In recognition of National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM), Panhandle Public Health District (PPHD) is encouraging residents of the Nebraska Panhandle to stay up to date on recommended vaccinations to help protect themselves, their families, and their communities from vaccine-preventable diseases.
National Immunization Awareness Month, observed each August, serves as a reminder that vaccinations are an important part of preventive healthcare for people of all ages. From infants and children to adolescents, adults, and older adults, routine immunizations help prevent serious illnesses and reduce the spread of infectious diseases.
Throughout the month, PPHD is promoting routine vaccinations, with their walk-in immunization clinics every Tuesday – Friday from 8:30am – 4:00pm. You can stop in their Scottsbluff office at 18 W 16th Street, Scottsbluff. Please bring insurance information with you to the clinic. Assistance is available at no cost for those without insurance through our Vaccines for Children (VFC) program.
“Vaccines train our body’s immune system to safely produce antibodies to fight infections,” said Sondra Holloway, DO, MD for the PPHD Board of Health. She continued, “History shows that maintaining the recommended vaccine schedule is the safest, most effective way to protect yourself and your family from many preventable diseases.”
PPHD encourages parents to ensure children receive recommended immunizations before returning to school and reminds adults that vaccines remain important throughout life. Seasonal vaccines, booster doses, and age- or health-specific immunizations can help prevent serious complications from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Residents are encouraged to review their vaccination records and speak with their healthcare provider or local public health office if they have questions about recommended immunizations.
