CHADRON – Chadron State College classes will be dismissed Monday to allow students to attend events in honor of MLK Day.
Laura Clay of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is president of the CSC Social Science Club and co-organizer of the event with Dr. Dave Nesheim and Dr. Justin Curtis, faculty advisers.
Morning sessions in the Student Center Ballroom will include a 10 a.m. discussion led by Dr. Kurt Kinbacher covering the history of protest through the rights, responsibilities, and privileges outlined and guaranteed in Constitution. Curtis will speak at 11 a.m. about the Evolution of the Black Lives Matter Movement.
A peaceful march will start at 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Main and Third Streets and end at the Lindeken Clock Tower, according to Clay. Members of the public are welcome to join in the march up to the edge of campus, and all participants are expected to wear masks.
At 1:30 p.m., the movie “Fruitvale Station” will be shown in the Student Center Ballroom.
“We hope this film will spark conversations related to current issues, that people will gain a better understanding of these issues, and that the entire day’s events will prompt change on the CSC campus and beyond,” Clay said.
