ALLIANCE – Keep Alliance Beautiful and the City of Alliance expanded public recycling access in October by placing the last of 14 new, blue receptacles downtown.

The 40-gallon recycling containers are similar in style to the City trash cans they’re paired with at the intersections of the 200-400 blocks of Box Butte Avenue. The other two recycling locations are near the Box Butte County Courthouse. Accepted items are plastic bottles, aluminum cans and paperboard cups.

Earlier this year, in coordination with City Manager J.D. Cox, KAB purchased the containers and requested reimbursement from the City Council. KAB will add downtown to its existing routes and services.

“The public should have access to recycling when visiting their community’s downtown. The items accepted in the new bins make up a significant portion of what people throwing away. I appreciate the support of J.D. Cox and our City Council members in making this possible,” said John E. Weare, KAB executive director.

“These new downtown recycling containers are a wonderful addition to Alliance, making it easier for residents and visitors to recycle while helping extend the life of our landfill and control costs. We are fortunate to have Keep Alliance Beautiful, and it’s a genuine pleasure working with Executive Director John Weare and his team to make projects like this possible,” said Alliance City Manager J.D. Cox.
