On May 30 at 9:45 a.m. a Harley-Davidson motorcycle occupied by two Dawes County residents were traveling west on Highway 12 in Utah near Bryce Canyon National Park.
An antelope jumped in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the antelope and lost control causing both occupants to be fully ejected.
The driver and Dawes County Commissioner, 62-year-old Levi Grant sustained fatal injuries at the scene.
"The passenger [61-year-old Mimi Wheeler-Groves] was taken by ambulance and then flown to a local hospital in extremely critical condition," Utah Highway Patrol said. "Helmets were worn by both occupants, but heavily damaged."
According to family of those involved in this accident, Groves also passed away from injuries.
