Howard Robert Trussel passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the Hemingford Care Center. He was 92.
He was born February 11, 1932 at Hemingford, NE to Lawrence and Florence (Cadwalader) Trussel. Howard liked to tell the story of his dad hitching up the team of horses to the wagon in a blizzard to get them to town in time.
Howard attended several country schools and then boarded in town to attend high school. It was there he met the love of his life, Deloris Gowin. They were married on January 1, 1954 at the Hemingford Methodist Church.
Howard served in the U.S. Army from June 3, 1952 to his honorable discharge on June 3, 1955. His service included a tour in Korea during the Korean War. Howard worked for 27 years for Fisher Farms at Hemingford.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Deloris, his son, Robert and a granddaughter. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sharon Gowin of Mitchell and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia (Alvin) Hack, Lela (Jess) Henry, Harvey (Helen) Trussel, his father and mother-in-law, Floyd and Wilda Gowin, his sisters-in-law, Joanne Gowin and Bonnie Tragesser and his brother-in-law, Floyd Gowin.
Graveside services will be Friday, May 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hemingford Cemetery. Pastor Suyeol Bae will officiate and military honors will be conducted.
Memorials may be given to the Hemingford Foundation Scholarship.
