson Jordan Picket Pin Jr. (Tatum Swanson) and great-grandchildren, Carter, Alex, Deklyn and Blakely. She is also survived by her sisters, Frances Wyrsch and Leslie McCrea, nephews, Joshua Wyrsch, Benjamin Wyrsch, and families.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jennifer Nowak and&nbsp; brother-in-law James Wyrsch.

Christina May Nowak (1956 - 2024)

Dawn Michelle Provance, 51, of Chadron, Nebraska, left this world in the early hours of October 22, 2024, after bravely battling cancer throughout her life. Dawn's strength, resilience, and deep love for her family and community left an indelible mark on those who knew her. Although our hearts are heavy, we find solace in knowing she is now at peace.

Dawn was born on September 21, 1973, in Wichita Falls, Texas, the eldest of three daughters to Robert and Kim Winberg. At just 13 years old, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, a challenge she faced and overcame, becoming a survivor in 1989. Dawn graduated from Westside High School in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1992, and went on to complete her radiology training at MeritCare School of Radiology in Fargo, North Dakota, in 1997. Adventurous at heart, Dawn became a traveling radiologic technologist, checking off destinations on her bucket list and embracing new places with open arms.

In 2000, Dawn met her soulmate, Michael Provance, and they quickly recognized they wanted a lifetime together. They married in Chadron, Nebraska, on October 26, 2001, and welcomed their son, Xander, on June 26, 2004. That same year, Dawn conquered breast cancer, embodying her incredible resilience. With her health restored, she embraced her roles as a devoted mother and wife. Dawn took immense joy in watching Xander excel in his many sports, sharing his accomplishments with pride, especially when he chose to run track for University of South Dakota—forever his biggest fan.

Dawn’s warm smile and compassionate spirit endeared her to everyone she met. She started a book club, cherished coffee dates and wine nights with friends, and never missed a chance for a heartfelt late-night call with family. Planning trips, both for herself and for others, was a passion; if you had the fortune of joining her on one, you were in for an unforgettable experience. Her kindness, laughter, and zest for life touched the lives of many, leaving a legacy of friendship and love.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Michael Provance; her beloved son, Xander Provance; her mother, Kim Winberg; her grandmothers, Eileen Etterman and Mary Winberg; and her sisters, Jenell (Jason) Anderson and Betsy Westphal. She also leaves behind mother-in-law Thelma Provance; sisters-in-law Valorie (Robert) Cowan and Nanette (Scott) Swanson; cherished nieces and nephews: Leah (Tucker) Lane, Sydney Westphal, Jacob Ewing, Jace Westphal, Grace Anderson, Chad (Amy) Cowan, Jeremy Cowan and Stephanie (Aaron) Roach and great nieces and nephews Mason, Brianna, Adrian, Blake, Boston and Aspyn.

Jerry Lynn Worth, 74 passed away Friday, August 9th, 2024 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Jerry was born December 31, 1949 in Dalton, Nebraska. He was the oldest child born to Floyd A. and Lois Darlene (Powell) Worth.

Jerry attended Elementary School in Dalton, Nebraska. The family moved to Alliance, Nebraska where he graduated high school in 1968.

In 1969, Jerry joined the Navy. After his service, he received a medical discharge. He then went on to attend colleges in a few different places.

Jerry worked in the insurance industry which took him to many states where he met new friends that became family to him.

He was a member of the Alliance Eagles #136 and the American Legion Post #7.

Jerry is survived by his brother, Jeffrey Worth of Alliance, Nebraska; His Uncle Johnny (Bev) Powell of Montrose, CO; Aunt, Jurene Green of Alliance NE; Nieces: Tera (Trent) Vogel, Alicia (Travis) Leisy, and Amber (Luke) Walkinshaw all of Alliance, NE. A nephew, Robert Archuleta of Billings, MT along with many great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd A. Worth and Lois Darlene (Powell) Worth; sister, Jennifer Crawford, brother-in-law, Arthur Crawford and his grandparents.

Services will be Friday, November 1, 2024 at 2:00pm at he Veteran's Cemetery with Color Guard.

He was born on February 25, 1944 in Lynch, Nebraska to Charles and Gladys (Hartman) Carr.

While living in Alliance Jim worked for the City of Alliance, Mandelbergs Auto Parts Store, parts manager for Dobson Dodge and a automotive mechanic for Alliance Motors. He married Peggy S. Kelly on May 2, 1965 at the United Methodist Church in Page, Nebraska. The family moved to Alliance in 1979 coming from O’Neill, Nebraska.

He is survived by his children, Cathy and Steve Rabender of Gering and Mike and Kim Carr of Alliance; his sister, Beth (Paul) Classen of Lake Jackson, TX, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Peggy, his brothers, Russell, Bob and John his sister, Eva and a grandson.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jeanette Anne Green, aged 75, on Tuesday, October 15th, 2024.&nbsp; Jeanette was a caring mother, partner and friend, whose kindness and love touched the lives of all who knew her.

Jeanette was born in Ontario, Canada and over the years, she built a life centered around family.&nbsp; As a mother to Patrice Lampkin and Chris Green, she provided support, guidance, and love.&nbsp; She is preceded in death by husband, Paul Green and her brother, Richard (Dick) Bornais.

Jeanette was the devoted partner of Arnold Keller, sharing a deep bond in their 23 years together. The two of them created a partnership founded on care, laughter, and shared memories that will remain in their hearts forever.

Jeanette is survived by her partner Arnold, daughter Patrice, son Chris, granddaughter Anne, and many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.

A celebration of Jeanette's life will be held on Tuesday, October 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.&nbsp; Father Matt Koperski will officiate and interment will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, from 1-6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Jeanette will be greatly missed, but her spirit will remain with us, forever reminding us to live with love and compassion.

Jerry Wayne Woods, 82 of Alliance, Nebraska passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 6, 2024.

Jerry was born on May 1, 1942 in Alliance, NE to Elmer and Inez (Dempsey) Woods, and was the youngest of 9 children (Elmer, Richard, Betty, infant brother, Margaret, Leota, Walter and Jack).

He attended school in Alliance and then after doing the School of Hard Knocks, he got his GED.

In 1966, he married Terri Freeman and they had a daughter, Roxanne in 1967. They divorced 2 months after her birth.

In 1970, Jerry married Sharon Hooper. Robert Hicks joined the family in 1972 and then William Patrick was born in 1973.

Jerry worked various jobs, owning his own lawn service and then went to work for Cover Jones where he learned body repair. He and Bert Bullock opened West Fourth Street Body Shop then Jerry bought the business from Bert.

In 1979, he started working for Electric Hose &amp; Rubber, through Dayco &amp; then Parker.

Jerry and Sharon were foster parents for several years and were named Foster Parents of the Year for Box Butte County in 1992.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Willy, all of his siblings, many nieces and nephews as well as in-laws.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Sharon of the home; Roxanne Smith, Robert Hicks, grandsons, Eric Woods, Steven Kauffman, David Hicks, Dustin Hicks and granddaughters, Megan McCann, Shellie Kauffman, Katie Camp, Mackinley Woods and Danielle Cole.

He also leaves behind brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Tara Hooper, sister-in-law, Theresa Woods, various nieces and nephews and great grandsons and granddaughters as well as other extended family.

Tony was a loving husband to Joni (Taylor), whom he married on December 30, 1972. Throughout their almost 52 years, they embodied the essence of partnership and devotion. He was a proud father to Heath and his partner Julie, Marne, Cuinn and his partner Amy and a devoted grandfather to Kaden and Drew. He cherished every moment with his family.

Born to Bert and Eve, Tony was the second of six children: Jim (Ce), Joan (Joe), Nita (Ron), Mike (Yvonne), and Sheila. He was a remarkable brother; and was loved dearly by his in-laws, including Joni’s brother Cork (Pat) and sister Joy (Jerry). He held a special place in the hearts of his 16 nieces and nephews, as well as his many great-nieces and great-nephews, who will carry his spirit forward. He was guided home by Eve, Bert, Ron, and Jim.

Tony was a devout Catholic, finding strength and inspiration in his faith. His commitment to his beliefs guided him in every aspect of his life.

Tony graduated from Scottsbluff High School. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Nebraska and a Master’s degree in Ruminant Nutrition Science from the University of Wyoming. With diverse careers as a farmer, railroader, banker, and 23 years as an Extension Agent for the University of Nebraska, Tony touched countless lives, always sharing his knowledge, passion and a laugh.

Tony generously dedicated his time and talents to numerous organizations, including 4-H, Knights of Columbus, Faculty Senate, FFA, Alliance Chamber of Commerce, Elks Club, and Kiwanis Club. His leadership shone as he served on the Board of Directors at the Nebraska Boys Ranch and as President of the Nebraska Agricultural Agents Association, alongside his membership in the National Association of County Agricultural Agents.

A sports enthusiast, whether watching or playing, he brought joy and “Merrigan lessons” to every game. Often quoted on the golf course, he inspired those around him to embrace the camaraderie of the game.

We are grateful to Tony for sharing his great big heart, infectious laughter, sage advice and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. God Bless. Sláinte.

Throughout their almost 52 years, they embodied the essence of partnership and devotion. He was a proud father to Heath and his partner Julie, Marne, Cuinn and his partner Amy and a devoted grandfather to Kaden and Drew. He cherished every moment with his family.Born to Bert and Eve, Tony was the second of six children: Jim (Ce), Joan (Joe), Nita (Ron), Mike (Yvonne), and Sheila. He held a special place in the hearts of his 16 nieces and nephews, as well as his many great-nieces and great-nephews, who will carry his spirit forward. Anthony Paul Merrigan (1950 - 2024)

Thomas Timothy McDonald, 94 of Alliance, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024 peacefully at the Hemingford Community Care Center.

Tom was born in Alliance on February 8, 1930 to Timothy and Esther (Nation) McDonald.&nbsp; He was the 3rd of 10 children.&nbsp; He attended rural schools and graduated from Alliance High School.

After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 5, 1948.&nbsp; During his military service he acquired the rank of Gunners Mate, 2nd Class E-5.&nbsp; He was awarded medals for Korean Service, United Nations, Good Conduct and Navy Occupation.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged on October 29, 1942.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy Tom met Betty Koozer and they were married on February 12, 1953.&nbsp; The two were lifelong residents of Alliance where they raised their 5 boys. When he was younger Tom and his brother, George worked for the Everett Eldred Ranch.&nbsp; After his Navy service he worked for the City of Alliance in the power plant and farmed north of Alliance while also pursuing his passion for raising race horses.&nbsp; He was a man of many talents and he was also a Golden Glove Boxer back in the day.

He is survived by his children, Jim (Helen) McDonald, Bill (Becky) McDonald, Ed (Sue) McDonald, Don (Pam) McDonald and Bob (Kathy) McDonald.&nbsp; He is also survived by his grandchildren, Andrea McDonald, Alicia (Jayson) Keller, Alaina (Brandon) Schaneman, Logan McDonald (KayLynn Cate), Barry McDonald, Cassie McDonald, Chris McDonald (Shaina Stricker), Jacob (Brittany) McDonald,&nbsp; Miranda (Ethan) Allen, T.J. Janell Ann Grant, born on November 2, 1956, in Columbus, Nebraska, passed away on September 27, 2024, at Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, surrounded by her family. A devoted Nurse Practitioner, Janell dedicated almost 50 years to providing exceptional care to the communities she served, earning the title of Medical Provider of Choice.

Janell was a nurturing soul who always put others before herself. She was known for her kindness, often willing to give the clothes off her back to help anyone in need. When she wasn’t busy helping others through her career, she made sure to allow time to follow her children and grandchildren to their various events and sporting activities. Her favorite hobbies included reading, crocheting, and camping, activities she often shared with her loved ones.

Janell is survived by her beloved husband, Lonnie Grant, and her children: Travis (Jessica), Cory, Sally (Dusty), Jarid, Leisa, and Andrea. She was also a proud grandmother to Isaiah, Jacob, Catherine, Brianna, Hadley, Zuri, Braxton, Rilla, and Madeline. Janell is preceded in death with her parents, Ardett and Delilah, her brother Ray and her granddaughter Danika.

Janell's legacy of compassion and dedication will live on through the countless lives she touched throughout her remarkable career and her loving family. She will be deeply missed.

Memorial services will be Friday, October 11, 2024 at 10:00am at St. John’s United Lutheran Church with Pastor Megan Morrow officiating.&nbsp; Interment will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Wanda Kay Beiber passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Highland Park Care Center. She was 81. She was born March 27, 1943 in Huron, South Dakota to Howard and Hazel (Sleater) Walston. On September 3, 1961, she was united in marriage to John R. Beiber, and blessed to have been married 48 years upon John’s passing in 2009.

She is survived by her children, Joni (Craig) Woods of Alliance, Kim Girard (Gene Psota) of Alliance, Chris (Brad) Peters of Custer, SD and Brad Beiber of Lincoln. She is also survived by her grandchildren, John (Stacy) Girard, Kaitlyn (Nate) Stabnow, Brad (Ashleigh) Peters, Brandon (Rachel) Girard, Chad (Alesha) Woods, Brooke (Tony) Brollini and Shawn Woods and her 17 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Myrna Dunn.

Wanda was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and was an active member in her community. When she wasn’t present in her kids, grandkids, and great grand kid’s activities, she could be found volunteering at the Collection Basket, BBGH gift shop, and other organizations. She enjoyed weekly book club, bible study, her coffee group and monthly bridge club. She loved puzzles, and if you ask her family, she was quite the card shark.

&nbsp;In accordance with her wishes a graveside service will be held at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery Monday, October 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Father Matt Koperski will officiate. Following the service, there will be a luncheon at the West Side Event Center. Memorials may be given to Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1104 Cheyenne Avenue, Alliance or Highland Park Care Center, 1633 Sweetwater Avenue, Alliance.

Wanda Kay Beiber (1943 - 2024)

Vanessa Marie Sanchez was born to Manuel and Tina Sanchez on November 28, 1979 in Alliance, Nebraska. 

Vanessa passed away unexpectedly at her home on September 26, 2024 at the age of 44. Vanessa competed and won various titles in beauty pageants as a teenager. Vanessa married Urbano “Vinny” Moreno on May 24, 1996, in Hot Springs, SD. Together, they had three children; Avian (Selena) Moreno, Mikayla (Ulices) Guzman and Bianca Moreno.

 Vanessa was always ready to help anyone and always left her home open to anyone at any time with no questions asked. Vanessa’s caring heart lives on through her son’s dedication to helping others as Avian is currently studying to obtain a degree in the medical field. Vanessa’s beauty and talent would extend to her daughters who would also compete in beauty pageants. Her daughter, Mikayla, obtained a degree in cosmetology, which was what Vanessa always wanted to pursue. Bianca is a beautiful dancer and even auditioned for the show, “Dance Moms” in Los Angeles, CA. Vanessa was very proud to be a “Dance Mom”. While Vanessa became a mother at a young age, she was very smart and hardworking and was able to obtain a business degree from Western Nebraska Community College, even while married, working, and expanding her family. With Vanessa’s business background and Vinny’s construction experience, the young couple was able to establish “Moreno Construction” over 20 years ago. Vanessa went on to help with the business even after the couple’s divorce until she could no longer work due to battling Multiple Sclerosis for over the past ten years. Vanessa’s hobbies included playing cards, playing pool, gambling, doing puzzles, baking, sewing star quilts, Native American beading and especially playing practical jokes and teasing those close to her. If she didn’t tease you, she didn’t like you.

Vanessa loved to travel, which started with her first trip to Disneyland as an infant to visit her Godparents (Arthur and Priscilla Sanchez). As a Godparent, it was very important for Vanessa to share her love for Disney with her Godchildren as she gifted many of them with trips to Disneyland to accompany her to meet Mickey and friends. Vanessa always took a vacation with her children once a year and it usually included a trip to Disneyland. One of Vanessa’s favorite places to spend time was with her Godparents in California. Vanessa was in the process of planning to move to California after her birthday and Thanksgiving of this year. 

Vanessa always lit up the room when she walked in and always had everyone laughing. Vanessa was the strong one in the family and always pulled things together during times of need. Vanessa may have been the smallest of the sisters, but she was also the toughest. 

Shortly after Vanessa was diagnosed with MS, a “sister trip” was planned to one of Vanessa’s “bucket list” destinations, New Orleans. To commemorate the occasion; Vanessa, her sisters, her adult niece (Tatiana Soriano) and son got matching magnolia tattoos. Vanessa’s Godsister (Rita Guerra) and Rita’s daughter (Sarah De Alba) flew to New Orleans from California to join in and show their support for Vanessa.

 While Vanessa’s diagnosis left the family reeling from the realization that she may not live a long life, no one was ready to lose her so soon. Vanessa left a mark on many people’s lives and left many heartbroken when she left. However, the family takes comfort knowing that she is in a better place surrounded by loved ones that are no longer with us, and more importantly, that she is no longer in pain.

Vanessa leaves behind many loved ones including her parents, Godparents, siblings, children, ex-husband and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, Godchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Vanessa’s siblings include Lori War Bonnet, Kim (Mario) Soriano, Erica Sanchez and Tony Sanchez. Vanessa is also survived by one grandson, Cashton Dickenson and her beloved puppy, Gia. Vanessa’s Godchildren include Annie Moreno, Jess Moreno, Liliana Gaytan, Jasmine Sanchez, Tia Sanchez and Nyeli Bauer.

Vanessa is preceded in death by many loved ones as she comes from a very large family. Vanessa was welcomed to the spirit world by her grandparents (Christine Red Feather and Paul &amp; Verna Sanchez), mother-in-law (Nazaria Moreno), uncles (Paul Sanchez, Michael Sanchez, Louis Sanchez, Angelo Sanchez, Bruce Kittleman, Clifford “Woody” Red Feather, Gilbert Red Feather, Everdale Red Feather, and Iver Crow Eagle Jr.), close friend (Nellie Rider) and her cousin who was like her sister, Michelle Red Feather.

Vanessa’s siblings include Lori War Bonnet, Kim (Mario) Soriano, Erica Sanchez and Tony Sanchez. Vanessa is also survived by one grandson, Cashton Dickenson and her beloved puppy, Gia. Vanessa’s Godchildren include Annie Moreno, Jess Moreno, Liliana Gaytan, Jasmine Sanchez, Tia Sanchez and Nyeli Bauer.Vanessa is preceded in death by many loved ones as she comes from a very large family. Vanessa was welcomed to the spirit world by her grandparents (Christine Red Feather and Paul &amp; Verna Sanchez), mother-in-law (Nazaria Moreno), uncles (Paul Sanchez, Michael Sanchez, Louis Sanchez, Angelo Sanchez, Bruce Kittleman, Clifford “Woody” Red Feather, Gilbert Red Feather, Everdale Red Feather, and Iver Crow Eagle Jr.), close friend (Nellie Rider) and her cousin who was like her sister, Michelle Red Feather.Vanessa’s last wishes were to be cremated and shared between her parents, her Godparents, her uncle Louis Sanchez, and her uncle Everdale Red Feather. Vanessa’s pallbearers include her only brother (Tony Sanchez), her nephews (Mario Soriano and Derek War Bonnet), her cousin that she referred to as a “brother” (Louis Sanchez Jr.) and his sons (Louis Sanchez III, Eathen Sanchez and Tyson Sanchez) and her nephew who she referred to as her “son”, Tyler Wright. Honorary pallbearers include her close aunts (Claudette Crow Eagle, Maxine Young and Lisa Kittleman), Godsiblings (Arthur Sanchez Jr. and Rita Guerra), her close cousins (Crystal Sanchez, Iver Crow Eagle III, Ivan Crow Eagle, Iverene Lunderman, Iverina “Angel” Crow Eagle, Jennifer Dickens, Serena Young, and Quentta Two Charger), close friends (Heather Zimmerman, Marissa Madero, Sarah Little Eagle, Melita Stover, and Norma Cross), and her “sister friend” (Debra Dubray).Vanessa did not want a “funeral” as she wanted her loved ones to celebrate the day that she was no longer in pain. Vanessa was baptized and confirmed a Catholic, so a Rosary will be held on October 3, 2024 at 7 pm at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A procession will follow for a one-night wake at Newberry’s. Lonnie Little Hoop will be assisting with Lakota prayer. A “Celebration of Life” will take place at Newberry’s on Friday, October 4, 2024. Lunch will be served at noon with a gathering of loved ones to follow. Vanessa’s favorite color was purple and the family requests this color to be worn in remembrance of Vanessa.
